Pitch Perfect SpookFest 2022 - Day 1
Summary: Beca and Chloe's daughter, Sophie, is afraid of the dark. One night she wakes up screaming and tells her moms that she heard a monster under her bed. Beca looks under the bed and assures Sophie there is no monster under the bed. However, Sophie doesn't believe it and gets upset.
Fear of the Dark
Two-year-old Sophie Beale snuggled into Chloe's neck as she was carried up to her room.
"Light, mommy," Sophie said as Chloe started to enter the darkened room.
"I know, sweetie," Chloe said, flipping on the light switch. "Look, no more dark."
"No more dark," Sophie mumbled. "Dark is scawy."
"Don't worry, Soph," Beca said. "We'll always leave a light on for you."
Chloe laid Sophie down, and Beca grabbed a book.
"Do you want me or mommy to read to you tonight?" Beca asked.
"Mommy," Sophie said.
"I can't blame you, kiddo," Beca said. "I'd choose mommy every time."
Chloe smiled as she accepted both the book and a kiss from Beca.
"I love you, too," Chloe murmured against Beca's lips.
Twenty minutes later, Sophie was sleeping soundly. Beca and Chloe kissed her cheek and left Sophie's room.
"Are you ready for bed yet?" Chloe asked.
Beca smiled and took Chloe's hands in hers. "Yes, but not to sleep."
Chloe giggled and allowed Beca to lead her to their room.
Two hours later, Sophie sat up in bed and looked around; it was dark in her room. Sophie hated the dark. Her eyes widened when she heard something under the bed. She hugged her stuffed red panda to her.
"Mommy! Mama!" Sophie yelled.
Beca and Chloe both jumped up and ran to their daughter's room.
"What's wrong?" Chloe asked as she entered the room.
Beca ran to the bed and pulled the crying toddler into her arms.
"No dark," Sophie cried.
Chloe ran and switched the light on again.
"How did that get turned off?" Chloe mumbled.
"It's okay, Soph," Beca said, hugging the young girl to her. "Mommy and mama are here."
Sophie cried into Beca's chest as Chloe came and stood next to them.
"Did you have a bad dream, baby girl?" Chloe asked, rubbing Sophie's back.
Sophie shook her head and sniffled.
"No," Sophie said, hiccoughing. "Th-there's a mo-monster under my-my bed. I heared it."
Chloe wiped the tears from Sophie's face and smiled at her.
"Do you want mama to scare away the monster for you?" Chloe asked.
Sophie nodded and looked at Beca. "Mama? Pwease?"
"On it," Beca said, passing Sophie over to Chloe.
Beca kissed Sophie's cheek and then got down on her hands and knees to look under the bed.
"Go away, monster," Beca shouted. "Sophie doesn't want you here, so leave. Get out!"
Beca crawled around the bed as Sophie hugged Chloe and watched. Beca yelled for the monster to leave as she crawled all the way around the bed. She finally stood and went over to Sophie and Chloe.
"He's gone," Beca said. "I promise."
"You sure?" Sophie asked, looking around the bed.
"I'm sure," Beca said, smiling at Sophie. "Let's get you back to bed. It's late."
"No!" Sophie screamed, tightening her hold around Chloe's neck. "Dark is scawy."
Beca looked at Chloe, and Chloe looked back at her. They had a conversation with their eyes and nodded their heads.
"Do you want to sleep with mommy and mama?" Chloe asked.
Sophie just nodded, sniffling as Chloe wiped her tears away.
The little family left Sophie's room and started for Beca and Chloe's room.
"Check monsters?" Sophie asked Beca as they reached the door.
"You want me to check to see if there are monsters in our room?"
Sophie nodded again.
"Okay," Beca said. "You and mommy wait here, and I'll make sure there are no monsters, okay?"
"Kay," Sophie said.
Beca turned on the bedside lamp and made a big show of checking under the bed and around the room as Sophie watched from the doorway.
"We are monster-free," Beca said. "No monsters; I promise."
"Ready to go back to sleep?" Chloe asked as she carried Sophie to the bed.
"Yes," Sophie said.
Chloe laid Sophie down and climbed into the bed with her. She adjusted the covers and placed Sophie's stuffed red panda next to Sophie. Sophie pulled the stuffed red panda to her and moved her head to Chloe's chest.
"Goodnight, sweet girl," Chloe whispered as she kissed the top of Sophie's head.
"Night, mommy," Sophie mumbled and closed her eyes.
Two minutes later, Chloe looked down and saw that Sophie was asleep.
"She's out," Chloe whispered to Beca. "I'll leave the light on in case she wakes up."
"Okay," Beca whispered.
Beca kissed the back of Sophie's head, then leaned up to kiss Chloe.
"Goodnight, babe."
~~ Pitch Perfect SpookFest 2022 - Day 1 (#ppsf22.1) ~~
Beca's alarm ringing woke her the next morning. She reached over and turned it off, then yawned and stretched. Noticing the bedside lamp was off, she clicked it on and looked over, checking to ensure she didn't wake Chloe or Sophie. Sophie wasn't there.
"Sophie?" Beca said, lifting the blankets to see if she was hiding under them.
