You're on You're Own, Kid... or are you?
After last night's show in Lyon, I got curious about how many times Taylor has performed “You're on Your Own, Kid" during the acoustic set. Turns out that it's now (lucky number) seven.
And, good lord. The story these song choices tell is just…devastating. Absolutely heartbreaking. This woman was going the fuck through it. (A little background: my interpretation of YOYOK has always been post Cruel Summer just before her move to New York. Harry is the guy smoking with his boys who ostensibly, in her eyes, loves her not).
April 14, 2023 in Tampa, Fla. — “The Great War” with Aaron Dessner and “You’re on Your Own, Kid”
August 5, 2023 in Los Angeles, Calif. — “Death by a Thousand Cuts” and “You’re on Your Own, Kid”
Aug 26, 2023 in Mexico City, Mexico — “Cornelia Street” and “You’re on Your Own, Kid”
Feb. 10, 2024 in Tokyo, Japan — “Come In With the Rain” and “You’re on Your Own Kid”
March 7, 2024 in Singapore — “Death by a Thousand Cuts”/”Babe” and “Fifteen”/”You’re on Your Own, Kid”
May 25, 2024 in Lisbon, Portugal — “The Tortured Poets Department”/”Now That We Don’t Talk” and “You’re on Your Own Kid”/”Long Live”
June 2, 2924 in Lyon, France — “The Prophecy”/”Long Story Short” and “Fifteen”/”You’re on Your Own Kid”
The vibe from these song selections is all very much, "I'm in pain and I'm waiting for you for some reason I don't even understand," until we get to the piano segment of May 25 in Lisbon. Then, I perceive a shift in gears/mood with the addition of "Long Live." What's that about? … Well, I have a glimmering, inkling of positive intuition. But I am an eternal optimist, so who knows?
We'll just have to wait and see.

Ah I loved that, thankyou!! I feel like Yechan would hate me tho because I LOVE to tease. I am a menace to my younger sister (I once convinced her for about 5 mins that she didn't actually know what her middle name was, but then again I'm am extremely gullible and my brother has convinced me of things that I have believed for years 😭). He would definitely be so supportive though and I feel like it would be so interesting to have convos about music with him!
Sangyeop definitely strikes me as the reliable "I'm here if you need me" type of of guy. He would definitely be such an interesting person to talk to, the amount of random knowledge that he must know could keep me entertained for hours lol
I need Wonsang to help me through my fears even now lol. He's so sweet and I could see him being so patient with you while trying to get you to face them, why is he not in my life 😭😭
Songwriting with Gwangil would be so fun! And the amount of inside jokes you would probably have is amazing. I definitely agree with you, I think his hugs could solve anything and I absolutely need one lol.
I'm glad piano has been going well! How are you finding the teacher, do you like them? Ooh that's cool, do you have a lot of arm muscles from that? I always imagine that tennis players must have insane muscles but I could be wrong lol. That's so interesting that you lived overseas, can I ask where you lived? I'm sure it must have been hard to adjust! 2 of my best friends also lived overseas with missionary parents, but I don't think they struggled too much since the were so young and then moved back while they were still in primary school. I'm good! Not up to much either lol. I went on a mini roadtrip with two of my friends (funnily enough the ones I just mentioned). It was really good, but also really funny to see them interact with eachother since they are sisters. One is a year older than me and the other is a year younger, so being in the middle of it always very fun. I still live with my brother, but even then we hardly interact lol. Somedays the only interaction we have is when he's filling his bottle up before he goes to bed at like 1am and that's very short lol. We definitely have the same (broken) sense of humour, there was a period of time when we were constantly rickrolling each other and we both became very paranoid messaging each other ahaha. That's definitely the thing with family though, they are so annoying and some days you just want to slap them, but you also love them so much and would fight for them. If anyone touches my baby sister (who is only 3yrs younger lol) there will be hell to pay 😡😡
lmao yechan would lose patience fr 😭😭 my older siblings always gaslit me when i was little OMG like they fr convinced me my nose was blue and now they wont let it go even now like 13 yrs later 😭😭😭😭😭 yeah sangyeop is so sweet and reliable :( and hes so smart too i feel like he'd advice for anything!!! wonsang is the sweetest like stop.... im so sad :( gwangil has so much fun around the people hes close to but he can be so quiet to others i love him </3
i really like my teacher!! i had her back in 2020 too so its not completely new <3 i don't lol it doesn't take as much strength as you would think to hit the ball you just need to practice to get the timing right and accuracy down then its pretty easy in terms of strength!!
