10. Do any of your OCs contain any symbolism in themselves/their story?

I'm not quite certain what this means / how it would be done but... yeah, sometimes? I don't often add symbolism into my characters intentionally. Symbolism kinda happens to me incidentally KRKJF like for example, Beau cracked his guitar late in SOBR, and then a few chapters later smashes it, and to me, I'm like, well, you can read the cracking as being the last indicator that he's on the brink of destruction, and then once the guitar is destroyed, it's the utter point of no return, and moments after the inciting incident of the final act occurs.

22. Do your friends and family know about your OCs/story? How much?

A little bit! I told my family about SOBR since like. Well. Me writing a book is pretty important to me. They all only know as much as the book tells them, and I haven't told much about them beyond that because I'm very much, like... not in the business of talking to my family about my interests/creations.

I'm more open with it about my friends, and I've told a handful of coworkers about the book at this point. Some of y'all here know a lot about these characters, but IRL I don't tell people all too much.

33. Have you ever had to kill off an OC? How hard was it?

Yeah, I killed off Beau and I cried writing it KRKFDJN It was hard, but I was dedicated to him dying since... basically his inception. It was his inevitable end, no matter how much I should like him to live. I love Beau as a character, he's really fun to write, but alas. He was doomed from the start.

I have also gotten teary imagining killing off other OCs, even in stories I haven't written. I grieved the idea of killing off Wulfstan even though I don't know if I'd ever get around to writing his story.

Like 2/3s of the original SOBR cast will wind up dead by the end of SOBR 2 (Luis and Casey win by doing absolutely nothing) most likely, and I know it'll be hard to do that, too, whenever I get around to writing it. Such is life.

34. What scene that you've written/imagined is your favorite?

I can't say favorite, because I really don't know what scene in SOBR is my favorite, but I'll just pick out one I really like.

Sorry, I know this is long, but it's formatted for print lol. The scene is also just kinda long, but I really like this scene. To me, this is where the book "gets good." Like it was good before then but around this portion of the story is when it really takes off, I guess. Warnings for death and violence I guess?

38. Do you like telling random people about your characters, or is it a more private thing?

Heavily depends on the social context. If, say, I'm in a Discord server and the topic of OCs comes up, I'll happily discuss. But I'm not always forthcoming, especially not about the SOBR cast because I feel self-conscious, like it feels like self-promotion... as if promoting the literal novel I plan on releasing and selling later this year is a bad thing. It's embarrassing to me, but I've been trying to get better at talking about my work openly, at least with people I know. Strangers, no. Not until the book comes out and then they will not be able to escape me /j

GUH THATS HARD… okay i will talk about how much i really hate gingerbread. i cant handle it. stalest ass-tasting cookie in the universe even when freshly made. i bake a lot but i will refuse to bake gingerbread. in fact, most “holiday” foods really suck, especially eggnog. the only holiday food I enjoy are latkes 😎

hmmm lets go find a new roof. like. one of those that isnt toooo far off the ground but comfortable enough to dangle our legs off the side of. that would be real nice. :] we can play some funky songs from one of our phones and just, chill. that would be really nice actually

40. did you have any snacks today? 

literally all i eat are snacks. its hard to get up and makes meals when your workin at your desk all day lol.  the last one i had was a choccy chip granola bar. :D

AO3 Wrapped Questions

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

I definitely never measure my success by popularity, considering my environmental niche on AO3 is posting the most hyper-specific shit about side characters most people ain't interested in to begin with lol. Ain't no good to play a numbers game.

Anyhow, by and large, my favorite (and, ergo, the one I am most proud of) has to be The Endless Ocean (Or; Leder's Private Treatise on Grief). I really like this one. Leder is one of my favorite Mother series characters hands down. He is so ripe for the picking when it comes to fleshing out the world and his character. He has a lot of depth in and of itself within Mother 3; I admire how Itoi can create the illusion of depth without having to go super in-detail about a lot of the characters. You can just sort of see it, and work your way through it.

So, writing a work that is from Leder's perspective was very fun and rewarding. It took me a while to write, but it turned out really well, and I think it's the best of the fics I wrote this year, out of the four complete fics I had. I also really love fleshing out pre-Mother 3 stuffs. I'd been wanting to do more writing centered on the White Ship and the people on it, since I imagine that there were a lot of people who, for one reason or another, did not make it to Nowhere.

Engaging with all these characters in different stages of grief, how they cope with what they have and what they expect, and how things drastically change when the White Ship survivors erase their memories is fun. And Leder being at the center, the only one who still remembers after all this time? You also get to center on/examine the way his grief manifests, knowing he doesn't get to join the others, but that he did it for the love of them. It's a nice work. I still really like it.

Oftentimes, I reread my works and think they're pretty good, but Endless Ocean is one of those ones I feel is genuinely really damn good. IDK, that's just me, though.

17. Your favorite character to write this year?

Is it cheap to say Leder? I had to avoid saying he's one of my favorite characters to write in the previous question, lol. But it's true! Leder really is my favorite of the characters I wrote for this year. He has so much potential and depth, and I love examining his thoughts and how he approaches everything from his perspective. Leder is so profoundly unique and intriguing. He's the perfect foil to so many other Mother characters.

So, yeah. He's my favorite.

20. Which work of yours have you reread the most?

If it's not The Endless Ocean, then it was probably Feet of Clay. I reread Feet of Clay quite a bit because it's a very chill, slice of life work. It's easy to approach and revisit over and over. It's just a little snapshot of life for Tazmilians during the timeskip period, and sometimes, the simplicity is delightful too, ya know? I love Paul and Abbot as a friendship dynamic, and it's all about them and how their lives intersect with the other villagers at the Clayman Mines. I don't know how many more ways I can find a way to say "it's fun" KRJKF cause that's really the only reason why I keep reading it.

Cole is a (really) normal 12 year old that's very impossible to get rid of. He's like a cockroach in a apocalypse where regardless of how heavy the danger is in any situation, he's somehow able to get out of it (almost) unscathed. Also he contains a lot of autism power and will ramble on abt his silly handmade technology he creates solo using garbage and his interest in Wall-E (2008). Too many things happen to him in the story and it would be nice to put him in this poll where he doesn't face 1000000 dangers