Sophie was not under the covers, and Beca reached over to shake Chloe awake.
"Chlo, wake up," Beca said. "Sophie's not here."
"What?!" Chloe yelled, jumping out of bed.
Chloe grabbed the blankets off the bed, frantically hoping she was just hiding from Beca.
"She's not here, Chloe," Beca said, trying to remain calm.
"Maybe she's in her room," Chloe said, running out of their bedroom.
She careened around the door and into Sophie's room.
"Sophie!?" Chloe cried. "Bec, she's not in here either!"
"I'll check the rest of the house," Beca called out as she ran for the stairs.
Beca was starting to panic as she ran through the house, calling out for Sophie. Not finding her, Beca ran back to Sophie's room. She stopped just inside the door when she saw Chloe sitting on the floor with her back against Sophie's bed, the tracks of her tears visible as she clutched Sophie's stuffed red panda to her chest.
"Sophie can't sleep without this," Chloe said, holding out the stuffed red panda Beca had given Sophie just a few months before. "She had it with her when we took her to our room last night."
Beca's heart broke at the sadness in Chloe's voice.
"Where, um, where did you find it?" Beca asked.
"Right here," Chloe said, patting the spot next to her as she looked down at the floor. "It was just lying here like it fell off her bed."
"Mommy?"
Chloe's head jerked up, and she looked at Beca. "Did you hear that? I think it came from the closet."
Chloe jumped up and rushed to the closet, throwing the door open. "Sophie? Baby, are you hiding from mommy and mama? Sophie?" Chloe was frantic as she looked back at Beca. "She's not here!"
Beca grabbed Chloe just before she collapsed to the floor.
"We should call-"
"Mommy? Mama? It's dark, and I'm afwaid. Where are you?"
Beca stopped and listened.
"Sophie?!" Beca screamed. "Say something so mama can find you?"
"I'm here, mama," Sophie said. "It's dark, and I'm afwaid."
Beca could hear the fear in Sophie's voice and stood and turned in place several times. Chloe remained seated on the floor, watching Beca.
"Soph? I need you to talk to me," Beca called out, moving to stand next to Sophie's bed. "I can't find you if I can't hear you."
"I'm here, mama," Sophie said, crying now.
Beca looked at the wall. She could have sworn Sophie's voice was coming from behind the wall. She stood with her ear to the wall and called out, "Sophie?"
"Mama?" Sophie said.
Beca jerked back from the wall.
"She's in the wall?" Beca muttered. "Chloe, she's in the wall!" she screamed.
"What?!" Chloe asked, scrambling to stand.
"She's in the wall," Beca said, frantically looking for something to break through the wall.
Beca couldn't find anything, so she started punching and tearing at the wall with her bare hands.
"Beca, stop!" Chloe yelled, grabbing Beca and trying to pull her back from the wall.
Beca slunk down to the floor with Chloe holding her. Beca held her hands out as she sobbed, tears streaming down her face.
"She's in the wall," Beca mumbled as Chloe held her and stroked her back. "I can hear her in the wall."
"It's okay, baby," Chloe murmured. "We'll get someone to get her out, okay?"
Beca sobbed louder. Sophie needed her, and she was failing her and Chloe.
~~ Pitch Perfect SpookFest 2022 - Day 1 ~~
Several hours later, after a trip to the ER, Beca was back home with both hands wrapped in bandages. She immediately ran to Sophie's bedroom to find several holes in the wall where Chloe had convinced the firefighters that had come because of her 9-1-1 call that they could hear Sophie in the wall. The firefighters began tearing into the wall as Beca was taken away to the hospital.
Chloe let Beca go to Sophie's room while she slowly made her way to their room. She lay on the bed and hugged the pillow as tears streamed down her face.
Meanwhile, Beca remained in Sophie's room.
"Mama!"
Beca stepped over some of the debris and stood staring at the wall.
"Mama! Help me!"
Beca felt so helpless. Her baby needed her, and she couldn't do anything to help her. Beca let out a frustrated scream and dropped to her knees.
Chloe covered her ears with the pillow so she couldn't hear Beca's screams. It was taking all she had to hold her own screams in.
"Mama!"
Beca could hear the fear in Sophie's voice. She was frustrated and looked for something to throw. She picked up one of Sophie's toys and let out a primal scream as she threw it at the wall. But, instead of hitting the wall and bouncing off, it disappeared into the wall.
"What the Hell?" Beca said, standing and wiping her eyes.
She went over to the wall and looked at it. She ran her hand down, and suddenly it disappeared into the wall. She pulled her hand back and dropped to her knees to look at the spot on the wall.
The toy suddenly came flying back out, just as Sophie's voice called out to her.
"Mama?"
"Mama's here, baby girl," Beca said. "I'm coming to get you. Stay where you are. Mama's coming."
Knowing she had to go after Sophie and unsure of what to expect, Beca bent down and stuck her hand through the wall again. When she reached in as far as her arm would go and nothing happened, she leaned down and put her head through the wall. It was dark and cold, but she pushed on, and soon her entire body made it through the wall.
