god Emma subtext is something I enjoy thinking about so much. in Ep03, from context clues, we can assume Bowie (pretty much admits it) and Emma (subtextually) vote for MK since she was a sarcastic bully, and not Nichelle, who essentially messed up the challenge. because Emma’s way too into forgiving people and giving them a second chance, in this case Nichelle

later in Ep04, we have the option to believe MK reviewed previous footage, including votes, and knows Bowie and Emma voted for her, which can add to how snippy MK was to Emma at the end of the episode. but despite Emma being mad at MK, she blindly agrees to MK’s plan (probably injuring herself in the process) and professes her belief that MK was [one of] the reasons they won the challenge. despite Emma not trusting MK prior, Emma’s way too into forgiving people and giving them a second chance, in this case MK

one can only assume by Ep11, when Emma was mad at Bowie for allegedly voting off Chase, if Bowie lied and apologized that he did, I have the strangest belief that Emma would have instantly forgiven Bowie and apologized herself for snapping. because Emma’s way too into forgiving people and giving them a second chance, in this case Bowie (who ftr, I do believe is justified, fuck Chase, Bowie’s right to be mad at both of them)

Emma’s overly strong sense of empathy and forgiveness is a very potent character flaw and god it breaks my heart thinking about it being exploited in the upcoming season

About That Damn Cat… and why it’s great for TD

So Jadis/Anne’s secret dossier turned out to be hidden inside a sculpture of a cat.

This is an obvious callback to the cat sculpture we saw Jadis/Anne work on back in TWD 8x6 The King, The Widow And Rick.

Back when it aired, I thought of it as a representation of the “nine lives” symbolism around cats. Cats are said to have nine lives, and while that seems a little exaggerated, cats do have a tendency to land on their feet, even after falling from heights that could easily have killed them. There's obviously a lot of resurrection symbolism in the term, and Carol used it about herself after having survived a situation in season 3 when she could have died. She had been overrun by walkers inside the tombs of the prison, and only survived because T-Dog, who was already bitten, sacrificed himself to save her. She was "gone" for some days, before Daryl eventually found her. I wrote about it here.

We didn't know that Rick would temporarily leave the franchise at the time when the cat sculptures occurred, but when we later found out, I assumed the cat symbolism had been introduced around him to support his “death and resurrection” arc, and I feel like that has been thoroughly confirmed now.

Interestingly, Jadis’ cat sculpture from 8x6 was in reality foreshadowing a different but similar type of feline that we were to see a couple of seasons later, namely a green(e) Jaguar:

Because in 8x11, Dead Or Alive Or, we saw Father Gabriel and Dr. Carson escape from imprisonment at the sanctuary. Father Gabriel was sick, Dr. Carson feared he had an infection of the optical nerve, and demanded they’d find antibiotics immediately, before the infection spread and potentially killed him.

Now, before I elaborate, let me demonstrate why Jadis’ cat sculpture from 6x8 and the green(e) Jaguar from 6x11 are inextricably linked:

Her cat sculpture and the Jaguar logo are quite literally the exact same.

8x11 Dead Or Alive Or is a really interesting episode. Father Gabriel and Dr. Carson’s storyline is full of symbolism, and I’ve written about it several times before, such as here.

This was the episode where Father Gabriel lost his sight on one eye and became a Sirius figure, but there was so much more. For starters, Dr. Carson stepped into an animal trap, just like Beth did in 4x13 Alone:

And while we in 4x13 Alone had the Sirius piggyback…

…in 8x11 we had a Sirius Piggy-Bank:

Let me remind you that radios are Sirius symbolism because of its connotation to Sirius Satellite Radio (I've talked about it in many posts, here's a real old one). Ham radio is a term for short band amateur radio. Remember, when Jadis/Anne met Father Gabriel in TOWL 1x5 Become, he mentioned having tried to reach her on Eugene's ham radio.

A piggy bank (an obvious play on the word "piggyback", as in the Sirius piggyback from Alone), marked with the text Ham Radio, is evidence of the symbolism around "pigs" having everything to do with the Sirius symbolism.

