Pt. 2
It's the end of the school week, a chilly yet sunny afternoon in the early Philadelphia spring. In the teacher's parking lot, you're surveying the bustling crowd of staff members and students filtering out of Abbott as you lean against the hood of your Fiat 500. When you spot your two favorite senior colleagues you perk up and wave to call attention to yourself. It doesn't take long before Melissa and Barbara notice and approach you hastily, both dying to clock into their weekend time after a long day of work.
"Shall we?" Barb asks, shooting you a smile as she directly beelines for the passenger seat, much to Melissa's chagrin, who hasn't had any luck so far at calling dibs on the front seat.
You push yourself from the hood and pat Melissa's leather-clad arm in sympathy. "You can sit there next time," you assure her and remove your sunglasses to hook them in your neckline. You smirk when it takes Melissa a notable effort to tear her gaze away from your chest.
"You say that every time," she retorts, rolling her eyes, but she slides into the middle of the back seat anyway.
Melissa, Barb, and you decided to start carpooling three weeks ago since you all live in the same part of Philly. The idea came from a plan Jacob had introduced to make Abbott more environmentally friendly, which was met with broad, nearly unanimous approval by the staff. You had to give it to him. Of the many ideas swirling around in his curly head, this one is actually decent.
And you're not just saying that because that was the reason why you fell into Melissa Schemmenti's bed.
A few days into carpooling, Melissa invited you in for a nightcap to commemorate the success of A.V.A festival and the collected signatures for the petition against Legendary Charter Schools. It was just the two of you since Barb had been picked up by Gerald that day. Things led to another, and ever since, your carsharing arrangement turned into a carsharing arrangement with benefits, strictly for blowing off steam after work.
Nobody knows so far, not even Barb, and you want to keep it that way.
After you've plopped down in the driver's seat and checked if everybody fastened their seatbelts, you start the car engine. Unfortunately, you forgot to turn off the Bluetooth on your phone after you listened to music on your wireless headphones in the teacher's lounge and don't notice how your phone instantly connects to your car speakers, continuing where you left off in your playlist.
You freeze when the chorus of a very explicit song starts blaring through the car.
Give me one margarita, I'ma open my legs.
Your eyes widen in realization, and you whip around to Barb, watching her face drop as she processes the song's lyrics.
"Oh shit, uh...," you trail off and rip your phone from the charging cable, frantically typing in your phone's password. Your cheeks heat up in nervousness when it declines.
One time.
Give me two margaritas, I'ma give you some head.
Two times.
Give me three margaritas, I'ma put it in my puss.
Why the fuck isn't face recognition working?
Give me four margaritas, I'ma put it in my tush.
You anxiously glance at Barb, just in time to see her splutter indignantly at the last line and clutch her chest in horror. Meanwhile, in the backseat, Melissa cackles at your misfortune, holding her middle from laughing too hard.
"Oh god, this is gold," the redhead wheezes and wipes a tear from the corner of her eye. Her face almost matches the color of her hair from the exertion.
You scowl at her before nervously looking back to Barb, who is still listening to the song, staring straight ahead, frozen in speechless terror. After snapping out of your horrified state, you do what you should have done in the first place, had your brain thought of the obvious: turn down the volume control.
What follows is an uncomfortable silence. Barb is looking straight ahead, as are you, eyes wide with mortification, both of you dead set on avoiding eye contact. You take a deep breath to calm your nerves before clearing your throat.
"Sorry about that," you say with a strained, tight-lipped smile and make sure to flip the switch to the radio before turning the volume up again.
The rest of the car ride is quiet, save for the classic rock music playing in the background. Barb seems to have already gotten over the shock of your music taste as she is tapping her fingers on her thigh and bobbing her head to some song by Elton John. You, however, are still very much embarrassed by what happened.
It doesn't help that Melissa is making heart eyes at you through the rearview mirror.
Her mind undoubtedly went straight to the gutter. Whenever you lock eyes with her, she has a suggestive smirk painted on her face, secretly taunting you for your song choice. Your gaze frequently darts to her spread legs, and you can tell she notices by the way she subtly increases the angle each time. You glare at her in warning, not wanting to engage in any flirting while Barb is still in the car with you, but Melissa only raises an eyebrow in challenge.
Determined to avoid further embarrassment, you grip the wheel harder, your knuckles slowly turning white, and try to focus on the road. Fortunately, it doesn't take long before you arrive at Barb's house. You park on the side of the curb and switch off the ignition, turning to the kindergarten teacher with an apologetic smile.
"Sorry again for earlier."
"Mh-hm," Barb hums gruffly, but you can tell from the way her lips curl upward that she sees the situation in good humor. "Have a nice weekend," she sing-songs, swinging the door shut. You wave after her with a smile and click the doors shut before Melissa can switch to the passenger seat.
"No front seat privileges for you," you quip and start the engine again, smirking when Melissa rattles the door handle with a dramatic groan.
