An old, torn, crumpled up piece of paper. It's covered in dirt, or maybe that's soot. Did someone try to burn this? The handwriting is sloppy, but the words tell a story. Perhaps a diary entry. It's hard to read, but it's heartbreaking, desperate. This is something someone had to tell, to get it out of their system. It looks as if they tried to destroy it when they were done but swiftly changed their mind. Maybe, in the end, they hoped someone would find it, someone would know their story, maybe even find comfort in it that they're not alone if they've been forced to endure the same pain.

Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day. Happy Hump Day!

Today, I am 63 and two weeks! Nope, I don’t feel any different. In fact, not only is my body feeling healthy but my brain feels super-sharp. People describe ‘long covid’ as being a ‘brain fog’. I feel the opposite. In the immortal words of Johnny Nash, I can see clearly now. Pretty much everything is coming into focus.

Hope you enjoyed Too Much Information Tuesday. I have always been a trivia buff, although my trivia is not trivial (I’ll have you know!) I love facts. And figures! (You know I love figures!) In a world full of liars, I love truth and real, bona fide facts. In fact, newspapers are comics these days. Have you ever read so much nonsense in your whole life? And we pay the salaries of these liars!

Tik Tok and Instagram both have reels. These things are seriously distracting me! A trip to the toilet now takes 15 minutes (or until I lose all feeling in my legs!) I click on Tik Tok or Instagram and I snack on these delicious tiny morsels of entertainment. Swipe, swipe, bloody swipe! Before I know it, my family have lost me and sent out a search party. However, these bloody reels do serve a good purpose; they introduce me to new music (or rather music I’ve never heard before!) At this precise moment, my head is full of this track from 2013 called ‘Big’ by Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International Ministry Of Worship featuring Fred Graves and Vaughan Phoenix. (Yes, really!) Why does an atheist love gospel so much? I don’t even believe in God but I’ve spent the last week singing this damn song (over and over again!)

It all started with Tramaine Hawkins, Fred Hammond and Vanessa Bell Armstrong, then I graduated to The Clark Sisters, The Winans and Take 6. Why does gospel move this non-believer so profoundly? I guess it’s because I love people that are full of passion. Cold fish depress me.

When I was a kid, some kid punched me in the eye, for no reason at all (or so I thought!) My father found the kid’s address and immediately went to his house. His father answered the door. My father asked the son, “Why did you punch my son?” This miserable, snarly swine said, “He’s just so happy!” 50 years later, nothing has changed. People still despise me because I’m so happy. The thing is: you will never steal or suppress my joy. I’m alive and I’m breathing, so I’m happy. The Trouble is a beautiful person. She truly believes there is good in everyone. I do not share this view. Within some people, there is no good.

Like every day, today will be a good day. ‘Nature Boy’ could have been written for me. I love the light, I love the dark, I love warm weather, I love cold weather, I love every aspect of every season. I love to leave the house so I can return to the house. I am happy to be going somewhere and equally happy to be going nowhere. I have so much to be thankful for, how can I not be happy?

TIFF 2022: Day 2

Films: 4 Best Film Of The Day: Bros

Louis Armstrong’s Black & Blues: Satchmo gets his due in Sacha Jenkins’ reverent doc, as one of most highly celebrated horn players and Jazz ambassadors in the history of popular music. Beginning in the mid-’20s, as an impossibly talented protege of then-legend King Oliver, Armstrong took the world by storm, especially when he came into his own band, where he could be the undisputed ringleader and lead trumpet. His style, an impossibly high-energy blend of improvisation and a steady stream of high-C notes (difficult for even a seasoned pro to attain), along with his gravel-voiced diction (“foist” for “first”) and penchant for smiling showmanship, created a perfect entertainment vehicle for pre-civil rights white America. The film doesn’t shy away from the accusation that Satchmo, for all his prodigious gifts and charms, played nice with the Whites, and profited handsomely for it, while not being public about his political views, or overtly supportive of the burgeoning movement spurred on by MLK, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, and many others. For his part, Armstrong  —  who was obsessive about recording his thoughts in his various writings and autobiography, and in the hundreds of taped conversations he made with various friends and illuminaries  — speaks to this interpretation of his dealings with white people in pretty measured tones. He believed his music created a bridge that everyone could walk on  —  the film makes much of his frequent duets with the trombone player Jack Teagarden, the pair’s genuine bonhomie showing the world how it could be done. He also claims to have given generously to the cause (a point the film doesn’t confirm or deny), but it’s also true that he came up from an entirely different era. It’s not as though he didn’t suffer under the harsh racial conditions of the time  —  he grew up dirt-poor in New Orleans, and was very often unable to stay in the same fancy hotels that welcomed him to their performance stage  — but he had orchestrated a way to survive and thrive in the world amongst the Whites in the ‘40s and ‘50s, and saw his audience, demonstrably white, in glowing terms, no matter the strife around him. Whether or not that makes him a positive-minded realist, or a capitalist-minded opportunist, the film doesn’t entirely conclude one way or the other. It’s not an in-depth profile of his politics, as it is a celebration of the thing that mattered most to him (only two of his four wives get much mention at all, though the film does include many bits and pieces with Lucille, his fourth  —  and last  —  wife, who was with him for nearly three decades until his death in 1971), his music. Nearly every shot of him, on-stage or off, has him with horn in hand (along with his ubiquitous white handkerchief), either in the midst of playing one of his unique, up-tempo solos, or about to put his beloved horn to his lips. I would have preferred more mention of some of his frequent collaborators (Ella Fitzgerald, for example, barely appears), but as a summary of the man and his wondrous career, it’s pretty essential viewing. 

Roost: Based on a play by Scott Organ, Amy Redford’s film takes the idea of the male sexual predator, and turns it neatly on its head. Anna (Grace Van Dien) is a bubbly high school girl just about to turn 17, when she casually mentions to her mother, Beth (Summer Phoenix), that she’s met a guy she really likes online (her mom’s response: “Those are literally famous last words”). The guy turns out to be Eric (Kyle Gallner), a 28-year-old with a shared love of poetry with Anna, who drives 900 miles on a whim in order to meet her in person. None of this sounds the least bit good, but when Anna finally gets around to introducing her guy to her mom and her mom’s fiance (Jesse Garcia), things take an even stranger series of turns, until it becomes clear there’s much more happening here than anyone, including the audience, might imagine. There are some interesting angles at play here, and strong (if uneven) performances from Van Dien and Phoenix, but too much of the story’s dramatic build up requires a series of actions and responses that really don’t make any sense from an EQ perspective for it to hold together as tightly as it needs to, in order to be effective. Shot in what appears to be Colorado, with the glorious mountains peeking out in the background, and with strong camera work by DP Bobby Bukowski, it feels suitably lived-in, but it still can’t quite get to life-like. 

Domingo: Moody atmospherics from Costa Rican filmmaker Ariel Escalante Meza, whose film trades both in gritty textures, and wispy metaphysics. Domingo (Carlos Ureña), a widow for two decades, lives in a simple house up in the mountains, near his daughter (Sylvia Sossa), and a couple of friends, with whom he splits a large bottle of moonshine each night. They have reason to drink: The town is in the throes of being bought out by a greedy developer, intent on making a killing when the land is sold to the state for a new highway, and isn’t opposed to actual killing in order to make that happen, threatening the otherwise peaceful inhabitants with a group of thugs buzzing around on their motorcycles and shooting indiscriminately into houses by way of intimidation. Domingo, who speaks with his dead wife via the various clouds of mist that rise up over the mountains and into his ramshackle house, doesn’t want to leave for fear his wife’s ghost won’t be able to find him if he moves away. With nowhere else to go, and refusing to be bullied out of his home, he has no choice but to put up a fight, whatever the cost. Meza’s film skillfully juxtaposes the simple tranquility of the mountains, and their steep, verdant calm, against the imposition of machinery, and guns, and the heavy construction of the highway being built below the town. With a mise-en-scene that feels thoroughly natural (Domingo wears the same rubber boots and natty sweater in almost every scene), the hostility these simple people face with the advancement of modernity, and its enjoining capitalist opportunities, feels like an even greater assault than the bullets that are fired in response. 

