"Shadows & Lights AU Antagonists - Black Doom, Lyric, Infinite, & Dr. Starline"

Same thing as the previous two, mostly just notes for myself since its probably too small to properly read on here.

The TLDR is under the cut

- Lyric is the last living Ancient and betrayed his kind to ally with Black Doom. It was their fault that the Ancients and nearly all the Black Arms got wiped out by Solaris's Wrath (Mephiles and Iblis). Gaia was saddened by this great loss and shattered the Master Emerald and Phantom Ruby in hopes of preventing this kind of occurrence from happening again, so that the next civilization may prosper. Mobians in the modern day are vaguely reminiscent of the Ancients, but are too different to be considered the same as them

-Mobians were created by Gaia's tears and the charred dirt from Solaris's fire instead, rather than the direct combined powers of Solaris and Chaos like the Ancients were (though then this technically means then that Sonic is also a hybrid like Shadow, and is not fully Mobian like his friends.)

-Lyric is still around in the modern era lurking in some Ancient Ruins and is still allied with Black Doom.

-Black Doom and his 7 War Generals were born from Mephiles the Dark's severed tongue (punishment from Chaos) and a dying star, the rest of the black arms race come from them.

-Dr. Starline rescues Infinite from near death after his mercenary squad's encounter with Team Dark (namely moreso with Shadow's deadly strength), he grants him access to some shards of the Phantom Ruby to help hunt down the Eclipse_Projects (and take his revenge on Shadow and destroy all he loves)

-Starline was once a top scientist at GUN before being discharged for theft of documents regarding the A.R.K. Facility (and the Eclipse_Projects). Eccentric and obsessed with Dr. Thorndyke's work on Project_Light. Dr. Eggman thinks he's a fucking creep in the brief time they 'work together'.

i want to talk about the paradox prism for a minute because it's really interesting to me

[everything below is purely speculation / headcanon - please don't mistake it for canon. beware of spoilers for sonic prime part 3]

similar to the master/chaos emeralds, the paradox prism has a level a sentience. not anywhere close to the same level as the emeralds, but there's still something there

the chaos emeralds tend to set up a line of dominos to cause a future event (ex; sonic taking tails under his wing and learning to become more responsible from it)

the paradox prism doesn't do anything close to that, but it does share something with the master emerald; it holds memories

the prism was able to create more versions of the people it saw based on the emotions it saw them project (tails, knuckles, amy, rouge, and eggman)

the different shards / shatterspaces are made up from other major events. whether from this timeline or another is different for each shatterspace

new yoke was created from the group's frustration with sonic + an ending where eggman's almost won (i believe this could be pulled from the events of forces, considering the enforcers)

i think the reason new yoke is the only shatterspace to have a version of eggman is because it's the only one that makes sense to have one

it's pretty well known by now that eggman will need a helping hand if he wants any chance at taking over the world

the only thing better than an evil genius is five evil geniuses, right?

the new yoke group are, as i said, everyone's frustration

nine is frustrated with his past. reminiscing about his tormentors brings him more anger than pain, and living in solitude definitely does not help

rebel and knux are frustrated by the loss of their home (and the egg council in general). having watched their home be destroyed was more heartbreaking than anything at first, it eventually grew to an anger that spurred them on to fix it

rusty is frustrated with those who disobey/fight against the council, but her anger eventually ends up directed towards the council for the way they used her.

i could go more in depth about the new yoke group, but this post is gonna be long enough as is wefoefwof

the shard being red could simply be because that's the color that represents anger, but i'd like to think that-going back to forces-it was a bit influenced by the phantom ruby/infinite as well

no place is formed by the underlying sadness + a devastating event that permanently changed the world (chaos' rampage)

im not connecting no place to chaos because of the fact it's flooded, im connecting it because of the way the stories parallelled

chaos' rampage begun when pachacamac attempted to steal and harness the power of the chaos emeralds for his own gain

dread seeks out the 'devil's ligthouse' solely to prove he is a legend, nearly killing his original crew trying to do so

both protagonists of these stories are selfish and caused destruction for their own gain

dread's, well, dread comes from his failure of proving himself to be the most feared pirate to ever live.

him failing to collect the shard caused him to believe that he truly wasn't a good pirate, leaving him to spiral into a life of cowardice.

the rest of the pirates' dread comes from their longing to be actual pirates.

