we were deprived of some kind of reunion between annabeth and thalia after the sea of monsters. in case some of y'all forgot, the last time thalia saw annabeth was when annabeth was seven-years-old, a child running from a neglectful family with nothing but the clothes on her back and a hammer. and the last time annabeth saw thalia was when she watched a monster literally rip thalia to shreds long enough for her, luke, and grover, to make it across the chb border. you can't tell me that after they get some time alone, annabeth didn't reveal that she's thirteen, and thalia didn't tear up. you can't tell me that annabeth didn't burst into tears while telling her what happened to luke and thalia didn't let her sob into her chest while also crying herself. you can't tell me that these two didn't talk about the first son of poseidon in centuries and wondered what that meant for the prophecy. you can't tell me that thalia didn't tease annbeth a little bit once she noticed that look in annabeth's eyes when talking about percy. i just need this to exist. somewhere. please.

Percy Jackson as a child with ADHD (as portrayed in the new live action series)
For me, as someone who grew up with ADHD myself, pjo is super important. Rick Riordan manages to show the problems that neurodivergent people run into again and again. So, here’s some things from the Disney+ series that stood out.
1. School
Tumblr media
Anyone who knows PJO also knows about the fact that Percy has gotten kicked from… A LOT of schools. Now, while a lot of people joke about it, Percy’s school experience is SO important.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, Mrs. Dodds wasn’t your average teacher, but in my honest to gods opinion… the school system is fucked, especially when we’re talking about neurodivergent children and how they’re treated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can promise you I have had this conversation a lot. Obviously Percy had too. There’s not much to say about this, besides the fact that Percy was rightfully upset. Imagine getting told you’re ’special’ and ‘different’ over and over again. It’s not as comforting as it might have been intended to be.
2. Feeling Weird/Not Fitting In
Tumblr media
People with ADHD are often seen as weird, sometimes not even human. Hell, I know how my classmates thought about me or other children with ADHD. We were weird, we didn’t fit in and we accepted that. I swear, the day ND people are treated normally is the day hell freezes over (and just not the ninth circle…)
3. Camp Half-Blood
Tumblr media
I have talked about camp feeling a lot like special education before, but I’ll keep saying it. Sure, it’s not all great, but the relief of being surrounded by people with similar struggles to your own… it’s godly.
Tumblr media
I remember when I was about Percy’s age, maybe younger, I was THAT kid too. Back then I wasn’t diagnosed (0/10 wouldn’t recommend) but I got along with other nd kids, because we understood eachother. Sure, we could clash sometimes, but there were also other times where we would get along because of those similarities that we shared. That weirdness that we had and other’s didn’t.
Tumblr media
… idk how to end this so… thank u for listening to my ted talk 🪦

JKDLA;DA;FL oh my gods..
OK SO luke with the glory and telling percy that and percy thinking he has to get glory for his father to notice him? BRILLIANT. OH MY GODS. (its just like younger luke. i wonder if we'll get to see clips of young luke, it would be intresting to compare and contrast them to percy)
also the scene in capture the flag where percy is just messing around? THATS HIM. THATS SO PERCY BEHAVIOR THEY CAPTURED HIS CHARACTER PERFECTLY
ALSO him refusing to go on the quest? also percy. i cant belive how good this is. and i love grover's pointy ears. thats such a cool detail i dont think is in the boks but i love they added it
AND ANNABETH?? OH GODS ITS HER!!! THATS OUR GIRL!!! i love the casting sm they look like BABIES. WHY is he seeing his mother die hes like 2 years old wtf. (unitentional jason refrance lmao)
ALSO THE GIRL IN THE WHEELCHAIR? AMAZING. this show is so diverse and i can't wait till they show queer charaters (maybe they will with backround characters... hopefully, please please)
also i love annabeth's accent. it really adds to her character being black and i love that.
i WILL add more but i must go consume more meidia of these guys klajfdklasjfdoa

Is there anyone else who found the new PJO show disappointing and bland? My main problem is that it got so sanitized and generic. Most of the characters in the first saga were hardened in some way,but their show counterparts don't transmit the same vibe. At the same time, the books had a delightful whimsical feeling about them - there was humour, weirdness, colour. The show,on the other hand, feels more like a generic fantasy show.