And Beth is surrounded by references to pigs, such as the aforementioned Sirius Piggyback, but also the pigs feet from Alone, seen in the center of this pic:

...as well as the Guinnea Pig from 5x4 Slabtown:

...and now also the Sirius Piggy-bank from 8x11, which accidently broke, revealing a set of car keys and a map:

And Voila! We now officially have tied the Sirius symbolism to the pig symbolism to the car symbolism (think Trunk Resurrection)

Other pig references worth mentioning are the references to pigeons in TWDDD. Obviously, they're not actual pigs, and clearly, neither are Guinnea Pigs. But they have "pig" in the name, and they merge with the Bluebird symbolism I've talked about at length in multiple posts, such as here. And I should also mention the Crowned Victoria Pigeon, which I talked about here.

My hypothesis is that the pig symbolism ultimately points to the similarities between Rick and Beth, and the identical resurrection symbolism around them. Rick is a police officer, and "pig" is a derogatory term for "police". We've seen the term used in this sense both in TWD and in the spin-offs. And Beth is encompassed by this symbolism because she's "the new sheriff in town", "crowned" by none other that Rick Grimes himself.

Back to the cat symbolism. We've seen the cat theme around Rick and Michonne before, it's sort of their thing:

I do believe the cat symbolism ultimately points to the "nine lives" symbolism and means "resurrection" in a general sense, as seen with Carol in season 3. However, I'm convinced the cat sculpture, in which Michonne found the dossier, more specifically points to the green(e) Jaguar from 8x11 and the symbolism that's directly tied to Beth, to the Sirius symbolism that allowed Father Gabriel to survive:

"You're fighting a Sirius infection"...

Finally, let's discuss the dossier itself. Let's turn to my favorite trick to decipher TWDU symbolism; etymology. What does the word "dossier" really mean?

What do you know, it's derived from the Latin word for "back".

"Back", as in "return", "resurrection", as in the Sirius piggyBACK, as in BACKpack. And if you're familiar with my theories, you know I'll say it means "back", as in Latin "dorsum" (as the etymology describes), which incidently is pretty much the same as the back of the human upper body, the TRUNK. Meaning, we've circled back to TRUNK symbolism.

Or, how about "back" as in "the back/trunk of a car, such as the trunk that many of us believe Beth was left in after Coda...

...or how about, as a metaphor for the aforementioned trunk that Beth potentially was left in, the BACK of the green(e) Jaguar, where Dr. Carson examined Father Gsbriel's eye-sight, after establishing what a Sirius situation they were in...

If I remember correctly, Jadis/Anne first referred to the dossier as a "note" in one of the earlier episodes, before it explicitly became a "dossier" in 1x5 Become.

And forgive me for going full Negan with vulgar metaphors here, but I wouldn't be doing "delusional" right if I didn't mention how the dossier quite literally came out of the uh.. the "ass end" of the cat sculpture, as Joe Claimer would have put it...

An AU fic set a year after the events of RE5. This fic is like what Capcom did with the story lines of RE2/3: this and Teaching piggy back off each other taking place at the same time. It is Nemesis' take on his time with BSAA but with a twist - it explores the realm of his dreams and memories.

Events from the immediate, to events in RE3 (lightly re-imagined), to further in his past are brought to light showing where his thought process came about.

He is not written to be a hero or well-liked (he was created for the express purpose of killing after all): he'll have his moments ranging from the tragic to the more unforgivable. But in the end, the parallels will become more and more clearer as the fic progresses on.

