Now is the time I point out something I've kept to myself since not long after the game's release... I'm pretty sure Papyrus is the only monster who is never shown to have white "pupils." For most monsters, they "go out" when defeated, befpre they turn to dust. The Dreemurs are weird cases but they still show white pupils when struck mortal blows. NOT PAPYRUS! P.S. Gryftrot's are in a bonkers place, BUT THEY STILL BLINK!

Yoooo but seriously that is an impressive observation of something so subtle.. It definitely needs to be investigated to -most importantly- add to Papyrus's level of mysteriousness, and see what it means. HMMM.

A long list I recently compiled of reasons I like to headcanon Papyrus as autistic.

Difficulty interpreting others' thoughts or feelings (The whole thing with the date)

Trouble interpreting social cues (Didn't realize Undyne was mad at him until she said so but didn't know when she was mad)

Takes things literally (Assumes Undyne's being serious about people removing guts from bread before taking it to the store)

Difficulty regulating emotion (Gets really excited about doing puzzles with Frisk; gets really frustrated with Sans talking about the lamp; pretty much everything about Papyrus)

Inflection that doesn't reflect feelings/Seeming blunt, rude, or uninterested without meaning to ("You should take a hike. It's good for your legs!")

Infodumping about special interests (His entire thing with wanting to find a human; also puzzles)

Only participates in a restricted range of activities (Preparing puzzles, making spaghetti, etc.)

Finding it hard to make friends ("Once I reach a few dozen followers, I'll finally have double digits!"; talks about having no friends frequently)

Often invents words and expressions to describe things ("Boondoggle"; "Slightly bonetrousled"; "You are... persistent! But! It just won't work on me! I am the persistentest! And if you think you are persistenester... That is wrong! Grammatically wrong! Because the correct form would be: not as persistentest as Papyrus, the persistentestest!")

Difficulty telling when someone is happy or mad at you (Again, the thing with Undyne)

Liking to plan things carefully before doing them (The whole Snowdin Forest puzzle segment, honestly)

Papyrus for the character thing!!

Doing this on mobile so no bolding for me. Maybe I'll edit it to look nicer later when I edit to add tagsgeneral opinion: actual love of my life Okay not really but I'm a very big fan and at the rate I try to spin things in his favor I am pretty obnoxious about it so "I love them" doesn't seem to cut it. hotness level:  theoretically hot but not my typeWell first of all he's a skeleton hogwarts house:  slytherin Fun fact I never really got into Harry Potter beyond "the movie is on in the background", but I was in a discussion about this and I really like this headcanon that Papyrus's ambition and low-key manipulation would get him into Slytherin. Same discussion also lead to him being a Sith instead of a Jedi. Papyrus being the adorable, optimistic, token good teammate is my favorite thingbest quality: His being the persistentestest! I think a lot of his best traits all tie back into him not being the type to give upworst quality: where do I start? I'm just going to say his insecurity, even though I feel like that's an understatement. ship them with: HONESTLY? Burgerpants. Like I'm not joking about this. I wish I was. To other varying degrees I like him with Mettaton, Asriel in an AU where he never died, Undyne (in some pretty limited contexts), and then maybe in some kind of weird hatemance with Grillby. brotp them with: Flowey! And Undyne! Mainly Flowey though. I love their friendship. I also want to see him and Alphys as cool online friends. needs to stay away from: Nobody really. But I kinda love the idea of seeing him and Toriel acting antagonistically towards each other. Like two soccer moms who gossip about each other and conspire against one another in super passive aggressive ways, but still unite one because dangit their kids are on the same team, and do you see what the other team is up to!? misc. thoughts: My papyrus head canons conflict as often as his own statements do.