Saw people talk about the fact that the trio knows every single threat they have to face before they have to confront them in the show vs in the books they actually fall into traps and then have to find a way to escape it.
This is one of the main issues i have too honestly. I understand the choice of making annabeth pick up on the statues and the name of the place and obviously guess "oh that is medusa". It works bc medusa is important and connected to her mother and like the context clues are staggering.
But comparing that moment to the start of episode 7 (which i actually really enjoyed especially compared to ep6) makes the show lose most of the tension they could have.
Like why make it an immediate exposition dump on "oh you are this and you do that and we are here for this and that" i don't mind the change of making the shop the entrance of hell but why can't they just for once fall into a trap like? They are 12 years old trying to avoid a war and fix a situation way bigger than them, they are smart and quick witted but let them make mistakes and NOT KNOW some things.
I feel like a lot of the potential of the first scene went out of the window and it just became a "here's an exposition of a scene that happened in the book" and that way even if you cut it you don't lose anything really.
Changes are a GOOD thing and that is not my issue with the show at all! I have already said that I mostly enjoy the changes that were made and I am not expecting nor want a scene for scene copy but it does make it a lot less interesting imo if they go into EVERY SINGLE SITUATION knowing what they are up against for no real reason.
You can have them know some things and guess who they are up against but like if it happens every time the tension of the danger gets lost a lot and it becomes repetitive imo.
On the good side of things tho I think you can see in general that the trio has gotten a lot more comfortable in the characters and the improvement it's very visible. I already said how I really love the casting and I only expect them to get better at portraying the characters that is a no brainer.
The flash backs were probably my favorite part of the episode along with the way they decided to visually represent Hell.
I love that we get to see a peak of Sally and Poseidon's dynamic and how hard it was for Sally to raise Percy, not only bc of the risks his godly heritage brings but also bc she was a single mother and society in general tends to give up on people that don't fit the mold.
Small Percy thinking his mom wanted to get rid of him and saying "I would never do that to you" even tho she has spent every moment doing her best to protect him vs an older Percy having to choose to leave his mom behind so he can do the right thing even tho everything he has done has been fueled by the desire to save her. That was beautiful and tragic.
Casting in general is incredible bc even with the little we saw of Poseidon (I knew the actor from black sails so I knew he would be great) I think he really nailed it.
Hades is maybe a BIT too silly but I can live with it honestly. Like we'll have time to explore and make other characters deeper later on so i don't see this as an issue.
The decision to make them aware of Kronos and tell Hades is interesting and I do like that he offered to protect Percy if he believed to be at risk.
I understand that with how things are now you never know if a show will be renewed and if you'll get to actually finish your story so I don't mind them making certain stuff known sooner and sprinkling references to future events or call backs (MOA percabeth reference I am talking abt you).
Overall I think that the strongest suit of the show right now is the cast and the way they show characters dynamics and their potential.
Like I have said before my criticism stems from my love for the material and my wish for it to do well. I have opinions that maybe will not match with others and it's okay! Not everyone has to like something! I WANT the show to keep going and grow and evolve into a better adaptation with each step because I really love the basis they laid down, the story and the characters and I see the potential most of all. I can't wait for the last episode.