yeah i lived in the philippines for 3 yrs and i've also been to some other south east asian countries like indonesia, singapore, and cambodia <3 i remember having so much fun living in the countries and i would make friends really easy but the problem was i would always be moving away so i was never able to keep any friendships. even now im scared to make in person friends cause im scared im just going to move away again, so that's why i only have online friends :( its like a security net ig... cause i know we wont just lose contact one day <//3 omg that's so fun i miss roadtrips!! and i miss having in person friends too lskdjsk
yeah i live with my two closest brother and sister in age but sometimes we don't even see each other in a day not because we go outside but because they're sleeping... 😭 i love broken senses of humor tho like i fr have a teenage boy sense of humor with my best friend 💀💀💀 sibling relationships are so precious imo and so unique to any other relationship out there cause they could be so different from you that if you weren't siblings you would never be friends. but because you are you get along with them and love them to death <3

CAN I PLEASE HAVE FOR THE HEADCANON THINGIE 🏳️‍🌈😇🧸👽🎶🦾💝(cant find the emoji but Romantic HEADCANON) for Michelle zuria???
Michelle Zuria sexuality, religion, childhood, weird quirk, music, disability, love language and romantic headcanons.
(You are very lucky because I am very much on my CarmenXMichelle brain worms, rn)
Warning for mentions of childhood neglect, amputation, and spoilers.
Sexuality headcanon: Bisexual
Religion headcanon: Christian, but doesn't do a lot of the typical things like going to church.
Childhood headcanon: She had military parents, so she was moved around a lot as a kid. She did move back to Singapore after university, though.
Weird quirk headcanon: She has a tendency to accidentally sneak up on people. She had very quiet footsteps, and it often scares others.
Music headcanon: She took piano lessons as a kid and is pretty good at it, even today.
Disability headcanon: I already spoke about her PTSD and autism, so I'll talk a bit about her amputation in my AU. In this case, she does use a prosthetic but normally takes it off when she doesn't need it.
Love Language headcanon: Acts of service. She literally defends Carmen in court in my AU.
Romantic headcanon: On dates, she will try to make it last as long as possible, especially when it comes to the first date so she can get to know her lover better.

HLAW: Day 5—Home/Childhood
Good evening and happy day 5 of Hana Lee Appreciation Week! This is one the easiest days for me to contribute to, as I’ve already spent an extensive amount of time creating head canons for Hana revolving around this very theme. Since PB’s mostly left her backstory a blank page aside from Shanghai being her home town and her having a late grandmother, this leaves us Hana fans to build her one ourselves. I hope y’all enjoy reading mine! 😁
Tagging @hanaleeappreciationweek and the truly spectacular hosts @lizzybeth1986 and @sazanes!
