I have a lot of silly feelings about this fic + its prequel. Waaay too many and far too shameless to put in the end notes on AO3. Consider this the dvd commentary for anyone who would like to listen to my rambling.

I. the working title

This fic was originally supposed to be called amor fati ("love of one's fate"), and Nine Lives to be the overall series name. I nixed it because two Latin titles back-to-back would have been too confusing.

Writers always put a little bit of themselves into their work. Tav and Rugan in this story both have a bit of my younger self in them. I'm glad I got to give them a hopeful ending :)

Last Movie: Godzilla Minus One Minus Color. I had watched zero Godzilla moves before this one, but I grew up watching black-and-white WWII movies about the naval battles of the Pacific Theater (my dad's kind of movies). The style of this movie in black and white, the method of shooting, and the acting put me so much in mind of those, I believe that callback was intentional. I also loved seeing the other side of WWII, of the reaction to losing, shot in the same style as all those movies depicting the winners, and the way the aftermath interrogated the wisdom of the imperialism that drove Japan to get involved to begin with. Plus the way Godzilla's breath attack echoed the bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. There's way more; I could go on.

Currently Reading: What the Hell Did I Just Read by David Wong (Jason Pargin). I just learned this week of the existence of the sequel, If This Book Exists, You're in the Wrong Universe, so I'm giving this one a reread to remind myself what the everloving hell happened before starting the next one.

Currently Watching: Blue Eye Samurai. My beloved. It's a rewatch because we finished A Crown of Candy and blitzed through Hazbin Hotel and Fallout, so we're hitting this one again before going on to The Ravening War, the prequel to A Crown of Candy.

Currently Craving: Sausage. Or just some real, filling food. Oh look, it's lunchtime. That's why.

Coffee or Tea: Coffee. Tea is...fine. I've learned to be okay with hot tea. But coffee is best.

Nature walk music incoming, a huge tune from Plantrae for you peeps to devour. I'm loving the whimsical melodic elements and the metamorphosis the tune takes on over its playback life. When I first heard this track I definitely got the chrysalid vibes so I tried to find a visual I could make into some trippy butterfly wing pattern.