listen. percy jackson is so utterly powerful I don’t know how to express how I feel about this. he can sit, cracking jokes and balancing grapes on his nose,,,, but he is so *feral*. He is literally the son of the closest god to chaos there is, Poseidon’s children are born monstrous, he is the child of the unpredictable and unforgiving element. hIS NAME MEANS TO DESTROY. He wields Riptide, is utterly untamable, a million tasks that would’ve been a death sentence for any other he took on and walked out with blood on his hands and a joke on his lips and he covered the trauma and shouldered the title of leader, protector, he willingly shackled himself to responsibility despite being so connected to the sea which wants nothing more than to be free????? He loves his mother and his friends so fiercely he would burn down the world with him inside for them, he makes even his allies want to run when he gets angry. Despite that, he is measured, even, calm as an easy day at sea, and he never lets his smile slip around those he protects I SAID LISTEN-

ok don’t get me wrong I think the show is absolutely AMAZING and the cast is perfect and everything else but I keep seeing people saying that the show is doing percabeth better than the books did and imma have to respectfully disagree because I think one of the main things that makes percabeth so AHHH 🤩😭 in the books is how it’s just SO slow burn (in an obviously inevitable way) and just how sassy and teenagery they are with each other and with the show I feel like we’re getting third book level percabeth borderline MOA percabeth WHICH IS NOT A BAD THING but I feel like the show has been so emotionally heavy already and I personally prefer how in the books they take everything way too lightly and joke every two seconds and annoy each other and slowly they come to the realization that not only would they die for each other they would also kill for each other etc. but also I haven’t read the lightning thief in a while so maybe I’m remembering wrong but anyways that’s the rant sorry about the longest sentence ever

One thing that will always kill me about Michael Yew's death and how Rick just... kinda dropped it?
Like yeah he brought it up recently... like twice in one book.
But we get NO closure. After Percy leaves that bridge you have nothing but context clues to piece together how him and others might feel after.
Yes,he was brought in just to die, but unlike with Lee the book prior (who doesn't even get a description) he's semi fleshed out. As much as you can a minor character in half a book.
Him being known for his attitude and his fighting with Clarisse. Yet he's the one who truly gets that things were about to get serious (with little info BTW. Annabeth mentions he hardly explained a thing so all I can think of is Percy just told them where to meet and what to bring.) He stepped back and gave the chariot, and got rightfully upset when she still refused. Yet when he explains it to Percy he doesn't sound angry anymore, the way he talks gives a more "ey, what can we do now" tone.
We see how he is in battle, he's much calmer then he was at camp. He's still got attitude but he's not picking fights with anyone. He's grinning when he runs up, and given their odds in that fight he likely was doing it to not show his siblings or the enemy he was frightened in any way. His siblings were dieing, I always assume this where they took their biggest hit. So Michael, who's been rushed into a leadership role in the middle of war, is in the biggest battle yet and losing his siblings left and right. And he keeps his head.
He's the one who tells Percy they need to retreat. Yet he doesn't question him when Percy tells them they need to hold their ground there. And Percy LITERALLY tells Annabeth she's the only one who can gather MICHAEL'S cabin in a defensive line why Percy fights the minotaur.
And Michael, known for telling Clarisse to kiss his ass in the most ages 10+ book way he can, just does a sarcastic "gee thanks" and doesn't argue.
Boy had to watch Percy flirting with Annabeth that whole first bit in middle of battle gods bless him 😭 I just know he teased Annabeth once Percy left.
But yeah, he's such a good leader for just being there a year. And when they're retreating, and Annabeth gets hurt and whisked away, he definitely saw Percy was the only one standing between Kronos' Army and his siblings + all of Manhattan. If it weren't for his idea to break the bridge (which is brilliant btw we don't see many other campers mentioning Percy's powers.) Then they would've been screwed. Reinforcements didn't come until the next day, and say Silena leaves around the same time for Clarisse, she doesn't return until the day AFTER.
Michael made a calculated decision, and why it's argued whether he could've pieced Percy have dipped in the styx or not(Hestia out right says it in front of everyone. And just watching him fight they had to have tell that he wasn't harmed as he should be) he still knew Percy couldn't hold all of them on his own.
And the reaction when Percy finds out is emotional. Him desperately searching over the bridge, his frustrated scream(which I hope is heart breaking in the show). It's emotional. Then it's intrupted by Annabeth needing help, not say that scene wasn't needed btw, just I find it very unrealistic no one even ASKED Percy about Michael. Even if they saw the end of the fight through the shield, there had to be someone going "is it true about Michael?"
CAUSE THAT'S WHAT THE DID FOR BECKENDORF AND SILENA.
I know they were more established characters, but it's just sad that Michael is kinda...forgotten.
And the thing was, his odds were purposely stacked against him.
In a rp server I'm on we were talking about how in a battle usually people take out the strongest and the healers.
Ares cabin is likely the strongest in just brute strength and determination in a fight. He didn't have to do anything for that.
The Apollo cabin ARE the healers(so are hunters but not as good considering none of them could help Annabeth.)
Jake outright states that Kronos went for their weak points, but I don't think he just means by size(after all the Apollo cabin had one the highest amount of members second to Hermes)
The Hunters were the biggest by size, but they were also at their strongest. Kronos attacked by night, Hunters took oath to the goddess of the MOON.
And very few other cabins had limitations based off day and night cycle.
Except for Apollo kids. They were weaker at night with the lack of the sun(not Will in tsats weak, just not at their highest point).
Not only that, but it would take care of the best healers. By the time Percy has to grab a Apollo kid,Will's likely the oldest(and considering Michael personally trained him Percy probably knew him in some way before hand as he likely took up as semi-head medic when Michael was too busy in battle stuff, assuming he was always the second oldest before that battle that is.) And best medic.
Kayla and Austin don't specialize in healing like Will does. We don't even really know what powers they have different to Will's. That and they were like 11, Kayla was maybe 12 but we're not sure. They likely joined camp THAT year and had hardly any medical training. And we don't know the skills of who(if any) were left after that first night.
I stand by the fact that Kronos' decision to push his focus on Williamsburg Bridge was strategically planned, that it makes Michael's death even more tragic.
I hope in the show we 1. See more of him in at least the background. 2. Get shown people actually mourning him. Obviously I'm biased to Jake cause Jake x Michael. But Katie, Silena,Annabeth??
Heck the Stolls? I can see them being close to him.
Show Clarisse(and maybe even Chris too) finding out about his death. Show how it effects Percy and the Apollo cabin. Percy looks at the Apollo cabin a good amount of times throughout the book, Show him looking over at Will rushing about and having a pained look on his face.
Also,I find it completely impossible that there was no kid at that camp who tried to bring up Michael when Percy went missing. Like "oh there goes another missing head counselor."
Then just immediately gets clonked on the head for it fjdydf
Like there was a way to bring him up in tlh, considering he went missing, and then Percy(who was the last one with him) goes missing after the war. Like you're telling me no one was comparing that? In a camp filled with gossiping teens? Mhm sure.
Anyway, thank you for coming to my Ted-Talk

