The independent investigative agency is issuing the warning that an actuator attached to the rudder on some 737 NG and 737 MAX airplanes could fail... "Boeing's 737 flight manual instructs pilots confronted with a jammed or restricted rudder to 'overpower the jammed or restricted system (using) maximum force, including a combined effort of both pilots,'" the NTSB said in a news release.
Got that? Your Boeing 737 flight crew might experience a life-or-death physical struggle with the plane's controls if a critical actuator fails.
This only impacts US deployed 737s, since the actuator with the "manufacturing defect" was only installed in US planes.
Note that this is a new alert, issued September 26, 2024. There's been so many Boeing stories lately it's easy to see something and think it's old news.

(Reuters) - Boeing has dismantled its global diversity, equity and inclusion department, Bloomberg news reported on Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The report said the staff from Boeing's DEI office would be combined with another human resources team focused on talent and employee experience.
Sara Liang Bowen, who was a vice president in the department, announced earlier in the day on LinkedIn that she had left the company.
"It has been the privilege of my lifetime to lead Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at the Boeing company these past 5+ years. Our team strived every day to support the evolving brilliance and creativity of our workforce," she said in the post.
On Tuesday, Boeing launched a stock offering that could raise up to $24.3 billion as the planemaker looks to strengthen its finances, pressured by a more than six-week strike by factory workers. Earlier this month, the company also said that it planned to cut 17,000 jobs, which represent 10% of its global workforce.

airsLLide No. 3896: N937AS, McDonnell Douglas MD-83 (DC-9-83), Alaska Airlines, Seattle/Tacoma, September 10, 1989.
Seattle-based Alaska Airlines flies the claim «Proudly All Boeing» on its current fleet of Boeing 737NG and MAX, and it also did in the past use this slogan to emphasize its close and exclusive relationship to the Seattle planemaker. Some folks thus mocked Alaska Airlines when the carrier suddenly inherited the Airbus A319/A320 and A321neo into its fleet, following the acquisition of Virgin America.
The mocker's statement that Alaska had - so to say - broken its vows with Boeing however clearly disregarded the airline's past which saw service of various non-Boeing aircraft models with the airline. After all, it was a (single) Convair 880 that opened the door into the jet age for the carrier. And, even more drastic, Alaska became a power-user of the MD-80 family, employing 47 units of the jet built by Boeing's then arch-rival McDonnell Douglas, and this aircraft model played a key role for the airline with the «friendly Eskimo».
In spring 1985, Alaska took delivery of the first of 22 McDonnell Douglas DC-9-82 (under which designation the aircraft is officially certified, and under which name it was also marketed before the MD-82 term was adopted as simplified brand name) it had ordered from the manufacturer. The jets were used to replace the existing fleet of Boeing 727-200 Adv. jets on flights between Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. At the same time, Alaska became the launch customer for the extended range, higher thrust and thus also higher maximum take-off weight (MTOW) variant DC-9-83 (later redubbed the MD-83 in marketing documents and other inofficial circumstances). It took delivery of the first unit in December 1985, and used the type to grow South. The extended range of the DC-9-83, or MD-83 if you prefer the more common marketing term, was an essential prerequisite for Alaska's entry into the leisure market with flight to Mexico, and also allowed the carrier to seasonally stretch its route network from Anchorage to destinations in the midwest of the lower 48.
The MD-82/83 served Alaska until 2008, only overshadowed once by the tragic loss of MD-82 N936AS off the Pacific Coast in January 2000, following a structural failure of the tail fin assembly and subsequent loss of control. The MD-80s were replaced with the Boeing 737NG that started coming in, turning Alaska into the claimed «Proudly All Boeing» operator.
However, actually even today, the claim does not hold water by 100%: The two feeder partners Horizon Air - a subsidiary of Alaska Airlines - and SkyWest both fly substantial fleets of Brasilian built Embraer 170 jets in full Alaska Airlines markings and on behalf of Alaska Airlines, thereby at least scratching the «All» in the «Proudly All Boeing» claim.
Oh, of course, I already hear my fellow wannabe legal consultants: «But of course the statement is 100% correct - McDonnell Douglas and Boeing have long since merged, and wasn't Boeing also about to finalise the deal to take-over Embraer right before the MAX was grounded, the pandemic hit and all business models went down the chute?» Yeah, yeah, good point, Dr. Watson, but it still is a fleet of McDonnell Douglas built MD-80s, and of Embraer built E170s that add(ed) substantial capacity and variety to the claimed all Boeing 737 single fleet.