This fic will explore darker themes and topics: it will basically not shy away from nor sugar coat the violent or suggestive situations within. ________________________________________________ Excerpt from TDS: Prologue- Like a caduceus, fates twine and twine again unable to disentangle, unable to separate and live without the other. The White Room looms; a stark white cage filled with only the most dangerous of prisoners. The one who currently sat within was no exception. If anything this one wasn't wanted wasn't accepted – the room was it powerful enough to cage him? He has been in various cages before, many of concrete, of glass, of drugs, of mind – all of them with a layer of gilding to distract from the truth of their purpose to contain.  But the White Room was the most gilded of all. For it not only contained his body but the mind. The White Room was the gilding, a pretty location that made him feel he had a place. The room was a shell of what truly contained him; like the parasite that roamed in the shell of a Tyrant, the White Room wasn't his true cage.  She was. Jailer, owner, tyrant.  And he could do nothing but rail against it. Nothing but fight and fail each time. Fight and flee into dreams. Unlike the other cages he lived, sat in, this jail did not require prodding, or violence, or examination. It just required him. And her. And this made it all the more uncomfortable. Do monsters sleep?

He twisted on the too small cot, still awake, still staring up at the wall. His eye wandered to the door, the only way out and into his small white prison. Her scent came through the padded door; he knew she was there. But what use is to run over there when in the end she's still out of reach?  Out of reach in mind and body. Not that it should matter. It shouldn't. Eventually, he'll have the strength to tear this toy off of him. Eventually… But her scent, it's so cloying, so close. He could taste her. He tossed again facing back to the wall. He shouldn't want her like this. Killing a pig is the only option. Humans deserve no more, no less. Too weak, unworthy. This one, this one doesn't command, shouldn't command…This lone female actively fights him. He should hate this. He should. He should be the master, not the dog. Then how come I… like it? I must be honest, I really thought to myself, there really is no reason to do a Roasted this upcoming week. Auburn has an off week, so everyone will be at home watching games and enjoying a fantastic weather weekend and a really long week of stress and long nights. Ol Hugh, with the help of former Tiger Malik Willis, has the Liberty Flames ranked and undefeated at 6-0 and ranked for the first time in recorded history. Most detractors would point out that the Flames schedule was somewhat weak and a 2 point win over FIU did give off the biggest confidence boost. However, a win over Syracuse was a nice touch but the clock seemed about to strike midnight on the Flames with a trip to Blacksburg, VA this weekend.

The Hokies and the Flames went back and forth in a great game that you should really sit down and watch if you get a chance, but after both teams scored TDs in the last two minutes to knot things up at 35, Liberty got the ball just over mid field to try for a 59 YARD FIELD GOAL! Summer 2018

Dear Friends,  It saddens me deeply to report that The West Letter has lost its canine correspondent and assistant editor, Maximilian West, aka Max. The picture above was taken at the corner of Ave. Melville and Blvd. de Maisonneuve in Montreal, bordering Westmount Park, last June 2nd. He had been visiting friends and clients with his master.  A day later he was back in Kingston. It was a lazy Saturday. Max began this last day as he always had, going for the morning walk -- albeit at a very sedate pace, befitting his 15 years -- and accompanying his master on the usual errands about town in the back of the Maxmobile. It was warm and sunny and he spent most of the afternoon snoozing contently in the yard. That evening he struggled getting up the porch steps. But he still tucked into his supper gamely and lay at his master’s feet for the duration of a postprandial movie.  When It came time to call it a day, for the first and only time in his adult life, Maximilian West was unable to mount the stairs to the second floor.  His master picked him up and carried him like a baby, setting him down by the bed on his favourite sheepskin rug.  And that is where he was the next morning, in perfect repose.  Alas, too perfect.   

WHO?

Who came into this world in the winter of 2003 and was abandoned as a defenceless puppy along with his beautiful mama and brothers and sisters in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts?