If you think the Tunnel of Love scene was them "confessing their feelings" or the show "speed running Percabeth" or anything like that, you are clearly forgetting Rick himself has already said "Shut up and let the slow burn slow burn because it's going to." Y'all see two people being vulnerable with each other for half a second (in retrospect to the rest of their canon lives) and suddenly think they changed everything.
I'm tired of everyone wanting Annabeth to hate and be annoyed by Percy for another year and a half. Like Jesus dude can't you allow for some changes that aren't just comical or entertaining? It's the same as being mad Sally has a fucking backbone against Gabe. Hello?! She had a two month long affair with a fucking god. Not just any god. Stormbringer. Earthshaker. Father of horses. That man may not have been toxic but you can rest assured he made sure Sally wasn't going to be some pushover when he broke his sacred fucking vow not to have anymore demigods, which basically meant no more relationships with mortals. You're telling me you think he chose a weak woman to break a sacred vow over? The god who can tear the world and ocean apart with one (1) shifted tectonic plate? As. Fucking. If.
Also if you're mad that Grover was made to stay behind during that scene you are lame. Grover deserves to stop having to pretend to be 12 for 5 seconds of his life. Grover is TWICE THEIR AGE and has spent the last YEAR amongst acne riddled, pre-pubescent, annoying ass teenagers. The MAN deserves 5 seconds to sit with Ares and be like "So actually I'm 24 and I'm fixing to prove it and play you like a cheap fucking kazoo."