Bros: Well, why can’t gay people have their own major studio, wide-release raunchy rom-com? Billy Eichner’s screenplay (co-written by director Nicholas Stoller) follows many of the standard sorts of hurdles  —  two busy NYC men who pride themselves on not getting emotionally involved with their partners find each other, lose each other, and find each other again  — and several of the seemingly indelible tropes of the genre (Bouncy best friends! A trip away together! An issue of honesty!). But it also has many clever satiric touches (a Hallmark stand-in called “HallHeart” that tries to get hip with seasonal titles such as “Christmas With Either,” and “A Holly Polly Christmas”), and enough of Eichner’s clever pop-culture gags (“We had AIDS,” his character, an outspoken podcast host says of the current generation, “they had “Glee”!), to keep the engine humming, even as the film very nearly pauses at various times in order for Eichner to deliver various preachy polemics about the mostly ignored history of gay people (his character is head of an upcoming LGBTQ+ museum being built in Manhattan). There are enough of these moments  —  Eichner practically takes off his glasses and says “But if I could be serious for a moment..” before launching into a diatribe  — that the film has a kind of stuttering energy to it, a start/stop dynamic that draws attention to itself. On the other hand, you can sort of tell what Eichner might be thinking, here: How many more chances will he, or other LGBTQ+ filmmakers, get making a major studio release starring a fully queer cast? Given the dearth of such material writ large on the masses to this point, you can’t blame him for wanting to go out with his boots on, so to speak, blasting his six-shooters in all directions until he’s run out of ammo. Much of the film works because of the exceptional chemistry between Eichner (who tones down his usual “Billy on the Street” persona in service to a slightly more well-rounded character) and co-lead Luke Macfarlane, who gets the more thankless role as the hunky comic foil (the “straight” man, if you will) to Eichner’s neurotically charged dynamo, and more than holds his own. The film also doesn’t hold back on its ‘R’ rating, including several scenes of passionate (though non-graphic) lovemaking, a boisterous affirmation of queer sexuality.  If there seem to be a few too many moments designed to pump up Eichner’s ego (at various times, characters tell him how attractive he truly is), then so be it. It’s not a crime to have a film celebrate a character’s self-worth, even if it feels a bit self-serving in the process, for a group so universally marginalized, the film’s wide release (at the premiere, Eichner told the enraptured crowd it will be on 3000 screens when it comes out at the end of September of 2022) will doubtlessly not include the many countries that won’t even recognize the LGBTQ+ community actually exists. 

TIFF: One Last Time, wherein the author contemplates this year’s offerings and the past decade of covering this fabulous film festival, as he’s poised to embark on a new career path that will more than likely involve him standing up in front of a group of sullen teens, espousing the glories of the Russian masters, rather than taking in a beatific week of international cinema in the early days of September.

Please, AA, never bring Filch in my presence EVER again.

She was once my least favorite video game character of all time, but then Doki Doki Literature Club happened.  Also, a couple of the Mods finally got me curious enough to watch a playthrough of Danganronpa, so she might be getting bumped down my “least favorite” ranking again very soon.

Mod Edgeworth: I wouldn’t say, but I haven’t been here long enough to know, so that may change. However, I have noticed people’s perspective of Manfred Von Karma changing. I’m beginning to see more and more fans coming out of the woodworks that agree about the hatred for Manfred Von Karma being overblown.

Co-Mod: I’ll start by saying that I didn’t see von Karma as much more than a heartless villain before Mod Edgeworth showed up.  I somehow forgot that he’s a human being who wasn’t always the selfish brute we seem him as in the games, so thanks for that, M.E.!

I’ve also been able to see a lot of the characters as being more human than I did when I first saw them in the games (not that they weren’t full of humanity there, too, of course).  Seeing Apollo gripe about his insane workload, Trucy having thoughts that contradict her words, and, more recently, Athena wondering what to call her estranged father has made them feel more like people going through people stuff than simple cartoon characters.  I hope that’s been the case for you, as well.  Besides being sources of entertainment, the members of the Ace Attorney cast are like friends to us (the good guys, at least).

·         All Time Low dropped their first new song in over a year, titled “Some Kind of Disaster”. The music video takes place at an emotional group therapy session, in which we are able to observe all the different struggles people go through.

·         Over the weekend, Billie Eilish performed at the 2020 iHeartRadio ALTer EGO Festival, where she revealed when we can expect the release of her sophomore album. “This year? No, but I will be making it this year,” she said.

·         Producer Tommie Sunshine and dance artist Disco Fries turned the track “Falling in Love Will Kill You” into an electronic club remix. In 2014, My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way collabed with Wrongchilde (Mat Devine, formerly of Kill Hannah) for the song.

·         Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams released her solo debut after many weeks of waiting with a song titled “Simmer.” She then took to social media to share an extended cut of the video, titled “Simmer Interlude.”

TOUR ANNOUNCEMENTS:

·         YUNGBLUD announced The Underrated Youth North American Spring Tour, starting off with his two Coachella performances on April 12 and 19. From there, he will play a total of 16 shows before wrapping up the tour at the Hangout Music Festival in Alabama in mid-May.

·         This year, The Maine surprised fans at 8123 Day with a free meet and greet at their store in Phoenix, along with a “Make America Emo Again” after-party. They also revealed an online scavenger hunt, through which they released several pieces of content.

·         The Academy Is… took to Facebook to share a celebration of 15 years of the band’s debut album, Almost Here. The event will take place at an EmoVsPopPunk night next month in Chicago.

·         My Chemical Romance announced four more shows, all of which will take place in Europe. Lucky fans will be able to see the band live in Italy, Russia, Ireland and Germany, as well as two more shows added in England.

·         Third Eye Blind and YUNGBLUD had a special performance of the former band’s song, “Graduate,” in Los Angeles during their set at the Roxy. The performance preceded the Grammys ceremony this past weekend.

·         PUP guitarist Steve Sladkowski will be honored in his home country of Canada with the honor of receiving the “Maple Leaf Forever” guitar next year. The guitar is made from a silver maple tree that inspired legendary musician Alexander Muir’s famous 1867 song.

·         Former Set It Off guitarist Dan Clermont revealed he is no longer using his Instagram account to promote music, but instead will be focusing on producing. He also revealed he would be changing his username for “starting fresh.”

·         Basketball legend Kobe Bryant, age 41, passed away on Sunday following a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter Gianna Maria Onore and Orange Coast College basketball coach John Altobelli were also tragically killed in the crash.

·         The 62nd Grammy Awards were held on Sunday at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, with all Rock/Alternative categories announced prior to the televised program. Winners included Tool, Gary Clark Jr., Cage the Elephant, Vampire Weekend and Soundgarden.

·         Delivering an emotional performance of her hit song “When the Party’s Over,” Billie Eilish accepted her first ever Grammy Awards. Eilish had six total nominations, breaking a record as the youngest artist to be nominated and win the four major categories.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Part 4 - Trials and Tribulations (3rd game)

Turnabout Memories Omggg! I can’t believe we get to see Phoenix and Mia’s first meeting! I’ve always liked Mia so this is great! It’s so cute to see a younger Phoenix that is so cute and careless haha. Didn’t expect him to be the defendant for Mia’s second case ever though, but I guess it is a Phoenix Wright game, they gotta put him in the spotlight somehow, so if he’s not the defence, he’ll have to be a suspect hahaha. It’s so adorable when Phoenix cries lmao, but wow Dahlia is so cute and pretty, she’s an angel! Those butterflies hovering around her though lmao. The bottle necklace was really cool.

Wow, I really liked how this case turned out, it definitely feels more in line with the cases in the first game that I liked the most, mainly because it’s simple, it’s straightforward and it rounds up all the evidence and people mentioned nicely. I didn’t expect Phoenix to be so smitten with Dahlia though lol, but yeah, she’s really evil, not that we get to know what her motives for killing that attorney were, but dang was she evil to give the bottle that hid the poison to Phoenix so the police wouldn’t find it. I find it kinda funny that it ended up backfiring on her because Phoenix refused to return it to her later on so she had to keep dating him to try and get it back loll. Gotta feel sorry for the ex though, he noticed that she was dodgy and had stolen poison from his labs and was nice enough to warn Phoenix, but that instead led to his death, sigh, so terrible. Considering Dahlia’s last words, I guess we’ll be seeing her again… But yeah, I really liked this case especially with Mia being the lawyer, you can see how great she was even when she was a newbie. Lmao at Mr Payne losing his hair and screaming when he lost loll. Gotta love all the exaggeration, it really makes the game haha.

The Stolen Turnabout It’s nice to see Andrews living a better life now than when she was a manager. Lmaoo that no one noticed the urn being weird with the name spelt wrong since Pearl glued it back in the wrong places. Shocking that the village is famous enough that their “treasures” are being exhibited though lol. Otherwise, Atmey the ace detective doesn’t seem very interesting of a guy lol. I have to say, I miss Larry and his ability to complicate everything so it’s nice to see him again! Can’t believe he and Phoenix didn’t talk to each other for two years though! But, I guess considering the type of happy go lucky guy he is, Larry following a woman to Japan and then getting dumped is believable loll. I wonder if he makes all the girls he dates famous or something loll. Anyway, I don’t know why, but I feel like Atmey looks like and feels like Mask DeMasque. Okay, I love Godot’s look, he looks cool!! HAHAHA, I love him already, he’s never won or lost a case before because he’s a beginner hahahaha. He’s such an eccentric but it’s so cute, it was so funny and slack when he wanted to call his next witness, but Gumshoe said he hadn’t proven anything yet, and Godot says he already proved his incompetence LOL. And I love how Godot said the safest place to keep evidence is by him pocketing them hahahah. Gotta love everyone’s confidence here, Atmey especially, he didn’t even get to see the culprit’s face and was knocked out by him but he’s still so full of himself lolll. Gotta love how lenient the judge is with all the dodgy people, but I guess that’s expected since he’s not the best himself hahaha. LMAO when Godot said objection and threw his coffee at Phoenix (Godot Blend #102 hahaha) and you see the cup on his head whilst it’s dripping coffee hahahaha.

