We are now officially two Collison-Ris birthdays into the season. Just like that, one week and BAM. Both Kimmer and Linzy's birthdays are good 'n celebrated.
Tuesday night, two nights ago, Kimmer spent a couple hours crafting Linzy's birthday card from card parts, craft supplies, and her own imagination. Wednesday morning, I wrote a piece for our family blog about Linzy from the day of her birth... and back again. And then from that, taking one of the themes from that post, I wrote into the birthday card Kimmer crafted the night before... a little birthday message for our daughter.
Meanwhile, Kimmer made Linzy a very lemon birthday cake, also wrapping Linzy's birthday presents in purple and pink tissue paper. Linzy's favorite colors right now.
So then Linzy shows up around 11:30 for card, presents, and general lolligagging, after which we head out about an hour later.
Our destination?
U-Village.
That's right. We're spending Linzy's birthday at the mall.
Tumblr media
First up, an eight minute walk to General Porpoise, the donut place Linzy discovered through an app called Pou (I think). She had the lemon curd donut, I had the chocolate & marshmallow donut, and Kimmer had her coffee, black, to start the day.
By the way, just the dough part of the donut without the chocolate and marshmallow was pretty tasty. I could've had that donut plain, it was so good.
Afterward, we walk back to the Village, knowing we're gonna end up at Piatti's for...
Lunch?
Nope. For dinner. We just had breakfast, for crying out loud.

We continue on, just poking around, until we get to Fireworks Gallery which is basically a Collison-Ris trap. I was barely through the front door when I got sucked into an impromptu photo shoot of one of the display tables. Linzy 'n Kimmer managed to see more of the store, while the farthest I ended up was a few displays laterally from  the display table where I found an adorable Advent calendar they call Traveling Advent Calendar: Rudolf.
Totally want it for December.
😄
After that (and because Linzy hadn't had her coffee yet) we went for coffee 'n a breakfast sandwich at Mr. West Cafe Bar. Only...
One of their machines was down so they couldn't make the drink Linzy was after just then. We did score a coupla egg & cheese on croissants, though.  😇 😇 😇
For Linzy's coffee, then, we did the obvious: Starbucks. Where we strategized. For example, Linzy called Paint The Town, a ceramics place where she wanted the three of us to paint coasters.
Hour and a half, they said.
That would be the time it took for a table to become available for us.
So we got on the waiting list, Kimmer went over to Piatti's to get a reservation for us at a table in front of the fireplace. Linzy 'n I wandered across the way to Paper Source that's all about paper (of course), gifts, cards, games, books, and crafts.
Tumblr media
I don't know how long we were in there before Kimmer returned with a 615 reservation. And I don't know how long after that Linzy got buzzed by Paint The Town 'cause they were ready for us...
But they were ready for us and we had to jet, vowing, myself at least, to come back after the ceramics experience.
Tumblr media
So we did the ceramics experience, which was a lot of fun... as soon as I was able to not choke at the reality of a blank canvas.
In the end, I wound up doing a creativity quote (I pulled four words from "creativity is a wild mind and a disciplined eye" by Dorothy Parker) surrounding it with a riot of colorful lines and dots. Linzy did a riff on splintered geometry in pinks and purples. And Kimmer painted quadrants of flowers like a boss.
Seriously, they're quite lovely.

By the time we turned in our painted coasters for firing in a kiln, it was a little passed five. So we returned to Paper Source, moved on to The Art Study, winding up across the mall at H&M 'cause Linzy wanted a quick look.
After that, we headed over to Piatti's for dinner by way of the moved and remodeled Apple store which I had not yet seen.
Tumblr media
Brilliant food over at Piatti's for dinner, by the way, chasing it down with delicious wine.
And by the time we were done...
It was 730.
Tumblr media
Back at our place by eight, Kimmer put the finishing touches on Linzy's very lemon cake whilst Linzy 'n I watched movie trailers on YouTube. After which we walked over to Linzy's place for a birthday song, blowing out candles, savoring cake, and watching two episodes down toward the end of Only Murders In The Building, season 1.
By the time 10pm rolled by us, it was time for hugs 'n kisses 'n Happy Birthday my dear sweet girl.
Followed by goodnight!
Thus ending our family celebration of Linzy turning —
The age she just turned.

The Heraean Games by Prospero Piatti
The Heraea was an Ancient Greek festival in which young girls competed in a footrace. The race was held every four years at Olympia, and probably took place around the same time as the ancient Olympic Games.
