Au where Hollow and Ghost survive and then SILKSONG happens but- hear me out, hear me out-
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hornet was so, so young when the infection destroyed Hallownest. All her abilities in silk are derived from violence and hunting— unlike her weaver brethren, she never delved deep into the arts or healing beyond the basics to survive the destroyed husk of the kingdom.
This has direct consequences when Hollow survives in HK. Despite Hornet’s best attempts, Hollow’s wounds don’t heal quite right.
Hornet can’t forgive herself, never mind the insane reality she managed to save a voided godling from the brink.
(When Pharloom steals her, when she realizes there’s a history of thread, where she can learn how to spin silk maybe to heal-
-at the terrible cost of herself to save people she loves?
Hornet’s never been great about self preservation. All her life, she’s watched other people throw themselves into the abyss.
Now it’s her turn.)
Tumblr media
Alas. Her siblings do not agree with that mindset. And they’re going to get their sister back, hell or high water.
ANYWAYS SOME OTHER DOODLES
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s more of this au if people wanna see!

So, Silksong sees Hornet basically getting kidnapped.
If that's the case, if this takes place after the original, I imagine that Hollow and Ghost will not take it well. (Assuming both are around.)
Thus, this is one of the reasons why Hornet probably wants to find a way back as soon as possible.
Not just because she wants to go home - she knows that if she doesn't, her two siblings are probably going to raze Pharloom to the ground looking for her, especially in Ghost's case.

did grimm ever visit pharloom in your au
I like to think so, yeah. Pharloom existing was actually the biggest reason why I took the AU in the direction I did - in the way that Hallownest is just one of many lands one can travel between. I'm not sure how they will explain the memory loss thing implied in the first game (as in, when you leave Hallownest), maybe it'll end up being retconned. If that's the case, then even better for me, since that isn't a thing in my AU.
But to get back to the question. Grimm used to travel a lot, especially before meeting FPK (he still continued to travel, but he stopped by Hallownest far more often to visit him). So at some point, he definitely visited Pharloom. I haven't really had an in-depth brainstorming session about that kingdom yet, I'm waiting for more details about it once (if) Silksong releases (I don't know whether Silksong will be canon in the AU yet, but either way, I'll definitely include Pharloom one way or another).
Since Pharloom seems to be very song/music themed, perhaps that's the reason why he visited (and likely still visits) it. The Troupe are basically like a theatre in the AU, and they need instruments for their performances. Perhaps there are luthiers in Pharloom who craft very rare instruments Grimm would show interest in. Maybe some of the Grimmkin originate from there, Grimm always searches for new recruits for his troupe, and a kingdom centered around music would without a doubt be a home to many young, ambitious musicians, or those artists who lost everything and would search for a new life - Grimm's troupe could give them just that. They would be tied to him through the Nightmare Realm, but compared to many gods, he does not require worship, only loyalty. It's not surprising that many would accept his offer.
And lastly, he would stop by to buy gifts for the family. Zote in particular shows some interest in playing instruments, so Grimm would keep that in mind as he passes through Pharloom. And of course, since the kingdom is still full of life, that means there's plenty of merchants that would offer shiny trinkets or rare crafting resources, which he could bring home as a present for Vyrm.
I would love to put some more thought into different lands. Hallownest and Pharloom are the only named kingdoms that we know of, but I imagine there's many different kingdoms, towns or small settlements you can stumble upon during travels. Some are dead and offer lingering Nightmare Essence that Grimm collects for his rituals, but some are thriving.
Maybe one day I'll create some kind of map to show where Hallownest and Pharloom are located. Hallownest, in my AU, is located in the mountains and has a cold climate, so it would most likely be up north. Pharloom? It's said it's a distant land, and with the coral reefs we see on screenshots, that'd imply it's a lot warmer than Hallownest. And there's also other lands I could include - Vyrm's homeland, the natural habitat of the now extinct wyrms, or the land destroyed by war where Divine originates from, among others.
I love doing worldbuilding for the AU do I do hope I get the inspiration to do this one day! I think it would be fun. Though maybe it's best if I finish the Hallownest fauna first so I don't put too may things on my plate at once hahaha

Just a piece of some silksong doodles I've been working on throughout the day
Art has always been a slow process with me because I have to be careful with my hands, but I'm proud of it so far
(pixel quality is kinda shit because tumblr and since it's only a small portion of a larger piece)
Also not too proud of the shield. I can do shiny bug exoskeleton but I'm kinda shit at metallic

An avid explorer, they've settled in Pharloom for now, enticed by the haunting silk and songs that dance through the kingdom. Perhaps they can even find a voice of their own within...?

