It’s unbelievable and unimaginable how much plastic, atomic waste and other materials will still be found in thousands of years on this little planet. This might last even longer than humanity existed. Our imagination is amazingly small compared to the fall out and waste earth has to face. Do you know what Fast Fashion is? You might want to investigate. Fast Fashion is how the majority of the clothing and fashion industries choose to do business. It's become public knowledge that many products are built to have a short life span, forcing consumers to by more. After the Industrial Revolution the Clothing Industry was created. Textiles (Fabrics) could be made much faster and in larger quantities. Tailors/seamstresses began to be able to make clothing that was less expensive for the lower classes. Eventually Fashion Designers became celebrities. At first there was two times a year new clothing styles were rotated, spring and fall. Now there a four or or more times a year retailers will change out their stock. People throw out their old clothes, or donate them, to buy the newest fashions. Along with this, fabrics are now made with plastics. TLDR: More clothes are saturating the market, designed to wear out as quickly as possible, containing non-compostable plastics, with environmentally devastating practices. On Wednesday, June 6th, @nygovcuomo will be voting on a ban of plastics bags! 🌿So here is my ask: On Wednesday, June 6th, or even before, call Governor Cuomo’s offices and urge him to ban the single-use plastic bag AND place a fee on alternative bags by supporting S7760/A9953, the ‘New York Bring Your Own Bag Act’. 🐋 Evidence demonstrates that plastic bag laws help reduce pollution in waterways. Los Angeles County experienced a 94 percent decline in plastic bag usage and a 30 percent reduction in paper bag usage after a ban on plastic and a 10-cent fee on paper went into effect. Plastic bag policies in the United Kingdom have led to almost a 30 percent reduction in plastic bag pollution found on the floor of the North Sea. 🙌🏼 Initial evidence from 2017, the first year after California’s first in the nation ban went into effect, shows a nearly 4.2 percent reduction from 2010 in plastic bags found on beaches statewide. Angefangen hat alles in meinem Urlaub auf Thailand 2018. Nach sieben Jahren mein erster Urlaub und ich wollte mir hier meinen Kindheitstraum erfüllen; Tauchen. In die wunderschöne Unterwasserwelt auf kohtao eintauchen. Seit meiner Kindheit faszinierte mich diese Welt mit ihren Farben und Lebewesen. Und als ich endlich dort war und am Strand spazieren ging, sah ich Müll und tote Tiere. Die wunderschönen Fische, verstrickt mit Plastik. Ich war so erschüttert und traurig über dieses Bild, das mir mein Traum plötzlich egal war. Was bedeutet das schon? Ich bin ja nicht die einzige mit diesem Traum und das Ergebnis dieser Wünsche der Menschen ist die Zerstörun des wunderbaren. Es ist nichts neues, ich weiß. Und dennoch hat es mich sehr erschüttert. Ich fühlte mich hilflos und überfordert. Ich war über die Tage meines Urlaubs schon irritiert das bei jedem Einkauf alles in Plastiktüten verpackt wurde, selbst eine einzelne Flasche Plastik, oder ein Plastik Becher Obst und Plastikgabel. An diesem Abend erreichte mich dann auch noch folgende Nachricht aus Deutschland von einem Freund: "Wal stirbt mit mehr als 80 Plastiktüten im Magen." Ich bin zwar froh über meinen ersten mir selbst geleisteten Urlaub und all die Erkenntnisse und auch schönen Momente die er mir beschert hat, aber es hat doch auch eine zerrissene hinterlassen. Der Flug, der Müll, die Tiere und Menschen, die darunter leiden... das inzwischen schon alte Lied. Ich versuche zu tun was ich kann um diese Welt mit meiner Kapazität und Kraft die übrig bleibt ein bisschen besser zu machen. Gefühlt, lange nicht genug.
