Wayfarer Dev Log 2022.05.03.

Hi friends,

It's go time, crunch month, etc.! April was another extremely month as I wrapped up drafting Episode 2. I wrote just shy of 90,000 words last month (...is that why I'm tired? Probably) and finished writing Episode 2's content, including all the new codex entries.

I have started coding the new material into the alpha build, beginning with a UI update to fix some background issues with menu navigation. This UI update will be released to the public build later in May with Patch 1.6.

The update will break the companion and faction profile displays (they will display the wrong information and you will be able to click on the ones you shouldn't have access to) until you hit the end of Episode 1. If you want the correct information displayed in your Episode 1 playthrough, you will need to start a new save file when the patch comes out.

The alpha version of Episode 2 will be complete sometime next week. It will be exclusively available on Patreon until its public release (date TBD).

Because I am coding a massive amount of material right now, I am not answering coding questions or Twine help for the first two weeks of May. My inbox will stay open for all other types of questions.

some tips for writing blogs, especially those who are just starting out. these are some things that works for me and may or may not work for others.

how to add a read more link on mobile

type :readmore: on a free space, then hit the enter or return button

personally i think they’re very helpful because it lessens the space you take up in your dash, and might encourage more people to rb

+ you can also add this on a spot where it gives a sort of cliffhanger, essentially making people want to ‘read more’

headers, banners, and dividers

though not necessary, it’s good to have a title for your work. make sure it’s bold and doesn’t blend in with your notes (aka pairing, warnings, etc.). this also helps when someone wants to look up one of your works in your search bar

i don’t really make banners or covers for my works. but some good apps that i know of would be picsart and canva. if you’re looking for ideas, i definitely recommend going into canva

wondering how to make those really small, thin dividers? you can make them using picsart! to make a divider hit tools > free crop > brush > size (adjust it to your preference > then draw a line along the edge of your photo > save

using the divider you just saved, go back to picsart and edit it again > draw option > hit rainbow square at the bottom left corner > hit suction/droplet symbol right below the check mark > color in the white spots bc for some reason picsart glitches and makes dividers look white-ish

new blog? just opened an account?

this is gonna sound really frustrating. but... tumblr needs to check if you’re a bot or not. what does this mean? it’s likely that your first few posts won’t show up on the search bar. you may not even get to edit your header/pfp yet ://

this happened to me and there was no visibility on my account at ALL. what helped me get ‘verified’ is that i followed a LOT of accounts, liked a bunch of posts, made some posts here and there. now that lets tumblr know you’re not a bot

the tumblr tagging system usually only allows the first 5 tags in your post to show up. so, what can do you about this? only use FIVE or less tags in your post. wait about 15 minutes or more until you can add some more tags in your post, and they usually all show up like that

another important thing about using tags is not to generalize! especially if you’re using a popular tag. but also don’t specify it too much where barely anyone looks it up. for example, if you’re writing a gn piece about oikawa, i recommend you use the tags such as: oikawa x reader, haikyuu x reader, oikawa x gn!reader, haikyuu headcanons, etc

a good rule of thumb is to use character x reader tags first, then leave the full name or fandom tag last

FOR NSFW: tumblr doesn’t let any tags with nsfw show up. so, give your nsfw works another tag. maybe #namegetspicy idk, you figure it out

FOR WARNINGS: especially if you’re a dark content creator, i highly encourage you to add tw:xyz tags. if you already have a warning note at the top then that’s great. but even better for readers who prefer to actually block these tags that way they never get to see it

another important thing to note is that people have different timezones. it helps if you rb your work at a different time of the day, in case people missed it! (icymi) i’ve noticed that reblogging helps to make your post show up in the tags

interaction + feedback

first and foremost, you are not obligated to write for your followers, and neither are your followers obligated to interact with you. remember that everyone has their own individual lives, and they have their own things to do— so do you, too.

make friends! become mutuals with other writers, visit their ask box. i know it can be daunting having to initiate these things, but you might just turn out to have fun! you can’t expect people to interact with you if you’re not interacting (back). it’s... kind of a two way thing yk? no need to be afraid to interact with other writers. oh, and rb other writers works!