because of his failure and cowardice, dread now leads a peaceful crew. they don't do any 'pirating', which leaves much to be desired

they enjoy the parties and all, but their true fun comes from being pirates, which dread deprives them of

boscage maze comes from the protectiveness surging between everyone + a world where harmony between enemies is possible to achieve (possibly comes from a timeline where eggman simply doesnt exist, leaving mobius to grow peacefully)

boscage is the shatterspace with the most life. it's full of all kinds of plants because nobody there is destroying it (intentionally, anyways)

thorn rose is protective over birdie and the green. she does what she can to protect both, even if it means hurting people she once called friends

keeping the jungle and birdie safe is her #1 priority, and nothing will ever change that (that's not to say something else can't join them in being her priority)

the scavengers are protective over their belongings and, no matter how strangely they show it, each other

gnarly was nervous when sonic touched his house, immediately turning aggressive to make sure he wouldn't damage it

instead of hiding the berry, prim showed it to the others for a chance they could all share it

instead of running off on his own, mangey let the scavengers follow him as he sniffed out the berry (+ him fetching the one that fell off the treetops, showing it off to the group)

hangry allows mangey to crawl around him, which we can assume means it happens a lot off screen as well

they stick together and cover each other's backs, no matter how hard the fight gets

while we don't know what this shatterspace was before it turned into the grim, it's pretty safe to assume that it was apocalyptic

who or whatever used to live here is long gone. the only thing standing are the purple crystal things.

my guess is it's a timeline where eggman won. he won, and the world died out because he ruined the ecosystem from building so many machines.

while purple is usually associated with royalty or mystery, it's also associated with power, ambition, peace, and independence

whatever happened to the world before the grim, it's very probable that it was out of high ambition with a need for more power. eventually, the world found its peace and is now independent

ghost hill is the blueprint. the time before sonic & co. make their mark on the world. a blank canvas.

maybe a timeline where they don't get a chance to make their mark on the world

yellow is a very light, energetic color. the feeling of happiness at the chance to create something new and fun.

ghost hill and the grim don't have much in terms of characters and design, but i think the colors of their respective shards give us plenty of information about them

the paradox prism is nothing like the chaos emeralds, but is also just like them at the same time. it's powered by pure chaos with no sort of indication on how it was created or why it has the powers it does

i wonder if eggman knew what the prism was exactly or if he only knew that it was powerful

did he know breaking it would cause the world to shatter? did he know how may memories it holds? how many lifetimes it's lived?

i also wonder if the prism knew sonic would shatter it, and that it was already preparing the shatterspaces; hence why it glows brighter

maybe it understood that sonic is a hands-on learner. maybe it knew he needed to experience the lessons first hand, needed them to-quite literally-slap him in the face

maybe it knew they all had their own flaws that they needed to be aware of. maybe it lived through the timeline where sonic never shattered the prism.

maybe the prism planned to be shattered by someone so it could share its memories. maybe there was some sort of pull that told sonic it needed to be shattered.

Some Sonic universe HCs because I have no control in my life

Shadow has both reproductive organs, but he is infertile

Shadow gained a good portion of his powers after he sexually matured, hence why some are much later than other

Sonic can and will tackle hug his friends after saving the world

This is just canon, but Amy is the strongest of the gang. The headcanon part is that everyone forgets until she traps them in a bear hug

Shadow has a card where if he does a certain amount of favours for Rogue, she'll leave him alone for one week. He has never cashed it in and Rogue has forgotten about it

Shadow has blown up his apartment. Multiple. Times. Apparently nightmares and having the ability to blow yourself up doesn't mix well

Shadow now has to live with Rogue and Omega because he isn't trusted alone

Tails likes to recycle Eggman's robots and reuse the metal. It's why he has a countless amount of supplies

Vanilla let's Amy train Cream because she knows Amy is the best choice for it and she wants Cream to be able to defend herself and Cheese

Big has once found an injured chao while fishing and gave it to Shadow. He believes Shadow just needs someone to look after

Everyone is aware of Shadow's fear of heights. He's terrible at hiding it

Sonic sleeps while standing up sometimes and he sleepwalks a lot

Knuckles and Rogue like to spar with Omega and Shadow as the referees

The master emerald gravitates to Shadow for his natural chaos energy and Knuckles fucking hates it

Cream has made Shadow watch My Little Pony

His favourite pony is Princess Luna, but he would never admit that

Sonic does like Strawberry Shortcake, but he likes seeing Amy mad because he thinks she's cute mad

Omega follows Shadow and Rogue like a lost puppy when he has no mission

Shadow doesn't feel like he belongs on Mobius, but he also feels like he doesn't deserve to live on Earth

Rogue is a pansexual queen

Tails has nightmares about rusty tools

Whenever anyone gets injured outside of missions, their instinct is to try and find Shadow and have him heal them

No one knows why or how this started

Vanilla likes to bake and cook for everyone

Amy volunteers at the local library

Whenever someone pisses off Shadow, they give him coffee beans in hopes of pacifying him

Or when they're about to do something really dangerous (not a mission) they give him a bunch in hopes he'll heal them

Rogue is drowning in coffee beans guys. Shadow can't eat them that fast, he doesn't have the proper stomach to digest human food properly

After Shadow received his hero, dark, and neutral form, he developed Sectoral Heterochromia and has a bit of blue in one eye and a touch of gold in the other. His eyes are still mostly red