Beca stood and let her eyes adjust to the dark as best she could. It was difficult to see anything more than a few inches in front of her. She could hear whistling and clicking noises. She shivered and looked around as her eyes adjusted to the dark.
"Mama!"
"I'm here, baby," Beca called into the darkness. "I'm here. Call out again so I can find you."
"Mama!"
Beca held her arms out in front of her and moved in the direction she thought Sophie was calling from. She jumped and screamed when her hand bumped into something.
"Sophie?"
"I'm here, mama!"
Beca pulled her hands back when Sophie's voice came to her from a distance. She inhaled sharply and kept moving through the dark, hoping she was moving toward Sophie.
"Mama."
Beca kept moving and calling out for Sophie. After what seemed like an eternity, she called out once again for Sophie.
"Mama," Sophie responded, and Beca knew she was close.
Beca reached out, and suddenly Sophie was in her arms. Tears fell down her cheeks as she hugged Sophie to her.
"Mama!" Sophie cried, hugging Beca as hard as she could.
"I got you, Sophie," Beca cried. "Mama's got you."
"I want to go home," Sophie cried. "It's dark, and I'm scawed. I want mommy."
"I know, baby," Beca said. "Just close your eyes and think of mommy. Mama's going to get you home to mommy, I promise."
Beca looked around and still couldn't see more than a few inches in front of her. Then, suddenly, a small point of light showed off in the distance.
"There's a light, baby," Beca said. "We're going to go to that light and find mommy, okay?"
"Kay, mama."
~~ Pitch Perfect SpookFest 2022 - Day 1 ~~
Chloe followed the same routine she'd followed for the past two years. She wrapped her robe around her and shuffled down the hall, stopping at the door to Sophie's room. She pressed her palm against the door before opening it and looking inside. Everything was exactly as it had been for the past two years.
Chloe crossed her arms and leaned her head and shoulder against the door jamb. She couldn't believe it had been two years ago today that she lost the two people who were her whole world.
As Chloe stood there, her mind wandered back to the week after Beca and Sophie had gone missing.
"What did you do to your wife and daughter, Mrs. Beale?" the detective asked. "Where are they?"
"I didn't do anything to them," Chloe said, her voice monotone as she held her head in her hands. "They just disappeared, and I don't know where they are."
"People don't just disappear into thin air," the detective said. "Things will go easier for you if you just tell us where they are."
"I don't know," Chloe cried. "If I knew where they were, I'd be with them right now."
Chloe shivered at the memory. If it hadn't been for her best friend, Aubrey, she would probably be in jail. Or a psychiatric hospital.
The police had no evidence of foul play in the disappearance of Sophie and Beca Beale, so Aubrey threatened to file a harassment suit against the LA PD if they didn't leave Chloe alone. After that, they had no choice but to send Chloe home and mark the case as unsolved. To this day, it was still unsolved.
Chloe prayed every day that Beca and Sophie would be found and brought home, but she was starting to give up hope of that ever happening.
Chloe shook her head and chuckled lightly. Home. It wasn't a home without Beca and Sophie; it was just a house. The two loves of her life were what made it home, and they were gone.
"Still," she muttered.
Chloe sighed and reached to close the door. She often felt bad that the room was in such disarray, but she couldn't bring herself to do anything about it. So she kept the door closed, hoping to hide the memories of the last place she saw her wife and daughter.
"Mommy?"
Chloe froze with her hand on the knob and listened. Her mind must be playing tricks on her as she thought she heard Sophie calling for her. She shook her head and started to pull the door closed.
"Mommy?"
The voice sounded closer, and Chloe shoved open the door, causing it to hit the wall.
"Sophie?" Chloe said as she heard a rustling sound near the head of Sophie's bed and looked over.
Chloe gasped; she couldn't believe what she was seeing. Sophie seemed to appear from thin air, coming from the wall and running toward her. Chloe dropped to her knees and grabbed Sophie to her; she was crying and laughing as she peppered Sophie's face with kisses.
"Oh, my baby," Chloe cried, hugging Sophie tight to her.
"Chlo?" Beca's voice pulled Chloe out of her joyful reunion with Sophie.
Chloe looked over to see Beca standing near the wall in the same spot Sophie had just come from.
"Oh, my God!" Chloe yelled. "Beca!?"
Chloe stood, still holding onto Sophie. She rushed over to Beca and grabbed her arm, pulling her into a hug.
"I did it, Chlo," Beca said, squeezing Chloe and Sophie as tight as she could, her hands clenching the back of Chloe's robe as tears ran down both their faces. "I got our Sophie back."
Chloe smiled the first real smile to adorn her face since Beca and Sophie went missing. She hugged Beca and Sophie tighter and kissed Sophie's cheek.
"I've missed you both so much," Chloe cried. "It's been the longest two years of my life."
"Two years?!" Beca cried, pulling back from Chloe. "That can't be right."
"It's true," Chloe said. "You and Sophie have been missing for two years, Beca."
"No," Beca said, confused. "Look at Sophie. She hasn't aged a day. Plus, it feels like we were only gone for a couple of hours."
Chloe looked closer at Sophie and realized Beca was right; Sophie looked exactly as she did when she disappeared down to wearing the same clothing. Clothing that fit the two-year-old perfectly.