Anyway, what is wrong with Ron? Why is he so insistent on being Mask DeMasque and being pronounced guilty? Ohh wow, didn’t expect the CEO that was apparently blackmailing Ron to die, and to think that Phoenix proving him to be at the CEO office at the time of the theft saved him from the current case but now has caused him to be arrested for murdering the CEO. Aside from that, I love how when Godot is losing to Phoenix, steam comes out of his head or he just says random things about coffee to express his feelings lmao. Hahaahha Wendy Oldbag is Larry’s superior and partner in KB Security? Loll, they both sound so dodgy, I’m worried for this building. I wonder if Mask DeMasque is like two people or something lol. Hmm so Ron was the thief but someone gave him the plans and what to steal~ HAHAHA, lmao when Godot said “you did it, didn’t you?” to Ron when he was about to start testifying and Ron with a serious face says “yes” and then realises what he just said yes to and starts saying noooo LOL. Like the judge said, it really could have been the shortest trial ever hahahaha. Gotta love Gadot’s variety of reactions, it was so hilarious whenever he spat his coffee out at Phoenix uncovering things that were unexpected to him hahaha. Anyway, I really liked how things went on in this part of the trial! Even though it was obvious Detective Atmey was the culprit, it was interesting to see how he made everyone fall into the trap of thinking he was actually Mask DeMasque in order to get himself a guilty verdict of larceny as his alibi to protect him from actually being accused of murdering the CEO. That felt really clever and interesting imo. Well, glad to know Desiree really loves Ron as much as he loves her, so it’s a nice ending for them haha.

Overall, although Atmey was a boring culprit when considering his motives etc, I found the flow of the case really fun and interesting. The case started off pretty funny and amusing by introducing the broken urn from the previous game again and making it seem like a theft case, when really it interrelated with the idea of someone trying to use the double jeopardy rule (can’t be tried for the same charges twice when some sort of verdict has been made already) to get themselves out of the more serious crime. I liked the idea and the execution of it quite a bit and enjoyed how everything turned out~

Recipe for Turnabout A fake Nick?! Isn’t it a bit crazy that no one in court or anything knew it was a fake though?? Not sure if I like the sound of this case already… The fake also kinda tarnished his reputation for losing and getting a guilty verdict too! Well, I didn’t expect to see Maggey again, bad luck follows her everywhere, huh? Even when she’s been fired as a police officer and is now a waitress… Yahh, Armstrong is certainly an eccentric character… Well, uh, aside from the disgusting food, overly pungent flower smell in the restaurant and those weird dodgy aromatherapy oils he’s giving out, is there anything good about this guy or restaurant?! Omgg lace curtains in a kitchen, I am dreading the possibility of a fire already… Lmao when Maya in that maid/waitress outfit couldn’t entice Victor to talk and so she had to turn into Mia lolll.

Honestly though, Godot makes me want to drink coffee allll the time hahaha. Lmaooo at Gumshoe trying so hard to get Phoenix to doubt his testimony and evidence so that Maggey can be freed hahahah. Awww so cute how Gumshoe made a lunchbox for Maggey since she seemed to have lost weight from the stress of the case! Lmao that it’s just a bunch of weenies/sausages with rice though hahahah. I’m surprised no one cares or thinks the chef is suspicious especially since Maggey fainted when the guy got poisoned, like ummm okay?? I’d say that the idea of the Victor seeing a fake crime scene with a fake victim was interesting, but at the same time, it felt really implausible? Especially with how easily it was renounced by Phoenix because of the radio lottery announcement that occurs at 1:30pm every time? Lmao at everyone (even the judge hahaha) getting scared of Tigre’s dominating presence and shouting so they hide under the table lolll. Gotta love how calm Godot remains.

And yeah…the way they tricked him into telling the whole court what the bottle of potassium cyanide actually looked like etc was just..so, how do I say it? Unsatisfying??? Well, technically I felt like the whole story of this case and how it happened and why it happened was pretty bland already, but even the way they got him was just so uncharacteristically satisfying. I feel like what I enjoy most about the game is when they give you the evidence and the testimonies and that leads you to solving the case with clear cut evidence etc to show that “this person” did it. It just feels rather cheap when they deviate from that since it doesn’t feel like the reader themselves really did their part to show why this person is guilty, instead you’re reliant on Phoenix doing something random and dodgy to succeed. On another note, I found Maggey blaming Gumshoe and hating on him really annoying especially when she was a policewoman before and so she should understand that he had to give the facts, like seriously, you can’t blame him for telling the truth, especially when he ran around everywhere trying to help find evidence to prove her innocence. Not only was she not grateful for any of it, she KEEPS blaming him even after the trial ends! Like girl, he has no obligation (other than his job) to help her to such an extent that he’s even making lunchboxes etc for her, I was so annoyed with her, and do not want to see her again honestly, but I doubt it’s the last time we see her zzz. Considering how annoying she was about it all, I’m surprised she still ate the lunchbox in the end, Gumshoe is wasted on her. But yeah, basically, not a fan of this case in terms of story or the characters/witnesses. Victor was okay because he was a silly guy, but Tigre was so boring, even more boring than I initially thought.

Turnabout Beginnings I’m glad we get to see Mia’s first case! I was scared they might put it in the next game or something haha. Is Diego (another attorney in the same law firm as Mia) Godot’s father or something? Or is it actually Godot himself? Or am I just thinking too much haha. Omgggg I can’t believe Edgeworth is the prosecutor!! Young him is so cute though lol. Nah, Diego has the statement coffee cup, he’s gotta be related to Godot, it must run in the family!! Loll. Awww Gumshoe and Edgeworth go way back! So, is Melissa Dahlia? Did she change her name?? Honestly though, I’m not really interested in the case haha, doesn’t help how biased the judge is and how tricky Edgeworth is lol. Okay, that was unexpected, Valerie, Fawles and Dahlia were in on this “kidnapping” to get some cash out of it, but Valerie betrayed them and caused her sister, the little girl “Dahlia” to fall to her death on the bridge? Ohh okay, that turned out more interesting than I thought. I can see why Mia was quite traumatised with her first case, she was so close to revealing Dahlia to be the one that jumped off the bridge herself to keep that 2 million diamond for herself, and how she killed her sister and pinned it on Terry to stop the truth from getting out, and yet…Terry was so obsessed and taken with Dahlia that he chose to commit suicide instead, and it was by drinking poison from that bottle Phoenix had in the beginning of the first case in this game… That was honestly pretty saddening.

Bridge to the Turnabout Okay, initially, I was sceptical about this with the Iris seeming to be Dahlia thing and the temple stuff etc, but now that Phoenix is hurt and Larry wants Edgeworth to defend Iris, this seems like it’ll be a fun case! Like, sure, the court was dodgy enough to accept a paper attorney badge last time and not even recognise Phoenix’s imposter, but everyone knows Edgeworth is a prosecutor! How are they going to get around that? Loll. Swapping the judge out is a good idea to get around it, but I like the judge!! Well, the judges are brothers so I guess that’s cool hahaha. But yeah, I love the usual judge, he’s so silly, it’s hilarious! Anyway, lmao that the “blackmail letter” to Iris was actually Larry’s love letter hahahaha, he ended up scaring her away instead lollll.

Omggg Franziska vs Edgeworth?? I prefer Godot but I guess this match will be interesting. Hahahaha at the judge thinking Edgeworth looks familiar (since he’s the same judge that was in the Mia vs Edgeworth case back in the day) and Franziska insisting there’s no such weakling in the prosecutor’s office lolll. And then I love how the judge tries to get rid of Franziska’s whip but Edgeworth says she should be allowed to keep it since he doesn’t care lolll, what about the judge’s wishes?! Lmaoo at Sister Bikini (what a name btw LOL) being so short (because of her bad back) at the witness podium, you just see her eyes blinking hahahaha, and then they had to get milk crates for her ahahaha. Awwww Edgeworth is so cute to say he now understands why Phoenix feels so happy when he exposes contradictions in testimonies hahaha. Larry is hilarious, I can’t believe he was literally sketching for 15 minutes when the bridge was burning down instead of getting help LOL. It’s normal for Edgeworth and Franziska to insult Larry’s intelligence but lmao at even the judge saying he was surprised Larry actually witnessed an actual event loll. Gotta love how Larry makes every case he’s in more complicated haha.