idk how ppl are saying the pjo show’s acting is not good and comparing it with the first few movies of hp coz i did a hp marathon literally last month and let me tell you the pjo kids are far FAR ahead in terms of acting and i mean this with the utmost love and respect for dan, emma and rupert but for hp the priority was about casting children who were like their characters while for pjo it was about casting actors who were like their characters and therein lies the biggest difference because acting ability was a priority for pjo. dan, emma and rupert 100% got phenomenally better as the story progressed and dan is one of my favourite actors to watch now but let’s not pretend like the fumbles the celestial trio make rn are anywhere near as bad as golden trio in hp and the philosopher’s stone coz walker was literally serving microexpressions in episode 3 these kids already know how to act and yes they have alot of room for growth and improvement but this shit i’m hearing is too much nonsense idk like pls go rewatch the first hp movie before comparing skill levels. :')

ok so I know I usually post art but HEAR ME OUT
PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS: SEA OF MONSTERS AND TITAN'S CURSE SPOILERS !!
ok, so you know how Thalia got turned to a tree before she could make it to camp? and how she became a Hunter of Artemis soon after? well, that got me thinking while I was painting the pine tree bead on Annabeth's necklace for my costume
Thalia wouldn't have a camp necklace or any beads. unless the camp made her one over the years that she was a tree, she wouldn't have a necklace. the necklace represents every year you've spent at camp, and technically, Thalia never spent a year at camp. she became a Hunter of Artemis before she could even get the SoM bead.
that's so sad, and it honestly breaks my heart.

Why is Piper with caleidoscope eyes and Hazel with golden eyes racist but non mixed black Annabeth with blond hair and grey eyes okay?
I say that as a black woman who has always loved Hazel's and Piper's eyes because they give USAmerican magical girls vibes and fit with their powers,IMO(golden eyes for the girl with mineral powers, and Piper's eyes being a specle for Aphrodite's spontaneous shapeshifting). Besides, black and indigenous girls never needed "different" features to be sexualized and/or considered ugly, centuries of discrimination, exploitation and societal prejudice did enough to have their natural features being othered(I was mocked in grade school due to my 4a hair texture, for example). Of course,as I'm not Cherokee, there might be some cultural nuances I'm missing when it comes to Piper. That's why my favourite Hazel fanarts are the ones where she has coily hair, dark skin, wide nose, thick lips and golden eyes.
On the other hand,I dislike the idea of show-inspired Annabeth being blonde because I've always hated the whole "grey-eyed blond cabin". Like, why are they like that? If the blond cabin was Apollo, for example,it might make more sense. Children of the sun god, golden theme. Either that,or the Poseidon cabin, lol. King of the oceans,sandy-blond hair(why does Luke,of all people, have sandy blond hair? I'm right on my Roman Legacy headcanon, but wrong on the deity? I've insisted on Venus and Fortuna for too long, lol). If Annabeth is a dark-skinned,non-mixed girl, there would be little to no reason for her to be blonde. In fact,I'd give Athena kids "scheming/overthinking-resting faces",just like children of Hermes have mischievous, elvic faces.

