A Story of Growth: The Young Pear Tree That's Stealing the Show
In a world that moves so fast, it's easy to forget the beauty and importance of growth.
That's why our young pear tree is such a special part of our garden - it's a living, breathing reminder of the beauty and power of new beginnings.
Watching it blossom and thrive fills our hearts with hope and gratitude. We're grateful for the chance to witness this incredible transformation and to be a part of its story.

[Saw a post going around about the Slithering Wet Malice letter change again and wanted to add some contradictory thoughts in a separate post to be respectful of the original post.]
The Slithering Wet Malice letter was not out of character. The only ‘flaw’ in the slithering wet malice letter was that it left more room for interpretation of the character that could potentially be misread.
Yes, the letter could be interpreted as theatrical and silly, putting Gortash more into the dandy, Astarion-esque category. I would personally say that this is a possible-yet-incorrect interpretation of his character/the letter.
The new letter more clearly emphasizes the controlled, threatening nature of Gortash. Which, on one hand, is correct and leaves no room for misinterpretation.
However, you lose depth in the new letter. Gortash appears controlled, and can deliver bone chilling threats, sure, but he is also absolutely out of his fucking mind.
He isn’t theatrical. He is erratic. He is unhinged. He knows how to hold all the pieces together when he needs to, much in the same way that someone with high-functioning depression can come off completely normal. But beneath his 'scary' exterior is an even more absolutely terrifying mind. The kind to sever people's heads and control their brains, the kind to play psychological horror games for science.
THAT side of Gortash is what the Slithering Wet Malice letter shows, a moment of that unhinged tide breaking through. It gives him more than the new letters, although at the cost of misinterpretation. I understand why a game developer might make the choice to change it if they felt the risk of misinterpretation was too high - but saying it was out of character is just wrong.
TLDR: I'll be 1000 years old and rise from my grave to defend Slithering Wet Malice.

Honey goes farther then vinegar in the strife buisness.
Like, tyranny isn't built in fear or domination. For sure not on simple threats of firebombing somones house. Why the fuck would the lord enver gortash work with someone he has to threaten into subservience.
We KNOW gort uses his dick in politics, we KNOW he is the sexy lord of baldurs gate. Why has his character been turned into an archetype of a mob boss?
The Chosen are setup yo subvert their typical story archetypes anyways.
Bhaals - spawn is an admirer of the beauty of murder, not on mass but as individual art pieces.
Myrkuls chosen is simply a family man worn and wearing thin, not a power hungry self serving lich.
Banes chosen is still a scared child from hell, using subversive backroom tactics, using his goons to protect himself not a tuff boss strutting around the city throwing his weight around ruling with fear.

note to franc peartree from orin
i don't know if you can actually find this in game but it doesn't seem to be loaded into any of the map files and it's not in franc peartree's house or basement, so it's likely you can't? anyway. i feel like it somehow paints a hornier picture of gortash and peartree's relationship than his original unedited letters
Tumblr media
here is its roottemplates entry, it's named "BOOK_LOW_SerialKiller_PeartreeOrinThreat", and its name in game is "choose wisely"
Tumblr media
the note you find on peartree's body is named "BOOK_LOW_SerialKiller_OrinThreat", in game "bloodied note"

My biggest issue with them sanitizing the Franc letters is that those letters showed us that it was possible for Gortash to speak to someone like that, in private. Whether it was manipulation or not, it showed us that he was willing to be absolutely unhinged for someone to show his love for them. It planted the seed for the possibilities of how he interacted with the Durge when no one else was around.
By taking that away, Larian just shut that door.

Hello everybody I am here to shout about Gortash and Franc again. Like everybody has seen the VERY flirty letter but oh my god, the first letter he sends him? Very, very sexy in a more understated way:
Tumblr media
He is insane. I love him.
It seems that Franc and Enver worked together quite closely. Franc's room has a ton of research into the hells, and it's not wildly out of the way to assume that he was doing part of the infernal research alongside Gortash.
Also I've 100% decided they were both Banites. And fucking.