Tails likes to work on Shadows rings and rocket boots

Infinite is living in Null Space and has been there for a while now. He has no plans to attack. He's been keeping Null Space empty

Infinite's real name is Zero

The Phantom Ruby has been fully absorbed into Infinite, making it so he no longer needs the ruby, but he doesn't know that

Tails used to step on his extra tail

Knuckles mostly has trust issues because of Rogue

Shadow fears the day he outlives everyone and doesn't want to be alone again

Shadow's blood is green and it still freaks everyone out to this day

Rogue pretends Shadow is her boyfriend whenever she's uncomfortable and has a codeword with him

Cream likes to have Shadow and Amy over at the same time because she thinks the three of them make an amazing trio and wants to actually fight crime with Shadow and Amy

Sonic hates Shadow's eyes because they glow in the dark.

Rogue likes to brag about how she's the only normal one in Team Dark

Shadow, Rogue, and Omega have a concerning amount of jewels in their apartment

Shadow ranks as the Ultimate Lifeform. He is the strongest of the strongest, but he's still learning his own powers and capabilities, which is why the others are capable of surpassing him

Amy loves flowers but is allergic to flowers. You will catch her with so much Benedryl in the spring

Shadow is the only one who can breathe easily in space. The others struggle

Sonic has tried multiple times to get over his fear of water, with the help of others. It has never worked out

Eggman likes being in his underwater bases because Sonic can't swim

If the Freedom Fighters were in IDW Sonic.

One thing I like to wonder is what it would be like if The Freedom Fighters were in IDW Sonic. While the IDW comics are meant to be more in line with the games, that doesn't mean that the Freedom Fighters can't find their place.

Honestly, if the Diamond Cutters can be featured in IDW, I see no reason why the Freedom Fighters can't be as well.

Sally Acorn. She won't be a Princess like Archie, but she can be introduced as the daughter of Knothole's Mayor, giving her political ties. Knothole would be less of a hiding place and more where Sally grew up.

She'd have martial arts capabilities and be handy with tech. She could even use her ring blades from the Reboot to help her in battle.

Just to get this out of the way. Sonally may not be a thing in IDW like it was in Archie. At most I can see Sally having a one-sided crush. It probably won't go anywhere, it'd just be a neat callback, but their friendship would remain just that, unless Sega ever okays the couple.

Sonic won't be a Freedom Fighter, and neither would Tails for that matter. He may not be childhood friends with Sally either. They'd meet as teens and build a friendship from there. Sally could have heard of Sonic at least, or maybe she saw him in passing, but that's it.

Nicole wouldn't be an AI, she'd be fully Lynx. I can see her being a tech assistant though, or even a master hacker. Maybe even a teleportation device to have her transported anywhere to pay homage to her old abilities.

She and Sally could be childhood friends. But I'd go a step further and make them stepsisters. This takes inspiration from used SatAM concepts.

There Sally and Nicole were childhood friends until Nicole's brain was transplanted into the computer. When she got her body back, she was a kid, so Sally became like a mother to her. So Sally being the protective big sister works for her character.

We can go further and have her be rather introverted, and more likely to communicate through radio or a hologram than in person.

Bunnie Rabbot wouldn't be a cyborg. I can see her going the Iron Man route and just using mechanical limbs to fight. It'd be both arms and legs. She'd also be a childhood of Sally, and the first to want to go on an adventure with Sonic and Friends.

The cyborg thing is cool and all, but that would require a whole new backstory since roboticization isn't a thing this time around. It can be done, but I am sticking to this route.

If anything, you can say she needed the robotic limbs because she was paralyzed, so she can still be flesh and blood, but still not fully functional.

I can see her potentially bonding with Tails, as he may take a liking to her robotics, and she'd find his genius mind charming. He might even put his own spin on things and build a close bond with one another.

Antoine would be a guard working for Sally's father. He might be updated to having a Wispon, but still with sword like abilities.

Honestly I'd rather he just have the sword but in this type of world, he'd likely be armed with a Wispon, so it'd be the best of both worlds.

I can see him dating Bunnie, or at least flirting with her, but not actually married to her yet. He'd be between comedic coward and brave fighter.

Rotor would be a mechanist, and likely the one arming everyone. Sally's Ring Blades, Bunnie's Robotic Suit and maybe even working on custom Wispons.

He would likely build his own weapons to fight, if need be, but also much more comfortable as the support guy than a fighter.

I imagine he could have some natural strength, so he'd be able to destroy a badnik if need be, without tools.

As a whole, the Freedom Fighters concept comes from their introductory arc where it's revealed they fought together during the Phantom Ruby Incident to liberate Knothole.

They probably didn't really do much damage to Infinite, and most likely just played defense to keep people safe. But they were determined to keep their home free from Eggman's rule.

In this continuity, they'd be more side characters though, and not in every arc afterwards. They could have cameos like appearing in the Restoration, maybe even befriending Tangle, Whisper, Lanolin and Jewel, but that's it.