pspsps join tag games or do ask games. it’s fun and very interactive

it never hurts to ask for feedback. i usually do this in a more subtle way because i don’t really expect a full on analysis on my works. maybe a little, is this okay? or feedback appreciated. sometimes it takes a little bit of coaxing for the silent readers

formatting your posts and blog

i generally put in the title at the top in big, bold letters

then comes the header/divider. helps to make the post more... visually appealing ig?

it’s important to add warnings (if any) and the pairing. the audience is not all female, and it might be a little frustrating for male readers having to find out its an x fem reader piece like halfway through your fic

if you have multiple works posted, it’s really really helpful to have a navigation page!

you can organize the posts you make with tags! for example, if you’re shitposting, you can use a specific tag for that. if you have a nsfw related post (ESPECIALLY when your blog is open to the general audience) please make a tag for it

themes + colors

if you have a color in mind but don’t know which direction to go from there, i recommend looking up color + aesthetic

looking to use the same color? download a name color app that’ll give you a hex code for any color you want to use. then, you can type in that hex code for when you’re choosing a color for your tumblr bio

wondering how to make your header image small like mine? just choose a photo for your header and turn off the stretch image option

want to use a different text color that tumblr doesn’t offer? it’s not as complicated as you think. you’ll have to go on a desktop to do this and do some html (but trust me, it’s not very difficult). look up “HTML noob but trying my best - how to use colored text on desktop”

^^ i don’t have the link for the color text tutorial so you can try looking it up

how to make an aesthetic navi and masterlist

step 1: decide a theme! if you’re stuck, think about a character + color/season/mood or look up “[insert] aesthetic” to find some inspiration. or you can try looking at other blogs too

step 2: find a color scheme! it’s easier if you choose fewer colors. if you want to use the same color for both divider and text, download a color name app in order to get the hex code of that color.

step 3: add categories to your navi! most navigation pages include a link to masterlist, about/byi, and rules. your navi should have a title that indicates that it’s... a navigation page. you can add thin colored dividers with the same color to make it easier for followers to navigate

step 4: you can choose to create a ‘cover’ or a picture for your navigation and masterlist! again, i recommend you use the canva app as a starting point

extra: search up emoticon symbols to spice up your titles!

reminder for you as a writer

you’re not obligated to do any of these things. i’ve noticed that we tend to build pressure on ourselves when it comes to content and interaction. remember, this !! is !! for !! fun !! when you realize that it’s no longer fun, then know that it’s time to take a break. and there’s nothing wrong with a bit of self care.

That’s what the navbar looked like on Jim’s screen. We zoomed in on the screen of his computer, and shifted to Jim’s dissatisfied face. He glanced at us through the camera, as if to say “This is what I get paid to do.”

Suddenly the door behind him burst open. It was Michael Scott, who looked eager as always, but especially so recently, with the ongoing web development project from corporate going on. ("Corporate has finally begun to understand my enginuity [sic],” he told Jim.)

“Jim, Jim, Jim. Jimmy-boy,” Michael chirped. “What’s the status on the website? I can’t access it on my computer.”

“Well, the site isn’t online yet, since I still need to buy a hosting name and a domain service,” Jim said.

Dwight, who sits beside Jim, dramatically leaned back in his chair. “Domain name and hosting service, Jim. Please. Which idiot had the great idea to give you the file management role?” He said this with a smirk, looking right at Jim’s face as if to challenge him.

Jim’s reply was quick. “Actually, that would be Michael,” he said with a tiny smile.

Michael and Jim stared at Dwight. Jim was smug, but was good at hiding it. Michael, however, was clearly offended. Dwight was stunned to silence.

We asked Pam Beesly, the receptionist, about her take on the web development assignment.

“Scranton has been working on our company website for at least two weeks now,” Pam said to us in an interview. “When corporate told us about it, we were a bit nervous, but Michael, being Michael, took the job right away. There was one problem - no one in Scranton has any coding experience. Well, Oscar actually has a good amount, but he’s on vacation.”

She paused, as if she just realized something.

“Come to think of it, the day he announced his vacation was the day we got the assignment,” Pam said, her eyes wide with realization. “That bastard!”

Apparently, Scranton was struggling for a while to figure out where to even start with this assignment. Michael had been too afraid to give corporate a call on this matter, for fear of sounding “unprofessional,” according to Pam. Yesterday was their first breakthrough when Dwight discovered what HTML was. However, they seemed to have hit another wall.