Who, as a teddy-bear-sized ball of fluff, caught his master-to-be’s eye at the shelter on the banks of Riviere du Nord, and soon won his heart? Who was dismissed by the Napoleonic obedience school director as “damaged goods; untrainable; you should ask for your money back”? Who graduated summa cum laude at that same school? Who, nonetheless, for the first years of his life had a chip on his shoulder, and needlessly terrorized more than one lovely hostess, up to and including physically blocking her from entering her own home? Who, with German Shepherd and Border Collie bloodlines, was fiercely loyal to, and protective of, his family, no stranger at the door avoiding the big bowwow treatment?  And herded the children and other dogs like sheep? Who teased the boys -- Allen, Harry and Pablo -- endlessly, loving nothing more than a game of piggy in the middle or hey-I-have-your-mitten-now-try-to-catch-me?   Who had an astonishingly extensive mastery of English and Spanish commands, and even a smattering of French? Who was equally adept at interpreting his master’s hand signals and body gestures … even the wink of an eye or a nod?   And who had his own repertoire of canine language commands and gestures – a flick of the leash, a rattling of a dish, a cold nose protruding into an early morning bed? Who could leap tall fences in a single bound? Who wandered off into a farmer’s field and upon encountering cows for the first time, calmly proceeded to herd them back to his startled master … And decided there was no better way to celebrate his new-found talent than to dive ecstatically into a fresh green cow pie? Who had a morbid fear of water and apart from the cow pie incident, never had a bath in his life?   Who famously said to his Piscean master: “If I had been meant to swim, I’d have been born with webbed toes, n’est-ce-pas?” Who, despite his fear of water, was quite at home on many a sailing or canoe voyage, always with the proviso that his master was at the helm? Who slept at the side or the foot of his master’s bed every night of his life, no different than the dogs of English knights memorialized in brass? Who, as a puppy, devoured half the furniture in the apartment, including Great Grandmother’s sumptuous Victorian settee (it being retrieved with an extravagant reupholstery job)? Who could sniff a treat-bearing lady at a hundred paces, and invariably seduce her of her bounty with a sly charm? And as a corollary, who was far too well-mannered to beg, unless you count infinitely patient, beseeching eyes? Who was the dog world’s pickiest eater, a true gourmet, not a gourmand, perfectly content to walk away from a partially eaten bowl of the tenderest vitals? Who was so well trained, he didn’t need a leash and would never waste his time or effort chasing a squirrel across the road or a seagull along the shore? Who greeted a parade of innocent mailmen over the years with a reception worthy of Attila the Hun? Who, ever the jealous lover, begrudgingly accompanied his master in and out of bachelorhood, often in the beginning barely tolerating female competition in his domain? And as an instance of same, who, with a chaperone’s reproach, would busily park himself between a romantic candidate and his master, and if that tactic failed, would go into a high dudgeon for days, sulking under the table? And yet, who came to adore his mistress of the past six years, and shower her with loyalty and devotion? Who accompanied his master in the Maxmobile on nearly all his road trips … to Montreal, Chicago, Brantford, Toronto, New York, Prince Edward County and Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard, not to mention daily errands, always supremely comfortable and happy at his command post in the back of the wagon? Who never got up on the plush living room furniture, except for those few thousand times that his master wasn’t looking? Who, for the past 13 summers was the adoptive mascot of a group of swimmers known as the Mermaids, and attended to their immersion into, and emergence from, Lake Ontario nearly every day of each of those summers? And who, in particular, was befriended by and doted on and spoiled by Mermaid Peggy, and even enticed by her siren wiles and treats to enter the water up to his withers?!! Who, from youngest days, had Latin rhythm and loved to dance (bailar!), up on his hind legs to cumbia, salsa, merengue, son cubano y mucho más, until in old age those legs began to give out? Who was a contributing editor to an investment newsletter (The West Letter) and cultivated a following that rivaled his master’s?   Who was also surprisingly well-read and the creator of Canada’s Canine Lit List, top picks including Jack London’s The Call of the Wild, Conan Doyle’s The Hound of the Baskervilles and Mark Haddon’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time? Who was the face that launched a new pet food company in Montreal, and complained that celebrity wasn’t all it was cracked up to be? “My master negotiated what seemed like an OK contract at the time.  I was paid in the new product, of course, not royalties. So … sigh … retiring to the stud farm is still looking like a distant proposition.” Who, once he knocked that chip off his shoulder, was his master’s superb four-legged ambassador …  not only on walks, but when receiving visitors, hosting parties and as a grateful houseguest, making friends wherever he went? Who took demented cousin Bob at the Helen Henderson Care Centre under his wing on Saturday morning visits, quickly learning to heel to Bob’s erratic wheelchair progress up and down the hallways?   And along the way became the unofficial therapy dog of the residence, sitting patiently at their sides as affection-starved souls petted and stroked and asked if they could give the doggie a treat? Who wagged his spectacular blond tail from side to side like a regal fan? And left a hole in his master’s heart? Who is Maximilian West.