"You brought that upon yourself," she grumbles and sinks back further in her seat with crossed arms. You smile when you look at her through the rearview mirror and see the endearing pout on her face. The passenger seat is your only leverage against her, and you will exert it whenever you can, especially since she rarely lets you be in charge elsewhere.
Five minutes later, you pull into Melissa's driveway. You unlock the doors and lower your window, watching the redhead round the car and stop at the driver's side. Your eyes flicker to her cleavage when she leans down to rest her arms on the window ledge.
"I think I have everything for a Margharita inside," Melissa tells you in a husky voice and nods toward her house. Your eyes darken at the implication, and you give Melissa a slow once-over, letting your gaze intentionally linger on her lips, before you give her an answer.
"Alright, Schemmenti, lead the way," you drawl and turn off your engine to follow her inside.
As soon as the door is closed, Melissa pushes you up against it. She wastes no time sliding the lapel of your jeans jacket to the side to kiss the junction between your throat and your neck, working her way up to your lips. You hum and close your eyes at the sensation but escape her grasp before she can claim your lips.
She wouldn't get you to bed this easy after that little stunt in the car.
"You promised me margaritas," you respond matter-of-factly as you push past a stunned Melissa. You walk into her kitchen with a self-satisfied smirk, and she trails right behind you, her eyes twinkling in a sly way that tells you that the game is on.
Melissa saunters past you to her liquor cabinet, resting her tongue on the tip of her canine as she sizes you up, and pulls out a bottle of Tequila. Then, she retrieves some lime juice and triple prosecco from the fridge, placing everything in a neat line on the kitchen island next to two glasses. You watch as she pours the drinks in a practiced and elegant manner, captivated by the movements of her hands, before she hands you one of the glasses.
You clink your glasses and take a sip from your drinks. Melissa observes your reaction with rapt attention, awaiting your verdict on her mixology skills. Her pupils dilate when you don't set your glass down and down the whole drink without breaking eye contact. You place the glass back on the counter and lick your lips in contemplation.
"Hm, not bad, but...," you trail off, pleased by the way Melissa's eyes darken at the perceived criticism, "there was no salt rim. Unfortunately, I have to deduct points for presentation."
Melissa eyes you up and down, calculating her next move as she empties her own drink. You suppress the shiver creeping up your spine when you see the wicked glint in her eyes, familiar from whenever you would rile her up or be bratty on purpose.
You are so done for.
Melissa walks to another cabinet and fetches the salt, putting it on the counter before you. She pours you another drink and comes to a halt next to you, pressing the margarita into your hand. You watch intently as she shrugs off her leather jacket and leans back against the counter, inadvertently pushing her chest out.
"Well, help yourself."
Your mouth falls open slightly when you realize what Melissa wants you to do, your face heating up to an unbearable degree. You inch closer until your hips press against hers and grab the salt from the counter. Skipping over her lips entirely, you bow down to her neck and attach your lips to the soft skin there, sucking hard. You smirk against Melissa's skin when you hear her breathing falter and lick a broad stripe over the dip above her collarbone.
When you draw back, Melissa's pupils are completely blown, the green of her irises almost entirely consumed by black. Melissa tries to follow you, but you push her back with your pointer finger, your gaze dropping to her heaving chest when she settles back against the counter. You sprinkle some salt onto the hollow of her throat and take the margarita, taking a sip before descending to Melissa's throat once more.
Melissa throws her head back and moans lowly when your tongue connects with her throat again and starts to lap up all the salt from her skin. You slowly inch your way toward her jaw, making sure to leave marks along the way, and claim her lips with your own at last. Not a second later, Melissa's hands grab your hips to swivel you around, making you gasp into the kiss as your back hits the kitchen island.
You should have known that Melissa would only let you be in charge that long. But you don't complain when she starts unbuckling your pants and pulls them down to your ankles before hoisting you up on the kitchen island. The last thing you see before you throw your head back is her smirk as she descends between your spread legs.
It seems you proved the song right.
━━━
When you recover from your orgasm, Melissa lazily kisses her way up to your throat and lays her head on your chest. "Maybe this convinces you to let me sit in the passenger seat the next time," she mumbles against your skin and places a soft kiss on the swell of your breast. You absentmindedly play with her hair while you catch your breath.
"After today, I'm not sure I could behave. Besides," you say, lifting Melissa's chin with your pointer finger so she locks eyes with you again, "I have a much better seat for you."
Melissa snorts when you quirk your eyebrow suggestively and detangles from your grasp. She holds out a hand to assist you down from the kitchen island, and you slide straight into her arms, taking your time to kiss her sweetly and languidly before you pull away.
"I mean my face," you hurriedly add, although no clarification was necessary. Melissa chuckles in reply and starts tugging you toward her bedroom.
"Yeah, I figured."