"This doesn't make any sense," Chloe said, tears continuing to run down her cheeks. "I swear to you, Beca, I've been in a living hell for two years, not knowing where either of you were or when, or if, you'd be coming back."
Beca shook her head as she looked at the wall that transported her and Sophie to some weird dimension where about two hours had passed for them, but two years had passed outside the wall.
"I know this probably goes without saying, but we're moving," Beca declared.

Welcome to my Nightmare
Pitch Perfect SpookFest Day 2
A fluffy little Halloween tale!
According to Beca Mitchell, her best friend Chloe (with her soft, red hair... infinitely kind, piercing blue eyes... amazing body... and need to give people hugs and affection all the time), was the one person who brought her the most joy in her life.
After her parents’ divorce, teenaged Beca had decided to not let anyone in again because it was too painful when they inevitably let her down.
Except Chloe never had.
Ever.
And now Beca found herself sucked into the redhead’s perfection; which was so fucking scary, it was nightmarish!
“Here, I brought you a beer. You looked like you could use one when you came through the front door,” Chloe said as she bounced into Beca’s bedroom and dropped onto the bed next to her, handing her a yellow cup. She was dressed in short shorts and a tank top that left very little to the imagination. Not that Beca was looking or anything. Because ogling your incredibly gorgeous best friend would be creepy.
“But...” Beca looked at the cup she’d taken without thinking. “This is your special cup. Don’t YOU want to use it?”
“Meh,” the older woman shrugged, then leaned forward and kissed the brunette’s cheek. “You know I don’t mind sharing my cup with you.” She beamed a smile then and rested her head on Beca’s shoulder. “Now, want to tell me what’s going on?”
The younger woman blinked. “What do you mean?”
“I MEAN,” Chloe said pointedly. “That I know you better than you know yourself... and I know you love Halloween... but you’ve been squirreled away up here alone this evening while the rest of the Bellas have been finishing the decorating of the house. Something is clearly wrong.”
Beca immediately retreated behind her ‘I’m definitely not in love with Chloe’ wall. “Nothing’s wrong, Chlo.” I’m not in the least bit upset that you kissed that stupid guy at that stupid costume party last night, dammit! “I guess I’m just not feeling it so much this year.”
“Halloween is totally your favorite holiday. Why aren’t you feeling it?” The redhead tilted her head then. “Wait... are you missing Jesse?”
“NO!” Beca exclaimed, then cleared her throat sheepishly. “No... well... maybe I miss my friend, Jesse. But I don’t miss him as my boyfriend.”
“Good,” Chloe muttered but then quickly changed the subject as the brunette looked at her in surprise. “I think you should come downstairs and help me finish decorating the Halloween tree.”
Beca snorted. “Only Chloe Beale would feel the need to have a Halloween tree. I should have seen it coming.”
“Hey,” the redhead pouted playfully. “Be nice or I’ll take my cup back.”
“I don’t feel like being nice,” Beca said, descending into a sudden sulkiness that was ridiculously dramatic, even for her.
“Hey,” Chloe said again, this time gently. “I know there’s something wrong, Beca. You can talk to me, you know.”
“Actually...” the younger woman murmured. “I... I can’t talk to you about this. I’m sorry, Chloe.”
Light blue eyes lowered for a long moment, then lifted slowly. “You can tell me anything,” the older woman said. “Even if you might think it’s something I... may not want to hear.”
“Thing is...” Beca said slowly. “I really don’t think it IS something you’d want to hear.” I’m bisexual and in love with you. How’s that for a mic drop, Bestie?!
“God... sometimes you’re so...” Chloe got up off the bed, pacing agitatedly. “ANNOYING!”
“Annoying?” Beca shot back indignantly, hand pressed to her chest.
“YES! ANNOYING!” the redhead reiterated. “You’re sooo closed off sometimes and it drives me crazy!”
The brunette blinked disbelievingly, then waved her hands around like a lunatic. “NOT EVERYONE IS SUNSHINE AND KINDNESS AND GODDAMN PERFECTION ALL THE DAMN TIME, LIKE YOU ARE, CHLOE!!”
“AND MY TRYING TO SPREAD HAPPINESS IS A BAD THING?! REALLY????” Chloe’s fists were perched on her hips and her face was pinched in a scowl. Beca had never seen anything as hot in her life and overwhelming heat moved through her, robbing her of her internal filter.
“YES!” she yelled back, emotions finally snapping.  “IT’S A NIGHTMARE BECAUSE YOU MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO NOT FALL IN LOVE WITH YOU EVERY DAMN DAY!!!” There was sudden silence in the room and the redhead’s hands slowly fell from her hips as her face gentled and a little smile lifted her lips. Beca froze, staring like a deer in headlights as she realized what she’d said. ”Um...” she whispered then. “I’m sorry... I...”
But Chloe was already moving closer and cupping Beca’s face between her palms. “Welcome to MY nightmare,” she grinned, then closed the distance between them to leave a lingering kiss on the brunette’s lips. But one wasn’t enough, and she went back for more, leaning into it as she felt Beca respond with a flick of her tongue. The kiss deepened and, after long moments of gasped breathing and quiet moans, they stood in each other’s arms with their foreheads pressed together and eyes closed for a long span of pounding heartbeats. “So... maybe we can make it a dream come true?” Chloe added then, as she gazed at the younger woman, blue eyes speaking volumes.