Like The Chaotix, the Freedom Fighters will appear when needed, and would likely not recruit any game characters.

Bonus character, one of two. If Fiona Fox were to return, she'd have her original role as a medic like she did in the old Archie days.

She could be sassier, akin to her Destructix Days, but this time around, Fiona's purely on the good side. Any sassy remarks could be her either playful, or she just gets annoyed and is more likely to tell you off.

No bad history with Sonic, and her interactions with him and Tails are sassy but respectful. She has no feelings for Sonic, and she's kind to Tails but may be the first to call him nerdy if he acts in such a way.

Any trauma she had could have been due to what Infinite did to Knothole, but this time around, she works on it and doesn't let it consume her like the old Archie days. It'd be her personal character arc.

Bonus character, two of two. If Mina Mongoose returned, she would be more of an aspiring Pop Idol, and working with the FF to achieve that goal to spread Kindness in the world with her music.

She could provide some meta regarding official Sonic songs, it'd be a better way to work them in than just having characters quote them and potentially ruining a mood.

Also, no drama with Sonic either. She never had a major crush on him, she just finds him cool and appreciates him as a Symbol for Freedom.

She probably won't have her super speed this time around, but she'd be fine regardless. If anything, she can fight with a Wispon.

So yeah, this is how I would bring the Freedom Fighters back to IDW. Not to turn Sonic into an Avengers Comic, or to put him and Tails in an official team, but to just add a little bit of depth to their world.

It's still Sonic's story, the Freedom Fighters are just playing their part in it, just like any other character. It'd be a fun addition to the comics, so long as it's done right. Maybe one day.

dark blue, nearly black fur, with lighter blue streaks in the general area of shadow's, similar, if not identical spine formation to sonic's, dark green eyes

caliburn, like other weapons from the round table, had power infused into it by the chaos emeralds; each one has various abilities and capability of speaking to their wielders in various ways

many quests regard finding the chaos emeralds, and keeping avalon safe from invaders who are aggressively seeking more land while the waters of the Great Chaos Flood still recede

lancelot is his half-brother (his mother cheated on the king, and her guilt and shame caused her to flee, giving birth at the base of the master emerald just before she died of exhaustion, where tikal rose lancelot). arthur found out years later but keeps it a secret to uphold lancelot's reputation

finds the phantom ruby at some point? probably thought it was related to the chaos emeralds??? could be his potential corruption/downfall, but likely knocked out of it by his knights. he hides the phantom ruby where he found it after, actually burying it deeper into the ground, and stepped down from the throne after, giving it to his eldest son

could lead to infinite the jackal later down the line? somehow a part of the bloodline because arthur had a couple more kids after the ruby's influence, born as a result of christmas island experiments?? idk I need to see forces

spent the rest of his life working hard to make up for the damage he did under the influence of the phantom ruby, succeeded in spades in the minds of others, but never found peace with himself

still considered a great king and a hero, very close to caliburn, who was buried with him when he passed away. caliburn was never found, unlike other weapons from the round table, which were sold to museums around the world when avalon became christmas island

The fankids I have currently for my Starlight AU are; Starlight (sonadow), Dimout (knuxouge), Phantom & Jazz (part of a future AU for the fankid AU) (infidget), Opal (metamy) and Peri (name's a work in progress) (REDACTED)

I also have a Boom!Shadarry fankid AU (it's actually older than the Starlight AU); Ecliplse (shadarry) and Dani (sticks/amy)

2. Why did you pick those names/that name?

Starlight and Phantom - asked a discord server cause I was stuck on names

Dimout - reminds me of diamond, also just fun to play around with the light/dark theme

Jazz - I was thinking of Princess Jasmine, stuck with the name when i realized i made the siblings Phantom and Jazz >:]

Opal - I thought the name "Opal Rose" was cute

Peri - was thinking "pirouette" cause she looks like a dancer to me, like i said though, I might change the name eventually

Eclipse - Thought it was fun

Dani - Dani Phantom, also a name i might change

4. Having this/these character/s as their parents, how did it affect them?

Starlight - I feel like Sonic and Shadow would be pretty hands off which left Starlight to have to learn things on his own via trial and error, he has fun though - He's homeschooled by Amy as he doesn't exist in the eyes of the law and they've been putting off getting him an official birth certificate

Dimout - Knuckles is training Dimout to be able to guard the Master Emerald. Dimout doesn't care much for training but feels the pressure to do so and live up to what he thinks are Knuckles' standards. Rouge is often doing GUN missions but when she's with Dimout she tries spoiling him to make up for it. She's his hype man, hypes him up no matter what he's doing (much to Dimout's embarrassment).