Hmmm is Godot the guy that was poisoned by Dahlia?🧐 Is Elise Maya’s mother? She is!! Iris is Pearls’ sister??? Do they even know about each other?? Oh wait, now Iris is a twin?? Well, I was thinking that was the only logical explanation to the people sighting her everywhere and the extra psyche locks on the Sacred Cavern (where Maya is trapped) but I’m still surprised that they’re all actually Morgan’s (Misty’s sister, so Maya and Mia’s aunt) daughters! Ummm, if Iris’ father is a jeweller and he left Kurain village with the twin daughters after knowing that Morgan could never be the master, and if he gave Iris up to the temple and kept the other daughter… Does that mean Dahlia is the other sister and that’s why she really wanted that jewel in that case? Oh wow, Iris was a part of the fake kidnapping as well but somehow betrayed Dahlia causing her “killing spree”. Hmm if they stole the jewel as “revenge” on their father for how he treated Morgan (dumping her since she was useless to him), what was their plan exactly?

Hahaha gotta love that the trial has barely started and it’s already killing Phoenix since Iris just confessed she’s actually an accomplice to the murder! Well, the pendulum swinging the body back was pretty much what I expected even though it still kinda sounds rather far fetched… And I was wondering why Iris was weird, she’s actually Dahlia! I’m kinda confused at the idea of them being able to materialise Dahlia without actually having her body like possess someone? Since it’s implied initially that Misty was the one channeling her, but now that she’s dead, she’s still materialised?? I’ve been thinking about this for a while, but wouldn’t it be most likely that the one channeling Dahlia is actually Maya? And yep it was! I was thinking it was impossible for Pearl to have been the one channeling her since she already since she didn’t and couldn’t do it, so I was so confused haha. It’s good that Maya was smart enough to consult Mia and that’s how they were able to plan and get Maya to protect herself from Dahlia by being the one channeling her so that she wouldn’t be able to know that the one she actually needed to hurt was herself. That thing Dahlia kinda became when she was disappeared was pretty menacing, I feel like she would be back in a future game just because of how vengeful she is tbh.

Omg, the defence attorney Dahlia poisoned was Armando, the guy who was helping Mia out in that trial with Dahlia. Both Mia and him were still suspicious of Dahlia after that case so she killed him…. I knew it was coming, but to think that Diego Armando is really Godot… Like, don’t get me wrong, I love Godot’s looks, but I’m sure having to wear that visor to see things etc already kinda depicts how terrible his life must had become after the incident with Dahlia. Oh wow, Godot was in a coma for 5 years due to the poison… I never expected Godot to have loved Mia so much that he hated Phoenix for not being able to protect her whilst he was asleep. And I didn’t expect him to care so much that he made protecting Maya one of his reasons for living, since he knew that she was the most important person to Mia. It’s so tragic yet sweet… I didn’t think Misty, Iris and Godot all cooperated trying to foil Morgan’s plan though… Honestly, it broke my heart to see Godot trying to guide Phoenix to the end of the trial by himself instead of always relying on Mia. It’s true that he hated Phoenix for not protecting Mia, but Godot also hated himself for missing out on everything that happened as well, he felt like he failed as well. So having to see Phoenix point out that Godot was the murderer was so tough and terrible to witness, mainly because they all did what they did to protect Maya. Misty channeled Dahlia’s soul to prevent Pearl from doing it, but that meant it was up to Godot to stop her, and there was no other way to stop her than for Godot to have stabbed her at that moment. Although Godot doubts whether he did it for Maya or for himself (for revenge on Dahlia poisoning him), I think there’s no need to even think about it, even though he had his own sort of pride (for not telling Phoenix about the plan), in his own way, he did what he could to protect what was precious to Mia. And that honestly breaks my heart.

The other most surprising thing to come out of this was that in reality, Dahlia and Phoenix only met each other twice (when she used him to hide the poison and when she tried to poison him in the end), all the other times they met and dated and had a relationship, it was actually Iris trying her best to get the bottle back from him so that Dahlia wouldn’t kill him. Although, she obviously failed and that caused Dahlia to hatch her plan and not tell Iris about it because she knew Iris had fallen in love with Phoenix. Honestly though, I really wanted Phoenix and Iris to get together this whole time, so knowing that they used to be together was really nice. If only it was possible in the future too… I thought it was really cool and bittersweet how Phoenix and Godot shared a cup of coffee with each other at the end of the trial. I guess in a sense, he’s finally free since the case is resolved, but at the same time I can’t help but feel so sad about it all. Maya and Pearl are really strong for being able to keep up their smiles.

Honestly, I found the last case to be rather convoluted and boring because of the fact that I’ve never really been a fan of the supernatural element of the game with the Kurain channelling technique. The only times I liked them using it was to bring back Mia, but not really in an actual case, so that detracted points for me, and I guess also because Dahlia wasn’t a very interesting villain either. Dahlia is just like this ball of pure hatred for everything and everyone for betraying her and treating her like crap, and although it’s understandable, aside from her looks, there was nothing I liked about her lol. However, the last case definitely hit me in the feels the best out of all the cases in this trilogy, I legit wanted to cry because of Godot’s/Armando’s story and motivations, he was really relatable and I couldn’t help but really empathise with his hatred, his sadness and his forced acceptance of reality in the present. It was painful to witness because of how much it broke my heart. He is definitely my favourite character for this whole franchise. Larry and Mia being close seconds haha.

Overall, although I found the Maggey case and the Godot one lacking in terms of the case itself, most of this third game was great! I enjoyed most of it and really felt like it had the gist of what I loved in the first game so it was great to play through it! The psyche locks are still something I don’t like, but oh well. Honestly, I really wanted to play as Edgeworth a bit more but I guess I can play that other game with him as the MC? It’s on Android so I guess I can play it on that haha. I think my favourite part was being able to play as Mia, I really enjoyed getting to see more of her personality and how she worked her way through her cases and how much of an impact that first case had on her. She should get spin offs too! Tbh, my favourite case was hers with Edgeworth because just as it had an impact on them with the suicide at the end, I also found it very interesting and engaging with how the case flowed and how it ended up all going downhill at the last moment. I feel like it was a really refreshing take amongst the usual cases. All in all, I would definitely recommend the trilogy because it really is so much fun! I’m so sad that it’s over tbh, I hope they port the other games, I want to see more!! A lot of the things are silly especially with introducing evidence out of nowhere and all that, but it just makes the whole story so much more entertaining, so I think if you’re not crazy strict about how courts should be like and just want some law drama fun, this is probably the epitome of it, because I have to admit, it’s so satisfying to hear Phoenix and them shout “objection!” all the time haha. The dialogue is so witty, cool and fun that it really makes the game such a highlight with how the prosecutor and defence attorney interact, and you just gotta love the silly judge adding his random comments hahaha. I miss it already😭

I understand the anger and it could not have come at a worse time and he did it to himself. BUT..  We are adults and we have to be able to talk about things as they really are, not in sound bites. Castro sucked and history teaches us that bad people do good things occasionally and good people do bad things once in a while. ** It seems that everyone was in agreement that we would all gather behind the winner of the democratic campaign to beat Trump. Suddenly when it could be Bernie, everybody is bitching.

This month held 2 more Democratic debates. The Nevada debate got pretty heated. I see that Mayor Pete and Bloomberg are lefties (left handed that is). Pete always looked poised and articulate which I appreciate and he got in a good one when he mentioned that the party should choose someone who is actually a democrat.  Bernie seemed a little rattled by that. Later Pete really dressed down Amy Klobuchar and made himself look like a dick. Joe Biden jumped in with his credits occasionally but often seemed a bit lost. He slammed back that they were all talking about the health care plane he helped to create and that he himself had dealt with the Mexican President. His name came up after it was mentioned that Amy could not remember the President’s name. The gloves were off with Bloomberg as Elizabeth Warren called him out on Billionaires and NDA’s. I loved the interaction but realistically Mr. Mike can’t just release people from agreements they made in an NDA, especially if it did not involve him. Bloomberg sounded pompous and clueless about the world outside of his company. He got a moan when he said he couldn’t exactly use turbo tax and when he said he may have told a few jokes that women didn’t like. He brushed off his taxes much like Trump does. The former mayor of NY called out socialists as communists. Klobuchar had the best comeback of the night when she was told her health care plan could fit on a post it. She proclaimed that the post it was invented in her state of Minnesota. Again, there were people shouting from the audience as Joe tried to talk. C’mon give everybody an equal chance.

The South Carolina debate was fiery as well. The CBS debate was hosted by Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell. Bloomberg was booed right off the bat about Russia helping Bernie but he late had many cheers. He and Biden and Steyer had some real support there. Tom Steyer was actually quite impressive and seemed well spoken.  He was the only one who brought up the impeachment. He had a great point that we all know that republicans who did not convict Trump are complicit in the Russian meddling. Then he ruined it all by being alarmist with his fear. He warned us off the former republican and the socialists. I loved Bernie’s ideas about small business’s getting in on the marijuana business and not letting big corporations taking it over. He is also the only one in debates that I have seen consistently bring up Native Americans.  Biden again kept jumping in to tell us that he did this or that. Amy disagreed about a bill he claimed to have written. Warren said “dig in” numerous times. She went for the jugular with Bloomberg when she said a former female employee of his said to “kill it” in response to her pregnancy. He denied it but it sure is memorable. She did make great points that he has given much money to Linsey Graham’s campaign as well as other republican runs including against her. BTW he also gave 2.3 mil to Rick Snyder, the Gov of Michigan after the water crisis was well known.  I love that Amy is always saying that we shouldn’t fight amongst ourselves but she just does not have the votes so she needs to go. Bernie got some boos about guns for he seems the softest in that area.