“So, I met Jaden last week,” Max says with a mouthful of food, finally bringing up the topic after a wholeass week. “He’s cute.”
David rolls his eyes at that.
“What?” Max frowns. “You don’t wanna talk about boys?”
“I would like to talk about one boy in particular,” David replies. “Lance.”
Max groans inwardly.
It’s been a little more than a month since he came back. Max has hung out with Arthur a whole bunch of times since then. But not with Lance – not since that disastrous first meeting.
Every time he tries, David replies that Lance is busy – with class or practice or homework or he isn’t feeling well.
Max knows David isn’t pleased either, but he doesn’t seem to want to push Lance too much. Max can’t relate. He likes pushing people.
“What’s wrong with him this time?” Max asks since he had inquired if Lance is free to attend a music festival in Philly. “Maybe got chicken pox?”
David moves the food around on his plate. “He got it when he was seven.”
Enjoy the double chappy update here on ao3 while I disappear for a bit to write a report that was due last month oops

Jayhawks Tour Update April 2024
Tumblr media
Spring has sprung and we've got a bunch of shows coming up - with more announcements on the way.
We're back on the road in a few weeks with a show in St. Louis followed by two nights in Nashville. Our old pal and bandmate Stephen McCarthy will be joining us for the 2 Nashville shows, making for a very rare Jayhawks lineup.
We return to the east coast in early May with 4 shows, including a headlining slot at the Sing Us Home festival in Philly. NOTE: due to an unavoidable conflict, Karen Grotberg won't be able to make these May shows. As in recent years, Stephen McCarthy will be filling in with us again for this run.
In June, we'll be making our only Twin Cities concert appearance of the summer on 6/6 at the cool Utepils Brewing Company location, tucked away in the Bryn Mawr neighborhood. Then we're off to Spain to do some shows with our good friends at Heart of Gold.
On the Fourth of July we're doing the American Music Fest in Berwyn, IL, followed by a one off in Western Michigan. August finds us in the Ohio Valley for a couple of shows.
We're working on more 2024 shows to add to the schedule - the latest tour news can always be found on our website.

Phil the Viking + Tim’s Adventure +  Worst Day Ever. + The Rabit iz comin to get you
Video #1
Video #2
Video #3
Video #4
Hello besties! Another day of AmazingPhil circa 2008! We have quite a few I wanted to cover in a single sitting because I was inspired by their very in-depth and meticulous Met Gala review that you can see on Phil’s Instagram. Just looking at the titles, I can tell we are going to be in for an adventure!
Phil the Viking
I’m already nervous for what this could be. This past weekend I did a ton of independent research into Dip and Pip lore and I watched a video that was just Phil barking at the camera and let me tell y’all, that shit has scarred me.

Ok, originally I was nervous because in these early youtube days, Phil doesn’t really have any rhyme or reason to his titling UNLESS he has made some kind of music lipsyncing video. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this was a vlog! Phil and some of his friend stared ina move called Faintheart which billed itself as “the first user generated movie”. Over 1400 myspace users auditioned for the movie and 11 non-professional actors were selected including our own Phil Lester who played Tim. I will link the imdb page here if you are interested in the plot of the film, but just to be warned, it sounds like it was as… good… and you think it is.
It was presented at a film festival, received mixed reviews, and actually was nominated for a couple of awards. It’s crazy to think that Phil could have continued a career in actor. What a life that would have been.

