also it makes me sad that so many supposed leftists think the answer to 'there is an imbalance in who suffers and who doesn't" is "redistribute the suffering to the people I don't like", not "try to make it so no one has to suffer"

It's extremely punitive-justice oriented but they'd have a ragefit if you told them how carceral their logic is

My sister's best friend, we'll call her Willow, is Jewish. She was one of the first Jews I considered part of my family and I still do today.

I told her I was converting, and she sent me back a lovely sweet message full of kindness and warmth that made me cry!! Then she asked for pics if I get a chance to do anything for Purim.

I wasn't actually planning on it under the (possibly foolish) logic that I shouldn't because my classes haven't started yet and I'm technically still not a conversion student, but she's like the third person who has told me I should totally do something for Purim so I'm thinking I might try to make some cookies after all 💖

I've never made hamantaschen before, but I love baking and I haven't made dessert in a while (I've been making a lot of pumpkin-banana breakfast breads recently). Hopefully they'll turn out okay and I'll have pictures to report back with!!

These people are behaving in a way that's harmful to themselves and others and they need compassionate care that will teach them how to behave in ways that are NOT harmful to themselves and others.

(Including the trolls. Something is off in your life, some need is not being met, when you think harassing strangers and pretending to be mentally ill is the height of comedy. whether that's another mental illness or just being someone whose whose needs are inadequately met, the needs are still inadequately met.)

not submission. I really hate the "My OC, my rules" thing. Cause like, no? Just because they are your oc doesn't mean you can do whatever you want with them. If you want to make your oc suffer and not like them get help, you deserve to lose rights over them. Especially if you only do that stuff to purposely trigger people. Once you do that, your oc no longer belongs to you. they belong to the public who will take better care of them instead

Meet Pudding 🍮

They're a hoary headed grebe who was found crashed on a road near the tip (dump/junkyard for u non-Australians), believed to be injured. I was called out and picked them up. Thankfully, I couldn't find any visible injuries, in fact the little guy was furious and kept trying to bite me (very cute, I was so intimidated).

Turns out grebes have "loon disease" aka "being so water adapted they can't take off from land". After realising this, I put Pudding in a bucket, where they looked much happier, drinking and preening.

[Video ID] the grebe is in a box as a gloved hand reaches to tip it towards the water. It scrabbles on the cardboard for a moment before plopping into the water of the pond. My voice offscreen, "Yay, bye bye grebe, don't get into any more salty water!" The grebe paddles off very quickly. [End ID]

After a few hours of observation and rehydration, Pudding was released in a nearby dam, where they quickly dove underwater and looked quite at home!

every day i think about how people domesticated pigeons and then casted them aside as “pests” when they’re so loving and gentle. they love humans, they don’t know why but they do. to this day they need our help, iirc they still can’t even properly build their own nests, for they were bred to be human companions and live with us. they flock to human populated areas because these small, gentle souls are attached to ours. they have nothing but love and comfort.

the fact some people think of them as nasty things, call them lazy for not knowing how to build proper nests, and hurt them breaks my heart heart.

I live about fifteen to twenty minutes outside the city of Boston, in a fairly busy suburb.

I've seen a coyote in my neighbor's yard.

It never occurred to me that this was yet another americanism. 😂

I want to take a cooking class.

I have a lot of dietary restrictions (I can't eat egg whites, tomatoes or legumes of any kind without getting extremely sick; it's a mast cell fuckery thing but when you live in Boston and you can't eat eggs whites, soy or tomatoes you kinda can't eat most food that exists especially if it's prepackaged).

I'm kinda nervous about whether I'll be physically able to keep kosher, although I do plan to at least try (and I know the rules around keeping kosher explicitly make allowances for this kind of thing which helps a lot).

But looking into it, I think it's not as big of an issue as I was worried it might be. It seeks like the bigger problem might be more that so much middle eastern food is legume-forward. I miss hummus and tamarind and peanuts and lentils and soy so much, guys, you don't even know, sob.

Which is why I want to take a class! I've already been saving recipes that I stumble across, and I've discovered there's actually a fair amount of overlap in Jewish-American and Irish-American diaspora foods (beef and cabbage and root veggie stew my beloved), which is really neat. I want to research more about that historical cultural intersection as part of my process anyway, and there's something really human and kind about sharing food with each other that I just Like A Lot.

I'm rambling a little at this point so I'll close it out here for now, but if anyone has any thoughts I'd love to hear them 💜

Does Mavis drink coffee?

If so what kind? And if this applies to all her variants?

Mavis really enjoys coffee, she just can’t drink it often. She has a heightened sensitivity to caffeine, and too much of it puts her into overdrive in the worst way possible, leaving her feeling pretty awful. It doesn't take much. She favors medium roast coffees, and if given the option, will get a latte or cappuccino.

(She has only tried a few things since her options are limited in 'cannon'. She has also yet to try decaf)

Her preferences and sensitivity may differ slightly between her variations, such as Wasteland Mavis having a much higher tolerance, but most have at one point or another at least tried it.