The final Criminal Minds has aired. CBS often aired double episodes which made it seem like they really wanted to get rid of it. Kirsten Vangsness and Erica Messer wrote the final episode which seemed to give special attention to Penelope and Reid as they were the originals. The other characters seemed a little overlooked but they all had happy endings. You watched the busy city zoom past you; the windows rolled down, and your hair flying with the wind. You rested your arm against the windowpane, your chin pressed against it as you looked up in wanderlust.

You had felt free, but your heart continued to run back and flee in fear.

Your breathing turned to panting, and your chest had felt heavy the more the buildings seemed to have reduced in numbers. A hand pressed up against your thigh, squeezing it with reassurance, you turn your head and instantly your lips curl up into a smile.

Jaehyun took a quick glance towards you, and returned the same smile, his eyes seeming to hide into crescents as those two dimples that’d set your troubled mind at ease popped right out on cue.

Your hand had fallen right on top of his, and before you had the chance to turn your head to face back towards the window, Jaehyun took a deep breath. “Just remember, I’m here.” His words filled with care, but the uneasy feeling of concern that mixed in his honey voice set your heart to race.

“We’re just going to go to get the rest of your things, and then we’ll be out in no time.” Jaehyun had reassured, but you continued to deny that it would really be that easy.

“I know.” You lied through your teeth, but Jaehyun was quick to see right through them.

The familiar neighborhood had come into sight, and before your house was even near in sight, Jaehyun had suddenly pulled over. He lowered the volume of the radio, its soft gentle beats now hushed down to a whisper.

He leaned an arm against the wheel, looking over at you with curled lips. “Alright, what seems to be the problem? Is it because you haven’t seen your dad in a while?” Jaehyun arched a brow, staring right at you, but you did your best to look at anything else but his burning glance.

The car remained in silence, and when the tension had began to suffocate the two of you, you groaned. “It’s not just that! It’s complicated Jaehyun.” You explained, flailing your arms in front of you, you scooted to the edge of your seat.

“I know it’s difficult Y/N, it’s your dad for crying out loud, but what if he’s not home?” Jaehyun asked, a hopeful grin on his face.

“But what if he is?!” You huffed at him, snapping your neck in his direction, and watched that smile slowly falter away. You easily succumbed yourself into guilt and sighed, reaching for his hand and kissed his knuckles, pressing your cheek against the back of his hand.

“I’m sorry. I’m just scared. Johnny promised to check on him, but I’ve never left my dad alone. It was always me and him against the world. I don’t want him to be alone…” You explained, and watched Jaehyun’s gaze go from you, to the streets.

The sunlight hitting his eyes as he squinted; he puffed his cheeks. “He’s an adult now, and so are you. If he doesn’t see this as the wake up call he needs to fix the error of his ways, then I’m sorry babe, but he’s an idiot.” His words caused your eyes to widen in response, looking at him and although every inch of you wanted to defend your dad, you knew he was right.

“Yeah… I know.” Your lips curled, letting go of Jaehyun’s hand and fell back into your seat.

The engine revved up again, but before Jaehyun could drive deeper into your neighborhood, took you by surprise as he pressed a quick kiss against your lips. “Everything will be okay. I’ll be by your side the whole time, and it’ll take more than panic and fear to keep me away from you.” He said with a chuckle, and you responded with a giggle.

You huffed, and the car roared to life again. It was only a matter of time when you had reached the front of your house, and the familiar, skyrocketing pulse had returned all over again.

Your hands grew sweaty as you continued to stare at the doors, and the longer you stared, the more you remembered.

You grew up in that house. Broken, and with the belief that you were unwanted, but despite the brokenness within those walls, you and your father had managed to fix the cracks. The only thing that made this more heavy of a weight to you, was that you had no idea that those cracks would just fall deeper with time.

“We’ll go when you’re ready.” Jaehyun said, and you turned to face him, a fearful look in your eye, and a forced grin onto your lips. Jaehyun sighed, reaching over towards you, your eyes fluttering closed, expecting for him to kiss your lips, but kissed your forehead gently instead. “You’ll be okay baby. You’re strong.” He reassured, and you took a deep breath, and nodded.

You both had exited the truck that Johnny had lent to Jaehyun to get your things. Piles of empty cardboard boxes sitting in the trunk, both you and Jaehyun grabbed a fair amount. Your footsteps echoing into your ears the closer you got to that green wooden door.

Your throat went dry, a trembling hand reaching towards it, you knocked with hesitation. Silence had followed, so you knocked again. When nothing but the continuous silence had played, you took a deep breath, reaching for the spare key you kept under your welcome mat, and unlocked the door.

“Dad…?” You whispered gently, expecting to see your father either thrown onto the couch like how he usually was, or not there at all. Instead, your father had sat down on one of the kitchen chairs, his head in his hands, and elbows rested against the table.

When he heard your voice, his head had whipped in your direction, his eyes a bloodshot red, you knew he hadn’t slept for a while. “Y/N…” He whispered, a smile itching onto his chapped lips, but when Jaehyun took a step inside, quickly standing by your side, that smile was just as quick to drop.

“Oh. You.” Your father spat, like the words themselves were filled with venom. Jaehyun forced a smile, bowing his head politely, you looked over at him and took a deep breath.

“We’re here to get my things. I shouldn’t take long…” You explained and watched your father’s entire world collapse at your sentence. “Y-Your things? You’re leaving? Y/N, please, think about what you’re doing—”

“What I’m doing is for your own good. It’s time I grow up, and it’s time you take better care of yourself… without my help.” Your jaw clenched, staring at your father as your hands balled up into fists.

“Johnny promised to check up on you now and then. Being here now is hard enough for me already. I can’t look at you right now dad… not right now. I don’t know when, but please respect my decision.” You felt a bitter taste in the back of your throat, your eyes welling up in tears.

Before they even fell down your cheeks, you took a sharp breath and rushed up the stairs, your pile of empty boxes in hand, you expected your father to scream for you not to leave by now, but to your surprise, nothing.

Silence.

You walked into your room, heart in your throat, you shut the door behind you and packed as much as you could.

Jaehyun stood there, his lips curled in a line. Your father stood in the same spot, feet rooted to the floor, and his eyes glaring down at Jaehyun. Jaehyun cleared his throat, gripping onto the empty boxes and took one short step forward.

“I should probably go help Y/N out, y’know how she can be—”

“Sit down, son. If you’re taking my daughter away from me, I should have a word with you at least.” Your father retorted, motioning over to the couch. Jaehyun’s throat had run dry, but he nodded and set the boxes down, walking to the couch and sat as far as he could. Your dad had then sat right next to him until they were touching shoulders.

His heart was pounding against his chest, and every inch of him just wanted to climb up the stairs and be with you, rather than being stuck with your dad’s icy stare.

Your dad placed a hand onto Jaehyun’s knee, and Jaehyun straightened his posture, easily tensing at your father’s touch. “I’m sure Y/N has told you about our life. How it’s not easy? How her mother left, and my addictions?” Your father asked, and Jaehyun nodded once, twice, three times.

“Y-Yes… Uh—yes sir.” He stuttered, and your father chuckled in response. “Then you know how much she means to me.” It fell silent again, and Jaehyun felt his shoulders droop. “Of course.”

“Our lives used to be perfect, but work got more stressful. Her mother and I got into more fights. I should’ve been more careful, but I resided in drinking. And I regret it with every inch of my being.” Jaehyun listened, brows furrowed, but nodded at your father’s sorrow filled words.

“I never got to be the father I wish I could’ve been for her. The type of father she deserves… and even if I want to punch you right now, or kick you where the sun doesn’t shine, I know it won’t do much.” Your father said, and Jaehyun guffawed.

“Pretty sure it’d do something…” Jaehyun mumbled, more to himself than your father, but your father still got a laugh out. “Just promise me one thing son…” Your father mumbled, and Jaehyun’s heart had skipped a beat at his words in panic, turning his head to face him, and see the tears creeping onto his tired eyes.

“Take care of her and be the man I failed to be for her… Give her the life I couldn’t have had the courage to.” His words were forced into a whisper near the end, gripping tightly onto Jaehyun’s shoulder enough to shake him a little.

It had taken him by surprise, but when your father looked up to meet Jaehyun’s eyes, his shoulders had relaxed, and he smiled reassuringly. “I will.” Your father breathed a dry laugh. “Good. Otherwise, I’ll find your ass and blend your nuts.” Your father said, and the smile Jaehyun had placed onto his lips, quickly dropped into fear.

