Let's gooooooOOOOOOOOOO!!!
So, I've been hinting at this for a while now, but my little Tumblr side project, the State Bird Initiative, is going to nominate the American flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber) as a candidate for Florida state bird, at least here on Tumblr for polling. Wouldn't be the only person to recommend that, and this real-world attempt to do so, as seen in the article above, is one in a series of attempts to choose the flamingo as Florida's state bird. Because...yeah, duh, it's an obvious choice. It's also lobbying to elect the Florida Scrub Jay (Aphelocoma coerulescens) as the state songbird, which is a thing in some states. Not a massive fan of that, BUT, I am a fan of BOTH of these birds being considered, and the scrub jay is another candidate that will be nominated for State Bird by the State Bird Initiative here on Tumblr.
Florida residents! The official vote for this bill starts in March! If you're interested in making this a reality, talk to folks and promote the idea! If nothing else, this proves that state birds actually can be a legislative focus, and could be used to promote conservation and ecological knowledge in residents of these states, especially for kids! And hey, if any state needs more focus on education, it's definitely Florida. On stuff that isn't just birds, obviously, BUT IT'S A START

Examples of same-sex pairs successfully raising young have been documented in at least 20 species, and in a few cases, homosexual couples actually appear to have an advantage over heterosexual ones.¹³
13. In some bird species in which same-sex pairs are unable to obtain fertile eggs on their own (or in which homosexual parenting has yet to be observed in the wild), parenting skills have been demonstrated by supplying homosexual pairs with "foster" eggs or young in captivity. Same-sex pairs of Flamingos, White Storks, Black-headed Gulls, Steller's Sea Eagles, Barn Owls, and Gentoo Penguins, for example, have all successfully hatched such eggs and/or raised foster chicks.

Flamingos are a very hardy sort of creature, meaning they will survive in environments where no other life is found (salt water lake with a pH value of 9.5). Suffice to say these birds can withstand quite a lot.
So that breakup must have been bruuuuuuutal.
The American flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber) is in the Náttúruval deck, please checkout the project https://natturuval.is/

Although the standard social unit in Flamingos is the breeding monogamous pair, a number of alternative heterosexual pairing and family arrangements occur.

Flamingo parents (of either sex) typically feed their chicks a blood-red "milk" produced in their crops, and both males in homosexual couples feed their chicks with this crop milk.

This was taken as the flamingos ran pass the dark patch of undergrowth with the exposure biased 1-2/3 stops darker to keep highlights.