YEAR-END REPORT CARD Class of 2018: No Surprises, Steady Performance  “Neat but not gaudy” is the Headmaster’s summation of the Class of 2018′s  year over year (July 1 ‘17 to June 30 ‘18) average gain of 6.6%. Over the same period, the TSX and S&P 500 were up 7.2% and 12.1% respectively.  

The Headmaster says there is no reason for class members to take umbrage and commends them for their cautious, no-drama progress in choppy seas.  The worst performer in the class, Enbridge, was only down 9%.  To add perspective: over the past five years, the class annual return has averaged 10.3% versus 6.1% for the TSX and 11.1% for the S&P 500.  If some class members are temporarily out of favour with the market, it is not a concern of the Headmaster.  “Value will always out.”         As for the sizzle this year ... Information Technology stocks once again went to the head of the class, with outstanding performances from Apple, Open Text and Visa.  For all the sector by sector details, please read on.   Financials - B  TD Bank, Royal Bank and Bank of Nova Scotia produced an average return of 3.6%.  With double digit earnings growth and handsome dividend increases, averaging 9%, you’d think they might have received more market recognition.  Ah well, all the more reason to keep them in the class for the return of that swinging pendulum. Promoted. Resources - B plus  Class veterans Vermilion Energy and Nutrien (the former Agrium, merged with Potash Corp) more than made up for Enbridge’s travails. The threesome posted an average 9.8% gain, fueled by rising commodity markets in energy and agriculture, and excellent execution of their business plans. Nutrien, in particular, is to be commended for being well ahead of schedule in wringing massive savings out of its operations as a result of the merger. They go right to the bottom line.  Enbridge is at last emerging from the cloud it has been under since its purchase of the US pipeline company Spectra. Worries of unsustainable debt and potential dividend cuts have been put to rest with a string of non-core asset sales that have delivered balance sheet and investor relief. The stock has been on a tear since it bottomed in April. The Headmaster expects more of the same to come.  All promoted. 