TAG! INSTANT KARMA! PASS THIS VID 4 HUMANITY!!! By KingHuman
Ok yall, the last video spoiled me because Phil is back in business as the king (I assume) of the weird side of youtube. It is very interesting to think that this era of Phil is the one Dan was like, “Yeah, we need to be friends”.
Tim is a little guy who lives in Faceland (Phil’s actual face). The story of Tim is sad and short. He wished to find live and had to fight many uphill battles to be with his beloved, just for them both to be consumed by a dragon. This is not animated. This is nearly a minute of drawings on Phil’s face that I assume took at least a couple hours. This was, honestly, peak creativity. Bonus points for Phil for washing his face, I guess.

Sing A Long by checkyourself
This was a song for men about how to check yourself for testicular cancer. I did a bit of research on that one. (10/10 for prioritizing health)
We love a storytime youtuber! Apparently Phil has a fear of rollercoasters? Not really, but he dreamed that he had killed an entire cart of passengers on a rollecoaster because he forgot to engage the harnesses. He was actually killed in his dream by a group of theme park mascots. While wearing a full suit and tie, he just talks us through an awful day from beginning to end. The ending, however, is true 2008 Phil and I 100% recommend you watch it.

The Rabit iz comin to get you
I promise that I did not decide to spell it like that. That title does not contain any mispellings by me, I promise. That is all our Philly’s doing.

CHILDHOOD STORYTIME!! Yay! Did you know baby Phil wanted to be a vet because he liked animals and wanted to help them. I could cry. He has always just been a little bean. He also wrote a murder story though, so I guess the sweet and terrifying evens out. The title comes from a story her wrote with the same name. The rabbit killed everyone and he could only be defeated by an entire army. I feel like I understand Phil less than I did before actually? Like what is going on? Why didn’t he become a horror author or horror movie director? Why didn’t his parents put him in therapy? Maybe they did. Imagine being Phil’s primary teacher and you notice that he as a tendency to write stories about murder and death… I would have nightmares.

best mcr songs and why
ok well my top 5: heaven help us, boy division, deathwish, vampires, famous last words
only the first two are in specific order
heaven help us has been my favorite mcr song for a looooooong time and it’s like. MY song. everyone i know knows what is my song. when i listen to it in the car, before the tour even started, i envision myself on barricade hearing it live and i CRY!! every time, like i’ve cried in a full face of makeup listening to heaven help us on the way to work multiple times. it’s the best….it’s everything. the first time they played it live on tour in europe my friend who i had never spoken to on the phone before CALLED ME AT WORK to tell me about it and i had to go hyperventilate in the bathroom. i held out hope all tour hoping i would get ut at one of my shows and i DIDNT!!! when tour was like over and they played it twice in la i literally was sitting in my bed SOBBING! at like 2am on the east coast…but listen i’m putting out the energy for them to play it at wwwy….surely they will have the time to play the bsides! or at least one of them. i’m serious like ok yes, hearing tbp live in full twice is going to change the trajectory of my life all over again!! i cant even imagine me and all my friends together hearing the heart monitor start without thinking well surely someone is going to projectile vomit…like. it’s that. it’s that serious. i’m going to rethink and grace and shit my pants and cry and scream and i may need to be airlifted out of the las vegas festival grounds. but heaven help us….i cant die until i get heaven help us!!
boy division just. fuck. it slays. i remember when it leaked. like the night before it came out there was a preview of it on like german amazon or something 😭 and i remember i kept listening to those 30 seconds over and over again and CRYING!!!! like sobbing, if i could get my og macbook to turn on i have really embarrassing pics of myself bawling on photo booth FHDEIKEK. but also i remember thinking, when it came out, i ALWAYS thought like oh my god this is going to go so hard live. SO HARD. and then they broke up and every single time i listened to it i thought about how we would never get to hear it live and what a damn fucking shame that was. and then they reunited and i went to the shrine and they played make room and i was like ooooooh. well now there is a REAL chance that i could hear boy division one day. i manifested it for the 2.5 years between that show and the tour and when i saw the eden 1 setlist leak before the show and boy division was on it i actually like almost shat in the office at work. and then yes they played it at my first show on the tour mk1 and like at least half of my shows on the tour i swear i made that happen by sheer force of will.
deathwish. just always been one of my favorites, it goes SO hard, it’s so fun to sing, it really like the melody of it just pulls on my heart it tugs it makes me so melancholy so. i don’t even know what feelings it invokes it just makes me FEEL. this big bubble in my chest. and the lyrics are so good like it’s really a quintessential mcr song for me. no one else writes music like that.
vampires is just like. idk the iconic. the first single. it “locked in that darkness” i remember when they played it for the first time in philly, bc we were all camping for albany which was the next night and we were watching the stream around a someone macbook in the queue and when vampires started ohhhh it was over!!! they played it at my first show in 2011 and even though i have like a horrible memory especially for my childhood/teenage years and i don’t REMEMBER my first mcr show i always like remembered the fact that vampires was like the best live performance of a song i’d ever heard, and i have been to a LOT of shows and i’ve seen a LOT of bands and vampires never fails!
and flw, listen…i know people like to hate on it!!! idgaf. it will never get old. i will never tire of it. it will never not hit me so hard. i remember being a depressed teenager and laying in bed at night not able to sleep just listening to flw over and over and over in order to make it through. plus hearing the crowd sing the bridge at every show ever…it’s the most magical thing in the world to me!!!!

