Since then she's seen 2 tank upgrades and has been surrounded by tetra friends. The move to our new house 2 years ago really stressed her out, but she recovered to her old lively self and has been the star of the tank the whole time. I'm really gonna miss this pretty girl.

On Friday, we had to let our oldest and last cat go. She was about 20, we had her 19 years. She had my whole heart and I have been a wreck leading up to and through this. My shadow, my familiar, and a huge piece of my heart, all missing. We've been dreaming about her, and I wake up and feel like she is there. Anyway, it sucks right now, and I know it will for a long, long time. I would give any part of myself for another few years with her, but at least she can see Pookie and Otis again.

Ritual for the passing of my ferret

This last year I lost one of my beloved little noodles, Bear.  I found him when he was way too young and had to help feed him and carried him in a little sling against my chest like a kangaroo.  He was so heavily bonded to me, he’d just lay in my arms or in my shirt and cuddle for hours.  Losing him was so damn hard.  Losing pets is always hard.  It is made even worse when they are still so young.  He went downhill quickly and hide his insulinoma for way too long. I share this ritual I wrote on a discord server I am part of as an example others can use when a pet of their own has passed.  Figured, on honor of Bear, I might as well also share it here. We sit here tonight to light a candle and give offering, in hopes that Hel will hold Bear in her arms and help them transition into the peace and safety of Helheim.  I light this candle to consecrate this space and make it holy so that the Gods may enter. As Bear passes on, I hope they remember all the love we have for them and all the kisses and cuddles we gave.  I hope they know just how much they made our lives more whole and made us feel so loved. (If anyone has anything they want to say) Hel, the blue goddess, hail.  Hail to the ruler of Helheim.  May you take little Bear in your arms and lead them to the never-ending fields of peace and happiness, to bound happily among the wildflowers, until the time comes that we meet again.  I give you offering in hopes that you take good care of our beloved ferret and see them happy for all their days in your realm.  Till we meet again.  So may it be. Eulogy for an Ant

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to remember an ant, a colony member, a sister and a worker: Daffodil the Eastern Black Carpenter Ant. Daffodil loved to explore, she loved to escape and that's how we first got to know her, and suspecting that the same ant was escaping over and over she was given her yellow colors and her name. And it was true, more than many of her sisters she loved to make a break for it, exploring the living room and kitchen, even making it to places that are only rumors to most ants such as "the bathroom" and the mysterious "hallway." But, as much as she wandered, she always came home. Because Daffodil loved her colony, her sisters and her queen. She was was good at digging, she was a brave hunter of injured house flies and even spiders. She grasped life with both mandibles and lived with joy and zest. I'd like to share one of her videos. In it she enjoys some sugar water and shares with her sisters. This is how we all should remember her and hold this little ant in our hearts. For what happens to the children of the colony and what happens to the each of us is the same: as one dies, so dies the other. All go to one place. All are from the dust, and to dust all return.  So we see that there is nothing better than that an ant should rejoice in her colony and in her work. Goodbye little one.

DAYURNO well i have them in the sense that i don't think kevin would use them....... i think at best you can convince him of a nickname of some kind (re: nicky and not nicholas, thea instead of theodora, matt instead of matthew) but it has to be 1. widespread 2. not something you come up with just for him. these are real rules he would set. for example i don't think you could waterboard a 'jer' for jeremy out of kevin. he'd say 'drew' only very severely drunk or very severely tired and it's less of a nickname and more of a slurring :)

the thing about kevin that i really believe is that he just has the teacher's temperament and especially the teacher's voice so i can't see him using nicknames because the way i hear it in my mind's voice he's really bodying those syllables when he says someone's name. do you understand what i mean. i think kevin speaks clearly and at length like he's giving a lesson at all times so of course he's using full names. i need an hour long clip of him just pronouncing names from the trilogy. nathaniel. theodora. moreau. nicholas. tetsuji. UGH!!!!!!!!!! i know he's bodying those vowels

i will say though i think it can depend on the context! while i can't see it being used in common day to day conversation there are special moments where kevin day's glacial heart is known to thaw a little. this has nothing to do with my own desire for him to call jean sweet boy

How do you think Andalites in human morph deal with the human instinct to pet fluffy creatures that may or may not kill them?

I assume it'd depend on the area. In the U.S. and Europe we've killed off 99.9% of the critters who wouldn't run away and would kill a human who runs at them yelling "fluffy!!!!!" So like, I'm guessing the worst would be minor injuries or rabies from a raccoon or deer who feels cornered by this human. Anything fuzzy and venomous (tarantula, some bats, etc.) couldn't do more than cause moderate pain for a bitten human.

The issue with threatening a bear or buffalo enough that one kills you is that that doesn't happen incidentally. The human has to go into the other critter's territory, and most of the time has to repeatedly walk at the critter while ignoring threat displays in order to get killed. It's entirely possible andalites have no idea what Earth threat displays look like (considering most involve "make loud noise" and andalites don't make noise) and so might interpret a roar or growl as a form of greeting. If the morpher specifically targets the smallest and cutest critters (the babies) for attempted pets, then that'd end in death.