   Infrastructure - C plus Brookfield Instructure Partners Limited took an expected pause this year, having disposed of some Brazilian assets, the temporary lack of which, have put the brakes on cash flow growth. Happily however, the excess capital is being redeployed and CEO Sam Pollock sees no reason to stray from Brookfield’s stated long term target of 12 to 15% returns on invested capital, not to mention a generous distribution increasing at about 8% per annum.  The company’s Class of 2018 performance was -4.9%. The Headmaster is far from perturbed and has full confidence in the medium and long term prospects for Brookfield. Promoted.  Retail - B minus Class bench-mates Alimentation Couche Tard and Metro are perfect examples of how sometimes the markets can be out of synch with reality on the ground.  To wit: this pair had earnings per share growth of 17.5% and 4.8% respectively and boosted their dividends by 10 and 11%. Their track records and prospects are exemplary.  Yet their average stock performance over the past year was -3.4%.  Once again the Headmaster notes: “The pendulum will swing back to value.”  All promoted.  Industrials - B plus  Class seniors CNR, John Deere and global packaging player CCL, each produced admirable, double-digit earnings and dividend growth over the school year, despite various headwinds in their respective businesses.  The trio’s average stock gain, 4.5%, would have been more in line with earnings growth, but for CCL taking one of its familiar breathing spells, pending the next transformative acquisition.  The Headmaster is sanguine and sees much promise ahead.  All promoted.  Healthcare - A The Headmaster’s continued faith in his unloved healthcare class members was borne out in spades. Amgen, Johnson and Johnson and Express Scripts racked up earnings gains in stellar fashion, and were rewarded commensurately by the market with an average stock advance of 19.8%.  Bravo and promoted!   Telecom - C minus There is no room for sentiment in managing a class of stocks.  The Headmaster can no longer justify the anemic returns of that friend of widows and orphans,  BCE. True, as long as its generous dividends are sustainable, there will be a place for BCE in many portfolios.  But the Headmaster wants more than dividends. The evidence for same just isn’t there.  BCE, by the kinds of industry measures that count -- e.g., customer “churn” (turnover rate), average annual revenue and lifetime revenue per customer, and resultant cash flow growth -- is falling consistently short of its rival, Telus. The market recognized this disparity last year, awarding Telus with a 4.3% gain, and punishing BCE with an 8.8% loss.  While acknowledging yeoman’s service in years gone by, the Headmaster has asked BCE to leave the class, based on current and projected performance.  Conversely, Telus is promoted.      Information Technology - A plus Apple, Visa and their Canadian desk mate Open Text knocked the ball out of the park last year with average earnings per share and stock price gains of 27%.  Add to that heroic stock buybacks at Apple and Visa, and significant dividend hikes for all three, and you have a recipe for rare Headmaster contentment. All three promoted. To replace BCE, the Headmaster has ushered Microsoft into the Class of 2019.  There are a number of reasons to like Microsoft: the dependable cash flows spun off by its legacy Office and related software products; the successful move it has made into cloud-computing (second only to Amazon); but what really catches the Headmaster’s eye is CEO Satya Nadella’s determination to make Microsoft a major player in artificial intelligence (AI).  Nadella calls AI “the defining technology of our times” and wants to make sure that Microsoft is in line for more than a fair share of what prognosticators estimate will be a $4 trillion market by 2022. Microsoft currently has 8,000  scientists and engineers working in this strategic sector, and has already begun to incorporate the fruits of their labours into each of the company’s lines of business. “Smart move,” says the Headmaster, who values intelligence, artificial or otherwise.   Entertainment - B minus Disney over the past year continued to do exactly what one would expect of a one-of-a-kind leader in media and entertainment. It delivered the goods; i.e., growth in all the right places. Well, okay ... just about in all the right places. To Disney and the Headmaster’s frustration, there is still a knock against this class member for failure to make the transition from cable delivery of content to “streaming” fast enough. The stock languished with a return of -1.3%.   “Pshaw!” says the Headmaster. “I have full confidence in Bob Iger and the Disney management team. The pending takeover of the television and movie assets of 20th Century Fox only reinforces my view!”  He may have a point. TD Season 7 Mysteries & Eggs

Those of you who are feeling anxious about the finale spoilers and no mention of Beth - just repeat in your head these little mysteries that still don’t have closure: 

1. Boots has yet to be revealed on the show. This is a big one. There is no way in hell they introduced this mysterious character (in a post-credits scene no less) and kept them anonymous for 2 episodes only to have it revealed in a talk show quiz that it was a tertiary character who did not have a big reveal at all. Nope.   

2. Morgan’s emphatic line “Who’s the girl?” to Benjamin when he tells Morgan a girl helped him with the bullfighter painting.  If you aren’t going to show her, why the fuck does it matter?  Because it does...”It does matter.” Yeah I shamelessly sneaked that Beth quote in there.   : )   

3. Daryl’s ongoing wardrobe parallels. They are still doing the black/white shoe laces that call back to Beth’s converses in Grady. Now there is an empty patch over his left breast pocket (aka HEART IS MISSING). And of course...the recent knife thing, which even if it isn’t technically Beth’s knife it is a huge call back to it and perhaps a reminder that her actual knife is still hidden like its owner. 

4. Daryl’s depressed character arc. I still think they must be tying his arc to Beth’s because he has not progressed in any way since her death. Casual viewers are really starting to dislike his character and the writers because of this. So why aren’t they sucking him up already instead of beating him down with deaths and torture? If someone dies, Daryl is 90% likely to be there/be involved. His light has to come from somewhere...soon.   