“Yeah... I’d... I’d really love that, Chlo,” Beca replied with a tiny nod, totally drowning in the loving regard.
“Me too,” the redhead grinned, wrapping her arms soundly around the smaller woman and rocking them gently. “Happy Halloween, Bec.”
Beca melted into her, dropping little kisses on her neck as she curled her hand around its nape and softly caressed. “Happy Halloween, Chlo.”

For some reason i’m unable to comment on your latest chapter, but I couldn’t not say anything because it was SO mind blowing! I’ve read tons of halloween fics but this one is already a game changer. The potential, the implications of what might happen, the subtle but establishing details. Its wonderfully exhilarating 😍
Can't comment? Oh no 😞 I'll look into that and see if it's something I can fix. Thank you for telling me and thank you for this! Being a game changer amongst HALLOWEEN fics is the highest compliment. I love Halloween. And I hope to live up to your hype with the coming chapters!
Thank you again ♡

Hello there spooky pals!! It’s time to vote for the prompts you want for our SpookFest at the end of next month, and we’re so excited for this bit. We decided to do things a bit differently from our predecessors, so we’ve picked seventeen album titles for you to choose from, each of which lends itself to a spooky prompt idea for Pitch Perfect SpookFest.
Here’s where you come in!! We want you to pick your top 3 prompts and send them to us before 23:59 on Sept 25th. Pitch Perfect SpookFest 2022 - Day 2
Summary: Beca Mitchell has been having nightmares about something chasing her. She can't remember much about the dream, but she knows she wakes up just before the thing that's chasing her actually catches her.
Welcome To My Nightmare
Beca Mitchell let out a scream and sat straight up in bed. Her breaths were coming in fast bursts, and her heart pounded as if it were trying to break free from her chest.
Beca looked around her darkened room and felt as if the shadows were moving in on her. She quickly clicked on the bedside lamp and let out the breath she had been holding.
"Fuck," she mumbled, looking at the bedside clock. "I've only been in bed for a couple of hours."
Beca threw back her blankets and threw her legs over the side. She sat for a few minutes to gather her thoughts.
"Okay," Beca mumbled, picking up her notepad and pen from the bedside table. "Nightmare checklist," she read aloud. "Number one: did the dream wake me from a deep sleep? Yes. Check. Number two: was someone chasing me? Yes. Check. Number three: did I see who was chasing me? No. So, no check."
Beca stopped and ran her hand through her hair.
"This is stupid," Beca mumbled, throwing the notepad and pen back down on the table. "I thought this was supposed to help figure out why I keep having this same fucking nightmare."
Beca stood and put her hair up in a ponytail as she left her bedroom.
Beca went to her 'liquor cabinet' and took out the bottle of bourbon. She grabbed a glass and poured two fingers of the bourbon. She downed that and poured another.
By the time she had finished, the once-full bottle was now half-full.
"That should be enough to let me sleep."
Beca turned quickly and fell to the floor. She started laughing, which quickly turned into sobs.
~~ Pitch Perfect SpookFest 2022 - Day 2 ~~
The pounding in Beca's head woke her the next morning. Lifting her head, she wiped the drool from her cheek and looked around; she was still on the kitchen floor. It took her a moment to realize the pounding was not in her head; someone was at her door.
"At least I didn't have another nightmare," Beca muttered as she slowly stood.
"Come on, Beca," her best friend Stacie called out from outside her door. "Let me in."
"Coming," Beca called out as she stumbled to the door.
Stacie pushed inside as soon as Beca opened the door.
"Please, do come in," Beca snarked.
"Well, I can see you're not dead," Stacie said. "Fat Amy and I have been trying to call you for at least an hour. We were worried about you, so I came to make sure you were okay."
"I'm fine," Beca said, going into the kitchen; Stacie followed her.
Beca grabbed the bourbon bottle and put it back in the cupboard.
"Drinking alone?" Stacie asked. "Did you have another nightmare?" Stacie held up her hand. "No, don't answer that. You look like shit, so I already know the answer."
Beca ran a hand through her hair. "So, what? I got drunk; it's the only way I can get any sleep anymore."
"I have an idea that might help," Stacie said. "There are these two researchers I heard about that have developed a process where they can get inside your dreams and help figure out what's happening. Maybe they can help you figure out why you keep having this same nightmare."
"Someone getting inside my dreams?" Beca scoffed. "Sounds a bit Twilight Zone-ish to me."
"That may be, but it couldn't hurt to try," Stacie said. "Either that or keep having the nightmare. Seems like an easy decision to me."
Beca sighed as she leaned against the counter and ran a hand down her face. "I guess it couldn't hurt."
"Good," Stacie said. "I made you an appointment for tomorrow. Try and stay awake tonight, so you'll be able to fall asleep when you're there."
"Why would you make me an appointment before you even told me about. . .this dream team thing?"
"I figured I could talk you into it if you said no," Stacie said.