Brazil’s Embraer, Morocco pen cooperation deal
The memorandum of understanding provides for the launch of joint projects in commercial aviation, urban air mobility, and the defense sector.
Tumblr media
Brazilian planemaker Embraer and the government of Morocco signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday (30) at the Marrakesh Air Show in Marrakesh, covering defense, commercial aviation, and urban air mobility. According to a statement from the Brazilian company, both parties have identified business opportunities that can yield results for both sides in the short and long term.
The partnership, Embraer reported, considers the development of an ecosystem in Morocco aimed at fostering innovation, economic growth, and job creation. The project envisions the development of training, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of aircraft and may explore collaborations that include research and development, particularly in decarbonization, clean mobility, sustainable aviation fuel, and sustainable aviation.
The Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour said the partnership positions Morocco as “a key player in the global aerospace industry,” marks an evolution in the local industry, and attracts investments from global industry leaders. “The agreement will catalyze a deeper synergy between Morocco and the major industry leader, Embraer, accelerating our shared ambitions and unlocking potential for groundbreaking achievements in aerospace,” he said.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said he wanted a return to a tariff-free agreement for civil aviation.Airbus has struck a deal with Vietnamese budget airline Vietjet for up to 150 single-aisle jets at the Paris Air Show as the aviation industry’s hopes to return to a tariff-free trade agreement were given a boost by United States Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. The French planemaker announced the deal on Tuesday. Airbus is the main supplier of jets to Vietnam, accounting for 86 percent of the planes currently operated by Vietnamese airlines. The export-dependent Southeast Asian country is under pressure from Washington to buy more US goods. Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao said the scale of the airline’s orders was backed by plans to develop a major aviation hub in Vietnam, which Airbus says has seen its aviation market grow by 7.5 percent a year. A deal for 150 A321neos could be worth around $9.4bn, according to estimated prices provided by Cirium Ascend. The agreement was the latest in a flurry of business announced by Airbus at the world’s biggest aviation trade fair in Paris, France. Airbus has made gains against its chief competitor Boeing as airlines reconsider purchases of the US-made jets amid ongoing tariff threats in recent months. In May, budget airline Ryanair threatened to pull orders of Boeing aircraft amid tariff threats. A tariff truce? Duffy said he wanted civil aviation to return to a 1979 zero-tariff trade agreement, in one of the clearest signs yet that the administration of US President Donald Trump might favour such a move. However, Duffy added that while the White House was aware that the US is a net exporter in aerospace, it was also dealing with a complex tariff situation. Advertisement “Now, again, you look at what free trade has done for aviation. It’s been remarkable for them. It’s a great space of net exporters,” Duffy said. “And so the White House understands that, but if you go over there and you see the moving parts of what they’re dealing with, it is pretty intense and it’s a lot.” Trump’s sweeping 10 percent import tariffs are a headache for an industry already battling supply chain challenges and facing fresh turbulence from last week’s deadly Air India crash and conflict in the Middle East. In early May, the US Commerce Department launched a “Section 232” national security investigation into imports of commercial aircraft, jet engines and parts that could form the basis for even higher tariffs on such imports. Airlines, planemakers and several US trading partners have been lobbying Trump to restore the tariff-free regime under the 1979 agreement. Boeing was having a subdued show and parking announcements while focusing on the probe into last week’s fatal crash of an Air India Boeing 787 and after it racked up huge deals during Trump’s recent tour of the Middle East. Attention turned to another big Airbus customer, AirAsia, long associated with buzzy show finales and looking at buying 100 A220s, with Brazil’s Embraer seeking to wrest away the deal after losing a key contest in Poland, delegates said. Airbus was also expected to reveal Egyptair as the airline behind a recent unidentified order for six more A350s. Even so, Airbus’s hopes of using the event as a showcase for its first significant deal with Royal Air Maroc faded after the airline postponed plans to announce a larger Boeing deal, delegates said.

President Trump clinched a sweeping package of U.S.-Qatar agreements worth at least $1.2 trillion, spanning aviation, defense and next-gen tech.
Tumblr media
A $96 billion Boeing-GE deal for up to 210 Dreamliner and 777X jets headlines the package, the planemaker's biggest wide-body order ever and one expected to support more than a million U.S. jobs during production and delivery.
Qatar is also channeling billions to U.S. defense giants, from Raytheon's first overseas sale of its FS-LIDS counter-drone system to a nearly $2 billion MQ-9B drone buy from General Atomics, all framed by a $38 billion security-partnership roadmap. Additional partnerships come in the form of accords like McDermott's LNG build-out and $1 billion Quantinuum quantum-tech venture.

airsLLide No. 2356: YI-AGK, Boeing 727-270 Adv., Iraqi Airways, London-Heathrow, July 15, 1988.
YI-AGK is one of six Boeing 727-200 Advanced the Seattle planemaker delivered new to the Iraqi flag-carrier between 1976 and 1982. Iraqi used the mid-range jets regularly on flights to Europe as well as within the Middle East, thus its presence above Hunslow on finals to Heathrow can be explained with the daily schedule from Baghdad.
In the course of the first Gulf War following the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait, some of these trijets were evacuated abroad and ultimately left to collect dust, literally, while others were destroyed in the war. Golf Kilo here was evacuated to Amman and put into storage. There it remained, until she was eventually broken-up when her condition deteriorated further.
After the two Gulf Wars, though, Iraqi leased various Boeing 727s from other carriers to restart flying. Mostly this happened via intermediaries in Africa or the Middle East. Those units however did no longer get the classic, green top look of the original birds.

Czechia agrees to buy Embraer's C-390 aircraft
Tumblr media
The Czech Republic has become the latest member of NATO to place an order with Brazilian planemaker Embraer for two C-390 Millennium transport aircraft. The Netherlands, Hungary, and Portugal already have the C-390 as part of their fleet, as do Austria, Brazil, and South Korea.
Furthermore, there are strong indications that Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, and Chile will also become users of the C-390.
Embraer is also in talks with India, where it will participate in a bidding process against other competitors for the sale of 80 models, and Saudi Arabia, which could order up to 33 planes.
The value of the Czech purchase was undisclosed, though the country had approved a budget of CZK 11.3 billion (USD 480 million) for acquiring the aircraft earlier this month.