5. That damn romance novel. The stock photo of the piggy back couple on the romance novel Carol was reading was a sneaky callback to Bethyl. Doesn’t matter if it was Carol that was reading it, Beth and Daryl did the piggy back and Daryl made the comment about the “damn romance novel” in connotation to Beth.  Serious piggy back indeed...serious enough for TPTB to make call backs to events 3-4 seasons ago!   

Regardless of what happens in the finale, this is not the end for TD. Plus, give yourselves a pat on the back, I have never encountered such an intelligent, creative, dedicated group of fans. At least our hobby involves critical thinking!

Episode 10x11 “Morningstar”: Sirius, the star that returns just before dawn...

SIRIUS AND MORNINGSTAR

A theme in all of my theories has been how TPTB like to utilize synonymous symbols, for example how the symbols «bear» and «beer» really means  the same, and they are utilized in similar ways in TPTB’s use of symbolism. For example, both «beer» and «bear» ultimately points to the North Star, and it ultimately means «home».  I’ve  written about it elsewhere, so I won’t get into it here. The way it works is that one symbol alone does not tell the full story. It is  the symbols together that act like a secret language, where words make up sentences, and several symbols together can tell complex stories. The Sirius symbolism tells one such complex story. It’s been a long story, it started in 4x12 «Still», but now were about to see that story come to its fulfillment, and I suspect these next few weeks will be glorious for TDers!

The Sirius symbolism is without a doubt what I’ve talked about the most in terms of TD symbolism. It took a couple of seasons for me to figure out which direction of  TPTB wanted to take it, but I never doubted that I was on to something important, because TPTB consistently left enough breadcrumbs for me to follow, and there was no way they all could’ve been coincidences. I’ve written a master post on my interpretation of the Sirius symbolism here:

Since I’ve written so extensively on it earlier, I won’t go into detail, but the bullet points go something like this: Sirius is the brightest star on the night sky Sirius is affectionately called «the Dog Star» (hence all the dog symbolism around Beth) Sirius means «scorching, glowing» Sirius disappears from the night sky for a time, it’s «just gone»… Sirius eventually returns to the nights sky, it re-appears «just before Dawn» Sirius is therefore called «The Morningstar».

Try to put yourself in my shoes for one second. I’ve been tracking the Sirius symbolism for literal years, I’ve written tens of thousands of words on it, and even if I sometimes get super exited over «finds», or «evidence» I also spend a lot of time in self doubt, wondering where this symbolism is supposed to go. Because unless it actually goes somewhere, its useless. Sure, I believe in what I’ve found, and in recent years I’ve had the pleasure of sharing this theory with other brilliant theorists, and engaging in discussions with them, discussing it and enhancing the theories with the help of exeptionally creative people, and if they find it credible, then I shouldn't feel so much self doubt about it, right?

But I always feel that it needs to go somewhere. When will it culminate? When will it be fulfilled?

Well, I believe the time has come! I believe the Sirius symbolism will be fulfilled in a spectacular way real real soon. And this is why:

Episode 10x11 is called………»MORNINGSTAR»!!!

After all the Sirius symbolism we’ve had around Beth (and Rick) since s4, we will now, in just a few weeks, get an episode that will actually canonically be called «Morningstar». Remember, Sirius IS the Morningstar, it re-appears just before dawn after having been «just gone» for some time…

(originally it was Venus that was thought to be the Morningstar. However, Venus is a planet, not a star. It appears at dusk as well as at dawn, but mostly, its not the Morningstar because it’s a planet. Venus has a fascinating history in history, literature and mythology though, and I might do more on it at some point)

I became aware of the Sirius symbolism after 4x13, after watching the now legendary Sirius piggyback.

I observed the Frosty Cola on the kitchen table, serving as a massive hint towards the «Sirius» poems of Robert Frost, And interestingly, just before Siddiq was murdered in 10x7,  TPTB gave us one of the most famous Robert Frost quotes in existence; «I’ve got miles to go before I sleep» It foreshadowed Siddiq’s death, but on a happier note, it also provided evidence that the Sirius symbolism was still at play, so many seasons later. Not that I ever doubted it, but its always nice to get confirmation.