went back to the cd store today! they had EVEN MORE classical music and it was fabulous! i got four things
Tumblr media
(top left) Respighi's Roman Trilogy (pines of rome, fountains of rome, roman festivals) recorded by Riccardo Muti and the philadelphia orchestra. muti's a great conductor and i love the philly orchestra's sound! however this was quite cheap so that makes me curious about it. i haven't listened to it yet but i look forward to it!
(bottom left) Trumpet music by Maurice Andre! this is 2 cds with a shit ton of baroque and classical trumpet solo pieces recorded by possibly the best trumpet player in the world before he died, so, as a trumpet player, i was obligated to purchase this once i saw it. i also have not heard this yet but i look forward to hearing it! one of the pieces he plays is the Haydn trumpet concerto in e-flat, which in addition to being perhaps the most well-known trumpet concerto in existence is the piece i played at my district solo & ensemble festival this year! maurice's recording of the haydn concerto is probably one of the best out there, alongside tine thing helseth in my opinion
(bottom right) Sibelius 5th symphony & Andante Festivo & Karelia Overture recorded by Neeme Jarvi & Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. Gothenburg isn't my favorite orchestra but the 5th is just a fabulous symphony and was a nice addition to my small collection! i am not familiar with how Jarvi conducts sibelius so it will be interesting to see how it goes! i also have not heard the two couplings (i've heard the karelia suite but not the overture) so it should be fun!
(top right) Shostakovich opera Katerina Ismailova recorded by the soloists, choir, and orchestra of the Kiev Opera under the direction of Stepan Tourtchak. i have never heard of this orchestra, this choir, these singers, this conductor, or even this record label but i am listening to it as i write this and the sound is not terrible (it gets a little distorted when the full chorus sings loudly but it is completely managable) and it seems to be a pretty good performance! and i wanted to get it because it seems to be pretty rare and thought it might get swiped up soon! (the last time i went there was a full performance of Berg's Wozzeck and i wanted to get it this time and it was gone :'( )(interestingly Wozzeck was purchased but the two copies of Carmen and the many copies of several Wagner operas all remained unsold)
in conclusion, a successful trip! i only spent like 23 dollars after tax so i'm happy with that. they had a recording of khachaturian's gayane suite (also the only khachaturian cd in the whole store) that i really wanted to get but it alone was 17 dollars and i did Not have the money for that lol

sorry whats the deal with stagecoach? as far as i know it’s nothing related to hockey just a country music festival. not hating just curious!
ahaha it's not really. i'll explain
t. zegras went to stagecoach with j. drysdale and j. mahura in 2022. he had a thing with emma macdonald at that time and she posted pics of them there
last summer he went again with jamie and also with c. york. they (trevor & jamie) met kelsey and brynn from dance moms there, and then kelsey ended up in philly in february, altho whatever that was seems to be very over now
this year emma, dixie, kelsey, and brynn are all confirmed to be going
it's only related to hockey beause t. zegras and his buddies go and usually some funny pictures/messy drama comes out of it lol, and this year all of the individuals involved in years past seem to be going again (the guys are not confirmed yet), so everyone's hoping some fun tea comes out of it