Jazz & Phantom - Gadget tries his best, not great but not bad either. Infinite likes to go on long tangents about his old power and his hatred for Shadow (cause i think it's funny). Jazz and Phantom just tend to roll their eyes whenever he does. Both Jazz and Phantom have a better relationship with Gadget, Jazz is closest with him compared to Phantom as they've been work-out buddies since she was small. Infinite tries living through Phantom as he has a bit of the Phantom Ruby in him (hence the red eye), he wants him to harness that power to help Infinite. Phantom does not like Infinite for that reason.

Opal - Thanks to Amy she has a big heart. Metal helps her out with maintenance and how to fix whatever issues occur with her (she's also a robot, not sure if I mentioned that before).

Peri - (REDACTED)

Eclipse - Lived in the woods for a while, Sticks taught them to use their instincts and how to survive in the woods. Eclipse left soon after learning what they needed. Once Barry found them in the trash, they took them in and tried teaching them how to "behave". Shadow didn't care much for them before but now they like causing chaos together.

Dani - Sticks and Amy taught her to be tough and independent, to never let other people's opinions of you stop you from doing what you think is right. She could be a little paranoid thanks to Sticks' conspiracy theories. Dani also cannot control her temper at times.

Some Shadow the Hedgehog fans may be aware that the beta design for Shadow has a different name of "Terios". You can look him up, but he looks so vastly different than Shadow... And yet like him.

In fact, you can see a 3D Terios in action with first edition copies of Sonic x Shadow Generations, as he is technically a DLC code (at least for PS5).

Well, a friend and I got hit with the stick of "creative" and created a whole story out of him.

Basic info is after an Eggman machine exploded, Sonic and Shadow fused into Terios. Those who were at Zone 0 (the blast zone) were unaffected by the blast, as long as they didn't get close to anything else. But outside Zone 0 became a crumbling dimension of statues of the people who lived there. Everything was destroyed.

More info will be below the cut, but have the version of Terios we designed, as well as his companions on his journey: Soliana and Fang!

Fun Fact, we did the math and due to fusing, Terios is roughly two times the size of Sonic and his crew. Like 6-7 foot tall hedgehog.

Soliana and Fang have their own stories, but everything else is below cut!!

Quickly starting with Soliana, her father is a noble from the Sol empire, the brother of Blaze's father. He left for Mobias (that dimension's version of Mobius) to study how Sol Emerald power can effect things. He ended up starting a family, and had Soliana, making her Blaze's first cousin. Unlike most of anyone from Sol or with Sol blood, she has no affinity for the Sol Emeralds. In fact, they can be a hazard to her health. However, after the Mobias Event, and dimension hopping, she was forced to absorb a set of Sol Emeralds and because of how her body handles it, needs many Inhibitor Rings (Limitors) to control and protect her body. It was found out that if all her dark grey spots on her fur turned full Sol Emerald colour, she would perish.

Terios is power hungry so he can try and unfuse himself. He holds the power of Sonic, Shadow AND a set of Chaos Emeralds in his body (Sonic and Shadow fused while Super). He normally is a terrible person, only caring to try and gain power to unfuse. The power needed is that of at minimum 7 Master Emeralds as well as to permanently destroy one universe to revive his own. He may not ever say it, but Fang and Soliana are the closest to friends he has, and they keep him sane.

Fang once was a part of Team Dark, often working with Shadow and Rouge and Omega on tasks. During the events of Forces, he took on his Infinite and won, being given the Phantom Ruby in Infinite's dying moments. It took a toll on him. After the Mobias Event, while is primary goal is revive his dimension, his *secondary* goal is collect as many Phantom Ruby's as possible to keep more people from suffering from it. Unfortunately, it did go slightly to his head, causing him to be awfully possessive of any Phantom Ruby. The one on his belt is the one from his world, and the one he tends to use the most.

Fang is owned by my friend, Soliana by me and Terios technically but us two and Sega.

Virtual Reality weapon: The Phantom Ruby

The Phantom Ruby is one of the coolest gizmos in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. This post aims to analyze the properties and history it has demonstrated throughout the series.

Powers

The Phantom Ruby is a mysterious object that first came into Sonic’s world after a sudden dimensional breach in the atmosphere, bringing down with it the entirety of Angel Island and sparking interest from several parties. From the get go, this artifact already demonstrated an unprecedented amount of power the likes of which even Eggman sought to replicate (to varying success).

As Tails explains in Sonic Forces, the Phantom Ruby is able to feed false information to the brain and trap its victims in extremely lifelike illusions that can draw from their own thoughts and imagination. This includes Phantom Copies, which can look and act like pre-existing individuals, albeit without "souls."

Perhaps its most interesting property, however, is its ability to react to the sense of being and will of others. Paralleling the Chaos Emeralds' “power enriched by the heart,” it can be said that the Phantom Ruby possesses "power enriched by the mind." This is perhaps better demonstrated in Sonic Mania, where the Hard Boiled Heavies suffer radical changes to their appearance and mannerisms based on the minds of the animals powering them as a result of exposure to the Phantom Ruby.