~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~
The Lee’s originally immigrated from mainland China to Singapore in the mid 1800s; they started their own textile company just before the boom hit as a result of WWI
When the Great Depression struck, they moved their business to Shanghai and continued to thrive until the Second Sino-Japanese War began destroying mills and supply chains
The Lee’s left for Hong Kong and were able to recover until their company the Lee Kowloon Group had become the biggest privately owned manufacturer of textiles in China, with a yearly revenue of 25 billion yuan (~$3.5 billion)
Cheung Bao (张宝) [1] was a Cantonese fashion designer who married into the Lee Family; as their second son, Xinghai (星海) wasn’t expected to inherit a controlling share of the family company
As such, Xinghai moved to Shanghai to re-establish the textile market there (since the only real competition was the government) with a subsidiary focused on high quality fabrics aimed at the rich
This move was made several months after he’d married Lorelai Ryuka, who he’d met in Cordonia when he’d gone to accompany his mentor/friend Charles Shang [2] to the celebration of Prince Liam’s birth in order to network
The only daughter of Lady Syeira, Lorelai was heir to their regality Antirrhinum, but after her parents passed, she chooses to relocate permanently to Shanghai with her husband and leaves its stewardship in the hands of her grandmother Floure
Though they both hope for a son, Lorelai gives birth a few years later to a daughter who they name Hana Lee Hua (李花), and she is raised in one of the Rose Garden Villas in the Xuhui District of Shanghai
During her Zhuazhou ceremony, Hana picks the cooking utensil which means she’ll make a good housewife, and later turns out to be a child prodigy (particularly on the piano)
Her parents’ aspirations are thus reignited and they pin all of their hopes onto her, as due to the One Child Policy she will be their only one
While visiting Lorelai intermittently to update her on their regality, Floure spends time with Hana to regale her with fairy tales and Cordonian folk stories [3]
Floure passes when Hana is 6, who is not able to attend the funeral since it’s in Cordonia; Xinghai instead takes her to the zoo where she sees pandas for the first time
Hana is educated from the ages of 5 to 10 primarily by her Taiwanese governess Tài Luó, who after is replaced by Lady Julianne de Montfort of Brittany [4]
Under Lady Julianne, she begins studying etiquette in preparation for her first society appearance at the start of England’s Social Season, after which there is a sharp decrease in time spent with her parents outside of social engagements
While abroad, Hana is also enrolled in the Wimbledon Village Stables, a riding academy where she studies dressage, and she successfully schemes to no longer have to play the piano in public at the age of 12
Though her parents end her lessons since they refuse to spend money on a skill that’s no longer of “use,” Hana’s instructor Lin Changsong [5] already told her that there was nothing else he could teach her
Bao is a central figure in her childhood as well as her primary caretaker at home when Lorelai and Xinghai are out of town; she inspires Hana’s love of fashion design and fosters her talent
Hana herself serves to inspire some of Bao’s own designs, and as canon states, they sew a black cheongsam together the summer before Bao dies, which is only a few weeks before Hana turns 15
Thus sparks her “goth phase” that goes hand in hand with being gifted a laptop of her own in order to attend the online Balissande Finishing School
The phase is also inspired by the black kitten Li Ming her grandmother left to her, but it’s less gothic and more angsty, as she uses her laptop to wax bleak poetry on her Stumblr blog, stream sad romance movies, and indulge in hurt/comfort fanfiction
Hana goes undiscovered for nearly a year, but once Lorelai finds out about the blog, her laptop is confiscated; she dyes her hair pink in retaliation for her 16th birthday celebration, and though it’s only temporary, Li Ming is taken as punishment [6]
At 18, she attends the first Shanghai International Debutante Ball in the dress pictured below, heralding her official debut into society and the start of her parents attempts to have her be chosen by a suitor
Tumblr media
Foot Notes:
Bao’s face claim is Vivienne Tam, a real Chinese fashion designer. Credit to @cassiopeiacorvus for the Cantonese HC!
Charles Shang is a character from Crazy Rich Asians; after watching the movie following @mand-delemonde pointing out that Hana should be living the same sort of lifestyle, I decided to have CRA crossover into my version of the Choices world. I imagine Xinghai and Charles bonded over neither being the heir to their respective family companies. Charles was invited to celebrate Prince Liam’s birth since I head canon his niece Princess Cassandra was a friend of Queen Eleanor’s.
This is based on the coin tradition scene Hana shares with her fiancée in TRR3, which she states she learned from her great-grandmother. I’ve fleshed out Lorelai’s side of the family further than is shown, but the details weren’t included in this post since the only Cordonian family member Hana met during her childhood was Floure.
Tài Luó and Lady Julianne’s names are derived from the characters Miss Anne Taylor (from Emma) and Julian (from Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper). Julianne’s surname is due to how I made her the daughter of the Duke of Brittany, a duchy which is extinct IRL. She’s actually a friend of Joëlle’s, who in my head canon is a noblewoman from a neighboring French duchy that’s also extinct IRL, but those details will be shared during Kiara’s appreciation week later this month.
Lin Changsong is a parodied version of the pianist and composer Yin Chengzong. I imagine that if Hana had not been forced to hide her skill in order to keep it from being exploited, Lin would have tried to convince her parents to enroll her in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music (which Yin himself joined at the age of 12).