Have you met any authors or famous people?
Yes!
I have met: David Boreanaz, Noah Wyle (ER) (they were both INCREDIBLY nice), Kate Flannery (Meredith from the office she was the nicest person on the planet), Joey Fatone from Nysnc (in 2011 lol so not during peak NSYNC days! Also extremely nice), Katherine McPhee (American idol), Marc Paul Gosselar (Zac Morris), Breckin Meyer (also two very nice people), Anna Kendrick, Emily blunt (neither of them were nice and it made me so sad), Tom Hardy (though I did not know who he was at the time 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣), a couple actors from the twilight movies (people who played werewolves no one very famous), and I’m sure there were a few more but I am blanking. I met them all because i used to work for a traffic / radio station in Philly and one of the on air people had a show where he interviewed people. Bradley cooper came in on my day off, I was DEVASTED.
I also met the guy who played Mr Belding on saved by the bell, he came to my college.
I’ve also met various bands at music festivals. My favorite one was the lead singer of Relient K because he asked me how long I’d been a fan of the band and I told him since I was in 8th grade and I’m a junior in college now and he was like… wow ok we’re old 🤣

Stuff I'm Looking Forward To in March
Wow, somehow it's already month 3 of 2024. In addition to Daylight Savings Time (March 10 - Spring ahead), Ramadan (March 10-April 9), St. Patrick's Day (March 17), first day of Spring (March 19), Palm Sunday (March 24), Holi (March 25), Good Friday (March 29), and Easter (March 31) here is what's on my radar this month:
Movies:
Dune: Part Two
Denis Villeneuve has become one of the great visual stylists of recent years thanks to films like Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. I named his film Dune Part One, one of my Best Movies of 2021. How good Part One really was depends on Part Two, which drops 3/1.
Knox Goes Away
Michael Keaton has always been a tremendous actor and now he's back in the director's chair for the second time with a starring role about a contract killer who has a form of dementia and he attempts to connect with his estranged son. Oh and Al Pacino co-stars! Opens 3/15.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
A Ghostbusters sequel is a tall order. Jason Reitman's 2021 sequel Ghostbusters Afterlife actually had its moments and it had a lot to say about living up to a legacy, in the film it's the grandchildren of Egon, but it could also be Jason Reitman about the fear and honor of continuing a film series that his dad Ivan began. The new sequel is directed by Gil Kenan, who co-wrote this with Jason. The fact that original Ghostbuster cast members are back gives me hope. Sequel drops 3/22.
Music:
Sheer Mag Playing Favorites
I was lucky enough to see Philly rockers Sheer Mag at House of Blues in May 2022. After two solid albums, they are finally back with their third, dropping on 3/1. (Review to come)
Liam Gallagher & John Squire Liam Gallagher John Squire
Former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher's solo career has been a mixed back, but his album As You Were was one of my Best Albums of the 2010s. As shown in the 2019 documentary Liam Gallagher: As It Was, he doesn't need to play music for money or fame, he has plenty. He plays because he loves music. Now he's doing a new album with John Squire, former guitarist for The Stone Roses. Sounds like a serious meeting of musical minds! Album drops 3/1.
The Black Crowes Happiness Bastards
The first new studio album from The Black Crowes since 2009 is cause for celebration. After a bitter break-up in 2015, the brothers Chris and Rich Robinson announced they were reuniting in 2019. In early 2020, I caught an acoustic live show from Brothers of a Feather (my last concert before the pandemic lockdowns) and since that show, The Black Crowes have had some reunion tours (NOTE: by reunion - I mean Chris and Rich, not the original lineup). They've released some anniversary albums, but this marks the group's first studio album in 15 years. Looking forward to it when it drops on 3/15.
The Dandy Warhols Rockmaker
I've always loved Portlandia's The Dandy Warhols. Through this blog, I've had the pleasure of interviewing lead Dandy Courtney Taylor-Taylor and keyboardist / bassist Zia McCabe, the band's 2019 Boston concert, and their excellent 2019 album Why You So Crazy. Now the band is back with a new album dropping on 3/15! (Review to come)
Film Festivals:
Boston Underground Film Festival
Boston's fun genre film festival for horror, fantasy and bizarre is back. I've had the pleasure of covering this fest from 2016 to 2019 and returning last year. The fest returns to The Brattle Theatre (Cambridge, MA) from 3/20 to 3/24!
Conventions:
Northeast Comic Con
I've had a blast covering the Northeast Comic Con for years now (read my coverage here) and the Spring 2024 edition returns with guests like Kevin Chapman (who I worked with on Monument Ave), a Growing Pains reunion of Tracey Gold, Jeremy Miller and Julie McCullough, The Go-Go's drummer Gina Schock and more! Convention is at the Boxborough Regency (Boxborough, MA) from 3/8-3/10. (Coverage to come).
Awards Season:
The awards season for the best of 2023 continues on with the Razzie Awards, actually the Worst of 2023 (3/9) and the Academy Awards (3/10).