Your father had bursted into fits of laughter, shaking his head and standing up with a huff. “I’m just pulling your leg.” Jaehyun cleared his throat and nodded his head, standing up to walk back to the boxes, your father shoved his hands in the pockets of his jeans and smiled gently.

“I’m glad she has you, Jaehyun. She’s lucky.” 

“Actually… Id like to think I’m the lucky one here, sir.” 

The two grinned at each other, and the sounds of a door opening and closing echoed in the house.

You walked down the stairs, three out of the six boxes in your hands, with a grunt, you struggled down the stairs. “If you want to move in today, I expect you help me out a little!” You shouted, and Jaehyun laughed before rushing over to your side, grabbing the boxes and setting them onto the floor.

“Sorry about that babe. C’mon, let’s finish up.” Jaehyun said, reaching for the empty boxes and jogging up the stairs. Meanwhile, you shook your head, ready to meet him up in your room until you felt your father’s gaze locked onto you. You smiled at him, and he smiled right back.

“I wish I could’ve been the father you deserve. I’m so sorry my love. I hope… that we can just start all over again, someday. This time, no alcohol, no fighting; just you, and me.” You nodded at his words, looking back up the stairs, then at him.

You huffed, and in that breath, rushed to your father and hugged him as tight as you could.

“I love you.”

“I love you too, kiddo.”

After hauling the last box into the truck, you groaned in relief as Jaehyun walked towards the driver’s side of the car, leaning against the door, you walked up to him, and wrapped your arms around his neck. “So we’re really doing this, huh?” You said with a closed smile.

Jaehyun lifted a brow, his hands rested onto your hips and tilted his head. “Yes, but we won’t be able to move in today if you don’t get your ass into the car right now instead of getting all snuggly with me.” Jaehyun teased, and you hit his shoulder.

“Shut up.” You chuckled, and Jaehyun curled his lips to prevent himself from laughing. “Oh, is that a threat?” He continued to tease, and you rolled your eyes before pulling him in for a kiss.

“Come on, let’s hurry. I don’t want to sleep on the floor.” You explained, and Jaehyun laughed, nodding his head and tapped your hips.

“Yes, ma’am.” You turned around at that, practically skipping to the passenger's side, sitting down and turning the radio up to the highest volume.

You watched your house shrink within the rearview mirror, your head rested against the window with your arm as a cushion. The wind whipping against your hair, tangling it up in a bunch, but you still closed your eyes and took a deep breath of the sudden liberation that filled you up.

The freedom that was just fingertips away from you. So close, you can just taste it. Nothing could subside the pounding of your heart beating rapidly against your chest. The adrenaline that ran through your veins, you had felt as if you were ready to take over to the world. And with him by your side.

A new life just waiting for you. A new life, with him. Everything still had felt like a dream, even at this moment. The music that vibrated around the car, Jaehyun humming to the tunes with his honey voice you found so soothing.

The bright sun settling into the clouds, painting the sky in an orange daydream. The leaves growing back, painting in its lively green and ready for Spring. Everything felt perfect, and for once, you no longer felt a crushing weight pulling you down.

A tall building came into sight, and the car skid to a stop. You woke up from your trance, turning to look at Jaehyun, who held the wheel with one hand, and his eyes glued onto you. A warm smile decorating his thin lips, and his dimples popping out of his cheeks. “Ready for a new adventure?” He asked, and you felt enlightened. With a dorkish grin plastered onto your lips, you nodded excitedly.

“With you, always.”

When the sun was nearing to its final drop of sunlight, you had put all the boxes inside the house, and Jaehyun had enough time to put in a queen-size mattress.

You snorted as you watched him struggle to the elevator, then seeing it wouldn’t fit, you ended up helping him up the stairs. Once you set the mattress down, the two of you crashed right on top with a grunt.

You stared up at the white ceiling, your hand resting on top of your stomach, and your head on top of Jaehyun’s chest. You listened to each other’s soft breaths, and your eyes fluttered closed to listen more carefully.

His heartbeat that was so rapid, now calmed down to a steady pace. His panting turned to soft breathing, then a sigh. “Well… at least we won’t be sleeping on the floor like you said.” You felt his voice vibrate against his chest, and you laughed.

“I suppose not.” You laughed out, moving yourself up onto your side, one arm propped up so you could get a clearer view of Jaehyun against the moonlit sky that poured through the wide living room window.

Strands of your hair falling onto his face, his eyes fluttered shut and hummed delicately. You watched with a giggle, and Jaehyun opened his eyes. “I know this place isn’t exactly a wonderland… but as long as you’re living here, it’ll be heaven to me.” He mumbled, and your heart had skipped a beat with his words he spoke so gently.

You shook your head, and dipped to press a quick kiss against his soft, supple lips. “It’s better than some wonderland, and better than heaven, as long as you’re here, with me.” He smiled at you, and so did you, and for a second, everything felt perfect.

“Come on, let’s turn on the lights and get some blankets and crash. Tomorrow we can finish unpacking.” You had broken out of the trance the two of you were in, patting his chest as you got up from where you lied on the bed. You stared at the piles on piles of boxes and took every bit of strength in you not to roll your eyes already.

You knew all too well that you would hate tomorrow if you had to unpack all of this and still have to get all the furniture. You had kept a positive mind and looked for the box filled with bed sheets and pillowcases. You held your phone in one hand, rummaging through box after box in attempts to find them, but one minute turned to two, and you were getting more impatient.

“You know, it’d be amazing if you could at least help a little babe.” You grunted, setting your phone down with your hands on your hips, you felt arms snake around your waist and swing you around. You bumped into his chest, a tiny gasp breathing through your lips, and laughed right away when Jaehyun had swayed to the silence that echoed within the empty apartment.

“Babe, what are you doing?” You asked, your arms resting against his chest, swaying alongside with him. “Dancing.” Jaehyun said plainly, and you eyed him suspiciously. “To nothing? C’mon, we need to find the blankets if you ever want to sleep warm tonight.” You chuckled, and Jaehyun shook his head with a grin. “I found the blankets a long time ago.”

Your eyes widened at his words, and a scoff whispering through your lips. “Why didn’t you tell me then instead of having me search endlessly for them?” You asked, and Jaehyun smirked devilishly at you.

“I just wanted to stare at your ass without you knowing.” You rolled your eyes at him and hit his chest. Eventually, your arms found its way to rest on Jaehyun’s nape, and without knowing, you swayed to some unknown melody.

“Why are we dancing?” You asked finally, a laugh echoing through your chest as Jaehyun shook his head. “I don’t know. I just felt like it.” He said with a grin, and your brows furrowed, but a smile had remained glued to your lips, unable to falter away no matter how hard you tried. “But there’s no music!” You chuckled, and Jaehyun curled his lips in a line, lost in thought at your remark.

“If you listen close enough, maybe you’ll find a symphony within the silence.” He whispered in your ear, and you hummed in response, your eyes fluttering close, and butterflies swarming your stomach. You listened close, just as Jaehyun had instructed.

You listened to your breathing, as it fell in harmony with his. Your heart that beat calmly, despite the warmth that radiated in your heart. You continued to listen to the silence, and suddenly, you heard a faint hum.

It was gentle, smooth and sweet. The melody felt warm, and graceful. You opened your eyes in surprise when the gentle hum echoed in your ears. Jaehyun was singing gently into your ear. You felt your heart skyrocket, and a bright cherry glow radiate onto your cheeks. He reached for one of your hands from his neck, taking it in his, and you slid the other hand to his shoulder.

His forehead rested gently on top of yours, feeling his warm breaths tickle your skin, feeling his chest vibrate with each hum from a verse. “I didn’t know you could sing.” You whispered delicately, Jaehyun spinning you around, you giggled wholeheartedly.

“I suppose it was my old little secret. It’s not something I like to share much.” Jaehyun said with a huff, and you breathed out a smile. “You sound beautiful…” You mumbled, and Jaehyun chuckled, spinning you once more, pulling you so your back was pressed against his chest, and your arms crossed, hands still interlocked with his, you swayed with him.

His lips was pressed against your ear, your head tucked into the crook of his neck, you let out a sigh of content. “Not as beautiful as you, my love.” Jaehyun whispered deeply, turning you back around and pulled you into a short kiss.

“You’re just being cheesy.” You laughed, and he shrugged. “Maybe, but it’s not like you want me to stop. Do you?” He asked, one brow raised.

You shook your head and went back into the sway you two were in. “I suppose not.” You laughed, and fell into the familiar, comforting silence.

The song he was singing to you had echoed in your head, and not long after, you hummed to the tune as well. “Oh? And to think I was the only talented one here.” Jaehyun teased after hearing your hums, and you shook your head, an awkward chuckle vibrated against your chest. “I wouldn’t say I have a talent for singing… but maybe something else?” You said, eyes averting away from Jaehyun.

He gripped onto your hand gently, enough to focus your attention back to him as he eyed you curiously. “And what is it that?” He asked, and you grinned in a dorkish manner.

