Captain Enoch E. Cazlor / Lord Elijah Oliver Newton Galloway

The Scacchic Scapegrace

Species: Appears human the majority of the time due to prosthetics and makeup. These hide the monstrous changes he has made over the decades— gills, several rows of jagged teeth, claws, fins... the Peligin eyes have proven harder.

Age: ~69 (Born August 2nd, 1835)

Gender: A man, but only because he chose it. Enoch increasingly considers gender to be a ridiculous charade, but the first transformation he undertook was that of gender— so though he no longer aspires to be a gentleman by Society's standards, he retains affection for being a man.

Pronouns: He/Him within London and most company. It/its is next choice, especially at zee and among inhuman company. They/them is acceptable.

Occupation: Zee captain, spy

Chessboard: Red and White aligned. Plays for self, but maintains order (to further benefit self)

Personality: Arrogant, smart enough to get away with it, and wealthy enough to escape the consequences of the many times he hasn't. Enoch has spent enough time outside of their privileged sphere of high society to understand the plights of the average Londoner, but values their own security above all else. They feel mildly guilty at times, but attempt to fix this with acts of charity (and quite a lot of drugs and alcohol). Enoch's life is in two parts: a haze of balls and parties on land, and a haze of bloodlust at Zee. Whatever sobriety is, he fears what it would force him to confront.

Manner wise, Enoch is generally polite (though smug). He changes his demeanour based on company, feeling far freer among those less human, but ultimately how he behaves is more determined by what he believes he can get away with.

Family: Second youngest out of five in a wealthy household, grew up additionally with aunt and three cousins. Was an increasingly misanthropic child with great resentment for Society and family.

Interests: Dying at Zee

Romantic interests: In his youth had idealistic views of romance as something great, and something that simply happened— but every pursuit of it left him unsatisfied. After a disasterous courtship with a devil, swore it off almost entirely. In modern terms, pan grey-aromantic. These days does not pursue romance at all and claims 0 interest, but holds some sliver of desire there might be someone exactly right.

Sexual interests: anyone, but rarely. Isn't attracted to most people or traits, and finds much of sexuality a bore. Still does, but only through random, mainly anonymous encounters— like romance, nothing feels 'right', but still has enough interest to pursue it. Almost certainly into kink and almost certainly weird about it.

Narrative themes: Dual life, crossroads, the choice of privilege/luxury against identity/passion. Lying to others and the self. Endless cycles of indulgence and the conviction it will never end. Rotting and ignoring it. Denial of truth, the choice of Easy against what is Right.

Reoccurring dreams: Drowning in a sea of bodies and limbs, being outnumbered and overwhelmed, guilt and the knowledge it is deserved

Reflection: Enoch's reflection resembles him, but is a woman. Enoch finds this irritating, for reasons he refuses to ponder. His reflection always appears happy and/or smirking, a constant "i know better" attitude that Enoch also displays, but which Enoch finds extremely frustrating to deal with.

(Why is Enoch's reflection a feminine mirror of himself? Ultimately, it is down to gender and society. Enoch's anger at being a woman was always far more about what a woman was allowed to be than about 'man' 'woman' in the abstract. Gender was the first place Enoch discovered a weakness in the chain of society, yet ultimately he chose to return to society— and a binary gender within it— than continue down that path of rebellion. Enoch often is casually misogynistic, and views womanhood as something unpleasant he escaped from. Part of him understands what it is he truly hates, and that part is the woman smiling in the mirror.)

History:

Wip! Short version:

Increasingly troublesome youth and friction within large family.

The Fall provoked further rebellion, fell for the devil Mikhail and ran off to elope.

Devil took soul and left E, spurring years of revenge to regain soul.

Was openly living as a man since running off on their own, sought Neathly methods of transition. When an experimental operation result wasn't to his liking, began learning how to fix and improve this.

Became involved in the Great Game and took up Zeefaring, eventually becoming a captain-spy and later a more independent explorer

After achieving recognition and wealth, returned to family. Was welcomed back... though reintroduced as a cousin rather than a former daughter.

Most of family now involved in sunlight smuggling, which Enoch becomes involved in as well.

Other details:

+Though aligned heavily with White, has some knowledge of the Old Man in Vienna and a vaguer notion of The White— and considers them to almost be 'rivals'. (The Old Man certainly knows Enoch exists (He knows a lot), but Enoch is far less important and influential than it thinks it is). Enoch loves freedom of the Neath, and understands enough of the stars to realize the threat they pose to it.

+Enoch's loyalties are always to itself and its comfort first. It wants to maintain order and status quo because it knows how to thrive within it— but has little actual respect for them as concepts.

+Enoch has a dog, Gunner. He is a stray mutt who was discovered sleeping by Enoch's boat's cannon. Enoch is extremely protective of Gun, fearing the dig will be used against him, and pays a lot of money on his care while Enoch is at Zee. Gun loves to zail, though Enoch refuses to go further than lapping near the docks when Gun is aboard.

+Enoch primarily takes its body modifications from monsters its killed. It performs surgery on itself and refuses to work on anyone else, though will teach or supervise. It has taken a lot of trial and error for Enoch to be as skilled as it is at this— it combines shapeling arts and Correspondence in turns to shape and bind its body. It is getting increasingly difficult to hide these inhuman features, but it keeps finding new ideas on how to improve its body.

+Enoch really wants a tail next, but fears it would be far too much hassle to hide.

+At this point it takes one to two hours for Enoch to prepare a human appearance each day. They have sought methods to require less sleep, but the amount of time needed for makeup and prosthetics keeps climbing higher...

+Enoch and Mikhail reached a truth several years ago, though Enoch still carries a grudge. Mikhail does not care. Much like The Old Man, Enoch imagines them as far more passionate rivals than they actually are.

A few more Siren AU concept sketches

First up, Fakey and Noise. I thought it'd look cool if i mixed in newts into Fake's design (specifically the crested newt). And i like it a lot so yeah. (Yes i know he's way too small in the top right. Ignore that.) Noise is based on a goblin shark. Also i love the fucking grin in gave him. Absolute gremlin

Pepperman and Vigilante are a lumpfish and a sea slug respectively. Idk why lumpfish but he looks funny so i might even keep that idea lol. Huge apologies to Vigi i still can't draw him rip, but at least he's got little ears so that's cool?

I think I'll stick to eel PH but i like how the squid one looks so I'll keep it here. Oh and Stingray PF. Stingrays are surprisingly hard to draw btw. I liked the idea of the small olive eyes being on top while his usual eyes are on the bottom. The eyes either switch depending on where he looks, or the small ones can be hidden or something. He looks very silly i like him