This trait of the ruby is explored to its extreme in Sonic Channel's Otherworldly Comedy, where Dr. Eggman engulfs the planet in various illusions that reflect the people's own impression of themselves, erasing their memories and having them live out alternate lives and scenarios until then only possible in their dreams. This is done by utilizing a weapon still charged with the aftermath of the Phantom Ruby’s energy. The doctor also uses a modified leftover prototype to power himself up to a form akin to Super Sonic, being able to manifest alternate worlds in a whim and create Phantom Copies of creatures as powerful as Perfect Chaos, seemingly having no limitations in regards to energy consumption like Infinite did, although it's unclear to what extent this prototype was modified.

History

The Phantom Ruby's first chronological appearance, Sonic Mania, has Tails convince Sonic to go and check the unique energy signature detected in Angel Island that caused it to fall to the ocean. Dr. Eggman, who detected that very same signal, has also deployed his elite Eggrobo squad to retrieve its source. The Hard Boiled Heavies, granted new powers and greater freedom of thought by the Phantom Ruby, attempt to escape with it, and thus begins the adventure to prevent the gemstone from falling in the wrong hands.

After Sonic and friends, who are in possession of the seven Chaos Emeralds, wreck Eggman and his Phantom Egg, a mech designed to make use of the Phantom Ruby's energy, the group is taken to what appears to be a dimensional void created by the ruby. There, Super Sonic gets caught in the middle of the conflict between Eggman, riding his Klepto Mobile, and the Phantom King, who at this point has long since betrayed his maker, both fighting to get ahold of the gemstone. In the end, Sonic leaves victorious, being teleported to the future alongside the Phantom Ruby.

In the aftermath of this battle, the Phantom Ruby winds up in front of one of Eggman's facilities. The doctor begins to study it closely, learning how to make use of its abilities after his base is attacked by the Jackal Squad. He performs his first real test on Angel Island, creating copies of Pachacamac's village and Chaos, god of destruction. Seeing it in action, Robotnik deems the jewel even more powerful than the Master Emerald itself.

Beholding the Phantom Ruby's incredible power, Eggman aims to replicate it. In this pursuit, he manufactures various faulty prototypes in Mystic Jungle until he can finally perfect it, gifting the final product to the new leader of his army, Infinite.

Eventually, six months after taking over the world, Eggman orders Infinite to dispose of those prototypes, seeing as he had no need for such liabilities. The jackal does a poor job, however, leaving a few unattended. One in particular, the one he dropped while fighting Silver in Mystic Jungle, is discovered by the Avatar, whose heroism would prove enough to activate it.

At the climax of the Eggman War, Infinite uses his Phantom Ruby's power to summon an illusionary sun above the battlefield, aiming to wipe out all of the resistance. The Avatar manages to dissipate it, however, losing his own prototype in the process. Weakened from spending much of his energy to create that sun, Infinite tries to take on Sonic who, aided by the Avatar, beats the mercenary one final time. This causes him to lose control of his powers and be pulled into the Eggman Empire Fortress' decoy reactor, ultimately being consumed by the original Phantom Ruby.

After Infinite's defeat, Eggman reveals he has incorporated the Phantom Ruby into his new Death Egg Robot, claiming to have surpassed Infinite as the ultimate form. Just as the Phantom Egg before it, however, this mech is destroyed by Sonic, his classic self and the Avatar, ending the war and sending both the Phantom Ruby and Classic Sonic back to the past.

Classic Sonic, returning from the future after aiding the Resistance in winning the war, is still chasing after the Phantom Ruby. The gemstone falls into the hands of Heavy Magician, who uses it to reassemble her fellow Hard Boiled Heavies. Thus, Sonic is forced to go on his earlier adventure again, though this time accompanied by Mighty and Ray as well.

As Eggman's plan once again fails, he is sucked into a Phantom Ruby portal, presumably finding himself stuck in Egg Reverie Zone. This is the original Phantom Ruby's last appearance, leaving its fate ambiguous.

Meanwhile, back in the future, the modern Dr. Eggman has yet to give up on his Phantom Ruby exploits. Seeing as how he still had a weapon charged with Phantom Ruby energy, the doctor decides to put it to good use and begins another world conquering plot. By covering the entire planet with the Phantom Ruby's energy, he used what Tails calls "cognitive frictional energy" to generate extreme amounts of energy from the discrepancy between the world's original reality and the new reality overwriting it. By absorbing this resulting energy, Eggman created his ultimate weapon, the Egg Field, a mech capable of reshaping the world around it to erase all of his past failures.

Sonic manages to destroy the weapon by turning into Super Sonic, forcing Eggman to transform into "Super Eggman" by making use of his modified Phantom Ruby prototype. The doctor attempts to persuade Sonic by arguing that these fake scenarios cause harm to no one, but the hedgehog refutes this by saying that the thoughts of Earth's denizens should not be forced out of their minds, and to do that would be to inflict suffering upon the planet. Eggman also attempts to create a fake world tailored to Sonic's every whim, but he manages to see past it and defeat Robotnik, allowing things to return to normal, even if slowly due to how massive the scale of the illusions were.