Michael called a meeting later that day, and the members of the Scranton branch filed into the cramped meeting room, took seats around the table, and waited for Michael to speak.

“Web development!” Michael exclaimed once everyone had taken their seats. “Now, I know the last few days have been tough. Corporate wants this website done by tomorrow. However, fear not - I have come up with a solution. I have a very special guest today to give us the works on web-dev. He is my compadre, my very close friend - please welcome, over the phone, Oscar Martinez!”

There was no applause to Michael’s grandiose introduction. Phyllis spoke up:

“Michael, you can’t bother Oscar. He’s on vacation.”

“Phyllis, we are in a state of emergency,” Michael said. “and emergent times call for emergent measures. I’ll dial his cell.”

The conference phone in the middle of the table rang a few times, but went to voicemail. Michael called again. Again, it went to voicemail. He tried again, and then again. This went on for about 30 minutes, while the members of Dunder Mifflin Scranton sat around awkwardly, save Michael, who mumbled under his breath with each call, unable to accept defeat. 

“Michael’s meetings are the times when you appreciate the 9-5 the most,” Jim told us later that day. “Everyone is just so productive!”

Finally, after a few more minutes of failed calls, Oscar finally picked up the phone. His greeting was met with cheers from the Scranton branch.

“Hi guys,” Oscar said, clearly trying to hide his annoyance.

Michael spoke. “So Oscar, the team and I are very interested in learning HTML.” He pronounced HTML “hittimul”, as if it were one word. “So, how about you let us in on a few trade secrets on making a navbar?”

Oscar sounded confused. “Hittimul? You mean HTML? Look, I can’t give you a blow-by-blow over the phone right now.”

Michael snorted and turned to the camera. “That’s what she said,” he whispered. He was smiling his usual awkward smile, as if expecting us to laugh.

Oscar went on: “But I suggest that you guys use Bootstrap if you’re really stuck. It’s an open-source framework that takes care of a lot of the finer HTML details for you. Look up the documentation online, it has some built-in styling for navigation bars. You just gotta make an unordered list, and classify it as a navbar. I don’t have the exact details, but it should all be online. I’d also recommend making use of the grid system, in order to automatically style your elements nicely. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go now.” There was a beep and he hung up.

Michael clapped his hands together. “You heard the man. Let’s get Bootstrapping!” He said with enthusiasm. 

Unfortunately, all the time they spent in the meeting meant that it was well after 5 o’clock. Immediately after leaving the room, Stanley turned to leave the office. A few others followed suit.

The Pros and Cons of Various HP Fan Fiction Websites

Posting on FFnet

Pros:

Largest and most popular fan fiction website… like… in the world

Has an official app that makes downloading fics super easy

You can have ‘book covers’ for your fics

You can create polls

Has in-site PM feature

Very user friendly posting process

Interest can be determined via reader reviews, favs, and follows

Can be posted immediately (no wait times or approval process)

Communities for collecting fics

Best analytics of any fan fiction site

Allows saved drafts

Cons:

384 character max for fic summary… brevity is not one of my virtues

Any author notes, foot notes, chapter notes, etc. are part of the chapter and thus they affect the word count

You can’t rearrange the order of the chapters

Tagging is practically non-existant, limited to characters (with a max of four characters)… of these, you can only do (duo) pairings (no triads)

Keeps having these weird glitches that mess up my update notifications

Allows anonymous guest reviews, of which I’m not a fan… anonymity can lead to flaming drama… and I don’t mean the genre…

Formatting is extremely basic… meh

You can’t do anything resembling links… I once had a chapter that was supposed to be an email thread… the email addresses had to be typed out as name (at) domain (dot) com… shudder

Can’t post above a ‘M’ rating

Comments (their “reviews”) are done as messaging threads by named users… like the threads (they’re more interactive than just plain reviews) and the lack of anonymity cuts down on the flaming drama

Several search list sorting options

Formatting options are amazing… like… even superscript… amazing (but to use these more advanced formats, you need to know your coding)

Separate chapter summaries, chapter notes, and end notes (all useful to determine an accurate word count)

Interest can be determined via reader comments, kudos (their “likes”), bookmarks, and page hits (guests/anons can only leave kudos)

Can be posted immediately (no wait times or approval process)

Mostly used for one-shots… can have multi-chapter fics, but I’ve only had that done for me with a submission that was part of a fest… I poked around once but still have no idea how to that myself on my own LJ page

Haven’t even figured out how the analytics work

No saving of drafts

Posting on Wattpad

disclaimer: this is based on previous experience. I removed all of my fics from this site because I didn’t like the display… completely a personal preference.

