The Pūteketeke: New Zealand's Bird of the Century.
The votes are in, and after two bruising weeks of voting in New Zealand's Bird of the Century, we have a new champion. It carries its young on its back, which is very cute. It enjoys grunting, growling, and barking, as one does. It possesses an elaborate set of mating rituals, including "the weed dance" and "the ghostly penguin," which is great. It has a colorful mullet—j'adore le style. It has a propensity for vomiting. It is, in other words, a worthy champion. Its name is the Australasian crested grebe, otherwise known as the pūteketeke, and we think you're gonna get on just *great*.

If you want to do your bit to help these beautiful creatures, Forest & Bird ask bird enthusiasts to donate an old predator trap through Give a Trap, or add your voice to their collective call-to-action for birds in New Zealand. You can support Forest & Bird directly right here. In the meantime, we have gathered, for your viewing pleasure, a carefully-curated selection of content in tribute to the top five contenders from the #bird of the century election. Every last one a winner.
Live, love, laugh. Grunt, dance, puke x

I have been posting too many cute pictures this week I need everyone to understand that I live on an acreage and you can still hear her from my neighbors house. I do not understand how people with cockatoos do it.

bird emoji review
Apple: 2/10. why is he just a head? come ON Apple I know you can do better. Give the pidge a body, you cowards. Make him ROUND
Google: 10/10!!! this is everything I want in a small bird! I love him so much, I want to hold him in my hand
Samsung: 6/10. he kind of looks like he's made of plastic but this is a respectable little bird. a good friend
Microsoft: 7/10. this bird is weird, but I like him. making him a cardinal was a bold move and it paid off.
WhatsApp: 1/10. this is just Apple's bird but worse. stop decapitating your birds
Twitter: 7/10. his head is a bit large, but that's okay. he's creative! i like his energy
Facebook: 9/10! colors could be more vibrant, but this is a beautiful little Eastern Bluebird and I love him!
Microsoft Teams: 3/10. this is just the standard Microsoft bird, but less charming with weird gradients and unecessary animations. his eyes look dead
Skype: 3/10. for some reason I don't love this little guy. why are his eyes so wide. who hurt him
Toss Face: 8/10. yeah, he's just a blob. but some birds are just round blobs. it's true to reality and I appreciate that
OpenMoji: 3/10. i mean, it is, recognizably, a bird. but it looks like the logo for some trendy restaurant. it's a bird but not a Birb
Emojidex: 6/10. a little too highly detailed for an emoji. but I will always stan a cute cockatiel
Messenger: 5/10. why does he look so frazzled. who hurt this little friend
LG: 4/10. plastic. where's his personality?
HTC: 1/10!!!! why's it got LIPS? this "bird" needs to stop. this is not a bird. this is a clown with bird face paint. get your shit together, HTC
SoftBank: 7/10. a small dove!! a peaceful friend! not a fan of the black outline but I'll forgive it because this bird looks very polite
Docomo: 3/10. uninspiring. but it's still not as creepy as HTC's, so it wins out in my book
Mozilla: 1/10. a.) you copied Apple, you cowards, and b.) STOP. DECAPITATING. THE BIRDS