I do plan to have Li Ming and Hana reunite in my post-TRR fic because I could never be that heartless. 🤧

WHY SINGAPORE MOVING COMPANIES ARE THE BEST IN LUXURY MOVES
When moving to luxury, there is a lot more at stake. Therefore, whether it is high-value items, expensive furniture, or even artwork that could be priceless, the move really counts. That is where Singapore moving companies shine. Efficient and highly skilled, Singapore moving companies are known for their dedication to customer satisfaction—your very best partner in ensuring a safe and secure luxury move. In this article, we will present reasons why moving companies in Singapore work best for a luxury move and what sets them apart from others.
1. High-Value Item Handling Expertise
Considering major reasons for which moving companies are chosen in Singapore, they arrange luxury moves with the expertise in handling high-value items. From ancient furniture to fine art and delicate chandeliers, they have experience and necessary skills for packing these items, their transportation, and unpacking them safely.
These moving companies in Singapore have professionals who understand the fine art of handling luxurious goods—from appropriate and specialized packing materials like custom crates, all done to ensure the protection of each item during transit. A fine example would be that the artwork would first be wrapped in acid-free paper before placing them in made-to-measure wooden crates so that no damage could occur during the move. High-end furniture is often disassembled, wrapped in padding protection, and then reassembled at the destination site.
In addition, these companies know how to move luxury items and follow the best practices for ensuring that your items are moved under the most opportune conditions regarding climate control and security. For instance, if you are moving a wine collection of enormous value, then a Singapore moving company will be able to provide temperature-controlled transportation in order to ensure that your wines are moved under the right temperature conditions.
2. Customized Moving Services
The more luxurious the move, the more bespoke it ought to be. Singapore moving companies are expert customizers of services for all unique needs of their clients. They respect and value every luxury move as special and take time to get to know your requirements and preferences.
These movers can offer a range of services that may be adjusted to your needs: from packing and unpacking through storage to interior setup at your new residence. For instance, having a collection of clothes by top designers, you might require special packaging; then, the moving company will provide you with wardrobe boxes that allow your clothes to be transported without removal from their hangers, thus minimizing wrinkles and damage.
This is in addition to a personal moving consultant, whom most moving companies in Singapore will assign to your luxury move. The coordinator serves as a single point of contact throughout the process and ensures that your move is executed according to your specifications. They shall be there from consultation to the very last delivery, keeping you updated regarding every step of your move and hence giving you peace of mind that it is in good hands.
3. Advanced Technology and Equipment
Another factor that makes Singapore moving companies the best for luxury moves is their use of advanced technology and equipment. They invest in the latest tools and technological concepts so that all your belongings are dealt with care.
For instance, most Singapore moving companies operate air-ride suspension trucks for a smoother ride to move your belongings, reducing the risk of damage during transit. Some will even offer GPS tracking that enables you to track where your goods are at any given time, thus providing added security and transparency.
Moreover, these companies are fitted with the latest heavy-lifting or bulky article-handling equipment. It could be a grand piano or a large sculpture; the companies have the tools to move such items without a single scratch safely. The kind of precision and care involved in a luxury move—where even a small scratch severely devalues an item—is hard to find in other moves.
4. Comprehensive Insurance Coverage
Regarding the movement of luxury goods or items, insurance takes central stage. Moving companies in Singapore appreciate this by including a clear insurance package for customers' high-value goods in case of damage or loss during the move. This will put them at peace, knowing that on the slight chance of damage or loss, your items will have some compensation.
A detailed inventory of your personal effects will be done prior to the move, together with remarks on each item regarding their condition. This inventory is used to determine what level of insurance coverage your move requires. If something does go wrong, then Singapore moving companies' claims process is usually straightforward and handled with the same professionalism as the move itself.
Furthermore, most moving companies in Singapore have good relations with insurance providers and, therefore, are better placed to offer very competitive rates and comprehensive policies tailored toward luxury moves. This ensures that your high-value items are appropriately covered, giving you one less thing to worry about during your relocation process.
5. Commitment to Customer Service
The luxury move requires high customer service, which Singapore moving companies can duly provide. From the first consultation to the final delivery, these companies look after customer satisfaction in every department of your move.
Singapore moving companies are very professional and reliable. They understand how stressful a move can be, especially if there is valuable goods in the way. They put their best effort into ensuring that the process goes as smoothly and hassle-free as possible. Special requests, timely updates, or even post-move support - they leave no stone unturned to go above and beyond customer expectations.