Pros:

Great mobile app (most readers access the site via the app)

Mainly original fiction

disclaimer: this is based on previous experience. I removed all of my fics from this site after a chapter update to my P&P parody fic was rejected due to it violating their ToS (it too closely resembled Jane’s Austen’s original story).

Reviews are done as messaging threads

Decent formatting options

All Harry Potter fan fics

Cons:

Upload process was confusing at first

disclaimer: this is based on previous experience. I removed all of my fics from this site because I kept having difficulties just simply trying to log into my account on my preferred web browser.

Pros:

Posting adult content fics that wouldn’t be accepted on other archives

Cons:

The search function and tagging systems are antiquated… most fics I found were spread by word of mouth recommendations

On a restricted/blocked domain in many locations

The formatting options are a hassle

Upload process is significantly less user friendly and confusing

Give AO3 a Chance

Back in January, Odylism put out this call to fanfic writers in the community she writes for (the Campaign Podcast--go check it out guys). The TLDR message was: Please archive on AO3.  Tumblr is ephemeral. AO3 is a bit more permanent. The rest of her message is below:

What is AO3?

AO3 is the Archive of Our Own. It is the big pan-fandom fan controlled fan fiction archive. Essentially, anyone can go and post fanfic there for others to read and enjoy. It is controlled by a non-profit, the Organization for Transformative Works.

Why are you begging me?

Because I love fandom and fic. Anyone who’s been in fandom a while can tell you of the great amounts of fic that have been lost over the years. Fanfic archives have evaporated. LJ has blacked out content they didn’t like. Geocities came tumbling down. Tumblr is what we’re on now, but anyone who’s tried to go back and search for something six months later can tell you that tumblr is hard to pin down. If you don’t have something bookmarked, it can be impossible to find again. Even if you did bookmark it, you have to pray that person didn’t change their URL.

AO3 was established with the purpose of having a central repository for fanfic that’s stable. It’s been the major repository of fanfic for a while now.

Why should I archive? It’s just dumb/less than 100 words/totally silly/terribly written.

Fanfic is important. Your fanfic is important. I couldn’t begin to describe all of the silly junk I’ve written or read over the years. Not everything has to be perfect serious canon longfic. Each fic, from epic to drabble, paints a picture of the fandom at the time when it was written. AO3 helps us capture that history. I want to be able to go back and read fic (both the serious stuff and the silly AUs) long after Tumblr has gone the way of the dodos. AO3 also has the benefit of being searchable. If I’m in the mood for a certain story, I can go on AO3 and search for exactly that.

What do I need to do to archive on AO3?

For those who want serious instructions, AO3 has an official FAQ that’s helpful.

First, you need to register for an account. If you’re a chameleon person who changes their handle with every new moon, that’s okay. You can add additional pseudonyms after you register. You can go here to register. It does require an invitation code, but they send those out fairly quickly. If you’re not willing to wait, you can usually find someone on here who has one laying around.

Next, you need to post your fic on AO3. When posting a story to AO3, you have to pick a title and tags. Some tags are obvious (characters, relationships, warnings). If one of those tags is missing from the archive, you can add it. The additional tags can take some nuance, but are great for indicating tropes or trigger warnings. AO3 allows users to format their stories using HTML or a rich text editor. I’m an old and always just put together my HTML myself, so I can’t speak to how good/bad the rich text editor is. Once you’ve formatted, you will be shown a preview of the story before you post so you can check everything one last time.

Last, you wait. People can give feedback on AO3 in two ways: kudos and comments. Kudos are a little button people can press at the end of a chapter or story to signal that they enjoyed the work. Comments are when people leave actual written comments on your story. AO3 doesn’t have a great comment culture, but it isn’t any worse than tumblr.

I don’t write fan fiction, but I want to comment/leave kudos/bookmark stories.