"You can't make me do it," Beca said.
Stacie crossed her arms over her chest and stared at Beca. Beca stared back. After a minute, Beca caved and sighed.
"Fine, I'll do it," Beca said. "Where am I supposed to go?"
"I knew you'd see things my way," Stacie said smugly. "I'll text you the address. Your appointment is at nine, and you'll be meeting with Dr. Beale and Dr. Smith. They'll ask you questions and then set you up so you can go to sleep. Once you're sleeping, one of them will enter your dream to see if they can figure out what's going on."
"I repeat my previous statement about this being like a Twilight Zone episode," Beca said, pushing herself away from the counter. "I need to get dressed for work."
"Make sure you let them know you'll need to be off tomorrow," Stacie said. "The appointment is probably going to last a few hours."
"I will," Beca said, leaving Stacie alone in her living room.
~~ Pitch Perfect SpookFest 2022 - Day 2 ~~
The next morning, Beca arrived thirty minutes early for her appointment. She had finished filling out the forms she had been given and was now nervously sitting in the waiting room, knee bouncing up and down as she chewed on her fingernail.
"Beca Mitchell?"
Beca jumped up. "That's me."
"Follow me, please," the woman said. "I'm Dr. Smith, and I'll be assisting Dr. Beale with your, um, issue."
"My issue?" Beca asked. "You mean my nightmare?"
"Yeah," Dr. Smith said. "Dr. Beale will be handling the initial exam and dream entry. I'll be manning the equipment to make sure you both stay safe."
Beca stopped. "Stay safe? Is this dangerous?"
Dr. Smith stopped and looked back at Beca. "There are risks to any medical procedure, Miss Mitchell. Because of what we do, there is also a risk to whoever enters your dream. We have to take many precautions to reduce those risks. Dr. Beale will explain everything to you."
Dr. Smith turned and continued down the hall. Beca quickly ran to catch up with her.
Dr. Smith stopped and opened a door, stepping aside to let Beca enter. Beca's eyes darted everywhere, trying to take everything in. Her eyes widened when she noticed the woman coming toward her. The woman was gorgeous.
"Miss Mitchell," a red-haired woman said as she walked toward Beca with her hand outstretched. "I'm Dr. Beale. Please come in and have a seat."
Beca shook Dr. Beale's hand and then sat; Dr. Beale sat across from her. Beca tried not to stare, but she couldn't help herself; the woman was very attractive.
"You're the doctor?" Beca asked, mentally face-palming herself. "Of course, she's the doctor. She just told you she was Dr. Beale."
"Yes, I am," Dr. Beale said, looking down at a clipboard. "I see here that you keep having the same nightmare, and it is disrupting your everyday life. Can you tell me about this nightmare?"
"Um," Beca mumbled. "Someone is chasing me, and I don't know who it is or why they are chasing me. I always wake up just as I'm about to find out who it is."
"I see," Dr. Beale hummed. "From my studies, I know that being chased in your dream is one of several common dream themes stemming from feelings of anxiety in your waking life. In such dreams, you could be running from an attacker, an animal, a monster, or some unknown figure who wants to hurt or possibly kill you. Fight or flight is an instinctive response to a physical threat in the environment. Thus it is natural to run or hide or try to outwit your pursuer."
"I feel like whatever is chasing me wants to harm me," Beca said. "They may even want to kill me."
"Hmmm," Chloe hummed as she made another note on her clipboard. "Another thing about dreaming that you are being chased is an indication that you are avoiding some issues in your waking life. The actions in your dream exemplify how you respond to pressure and cope with fears, stress, or various situations. Instead of confronting the situation, you have a tendency to run away and avoid issues that you are uncomfortable with addressing."
"I, um, I do kind of do that," Beca said. "I tend to run when things get a bit too much for me."
"Let's delve a little farther into that," Chloe said. "Do you recall when this nightmare began?"
"Uh, about six months ago," Beca responded.
"Six months," Dr. Beale said, making a note on her clipboard. "Did anything major happen to you at that time?"
"What do you mean by major?"
"The death of someone close to you or perhaps you went through a bad breakup. Did something like that happen around that time?"
"No, nothing like that happened," Beca said, shifting in her seat.
"But, there was something," Dr. Beale said, prodding Beca for more.
"Well, six months ago, I got a promotion at work that I've been wanting. But that's a good thing and wouldn't cause me to have nightmares. Would it?"
"I wouldn't think so. But it may have triggered some anxiety that you're trying to keep buried. We'll know more once I get inside your nightmare and observe you."
"When are we going to do that?"
"Now, if you're up to it."
"Okay, let's do it."
~~ Pitch Perfect SpookFest 2022 - Day 2 ~~
"Relax, Miss Mitchell," Dr. Beale said as she placed a lead on Beca's temple.
"Please, call me Beca," Beca said.
"Okay," Dr. Beale said. "I'm Chloe. Now, once we get all these leads hooked up, we can get started. The first thing we'll do is turn down the lights and play some soft music to help you relax. I'll lay next to you, and Jessica, Dr. Smith, will hook me up. She'll start monitoring us both, and as soon as you are asleep, I'll join your dream. For the most part, I won't interact with you so your dream can come to its natural conclusion. Any questions?"
