In this next “Touring Maine with art” I want to make some observations about light and its relationship to the sea. This time is dawn light. I put together some examples of what I look for with dawn lighting. - In this first set of photos that I took at Dawn at Pemaquid you can see that the changes in the coloration of the light in the sky doesn’t necessarily go the way you think it will. The whole sequence was about four minutes long I just selected some to illustrate. - One of the great things about dawn light is it low angle to the sea so it adds drama to the waves which catch light. - The clouds can also catch the light but it’s a fleeting thing. - And finally one last thing to think about is if you’re looking into the light versus if you’re looking away from the light at the same time of day, same location you can get dramatically different results. Next time I’ll try backlighting. - There are lots of different terms that I use in referring to light. Light is a fairly big topic so this is just one segment of light. WIP I’m thinking this one is just about done. I’m going to work on it some more for the background chop which is incredibly complicated. - I will put the finished piece up on my site available for sale, once it’s completed it’s a 24 x 36 oil on stretched linen canvas. Framing it in a shadow box frame. If you live in #MidcoastMaine I can bring it out to your house for you to see, since my studio really isn’t going to be open until May. The first half of the little video is about the rocks and you can see as I progress that I was carried away so then I pulled it back and simplified the rocks at the end and the second half is about the background chop and then I did some tweaking also on the foreground water. So I have some more work to do on the background water and but the foreground and the rocks are pretty much done to my satisfaction - then moving on to the next piece which I’m all a tingle to start . So sometimes you have to do website work and update things. So I spent some of the holiday adding AR and viewing rooms to my website. I’m still waiting for a mechanism to sort the rooms into separate topics.