Yknow what dawned on me the other day? I can’t remember many of any instances of electricity within Hallownest. The elevators are mechanical, we hear the gears. Same with the trans. The lighting is lumaflies and candles. The closest to electric power things off the top of my head is the soul sanctum machines being powered off of Soul.
This is both fascinating because it’s such a wild concept, complex machines without electricity. But it also makes me thing what else is PK would do with access and information with the technology we have.
Hehe yeah, the only electricity that is present in Hallownest is entirely associated with Monomon, therefore placing it in a sort of foreign, alien light that very clearly does not mesh with the rest of Hallownest. Soul seems to be the raw, undiluted energy of the land and all living things, and so it is tapped into as a replacement for the more tangible, familiar sources of power that we think of, like coal or electricity. They're likely sister sources- most of how we work is through electrical impulses, after all, and those weird soul sanctum mages in the coli use lightning- but soul is probably more stable and easy to source, considering the fact that there's literal pools full of it located around Hallownest. It's sort of like the life pulse of the land, which can then be siphoned into other things to power them, and drawn back out as necessary.
The way I like to think of it is that Hallownest is incredibly technologically advanced, but not in the same sense of the word as what we'd use for ourselves; it uses a fusion of magic and tech that follows rules and engineering requirements, but would be completely inaccessible to us. Comparing it to what little we know of Pharloom- who seems to be set roughly in the period of the industrial revolution, as they seem to use coal and steam engines- and this becomes even more apparent. I like to call Hallownest the bug Atlantis for this very reason, because the way I see it is that being in a realm so rich with gods makes it a bounty of natural magical resources, which have been used in creative ways for a good long while before other civilizations ever figured out basic things like the steam engine, which costs a lot more natural resources and is a lot more crude/filthy than soul-powered energy. Perhaps that's part of the reason why PK claimed other civilizations did not exist outside of Hallownest- he did not consider them advanced enough to be worthy of the title
As for how PK would fiddle with our own technology, I feel like he'd be fascinated by how far we've come without the guidance of a higher being like him, but would grow bored with it incredibly quickly, as he'd be able to outpace our own developments far more rapidly than we ever could. Dude would have figured out nuclear fusion and created a stable model for energy farms way before we did, and would look down on us for being slow about it. Which makes sense, as he is the God of Mind and has thousands of years of experience capturing and experimenting with extremely volatile energy sources, but it would be very humbling and extremely infuriating to deal with