"How long will it last?"
Chloe chuckled softly. "That all depends on you. Once your dream ends, you'll wake up, and if I don't wake when you do, Jessica will wake me."
"Then what?"
"We'll sit down, and I'll tell you everything I observed," Chloe said. "Okay?"
"Okay," Beca responded.
Chloe smiled at Beca as she positioned herself on the bed next to Beca, and Jessica hooked up the leads. She smiled down at Chloe and left the room.
"Okay, ladies," Jessica said, her voice sounding through the speakers in the room. "First, the lights will go down, and then I'll turn on the music. That should relax you both enough for you to go to sleep."
Chloe took Beca's hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Ready?"
Beca looked over at Chloe and nodded.
"Okay, Jessica," Chloe said. "We're ready."
Jessica lowered the lights and turned on the music. She turned the knob to adjust the volume.
"Is that too low or too loud?" Jessica asked into the microphone.
"It's perfect, Jess," Chloe responded.
Beca nodded her head; she became more aware of all the wires that were attached to her and sighed.
"It's going to be okay," Chloe said. "I promise."
"I'm sorry," Beca said. "It's just. All these wires are making me tense."
"That's understandable," Chloe said. "What usually helps you relax and fall asleep."
"A couple of shots of bourbon helps a lot," Beca replied.
Chloe chuckled. "We can't do that," she said. "It may mess with your usual sleep patterns. Not to mention cause you not to dream."
"Right," Beca said. "The music is nice. Maybe if I just lay here and listen to it, it will help relax me so I can fall asleep."
"Okay," Chloe said. "I'll do the same, and I'll see you in your dreams."
A few minutes later, Chloe noticed Beca's breathing had become shallow and even. She looked over at her. Beca's eyes were closed, and her face looked relaxed.
"Okay, Jess," Chloe said quietly. "I think it's time."
"On it," Jessica said.
Chloe settled back and closed her eyes. She regulated her breathing and soon was asleep.
Chloe found herself in a bedroom with a younger-looking Beca and a man.
"No, daddy," Little Beca cried. "Leave the light on."
"There's nothing to be afraid of, Beca," Mr. Mitchell said, turning the light off. "You're a big girl now. So, go to sleep, and I'll see you in the morning."
Little Beca covered her face and cried. Chloe's heart went out to the little girl.
Suddenly, Chloe found herself watching an older Beca storming out of a house with the same man she knew was Beca's father yelling after her.
"And don't bother coming back!"
Beca stopped and faced the house. "Don't worry, I won't! I hate you! And your new wife!"
Beca stormed off, and Chloe watched until the scene changed again.
This time, she found herself at a gravesite. She looked around and saw Beca crying next to a woman who looked like her, only much older. The only other person there was a minister who was talking about God and Heaven.
The gravesite service ended, and the woman put her arm around Beca's shoulder.
"Come on, Beca," the woman said. "Let's go home."
Beca let the woman lead her away, looking back over her shoulder as two men began shoveling dirt over the coffin.
"Beca can't be more than sixteen," Chloe thought to herself.
The scene changed again, and Beca was now running down a dark street as if someone was chasing her. Chloe looked behind Beca but did not see anyone.
Beca continued to run, and Chloe soon found herself standing in a room with Beca, whose back was against the door, as she tried to catch her breath.
Chloe jumped slightly when there was a sudden banging on the door. She watched as Beca's eyes grew wide, and she pressed back against the door to keep it from being opened.
"Beca?" Chloe called, getting Beca's attention.
"Ahh!" Beca cried out. "Wh-what?"
"It's okay, Beca," Chloe said. "I'm going to leave you alone for a moment, so I can find out who's banging on the door. Okay?"
"O-okay," Beca said, then gasped when Chloe disappeared.
Chloe found herself on the other side of the door. It was her turn to gasp when she saw who was banging on the door. She quickly rejoined Beca.
"Beca," Chloe said. "Listen to me. You need to wake up now. Okay? Just wake up."
~~ Pitch Perfect SpookFest 2022 - Day 2 ~~
Beca suddenly woke with a start, sitting up in the bed, panting. She looked around to find she was in the bed with Chloe. She went to run her hand through her hair, only the leads stopped her.
"Shit!" Beca cried out.
"Beca, are you alright?" Jessica's voice came through the speaker.
"Um, yeah," Beca said. "I'm good."
Chloe woke up and immediately began removing the leads that were attached to her. Beca watched as her breathing began to return to normal.
"We need to talk about what I observed," Chloe said as she started removing Beca's leads.
"Okay," Beca said after the last lead was removed. "What did you observe?"
"Let's go to another room, and then we can talk," Chloe said, getting off the bed.
"Come this way, Beca," Jessica said from the doorway. "I have a room ready."
Beca followed Jessica, with Chloe following close behind. They entered a small room with a table and three chairs. Chloe and Jessica sat; Beca stood by the door.
"Please, have a seat, Beca," Chloe said.
Beca slowly made her way over and sat; she was sitting between Chloe and Jessica.
"I'm going to start from the first scene I encountered," Chloe said. "Will that be okay with you, Beca?"
