knocking on the door of your sas vacation to ask "wanna practise?" for pegjop
“I’m failing to see the problem,” says Thomas, exhaling a cloud of smoke up towards the sky, his head tipped toward Harry’s on the blanket they both lie on. It’s that beautiful hour after sunset, when the sky is a glowing, almost electric blue, the very horizon lit up the same scarlet as the cherry on the cigarette they pass back and forth. Harry can tell that Thomas wants him to shut the fuck up and enjoy the peace of it all. “You want him, he obviously wants you, just ask him on a date.”
“What if I… do something wrong?”
“Meaning?”
Harry raises an eyebrow.
“Oh, come on Harry, it’s not as if you’ve never had sex before. When I lived with you and Rose I heard you fucking about five times a week, and that’s just when I was home.”
“You heard us?”
Thomas gives Harry a pointed look. “How thick did you think those walls were?”
“Look, that’s not the point,” says Harry quickly. “I’ve been with women, yeah, but I’ve never even kissed a man.”
“It’s not that different,” says Thomas with a shrug, taking another long drag off the cigarette and handing it back to Harry.
Harry snorts. “How the fuck would you know?”
“I’ve kissed women.”
“When?”
Thomas just shrugs. “You want to practise?”
“Fuck off,” says Harry, rolling his eyes.
“I’m serious,” says Thomas. “Not the fucking, you’ll have to work that one out on your own. But I’d kiss you, if you’re really that worried about it.”
Harry glances over at Thomas, who’s watching him, eyes cool and unreadable.
“Yeah?”
“Sure,” says Thomas.
Harry takes the last drag off the cigarette and reaches over his head to stub it out in the dirt above the blanket. “Alright.”
Thomas rolls onto his side and lifts himself up, half bracing himself above Harry, one hand beside his head. Then, with no fanfare, no hesitation, he leans in and kisses him.
It is different from kissing a woman, a bit. Thomas is firm and almost demanding in his kiss, his lips tasting of smoke and his chin rough with stubble, and his jaw is sharp when Harry reaches up to cup his face in one hand. It’s just kissing though when it comes down to it, easy to get lost in, to open his mouth and let his tongue brush Thomas’ and feel his breathing pick up as their bodies press together. Thomas nips gently at Harry’s bottom lip, and Harry lets out a breathy little noise, and finally Thomas pulls away with a soft laugh.
“Sure you don’t want to practise the fucking too?” asks Harry, grinning back at him, and Thomas snorts and pulls his pack of cigarettes back out to light another.
“Don’t want to ruin you for your old man now, do I?” he asks, and he shoots Harry a cheeky grin, eyes glittering in the evening light.
#they’re uhhhh camping or something idk#for some reason this had to happen on a picnic blanket while smoking i can’t tell you why#the muse just told me to do it#pegjop#jopson#peglar#my writing

Shortly after midnight on 24 May 1859, a human skeleton in the uniform of a steward from the lost expedition was found on a gravel ridge near the mouth of Peffer River on the island’s southern shore.
McClintock recorded the tragic scene in his journal:
“This poor man seems to have selected the bare ridge top, as affording the least tiresome walking, and to have fallen upon his face in the position in which we found him. It was a melancholy truth that the old woman spoke when she said, ‘they fell down and died as they walked along.’”
McClintock believed the man had fallen asleep in this position and that his “last moments were undisturbed by suffering.”
Alongside the bleached skeleton lay “a small clothes brush near, and a horn pocket-comb, in which a few light brown hairs still remained.” There was also a notebook, which belonged to Harry Peglar, captain of the foretop on the Terror. The notebook contained the handwriting of two individuals, Peglar and an unknown second. In the hand of Peglar was a song lyric, dated 21 April 1847, which begins: “The C the C the open C it grew so fresh the Ever free.” A mystery, however, surrounds the other papers, written in the hand of the unknown and referring to the disaster.
Most of the words in the messages were spelled backwards and ended with capital letters, as if the end were the beginning.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY DEAR FRIEND THE GHOST OF HENRY PETER PEGLAR BORN FEB 22 1812 (DISAPPEARED APRIL 25 1848 (DECLARED DEAD MARCH 3 1854))
i feel like they kind of fumbled how compelling his life story actually was in the amc show, so here are some things about the real life guy that i think about a lot
he joined the navy when he was 12 after growing up in westminster london, where his dad owned a gunsmithing shop
in twenty years of being a sailor, he never took a more than a year or so off between working on ships
he saw two guys get killed by lightning when he was 17 and working aboard the marquis camden
he was lashed two dozen times for drunkenness and mutinous conduct and confined in irons about it when he was 21
barely survived fighting pirates
he looooooved drinking
so much so that before the franklin expedition ships left london, he (sort of) owned a beer hall
he clearly liked writing, and wrote his own poetry for fun (which is what makes up most of the wallet's paper contents)
in the arctic, he was terribly nostalgic for his time sailing around in warmer locations from his youth
he was concerned enough about his privacy on board of terror that he developed a backwards code he could quickly and easily write in and that would be confusing for a stranger to read
he liked drawing circles and organizing sentences in spirals
he was concerned enough about the expedition's survival chances that he decided to write down an account of his career and keep it in his wallet with his navy id papers
and when he died, someone* loved him enough to intentionally keep his wallet safe and as well preserved as possible until searchers discovered him & henry both

keep attempting to compare him to a specific animal but honestly henry peglar to me is like. when you're watching a nature documentary and then suddenly there's some weird little mammal you've never seen before in your life and you're like WHAT there's just a whole kind of guy i've never even heard of ?? and it's some beige squirrel kind of thing and you don't know if it's a primate or a marsupial or what but it has giant eyes and you just know it's endangered because it's so cute people want it as a pet. that's Him ↓

i cant stop thinking about how its practically canon that the surviving men stopped caring about homosexuality towards the end. wdym the air around peglar and bridgens was so intimate that all the men stepped away and gave them a moment? wdym everyone stepped away and let bridgens carry peglar because they knew how important it was to him? wdym jopson turned around to give them a moment after helping bridgens get peglar into the boat?WDYM EVERYONE KNEW BUT NO ONE CARED????
#omg they're allies <3#rip peglar cant believe you had to die for the men to stop caring about homosexuality#the terror#amc the terror#the terror amc#john bridgens#henry peglar#bridglar