making a separate post for this so I don't hijack a gifmakers post but
Tumblr media
@burntstay u literally have no idea! the entire past 2 years have been insane so excuse my rambling post
1. I went to see Dan last Nov and Dec. I went in November when he came to Seattle and got SO excited to finally meet him after so many years that I stumbled all over the MnG and couldn't respond to his very gentle kind compliments. So I flew to Oakland to see him again 😭 It hurt my bank account but not only did I meet him at that show during the MnG but he talked to me during the show too (interactive comedy show and I said I'd fuck the cinnamon toast crunch mascot bc he's a twink. he booed me but then brought it up several more time 💀)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
November and December, respectively. (yeah he did accidentally get that fucking silver marker on my arm 💀)
2. Also in November, I had the opportunity to catch Kurtis Conners set he was doing in Seattle :] I went to the early show in the balcony bc it was what i could afford and Loved it sooo much but couldn't see bc I didn't have glasses at the time and at the end when I was calling my friend to talk about it, someone offered me 3rd row tickets because they had to cancel for a family emergency. I took them, could see the set, and it was just as funny the 2nd time!
the next day I'd taken my friend to Pikes Place (popular indoor/outdoor multi-vendor permanent market in Seattle) and ran into him and Jenna in the comics store!
Tumblr media
^ me being so insanely happy but embarrassed bc I was partially non verbal and was trying so hard to communicate with him. (he was so incredibly kind and patient and then I helped him find the script he was looking for 😌 <- I do not work at that store)
now rapid fire! I also got to finally see Cirque! my old boss at the club had an extra ticket and brought me along!! (I have tried to sew Cirque THREE times and circumstances have always gotten in the way. mostly me moving abruptly like a week before the date they were in town)
In April, I got to see Hippocampus (one of my FAVE indie bands idc idc) and the guitarist Nathan gave me a pick! I also got to see Conan Gray again (saw him in 2019 without knowing who he was and got obsessed) and Cavetowns show with Tessa Violet. and Tessa RECOGNIZED ME which would have been insane anyways but I look SO different from the past times I've seen her!! I also saw some smaller bands and they were some of the most lovely kind caring people ever!
and then in June I saw 5SOS for the first time. I've been listening to them since I was a little tumblrina in 2014 and I cried so hard during their show. pure unadulterated nostalgia and joy. it was a really good show too (and that month my BFF who I usually go out to Philly to see once a year was able to come to ME because of a work conference 🥹 and my partner came up for our yearly 1 month together!)
also that month I met a comedian I ADORE!!! I found him by accident on Dry Bar Comedy in maybe 2015? and have watched his stuff on YouTube and followed him on Twitter since and I randomly ran into him in a vintage store in Tacoma??? And of course the first thing my dumb ass said instead of "oh wow it's Shayne Smith!! I'm a huge fan" no... I said "YO it's the guy I showed u that one time when I was drunk!!!" to my sister 😭😭 He luckily is a really dope guy, thought it was very funny, and danced around with me
In October I went to a music festival out east and saw a BUNCH of my favorite bands and King Princess said I looked hot, so highlight of my compliments fr (and saw mitski!) Lorde was coming but her set got massively delayed due to faulty tech and I had to make the last train so I didn't get stranded and did not get to see her.
Also I got matching tattoos with my other bff who I flew to seattle to stay with me for a week 🥹 hi @catholicdaredevil
which circles us back to the November/December stuff I talked about first cuz I got excited
The rest of the winter was just struggling through till I saw the sun again but I DID get to meet a long term internet friend at the convention in Seattle (s/o to @pjsforestkid for so lovingly dealing with my low energy the whole day)
April I saw Noel Miller live!!! June my partner came up and we traipsed around
and then September and October I got to sew 4 hozier shows, was barricade for 3 of them (and have professional photos for all 3 times I was barricade which is INSANE!!!!!), hozier called me out on stage for my shirt, I got posted on his ig, and I met almost the entirety of a friend group I've had since 2019 AND DanandPhilGames returned from the hiatus
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's been an insane almost 2 years I finally feel like my life is sorting itself out and I'm so overjoyed
this is such a long fucking post but your tags just reminded me of all the joy and love I have been experiencing and the love that continues!!! I am so happy :)