Eggman, beneath the wreckage of Eggmanland, contemplates fixing his modified Phantom Ruby prototype and using it once more, but Infinite, who was briefly able to leave the Phantom Ruby during the whole event, snatches it from his hand. Initially seeking revenge, he instead accepts his fate as his body disappears once more, dropping the prototype into the lava.

And that was essentially my write-up of the Phantom Ruby! It's a topic I learned I really like, so I hope this was enjoyable to read.

Observations I made while thinking too hard about sonic games Since the earliest sonic games, the plots for the main games have generally followed this pattern:

Eggman finds Otherworldly Thing he can use to conquer the world (e.g. a god, a magical or supernatural item, ancient tech, the chaos emeralds, the Master Emerald), and he often uses the chaos emeralds to release or harness it (unless they themselves are the supernatural thing being used).

Sonic tries to stop Eggman, either before or after Thing has been released/harnessed.

Complications arise when Sonic tries to stop Eggman.

Sonic tracks down the chaos emeralds, often (but not always) with the help of friends.

Sonic goes head to head with Eggman

THEN Sonic goes head to head with the thing Eggman unleashed! (the monster, a black hole, etc.)

What's super interesting is the games that don't follow this pattern. One example is Sonic Forces. Eggman is the final boss in that game, and the supernatural thing (Infinite, using the phantom ruby) is the first warmup boss. And I remember when that game first released that that sequence of events felt CHEAP. It felt like it nerfed Infinite's potential as a villain. We were all expecting a huge epic battle with him and then we just... didn't get it. Among other things, I think the issue was that we fought Infinite first, and Eggman second.

Eggman himself is scary, but what's even scarier is the consequences of the crazy things he does in his attempts to conquer the world. That's why it feels best when you fight the big evil thing he messed with after you fight him, because you're fighting the consequences of his actions.

Finn and Zero Ref(Lost Prince AU)

AND THEN THERE'S THIS ASSHOLE! He's not that bad to draw if I remove the shoes & mask but jfc his shoes are harder than Shadow's. This fucker's shoes look like he stole an Inkling/Octoling's shoes if you look at 3D models.

I guess it's finally time to explain the ghost & some comments I made in the Pride Month post.

So yeah I gave Infinite a dad, for some reason I got inspired by a fic on A03(I still have a link but the fic has been deleted) were Sonic apparently knew Infinite in the past back when he was Finn & despite Infinite being a war criminal Sonic wanted to help him thanks to past memories/promise. Yeah I've turned this into that thing I did with Sally.

Asides from the fact I named Infinite's dad Finn due to the fic that I got inspiration for him from I also gave Infinite the name Zero because that & sometimes Finn were popular names to give him when he wasn't being Infinite.

I kinda find it interesting to see Infinite redeemed, I wasn't sure at first but some stuff involving Infinite was interesting & I've kinda made Mephile redeemed in the past.(Grant it it's him in a reboot of the world & actually feels guilt for his past actions now that he's lived in a time were he got to have a life)

I dunno why but I gave Infinite movie Robotnik's outfit, I guess it looks fitting.

Finn:

Finn was one of Sonic's friends growing up, Finn use to live down the road from Sonic's adopted parents before Robotnik attacked & burnt Sonic's house down. They eventually met again when Finn started living with the part of the resistance Chuck lived with. By the time they meet again when Sonic is traveling with his siblings Finn was an active member of the resistance, traveling around to help while also hoping to run into Sonic.

Finn was an energetic guy, while he can't keep up with Sonic's speed he loves the thrill of running with him & is fairly fast. After losing his home & moving into a community the resistance was in Finn realized he wanted to help & started doing what he was able to since he was to young to go on missions. Helping out with the younger kids & making sure everyone was ok lead to helping him become a leader figure, when he met Sonic again he stayed by his side & helped him get along with everyone. As he got older Finn helped on missions, traveling to other areas to help the resistances in those areas & tell them what news he could.

He was devastated when Sonic went missing but eventually tried to move on for his & Sonic's sake keeping Sonic's memory alive. He eventually moved to the main land with his son & retired to a life of peace(along with maybe secretly doing some writing) eventually taking up painting. While a strong & smart man he sadly was growing weak in his old age thanks to becoming ill, despite moving on Sonic was always on his mind at times leading to telling his family about Sonic to keep his memory alive. In his dying days he hoped for the best for Zero, hiding some important things for him which was common for people back during the war.

Infinite/Zero:

Zero's life had a lot of ups & downs, mostly downs from losing his mom at a young age to constantly getting in trouble as a kid. The only things that kept him going were his father Finn & his ragtag group of friends that eventually became the Jackal Squad.

