I´m curious to understand what led perfectly proper upper-class ladies of the mid to late 18th century to pose half-topless, especially when it comes to non-fantasy portraits. I wonder if this happened in pictures alone, or if it was equally usual in real life (as it was back in Agnes Sorel´s time). Not wanting to lie, I recently did a quick search and got something along the lines of "a suggestion of a nipple peaking through the decolletage being considered delicate and chic".

Dangerous Liaisons Daily - it’s official!

Friends, I have the pleasure to announce I have set up a substack dedicated to Dangerous Liaisons, the epistolary novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos.

I invite you to visit dangerousliaisonsdaily.substack.com and read the about page if you are curious about the book and the project.

I am currently busy with the reorganization of the letters - sending you letters day to day goes against the “novel” format of this book, as some letters aren’t in chronological order for a better dramatic effect. I’m studying the options to convey the text in the best way. I will play with the newsletter format I think. Then I’ll format the whole thing, in order for it to start in august.

I intend to propose both an english and a french version.

Avis aux lecteurs de dracula daily (ou aux amateurs de littérature française) :

Une personne a mis la même chose en place avec le roman épistolaire Les liaisons dangereuses de Choderlos de Laclos.

Ça vient de commencer aujourd'hui avec la "préface" du livre (qu'il faut absolument lire sinon mon prof de français de 1ere vous hantera jusqu'à ce que vous le fassiez).

Alors perso quand je l'ai eu en lecture obligatoire en 1ere ma première pensée a été 'et merde je vais pas arriver à le finir'. Que nenni mon ami, je l'ai commencé et je ne l'ai pas lâché de la journée. 2 jours plus tard c'était fini et j'attendais mon prochain cours de français avec impatience.