THE 10X10 CLOCK FROM «SLABTOWN»

The 10x10 clock from «Slabtown» is probably the single most anticipated piece of symbolism in the TD fandom ever. But I want to officially throw out there that I believe the really groundbreaking symbolic gem will occur in 10x11 «Morningstar». And here’s why:

I’ve  written thousands of words on the 10x10 clock over the years, and so has other brilliant theorists in the fandom such as @twdmusicboxmystery​ @angelthefirst1​ @bethgreeneprevails​ and @wdway​ to name a few, as well as a large number of anonymous contributors. However, as much as I have been anticipating episode 10x10, I’m starting to believe that the correct way to interpret the «Slabtown» clock is to think of it as pointing towards episode 10x11 «Morningstar» rather that towards 10x10.

In other words, I believe the 10x10 clock from «Slabtown» points  to episode 10x11, not 10x10.

Allow me to explain. In «Shane’s «22» necklace» theory, I talked a lot about different ways of interpreting the «Slabtown» clock. I discussed how it can be interpreted as pointing towards episode 2x2, 2x10, 10x2, 10x10.

Obviously these episode numbers consists of various combinations of the numbers on the 10x10 «Slabtown»clock. Read it here if you want:)

In addition, the number «22» is interesting, as «22» is a different way of writing 10PM. Of course, I want to tie it to the theory I wrote on Shane’s «22» necklace.

But first and foremost, in my opinion it’s Noah's t-shirt that primarily foreshadows 10x11 as an important TD episode. Link to noah’s T-shirt theory here:

Remember Noah's t-shirt? A stylized version of the Blue Heron bird seen behind both Rick and Beth? The bird that I believe ultimately represents survival, rebirth, salvation-via-helicopter?

Noah's t-shirt also had the mysterious writing «One One Recording Studio» on it. And this is the important part; «One One» can be interpreted simply as «2»!

Or….»11»!

And if this is starting to seem a bit technical with a bunch of random numbers, please don’t give up on me just yet, there will be a point to all of this! The «one one» on Noahs t-shirt is not random, far from it! It’s super significant !

Remember the fire truck that Abe and friends found, and used to drive towards Washington DC back in 5x5 «Self Help»? They conveniently found it  in a building that had a giant «102» written on it. The fire truck itself had «82» written on it. It foreshadowed the Blue Heron painting seen behind Rick in 8x2, and it was one of the first instances of foreshadowing fulfilled that I discovered myself. I wrote about it in «Noah's t-shirt theory».

But my point this time around, is that I suspected that there could be several ways of interpreting the «82» on the fire truck. It could clearly also point to 8x11, because obviously «11» consists of two «ones», or «one one» as Noah's t-shirt said.

And 8x11 actually turned out to be a treasure trove of this particular brand of Sirius symbolism that ’m looking for.

Remember in Robert Frost’s original poems about Sirius he describes Sirius as a «…heavenly overlord with a star in its eye». Sirius was referred to as a one-eyed dog because of the celestial maps used at the time, had the constellation “Canis Major” depicted with a star in one eye (Sirius), giving the impression of being a one-eyed dog.

TPTB played into this impression of Sirius as a one-eyed dog by having the scruffy one-eyed dog come visit Beth and Daryl in 4x13 «Alone». Sirius as a one-eyed dog is canon in TWD-verse.

So, back to  8x11. We watched Father Gabriel, almost blind due to an infection on the optical nerve, stumble his way across a virtual minefield of animal traps surrounding a dilapidated house that we later came to affectionately call the Radio Shack.

One, the Philly dude was wearing a sports team t-shirt with the number...yes...11 on the back. Also, much later it was indicated through a teaser that the Helicopter people had taken Rick to Philadelphia. Or at least that Philadelphia was involved in Rick’s new arc in some way.