Zero lost his father a few days after the ill man fell down the stairs during their final argument about Zero being brought home by the police. Zero was heart broken but Finn never blamed him & was more worried about Zero being on his own. Zero & his friends eventually disappeared only to show up as the Jackal Squad only to later lose them when Shadow fought them after Zero chose to work for Eggman. He eventually went mad from not being strong enough & past mistakes leading to allowing Eggman to use him for the Phantom Ruby.

After the events of Sonic Forces at some point he was found while everyone was rebuilding, he was wondering alone & without the Phantom Ruby. It seems the unknown time he was gone & also getting the Phantom Ruby removed he'd come out of his insanity enough to regret a lot of life choices. Surprisingly Sonic is the one to allow him to redeem himself despite some of his friends(Shadow, Rouge & Knuckles, Vanillia if she was there) knowing fully well Sonic was terrified & traumatized.

Sonic wanted to try & give him a second chance since he could see Zero regretted his actions with a clearer head & something seemed to make Sonic talk the others into letting him redeem himself. Zero is currently being kept an eye on by some of the ex-resistance(from Sonic Forces not Underground) & staying Gadget, who has finally returned from traveling & helping out.

It's a long journey & frustrating on both sides but Zero is still going, trying to prove he's not going to become Infinite again & growing close to Gadget & Sonic. Now if only he could figure out why Sonic thought he was Finn, he can't help but faintly remember his dad telling him about a blue hedgehog. After losing Finn Zero has kept his favorite bandana safe & now wears it over where the Phantom Ruby was.

Weirdly enough originally a couple weeks back(when I posted this originally on DA) I wasn't sure how I wanted to go with Zero, at some point at the time I wanted to make it seem like there was doubt Zero was Infinite but imply he was either a clone or some how part of Infinite was in a clone body.

Zero's memories would allow him to answer some questions but also make him at times question if he's the real Infinite, either way he's willing to be punished for Infinite's crimes as he feels guilt for his other self's actions. In the end I wasn't sure if I wanted nothing to happen so Infinite is gone & Zero is doing better or Infinite shows up, tries to attack but is either defeated by Gadget & Zero or Zero defeats him, they become whole again with Zero in control & continuing his community service while everyone is more positive about him now that he's shown he's not evil.

Yeah everything but Finn is a mess. Funny enough for a little I wasn't sure if I wanted Zero to be Finn's son or grandson before settling on being Finn's son.

Sonic World project plan: Shadow the Hedgehog (Vol. 2)

This series is not an assured project. It is a concept that can still be changed or scrapped.

Synopsis

After the event of "Shadow the Hedgehog" volume one, Shadow has decided to reunite with Team Dark. The rocky reunion is broken up by the impossible return of Mephiles the Dark. They must team-up to stop the new threat of Nominatus, master of technology.

Characters

Shadow the Hedgehog - The ultimate lifeform created by Gerald Robotnik in the Earth dimension. He was brought to Sonic's home dimension by Eggman sometime following his battle with the Biolizard on the Ark. Rouge was the first person he met following his reawakening. For a time, they had quite the bond and formed Team Dark with E-123 Omega. Sometime prior to the battle where Eggman disappeared, Shadow left to be on his own. During the events on this volume, he attempts to repair his status with Team Dark while chasing after the evil Mephiles.

Rouge the Bat - A master thief, treasure hunter, and leader of Team Dark with a flirty personality. She had a close relationship with Shadow and was hurt when he left the team. When he returns, she no longer trusts him enough to lower her guard again.

E-123 Omega - The most powerful robot built by Eggman. He loves to destroy enemies and cause destruction. There is a kinder side to him that only Shadow and Rouge have seen. No matter what, he will always protect his friends.

Mephiles - Dubbed "the Ultimate Lifeform Destroyer," he was created by Infinite the Jackal through the power of the reality-altering power of the Phantom Ruby to torment Shadow. Although the ruby was destroyed and the false reality was torn apart, Mephiles somehow impossibly survived. In a "glitchy" form, he releases Nominatus as part of a plan to destroy Shadow.

Nominatus - An ancient, alien being from the Nero dimension. He can manipulate electronics and radio signals. He was sent eons ago to conquer the world for Black Doom, but he was defeated and sealed within an object known as the "Nominatus Sphere." He morphs Badniks into his demonic minions. His drive is to finish his mission and return home as a champion.

Other Information

The plan for the Nero dimension is for it to take inspiration from the Shinigami realm from the anime "Death Note." The domain of Black Doom is based on the Black Comet.

I got the name "Nero" when I put "Black Doom" through an Italian translation. It's fitting because I've seen two evil characters who were called "Nero." It's a long story though about how I got to using Italian though.

Although there is no romance in the Sonic World universe, the "bond" between Shadow and Rouge is meant to suggest that they were dating once. Officially though, they were just really, really, really, really good friends 😉