"That's fine," Beca said.
"Okay," Chloe responded. "When I first entered your dream, you were just a young girl, maybe five or six. And, a man whom you called daddy was putting you to bed. You wanted the light left on, but he turned it off. You were upset when he did that."
"I was afraid of the dark," Beca said. "But, my father thought I was old enough not to be afraid. He was wrong, and I'm still afraid of the dark."
"I see," Chloe said. "After that, the next scene was you storming out of a house while you yelled at your father."
"I told him I was gay, and he kicked me out of his house," Beca said, teary-eyed. "He and his new wife didn't care that I was only fourteen. I went to my grandma's house. She took me in and raised me until I left to go out on my own."
"I'm sorry you had to go through that," Chloe said, placing a comforting hand over Beca's.
"It was what it was," Beca said, shrugging.
"Okay, so the next scene I encountered was you standing with an older woman at a gravesite," Chloe said.
"That must have been my mother's funeral," Beca said, teary-eyed. "It was just my grandma and me there to pay our last respects. I was sixteen when she died. My dad didn't show up. I thought he would come out of respect for her, but I guess he couldn't stand to be around his gay daughter."
Jessica handed Beca a tissue. Beca thanked her and wiped her eyes.
"So, um, what else did you see?" Beca asked. "I know I was being chased, and you were there. But I didn't see who was chasing me, did you?"
"Yes, I did," Chloe said. "Before I say anything more, I think you may want to talk to a psychologist. They study mental states, perceptual, cognitive, emotional, and social processes and behavior. Their work often involves the experimentation, observation, and interpretation of how individuals relate to each other and to their environments. I think they will be more likely to help you than we would."
"Why? What did you see?" Beca asked, sitting up straighter in her chair.
"Um, well," Chloe said. "I got a very clear look at who was banging on the door after chasing you into that room."
"Who was it?" Beca asked, her voice rising. "Who did you see?"
"Your father."
"My dad?!" Beca exclaimed.
"Yes," Chloe said. "The person that has been chasing you in your nightmare is your father."
"Does that mean my dad wants to kill me?" Beca asked.
"I can't be sure," Chloe said.
"But you have some idea, right?" Beca said.
"I do," Chloe said, running a hand through her hair. "All the scenes I witnessed had you interacting with your father in an angry manner. You were angry when he turned off the light and when he threw you out of his house. Then you were angry at him when he didn't show up for your mother's funeral. I think you still have a lot of unresolved anger toward your father; that's why I suggest you speak to a psychologist. They can help you dig deep down and figure it out. I'm sorry we can't do any more than what we've done."
"No, um, that's okay," Beca said. "It actually explains a lot. I'll take your suggestion and talk to a psychologist. I think you're right that they could help me deal with my anger toward my father."
Chloe smiled and stood. "I'm glad. Perhaps you'll keep us informed of what happens."
"I can do that," Beca said. "Thank you both."
"We're glad we were able to help," Jessica said. "Even if we couldn't give you all the answers you were looking for."
"Maybe not," Beca said, smiling. "But, you gave me a good place to start."
~~ Pitch Perfect SpookFest 2022 - Day 2 ~~
Six months later, Beca walked into the dream research office and sat down with Chloe and Jessica. She had made an appointment to let the two know how things were going.
"What can we do for you, Beca?" Jessica asked.
"I wanted to thank you both again," Beca said cheerfully. "Your advice worked. I've been seeing a psychologist, and one of their recommendations was to confront my father in my dream. I did and yelled at him about everything he did that made me angry. Since I did that, I've only had that nightmare once."
"Beca!" Chloe squealed, jumping up to hug her. "That's wonderful news."
"Thanks," Beca said before releasing Chloe.
"Thanks for letting us know," Jessica said.
"I promised I would," Beca said and looked at her watch. "Oh, I have to get back to the studio. Thank you both again."
Later that night, Beca was lying in bed when she started dreaming. It started out innocently enough but quickly turned into a nightmare. A nightmare where someone was chasing her again. As she had done in her previous nightmare, she turned to confront whoever it was, expecting to see her father. Instead, she was shocked because when she turned, Beca was looking directly into the smirking face of Dr. Chloe Beale.
"What are you doing in my dream?" Beca asked.
"The question should be, am I in your dream, or are you in mine?" Chloe asked with a grin.
"I, um," Beca stammered, unsure how to respond.
She gasped when Chloe suddenly leaned in to kiss her. Beca kissed her back, and suddenly Beca felt a pain in her stomach. She looked down and saw a knife in Chloe's hand. She looked at Chloe, and Chloe was grinning at her.
"Welcome to your new nightmare," Chloe said.
Beca woke up with a start and sat up in her bed.
"What the fuck was that?" Beca muttered.

pitch perfect spookfest day 1: fear of the dark
Words: 2613
Notes: My collection of one-shots for @pitch-perfect-spookfest 2022! I won't be doing all the prompts - I currently have 2 and a half prompts written so there'll be a minimum of 3.
I didn't want to add this to my normal collection of one-shots as the theme of these is obviously quite a bit darker. Expect death, blood, and some violence too.