“I… Well I don’t want to go all out and say I’m talented and all… and it’s more of a hobby really but—”

“Y/N.” Jaehyun looked at you, interrupting your rambling and your grin had felt sore from how wide it was getting by now.

You felt a tiny spark ignite in your eyes at the thought, and you giggled gently. “I—I paint.” You admitted, bowing your head away shyly, but heard Jaehyun fall into a fit of giggles.

“Really? I never would’ve expected for you to be a painter. Do you have any I can see?” He asked, but you curled your lips in a line, and thought back to the last painting you did. The painting of him. Your cheeks flushed into a deeper red and shook your head repeatedly.

“N-No. Not right now at least. I haven’t painted in a while, so I’m probably rusty now…” You excused and laughed, and Jaehyun sighed. “I really would’ve loved to see one of your paintings. Maybe someday?” He asked, and you nodded. Suddenly, the two of you had stopped swaying, Jaehyun’s brows furrowed, and he quickly removed himself from you.

Not even five seconds after, the same song he had been singing earlier had echoed quietly in the apartment. Jaehyun held up his phone, and on the screen, you read the song, and listened to the original singer’s voice instead.

A beautiful song you used to listen to as a child, with lyrics that felt so euphoric, you wished to one day live in a world of pink, filled to the brim with love.

Perhaps now you had finally found it.

You rolled your eyes, and Jaehyun slid back to where he had left you, and finally had found a beat to dance to. He pulled you closer, both hands now on your waist, and yours around his neck.

Your cheek pressed against his chest, and his chin rested above your head. “You have an amazing taste in music, you know that?” You whispered, and Jaehyun hummed. “I apparently have an amazing taste in most things. Music. Food. Women?” Jaehyun said, his voice turned mischievous near the end, earning you to look up at him strangely.

Before you even had the chance to respond however, his lips were quick to find yours, and pulled you into a deep, hungry, yet sweet kiss.

It started softly, lips ambling in rhythm to the melodies of the music. His hands that were wrapped gently around your waist, traveling up to cradle your head, a hand on the back of your head, pulling you in closer—if possible.

Soon enough, his kisses had grown more needy, and you felt the warmth in your heart turn hot, radiating throughout your body, and felt the steam rise off the goosebumps in your skin.

Everything passed by in a blur, and you found your back crashing against the mattress, Jaehyun hovered above you, hands roaming everywhere, not daring to leave one spot untouched as he read you over, and over, and over.

Studying each bit of your body down to memory, just like the first time he had seen you in your vulnerable state. He was careful and gentle, treating you with care, and looking back at you to see that you were happy. To see your smile, and hear your faint whimpers of pleasure, it was enough to keep him going.

Both of your clothes scattered onto the wooden floor, and nothing but your heavy pantings and the soft, sweet music resonating around the apartment.

Everything continued to feel like a dance. One step would lead into another, anticipating when you will spin, or when you will sway.

Your adrenaline coursing through your veins, sweat trickling down your skin. His body that glowed beautifully, tinting his milky skin against the blue night. Jaehyun looked at you, as if you were a painting itself. Admiring each inch of you, and showing such admiration, with a kiss. Each roll of his hips pressed into you, as he’d whispering sweet nothings softly into your ear.

Your fingers that’d dig into the silky sheets below, then leaving markings onto his broad shoulders, marking him yours, and only yours. His lips that’d trail to your lips, cheeks, slowly lead down to your neck, collarbone.

Taking his time with everything about you, he’d look into your eyes deeply, and you’d find yourself lost in the galaxy trapped within his. Everything felt like a dream, a dream you never wished to wake up from.

It felt perfect, and you had only craved to cherish moments like these. Moments that’d lead you deeper into the young night, until it had felt like you were drifting away from the world, and into heaven, and heaven had Jaehyun’s face, and you were more than okay with that.

The soft sunny sky poured through the open window, your closed eyes painted in a bright yellow, you groaned, tossing and turning in attempts to push the light away.

You tossed and turned, and your arm had bumped into something. Your brows furrowed, your eyes slowly opening with a yawn, Jaehyun lied next to you, propped up with one arm, staring down at your sleeping figure.

You blinked, and he smiled gently, and slipped his hand around your waist, pulling you closer to him. You grinned, humming in content when he dipped his head to press a chaste kiss onto your lips. “Good morning my love.” He chirped, and you giggled, and pressed another kiss onto his lips.

“Good morning.” You sang happily, rolling away from him in attempts to stretch, but when you felt a sudden gust of wind, your eyes snapped wide open and looked down at your naked top half. You shrieked, and reached for the blanket, and Jaehyun watched and fell into a fit of school boy giggles.

“You don’t have to cover up y’know.” He said as you sat up with a grunt, turning to look over at him, the blanket only covering his bottom half, enough to see his torso glistening against the sun. “It’s not like I haven’t seen anything already.” He hummed, and you rolled your eyes, reaching for a pillow behind you, and threw it with no further hesitation to him.

He laughed, sitting up and wrapped his arms around your waist before peppering you with tiny kisses onto your back.

You closed your eyes for a short moment, and when you opened them again, stared at the piles of boxes huddled in front of you.

You groaned, turning your head to the side to look over at Jaehyun who hummed at you. “We should probably start unpacking. Johnny said he’ll come by in a bit to help with the furniture. He said he’ll come by with the moving truck around 1 so it’ll give us enough time to get ready.” You instructed, and just as you were about to get up, Jaehyun hooked his arm around you, and pulled you back down.

Every inch of you wanted to groan, but when he smothered you in kisses, how could you stay even the slightest bit of stubborn? “So that gives us a bit more time to fool around~.” Jaehyun purred between kisses, and you choked a short laugh. “Jaehyun, I’m serious! Stop playing around and get dressed! Maybe a shower first while you’re at it.” You pulled him off of you, taking one of the sheets from the mattress, wrapping it around your body in search for your clothes.

After going through a couple of boxes, you found a comfortable pair of clothes, and when you turned to face Jaehyun, he had only continued to watch you. “You have a real staring problem, you know that?” You teased, tilting your head, and Jaehyun smiled, his ears flushing a shy pink.

“I should say that to you instead. You think I’m the only one who checks the other out? I see you staring at me with those devil eyes. Undressing me… you perv…” Jaehyun said, covering his chest with his arms—although it being no use. Still, your face flashed a bright crimson, and you cleared your throat.

“Oh hush. I’m going to take a shower, I won’t be long.” You walked towards the bathroom, the door creaking open and you flinched at the loud echo around the room. The walls were a faint beige color, and the shower was decorated with a white tile wall and floor.

Between the cracks of the tile, muck and mold was decorated at the seams. True, the apartment was more than beaten down, and it wasn’t exactly the cleanest place and a lot of work had to be done for it to even look half decent, but for now, it was more than enough.

You turned on the water to a comfortable heat—or what you found comfortable, others found boiling. You let the silk sheet flow under you, pooling your feet in its softness. You stepped out of your clothes and into the shower and sighed at the beads of water trickling down your naked body.

You stayed like that for a moment.

Listening.

Your eyes fluttered close, and you were taken back to the events that had occurred last night. How everything felt so surreal, so beautiful, and so utterly, perfect.

His body pressed against yours, your fingers that’d trail down his bare torso, tracing the shapes of his muscles, sticky with sweat that’d bathe his body in blue against the night sky.

His lips you so craved to feel once more, his touch that’d earn different reactions from you, aching for it again. You wanted Jaehyun all to yourself. Your little escape from everything bad in the world.

Your own little taste of heaven.

You heard the door open, your eyes opening, the shower curtain already drawn back. Jaehyun eyed at you, a mysterious, yet passionate look in his deep brown eyes.

No words exchanged, you had just read his eyes, and he climbed into the shower with you. He breathed out a laugh, and you stared at the droplets of water that’d crash onto his hair, trickling down to his cheek, neck.

Your stare gazing lower, and lower. Jaehyun snickered, reaching for one of your hands as he placed it right onto his chest. You stared at your hand, your eyes then moving up to meet Jaehyun’s eyes, he dipped his head, lips ghosting over yours.

Your eyes fluttered closed, your lips puckered, and just when you expected to feel his lips at any moment, instead felt a kiss pressed onto your nose.

“You weren’t kidding when I said I needed to shower. I’m all sweaty and gross.” Jaehyun cackled, your eyes shooting open, and the hand you had against his chest, you used to hit him. “You’re not funny!” You growled, your face a flushed mess and Jaehyun laughed wholeheartedly, pulling you in a hug.

“Come on baby, it was funny!” Jaehyun grinned, and you rolled your eyes, pushing him away, even though the distance was still small. “I don’t think showering together is a good idea. It’s too small for the two of us to fit.” You commented as you observed the shower, as did Jaehyun with a hum.

“You’re right. When I was about to step into the shower with you, I imagined it to be much sexier… guess not. Anyway, can you shampoo my hair?” Jaehyun had said so casually, handing you the shampoo bottle, and you looked up at him, your lips pursed so you wouldn’t laugh.

“Turn around.” You shook your head, and he obliged happily.