ermmmmm hk s/i loredump below 👍👍 (there will be spoilers as I will plainly say it)
ivie is born in hallownest as a small one but is sadly an orphan, her family's kind is still a mystery to her but the only creature who took her in was salubra the charm lover - she became ivie's mother figure, was born and raised under her care. ivie doesn't know the world beyond where she is (and that includes the history behind the pale king) but she only knows select routes (she also regularly visits dirtmouth, the only town that has some company) that salubra told about. as a grown firefly she usually runs errands for her mother figure since she has the ability to fly with ease, and exploration isn't hard for her because she can light her way in dark places with no problem. the issue with ivie is that she's dangerously curious for her own kind and would drive herself to risky paths just to answer her wonders.
when the infection began to crack due to the inability of the THK to continue to contain it, it started to eventually affect the minds of simple bugs with orange fumes, it didn't reach her YET, but she carried on with her daily chores requested by salubra - however this day, was a huge favor - more than a daily chore. she was told to look for lifeblood seeds so it meant she'd have to wander farther than the usual.
it took her a whole day to look for a lifeblood cocoon (the one located in king's pass, and also where the little knight appears). her curiosity to the king's edge made her lost, but it made her all the more excited to keep going even if it was getting riskier. and that was then, when the infection started seeping into her mind and taking her into the deeper paths into the unknown. she felt her intellectual rights leave her consciousness as the infection pulls her to insanity as most bugs would. like sly and bretta who nearly succumbed to the illness, she sat alone in a corner with confused mumblings to herself, the only thing she could mutter was her mother figure for help. not saying salubra, but mother. everything was hurting. her body kept pricking and it felt like she was going to explode, her wings started to become brittle and tore little by little.
it has been a day and a half since she was infected.
though miraculously, she was rescued by the little knight who gave her a little tap on the head, and shook her back to reality. everything was a blur, a confusion to her. but she was saved by the little vessel. she thanked them for the help, and tried to explain her reason to be in such a dark lonely place. to express gratitude, she leads the knight to the actual place where the lifeblood cocoon is situated, and shared it with them. she had to leave immediately, knowing someone would worry about her - and so she took off, hoping she'd meet the little knight again.
following back home, appearing more fragile and weakened than ever - she comes back to salubra who was worried sick for her and immediately went to check on her. she did not understand what ivie meant when she explains that she felt her consciousness being erased, or that she felt like she was going mad - it's all a garbled mess of trauma. salubra calmed her down, but realized the state of her wings. ivie brought the lifeblood seeds as requested, but salubra felt the need to use this for her, as it's actually quite the magic for healing - and so she allowed her to recover with the labour she brought in.
it did not change the state of the wings however, they're forever tarnished and ripped. would she ever fly again? salubra realized she might've been... too needy on her ability to fly, and thought maybe it's best she should stop relying on ivie. but this little experienced actually provoked an inspiration on ivie.
she has to see what hallownest has to offer.
her injury was nothing but an experience, it was horrifying yes, but made her realize there's so much curiosities in the kingdom she has yet to see - so she told salubra that she wants go on her own adventure to explore and she is more than willing to share the wealth with her mother with whatever she comes across.
and from that moment on, ivie became a wanderer, keen to find anything and everything to answer what she wants to know - and possibly, the past of her family.
extras:
- during ivie's recovery, she mentions about the little knight that recused her - so when the knight actually does visit salubra, the charm lover would immediately recognize them and respect them wholly. (she still has the same sentiments as her canon dialogue would say, just plus the "you saved my daughter" gratitude)
- ivie would also act like a merchant except you MIGHT see her appear in random locations (like cornifer) to sell charms (that are also the same as what salubra sells)

Thoughts on the weapons variety in hallownest?
Disclaimer: not much of a weapons person lol. I did some quick reads on some weapons and their pros and cons and that's about it.
I guess a few things stand out to me in general: 1. in terms of proportions, nails are really big and it's honestly kind of terrifying. I know that bugs can in theory hold proportionately more than humans but that it still depends on factors like the materials the things are made of, but still, just looking at the Nailmasters, Nailsage or even the Grey Mourner makes me afraid of their strength. 2. lots of people just using their bodies. Technically does not count as a weapon but good for them 3. Not a lot of projectiles or far range weapons.
For the most part I can't tell that many details, honestly. I would assume that the flat parts of a nail are probably a way to provide for a way to redistribute tension while parrying, which would probably be most helpful in the cases of heavier nails.
I think I remember someone else stating that it was likely that bugs would use weapons that are best suited for piercing rather than slashing, considering it's more likely to hurt them by targeting their joints and I think that idea makes a lot of sense. After all, that's probably what Hornet's needle, and the lances used by sentries intend to do. Hive Knight also uses a pretty thin and pointy weapon... it kind of reminds me of fencing swords? Though I've never looked at one of those up close. And still, the way Hive Knight uses it looks more like an attempt to slash than pierce so my guess is probably really really wrong.
I'm sure the fools at the Colossseum have more interesting looking weapons, actually since they pretty much dedicate to it. It does seem at least God Tamer's weapon is probably helpful in tearing shells on the surface and maybe using its shape to make it harder for it to get detached from the victim.
Besides this, the other big groups I found were clubs and body features which honestly doesn't exactly count. Cloth uses a club, and the other enemies that can be seen with one are the husk guards in Crossroads and Fog Canyon. I'm kind of surprised these aren't more common since from what I read they shouldn't take much training to use and can cause some nasty injures. Sure their bodies can probably handle slashing and all but cornering someone and hitting them with a club is probably not a bad way to kill but I'm not sure.
Oh and in the projectiles department we have.... pickaxes thrown by the tired working class, whatever those short fools are using, and the mantis disks. I uh, think the first two are very desperate measures and their trajectory is overall easy to follow and dodge. It's probably better to stun someone. Mantis disks seem a bit more effective as weapons since they seem to travel back to the owners, their spinning seed and edge makes it more likely to cut through surfaces and they are probably good enough to stun or wound others from a safe distance before dealing a more lethal blow.
And finally: shout out to the Devouts for doing their thing. I'm still intimidated by them. I like to think that mask is its own kind of dual weapon and defensive item and it's very cool