Final episode thoughts.
This is the episode that showed the most how GOOD the show can be going forward imo.
Once again the biggest strength is the casting bc the actors they chose are so good for the part and the moment they have the chance to show off they DO.
The gods we have seen were picked perfectly. Rest in peace to the actor of Zeus, Lance Reddick, who has delivered an incredible performance with the time he had to shine.
Walker always had that spark in him to play Percy, the IMPERTINENCE. The scene with Zeus was so good at showing that off, especially after we got the fight with Ares which was also really good.
I really liked the added scenes with Luke, especially knowing what was gonna happen.
Annabeth and Percy little moments are always going to make me want to scream. I love them dearly and I want to see them grow and fall for each other so bad.
When it comes to making changes to the story I feel like this episode is one of the ones that actually did make good ones that made sense. Like the final part with Luke was a good change bc it gave us another sword fight, which is of course going to look better on screen and give us a more dynamic moment.
Percy actually guessing Luke is the thief is a change that actually makes sense compared to the "all knowing" moments in other occasions.
He saw the shoes Luke gave him almost drag Grover into Tartarus and he knew someone he considered a friend was gonna betray him so he guessed it when things seemed off.
Overall I am still of the opinion that the show has a LOT of potential and they really need to let the episodes be longer and the characters actually make mistakes and not know every single thing that is going to happen.
It's not perfect of course and I did not expect an exact copy of the books at all. I want it to be a good adaptation and that also means change things that have to be changed while keeping the spirit of the story.
I know Rick loves his work and deeply cares abt how he is adapting it so I really have high hopes for the show to get better with time in the beats it's lacking in.
The kids are just going to get better at playing the characters. They already have the spirit of the trio down and you can see that they got better with each episodes so I am excited to see what they will do going forward.
So much work went into the show and there is so much love and care from the people making it. I hope that the big company won't make things hard and will let the show grow and develop the way it can. They have gold in their hands with this show they just need to take advantage of the material in its entirety.
GIVE US LONGER EPISODES!!!

Percy Jackson Characters Explained by Dogs
So, after reading this post about how Percy Jackson is actually terrifying, but we (the readers) don't notice it as much because we're always on his side, I commented that certain dogs can explain it more visually. So, I decided to make it into a post (with images). Now, here we are, putting dog photos next to PJO-HoO characters. Here we go:
Percy Jackson = Caucasian Shepherd or Belgian Mallinois
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s a sweetheart to family and FAMILY ONLY. To everyone else, he will label you as a threat until proven otherwise. (Also, I just realized Percy fits the Mastiff type dogs perfectly, which is what Mrs. O'Leary is).
2. Nico di Angelo = Dalmatian
Tumblr media
He’s not seen as violent, but every now and again he will tear someone or something to shreds. Which, coming from a "harmless-looking" individual, makes him creepy. (Ironically, Nico went to Dalmatia in HoH).
3. Jason Grace = Rhodesian Ridgeback
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He will stare down and hunt down lions, but is not known for violent outbursts. (I just realized it also fits his "raised by wolves" bit, since the RRs need good socialization to be stable).
4. Annabeth Chase = Border Collie/Dingo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's highly intelligent, fierce, adaptable, and extremely intimidating when focused on a task (usually involving hunting of some kind). Also, the size difference between Percabeth is an added bonus. (Can you imagine the tiny Dingo with the giant CS curled around it?)
5. Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano = Greyhound
Tumblr media
She's dominant, laser-focused, and will chase down her goal, no matter who or what stands in her way.
6. Leo Valdez = Basenji or Nureongi
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's slightly out of place (Basenjis don't bark, but yodel) with a very dark past (Nureongis are only bred for dog meat), but has the personality of a sweetheart with a hidden fire.
7. Hazel Levesque = American Foxhound
Tumblr media
She's good around horses, and feels comfortable in both violence and family.
8. Frank Zhang = Dogo Argentino or Aksaray Malaklisi
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He doesn’t seem intimidating at first glance, but a closer inspection reveals a strong ferocity that has killed many beasts (also, he's freaking huge).
9. Piper McLean = Calupoh
Tumblr media
She's extremely beautiful, which allows her to get away with certain things that would otherwise turn some heads (reference to her charmspeak, as well as her desire for revenge).
10. Thalia Grace = Carolina Dog, Siberian Laika, Canaan Dog, Brazilian Caramel, or Indian Pariah
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's too wild to stay in one spot, but always close by whenever someone needs assistance.
So, yeah, that's what I got so far. I might make some more in the future, but we'll see.
PS: I changed the "were" to "are", since some companies in Korea still breed Nureongis for meat only.