The rest of the shower went by fast, although Jaehyun would stop you from washing your body just so he can do it for you, or press a little kiss here and there.

Although when he tried to pull you in for a hug as he kissed you, a puddle of water would form in between your chests. You laughed, and he did too, and despite the small space, you didn’t seem to even think about it.

Jaehyun sat on the mattress, his legs crossed like a child as you found your hair dryer, drying off his hair, raking your fingers through the wet strands as he hummed in content. You grinned at his behavior, seeing how he acted like a puppy, so happy and relaxed against your touch. You changed into a pair of shorts, a white tank and a random flannel that most likely belonged to Jaehyun.

Jaehyun dressed into simple ripped jeans and a white tee, and after a small breakfast together, you had unpacked.

Time passed by faster than you expected, and Johnny was already calling you to tell you that he was there with the moving truck. Both you and Jaehyun rushed down the stairs, and for the first two hours was spent moving all the furniture from Jaehyun’s apartment, down the stairs, and onto the truck. “Where’s Taeyong? Surely some of this stuff must be his?” You questioned, looking around as if the man would pop up at any moment. Jaehyun looked over at you, an arched brow, and chuckled.

“Actually, he moved in with Doyoung. He got accepted into university and Doyoung offered him to live with him since he lives closer to his school.”

“And what about you?”

“He said I’d manage. Either way, I had to find my own place soon since we got… evicted...”

“You what?!” You shouted, taking Johnny by surprise and lost grip on the couch, landing on one of the stairs and causing Jaehyun to stagger in his steps.

“I-I’m sorry! We had this party one day and… well let’s say it got a little wild?”

“And by ‘a little while', you mean…?”

“Lucas may or may have not jumped off the balcony and into the pool…” Your teeth gritted, and Jaehyun averted his eyes away like a guilty child. Johnny watched, his eyebrows raised and a huff escaping his lips before picking the couch back up and continued to take it down towards the truck.

“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me.” You rolled your eyes, and Jaehyun sighed.

“It’s not like I didn’t want to! You just had so much on your plate already, a-and it was just us being reckless, stupid guys!”

“Yeah, no shit!”

Jaehyun sighed, you let go of the couch and stormed towards the truck. Jaehyun watched you stomp towards the passenger's seat, and opened his mouth to speak, but the loud slam of the car door closing was quick to interrupt.

He groaned. Johnny climbed up onto the inside of the truck, setting down one side of the couch and quickly rushing over to Jaehyun, helping with his side.

“I think she’s upset.” Johnny said innocently, turning to look at Jaehyun with a smile. Jaehyun scoffed and shook his head.

“Really? Because I thought she was ecstatic.” He rolled his eyes, and Johnny laughed, shaking his head and patted Jaehyun’s back.

“C’mon dude, you know how she can be. She’ll forgive you in a heartbeat.”

“You think?” Jaehyun asked, and Johnny grinned sweetly, nodding his head.

“Yeah… I don’t know about me though.” His smile was immediate to falter, shutting the U-Haul door, leaning against it and glared at Jaehyun.

“Why wasn’t I invited?” He asked, and Jaehyun’s eyes widened, quick to look away from Johnny’s burning glare. “I… um… technically it wasn’t even my idea to throw the party! I invited Lucas over, and next thing I fucking knew, I had nineteen boys where six of them are fucking minors show up—”

“C’mon, even they went?! What the hell Jaehyun!” Johnny frowned, and Jaehyun sighed. “I didn’t ask for them to show! Y’know for teenagers, they’re terrifying.” Jaehyun flailed his arms, and when he looked back at Johnny, saw the sad look in his eye.

“Was it fun?” Johnny pouted, and Jaehyun hung his head low, nodding his head in guilt. “Did Lucas really jump off the balcony?” Another guilty nod. Johnny laughed and flung his arm around Jaehyun’s shoulders.

“Dope.” He said, and Jaehyun looked up in surprise, an awkward chuckle emitting his lips. “Anyway, I think that was the last of it. I’d drive the truck since Y/N is all upset but I think this one’s for you to handle. I’ll take my truck full of your shit and see you at your apartment.” Johnny left before Jaehyun could have a say in anything.

The ride was silent at first, not even the radio was playing to act as some form of white noise. The windows were rolled up, and the sudden anger you felt had soon subsided to guilt. The truck had come to a stop, your apartment building in front of you, but Jaehyun didn’t move from where he sat.

The tension had become suffocating; you wanting to open your mouth, but each time found yourself choked up with the knot that tied up in your throat.

“I—um,” You cleared your throat, “I’m sorry for exploding back there…” You whispered, Jaehyun’s hands still on the steering wheel. “No, it’s fine. I should’ve told you when it happened. It’s just that you had a lot going on and I didn’t want to add on… to it…” He explained, and you nodded.

Silence.

You curled your lips, your hands buried in between your thighs. Jaehyun puffed up his cheeks, and in that sigh he breathed through, you felt the guilt eat you up.

“N-No, it’s not fine. I shouldn’t have flipped like that. You guys were just being… well reckless—like you said. I don’t know why I got so mad! Fuck I’m so stupid…” You buried your face in your hands.

“You had every right to be mad! I should’ve told you, but even so, I already had plans on finding a place of my own. Guess getting evicted just gave me the push I needed.” Jaehyun breathed out a laugh, you turned to face him, and giggled reluctantly.

You looked into each other's eyes, and with actions speaking much louder than words, he pulled you into a warm embrace.

Burying his face in the crook of your neck, you listened carefully to his breathing. “I get why you got upset with me, but I already planned on everything that is happening right now. Living with you, in a place where I can call our own, with new memories just waiting to be made… I’m living my dream, and I hope that can be enough.” Your heart had felt like it was glowing at this point.

His words felt sweet, and soft to the sound. His chest that vibrated against you, your eyes fluttered close, and you hummed contently.

“It’s more than enough.”

Here we come, washing over the net, getting happiest looks from everyone we know. Hey hey it’s the Nerds! We are back once again with a brand new episode for your entertainment pleasure. Buck has word that e-scooters are not as green friendly as is first suggested. That’s right, Buck is unhappy with the misperception of those zippy little shared e-scooters littering up the city. Apparently a study has shown some data that questions their usage, let alone the materials used in the manufacture of the various components. Then there is the issue of the scooters ending up in water ways. That’s right, some idiots are throwing e-scooters into rivers, creeks, lakes and other various waterways. Some people are seriously troubling in the level of stupid they present to the world.

5 Aug 1930 – S. A. Andrée’s balloon polar expedition of 1897 was aimed to cross over the North Pole in 43 hours in a hydrogen balloon then journey on to land thanks to the financial support of the Swedish King Oscar II and Alfred Nobel. Andrée’s balloon lost much of its steering capabilities just after launch when a number of drag ropes fell from the craft and ballast sand was thrown overboard. The remaining ropes could be seen trailing in the water till the balloon vanished out of sight. And that was the last anyone heard or saw of the trio for more than 30 years. Discovery came on the 5th August 1930 when the Norwegian Bratvaag expedition found remains on White Island, on the Svalbard archipelago, of a headless body, disturbed by polar bears propped up against a rock. Further investigations by a journalist revealed the bodies of both his companions and diaries detailing much of their ordeal. A camera was also found, and 93 eerie negatives developed of their tragic journey. Recipe for Turnbout (3-3), part 2: Jean Armstrong and gender

I’m sorry if this game made anyone feel invalidated because dang, I felt really awful at some points of this case. Jean Armstrong is awesome and I’m not sure which pronouns Jean would prefer so I’m avoiding them, but Jean self-identified as a man (I think) and as a woman (I’m sure) in Jean’s own mind or feelings, so I’d roll with guessing a non-binary gender identity. For someone my age (I’m old and rickety, yo) this is a bigger deal than it might be for my Gen Z kids. I really love Jean. I love how Jean is unafraid to be Jean, to have masculine and feminine feelings, to love pink and frills, to be buff, to be plump, to wear a beard, to be really good at eye makeup.

So when the judge asked, “Are you a woman?” and when Gumshoe identified Jean as a woman in a way that seemed like it was supposed to make us laugh (and thank you, dear Phoenix, for at least trying to *correct* Gumshoe because it made me feel a little better), those things made me feel rotten. Hey, I’m not the straightest arrow in the quiver, and speaking as an old person from Gen X, I didn’t know any words for any nonbinary or noncis genders when I was a kid. Or a young adult. I didn’t really know they existed or could exist. Which led to a lot of thinking I personally was probably wrong and broken inside and pushing feelings down into a little box with a tight lid because there was no safe place for them.

Anyway I wish the judge had asked what pronouns Jean preferred, instead of what gender Jean was. And I wish Gumshoe would get a little education, not that I can be *too* mad when I know I needed the same education, though.

I don’t want Ace Attorney to be hurtful because I love it. But like anything, it’s not perfect. It has flaws. I’m sad.

In conclusion, I love Jean Armstrong and you mess with Jean, you mess with me.