In addition, most of Singapore's moving companies have achieved industry certification and service excellence awards. These recognitions themselves talk about their pursuit of the highest levels of quality and customer satisfaction for them to be rated as a premier choice for luxury moves.
Conclusion
As far as luxury moves are concerned, the ideal moving company is one that will ensure that all your treasured possessions get handling and expertise of the highest standard. Moving companies in Singapore offer the finest in luxury moves with specialist expertise, tailored services, advanced technology, complete insurance, and dedicated customer service.
Whether you are moving within Singapore or to a foreign country, these firms can deliver the level of professionalism and attention to detail required by your luxury move. Understanding Mover Costs in Singapore
Tumblr media
Relocating can pose major challenges and anxiety, particularly when grasping the expenses entailed. The charges for engaging movers in Singapore can fluctuate considerably depending on various factors, so knowing what to anticipate can be extremely helpful. With that, discover the primary factors impacting moving expenses and learn tips on effectively handling your finances.
Factors Influencing Mover Costs in Singapore
Understanding the factors impacting the overall cost is essential when planning a move. These factors include the size of your move, the distance between locations, the services required, and the specific moving company you choose.
Size of the Move
One of the primary determinants of mover costs is the size of your move. This factor typically includes the volume of items being transported and the complexity of handling those items. Larger moves with more furniture and personal belongings will naturally require more resources, including labour and packing materials, leading to higher costs. Additionally, if you have special items like pianos, antiques, or large appliances, the expense may increase due to the need for special handling and equipment.
Distance Between Locations
The distance between your current location and the new one is another significant factor for mover costs in Singapore. Local moves generally cost less compared to long-distance moves. Costs are often calculated hourly for local moves, while long-distance moves may be charged based on total distance and your belongings' weight. Understanding this distinction can help you better estimate your moving expenses.
Type of Services Required
The type of services you choose will also influence the overall mover cost. Simple moving services typically include loading, transportation, and unloading. However, many moving companies offer additional services such as packing and unpacking, temporary storage, and furniture disassembly and reassembly. These services can add to your total moving cost but may also provide significant convenience and reduce the stress of moving.
Specific Moving Company
Different moving companies may offer varying rates for similar services. Obtaining quotes from multiple movers is then essential to compare prices and services. Look for companies with positive reviews and a good track record to ensure you get a fair price and a reliable, professional service. Sometimes, paying more for a reputable mover can save you from potential headaches and ensure a smoother moving process.
Typical Mover Rates in Singapore
Here is an overview of typical house mover rates to give you a clearer picture of what to expect. Remember, these rates can vary based on the factors mentioned above.
Basic Moving Services
For a basic move, which includes transportation of items without additional services, you can expect to pay around SGD 300 to SGD 800 for a 3-room HDB flat. For larger properties, such as a 5-room HDB flat or a condominium, the cost can range from SGD 800 to SGD 1,500.
Full-Service Moves
Full-service moves, including packing and unpacking services, can be more expensive. A 3-room HDB flat, full-service moving costs can range from SGD 800 to SGD 1,500. The expense can go up to SGD 2,500 or more for larger properties. These services provide added convenience and ensure that your belongings are professionally packed, reducing the risk of damage during transit.
Specialised Moves
Expect to pay additional fees if you have special requirements, such as moving valuable antiques or large musical instruments. These specialised moves require extra care and often involve custom packing solutions and specialised equipment. Costs for such services can vary widely, so it's best to get specific quotes from moving companies offering these services.
Managing Your Moving Budget
Understanding the costs involved in hiring movers is the first step in managing your moving budget effectively. Here are some tips to help you control your moving expenses:
Get Multiple Quotes
Always obtain quotes from at least three different moving companies. This approach will give you a better understanding of the market rates and help you identify any outliers.
Plan Ahead
Booking your move well in advance can help you secure better rates. Last-minute moves often incur higher charges due to limited availability.
Declutter
Before the move, take the time to declutter and dispose of items you no longer need. This approach can significantly reduce the volume of your belongings and, consequently, the cost of your move.
Choose the Right Services
Evaluate which services you genuinely need. While full-service moves offer convenience, you might be able to save money by handling some tasks yourself, such as packing.