Orin was not happy with the progress of infernal machines.

And because you just can't finish a post like this without it...

patch notes for patch #7
gortash no longer recognizes the dark urge
gortash's name is no longer "sickeningly familiar"
Orin will no longer comment about DU's relationship with gortash, so that it can better be "left to interpretation"
Wyll has been replaced by a slightly smaller Astarion

what if Larian takes away Gortash's greasy looking final fantasy hair next, or his big tired eye bags or his haggard middle aged dictator gone to seed face? then what?
you gonna kick me in the nuts too?

Peartree as a 'Juvenile Slime' or basically his baby digimon evolution as a slime. Turns out even as a little blob, he was still near sighted as fuck. And continues to squint despite wearing glasses.

As much as I adore the fruity little Franc Peartree letter, it implies that Franc was finally something that made Gortash giddy again after the disappearance of the Dark Urge.
And what did Orin do about that? 🤔😭
She didn't even kill Franc herself either 😅. She most likely was attempting to skirt the boundaries of their alliance by putting Peartree on a hitlist for Bhaalists initiates to hunt down, despite his rather crucual affiliation with Gortash.
The Bhaalists favour taking out the best types of people; good souls. Franc Peartree was if nothing a Banite aspirant, who was so good at "birthing slithering wet malice into the world" on behalf of Gortash, it sent the Chosen of Bane into an actual tizzy to the point of sending him fanmail.
He's not the typical target for a Bhaalists sacrifice, but Orin apparently hated the mechanical nature of the weapons and traps peppered around the city so much, that she just said "fuck it" and spat in the face of Gortash by taking out his little Banite buddy.
Between Durge missing, Ketheric being angsty about Isobel, and the Emperor fucking off with the astral prism, Franc's success and loyalty was probably one of the first really good things left for him.
If circumstances where different, Orin wouldn't have dared, but in retrospect it seems like a big fucking deal- she knew Gortash wanted to maintain the alliance more than she did, so she used that knowledge to get away with shit that would otherwise have him straight up NUKE the Temple of Bhaal LMAO
Lo-and-behold, Tav/Durge shows up just when things we're really falling apart xD
No wonder he was desperate to ally with them! He would have been so happy to remedy the chaos Orin was wreaking by essentially asking Tav/Durge to marry him 😂

you know i fully joke about wanting gortash romance to be real but i am going to be So honest when i say i truly do not want it to be put in the game lmao. and honestly if the franc letter was taken out for that reason, it only reinforces that for me because it kind of just makes me realize how soulless and pandering it will probably feel if some of the other changes are anything to go by. let the man be an absolute freak who loves any man willing to birth a little more slithering, wet malice into the world by putting his weapons in groping, willing fingers smh.
(i also need to be so honest when i say i think either it would need to be durge-locked or be So significantly different for a durge vs. other characters for a romance to work lmao)

Relationship: Enver Gortash/Franc Peartree
Tags: Enver Gortash, Franc Peartree, Food metaphors, Freak Gortash
Word count: 800
Summary: An array of delicate flavors, pairing and overlapping and complementing and changing one another by their proximity – to tease them apart, render them all into the distinct individual layers is a most excellent puzzle for a man with a mind honed enough to manage it. Savor the distinct tang of avarice, the way it fizzes delicately when combined with integrity versus its violent sublimation on contact with desire.
Enver Gortash reflects on his relationship with Franc Peartree.
In honor of the loss of the best horny freak Gortash letters, have some freak Gortash thinking about Franc Peartree. It was a fun thing to write - I got to try some new styles and had a good time

I Love You, Franc
"You are a treasure, and I should like to hold you in my arms and whisk you about! How you would laugh, Franc. Of course, people would say we're in love. And I do. I do love you, Franc. I love any man willing to birth a little more slithering, wet malice into the world."
Franc Peartree receives a certain letter from the newly appointed Archduke of Baldur's Gate. It includes a request to meet him urgently at Flymm's Cargo.
(aka I am being very normal about Peartree-Gate)