Conclusion
One must consider factors like the scale and distance of the relocation, the specific services needed, and the moving company chosen to fully comprehend the expenses associated with hiring movers in Singapore. You can guarantee a more seamless and economical moving process by staying informed about these aspects and proactively managing your finances. Comparing quotes, strategising, and selecting services that align with your requirements are all necessary to execute a successful move.

Steinway and Sons Singapore - Recording with Dr Lin Hengyue
24 November
Tumblr media
This was another recital recording for a piano teacher, to showcase her private students. There were parents involved as well. There were no issues this time round.
I went to setup earlier and began experimenting with the mic positions to find the best spot. The piano model was a Steinway B211. I originally placed the AB pair right at the curve of the piano body, pointing almost perpendicular to the length of the lid. I didn't like how it sounded though, because there were too much mid frequencies. so, I decided to trust my ears this time. I moved my ears to to the height of the stereo pair and listened critically. As I tilted my head slightly to the left (towards the keyboard) across the horizontal axis of the mic, that's when I realized I found the sweet spot. I then positioned the mics according to where I was looking, and the signal instantly sounded a lot clearer.
One irrelevant observation I made was that there was a stark difference between the performance and technical skill between kids that are trained in a music school versus those who are trained with a private teacher.
Reflection:
I think that after a few more times of freelance recordings (I also do podcasts and other recitals), I am slowly becoming more used to the way the industry works, and I am also familiarizing myself with their expectations. I am also starting to doubt myself lesser, and also learning the importance of mutual trust between client and specialist.

Entry 12: What I learnt in Tasmania
This is my last journal entry before I submit this journal to my school. For the final entry, I wanted to sum up what I have learnt through this exchange program in Tasmania. Firstly, I have learnt to be more independent. Although this is not my first time living by myself, it was my first time going away to a further country with a different time zone. I first moved from Malaysia to Singapore back in 2019, but honestly, the culture between the two countries is not too far apart and it was only an hour's plane distance, besides, I have a few relatives staying there who will often assist me if I need help. I learnt to cook more complicated food to satisfy my cravings (since eating out is very expensive), to share a common area like a toilet, shower room, kitchen and laundry room with the other students, learnt some tips on saving money, for example, going to the supermarket in the evening to get more discounted food and more. I have learnt to adapt to new environments too, for example, I finally got used to showering in cold weather, and now I have no problem wearing short sleeves in weather below 20 degrees Celsius. I also learnt to step out of my comfort zone. I joined as many activities and events hosted by the school, the accommodations or any public events in Hobart. As an introvert, socialising was never my forte, but this exchange made me want to get to know everyone and learn more about the culture. I learnt about the history of the Aboriginals and the history of how this island was discovered. I had joined events like paint’n’sip where the students got to paint following a Bob Ross’ video tutorial while drinking wine, a brunch for international students where all international students gathered together and get to know each other and recently a Ramadan dinner hosted by the students of the Malaysia Society in UTAS. Although I found that there was more workload in UTAS compared to Lasalle, I managed to complete all without any trouble. I realised the biggest difference was I only needed to focus on school over here while in Singapore, I had to juggle between school and my part-time job. I did attempt on finding a job in Tasmania but did not get any messages back from the employer, so I decided to enjoy the luxury of only having to prioritise academics and not worried about other things. In school, I obtained knowledge in music and politics whereby I learnt the interrelationship between music and politics, and how they affected each other. It is also through this unit, I understand more about the darker side of music such as gender inequality, environmental crisis and racism. I also gained a lot in piano lessons with Shan Deng, the head department of the keyboard. She let me see and learn music from a different perspective, and how to execute the result I want more efficiently. Besides, in accompaniment class, I got the opportunity to work with Aiden, a French Horn player. I had never accompanied a brass instrumentalist before, so I was excited to collaborate with him. It has only been two and a half months, but I felt like I had stayed here for a long time. The semester ends in June and I only left 2 more months here, yet I am not ready to bid farewell to this beautiful island. Tasmania, an island that is always forgotten even by Australians themselves, full of rich natural resources and breathtaking sceneries, filled with kindness and love, will always hold a special place in my heart. I will end my journal with some of my favourite photos taken in Tasmania, the island of abundance.