Great! You can comment and leave kudos without an account, but I really recommend getting one. Some users don’t allow anon comments or restrict their stories to only logged in users. Bookmarking is only available to registered users.

I’m sorry about that. Obviously, I have a lot of feelings about fic and the preservation of fandom. Being on AO3 is a great way to preserve fic and make it searchable.

I’ve been seeing a lot of small fics for Stranger Things not being crossposted to AO3 and I don’t know if that’s for lack of an account or disinterest in posting. I appreciate all the amazing fic that I’ve had the privilege to read on Tumblr, but Tumblr doesn’t allow for bookmarking, save my personal bookmarks (and I know I’m not the only person who has experienced the sinking feeling of clicking on a blog after someone’s changed their url or deleted their blog). In an addition to the original post, “Tumblr is a good way to meet friends and spread the word about new things, but a terrible terrible way to post and archive fanfic. Who knows if tumblr will even be here in a few years, being sold to new companies and subject to new corporate mandates.”

Love Trough Universes

Work for @girogirl723. It’s a bit shorter than I like- it’s only +/- 3k, but with the deadline looming, I decided to keep it somewhat short. I hope it suffice as a present- and that the editing isn’t too poor as I’m rather tired when I’m uploading this. Per usual, this is just a comment and doesn’t needs to be added to the text. Next to that I still struggle with the formatting of Tumblr- where is the HTML coding? Anyway- this will also be posted on AO3 on Valentine’s day, so just to give you a heads up.

I – “I need a Pilot.”

“The lord has sent me to fetch the prisoner.”

Yuuri’s eyes fluttered open as his restraints were released. He wasn’t ready for more- everything did hurt and he was mentally drained. He was surprised that he hadn’t given in already- his flying skills somehow were top-notch, but his mental abilities weren’t. How he hadn’t managed to pry the information from Yuuri’s feeble brain, the pilot didn’t know.

A blaster was pressed against his back, and he was pushed through the corridors by one of the Stormtrooper. Maybe he could make a run for it. He never had flown a TIE Fighter before, but he surely would manage. Flying was flying after all.

As if sensing Yuuri’s rapidly devolving escape plan, the Stormtrooper pushed him into a small room- a closet probably. Stumbling, Yuuri expected the worse. He was going to be killed on the spot, the Stormtrooper probably had a personal bone to pick with him. Maybe Yuuri had killed his buddies while he was defending himself back on Jakku.

“Please listen,” the Stormtrooper pleaded, his voice muffled by his helmet. “If you do as I say, I can get you out of here.”

Panic surged through every vein of his body. What was going on? Was the Stormtrooper with the Resistance? Yuuri doubted that- the lord would have noticed if something was off- Stormtroopers were brainwashed men and women- only the best actors off actors could pull that off. Unsurprisingly, most of the Resistance members weren’t great actors.

“What?” Yuuri eventually croaked.

The Stormtrooper took off his helmet, showing a handsome face. Silver hair, bright blue eyes who were filled to the brim with worry. “Can you fly a TIE Fighter?” he asked hurriedly, fidgeting on the spot.

“I can fly everything,” Yuuri breathed, taken aback by the man’s beauty. “I mean- flying is flying,” he added in a stutter, cheeks flushed red. “I surely can fly a TIE Fighter.”

There was a brief moment of silence. “Why are you helping me?” Yuuri eventually asked, not able to shake off the feeling of unease. Why would a Stormtrooper help him?

The Stormtrooper nervously licked his lips. “Because it’s the right thing to do, I guess,” he mumbled, still fidgeting.

Suddenly, as someone flicked on the light, Yuuri understood. Why else would the Stormtrooper explicitly free him? Other prisoners are probably as willing as Yuuri was to escape. Instead, this Stormtrooper had decided to help someone who was important to the Resistance- someone who held important information, an important prisoner. What made Yuuri different from all the other prisoners that were kept there? He could fly.

“You need a pilot,” Yuuri felt slightly smug, particularly as the man’s eyes grew wide with surprise.

“I need a pilot,” the Stormtrooper confirms, his face flustered.

II – “Can I have this Dance?”

A cheerful beat echoed through the room, bouncing off the walls and buzzing in his ears. People were waltzing through the large ballroom, men and women dancing hand-in-hand, having the time of their lives.

Yuuri carefully twirled his dance partner around, afraid he would step on her toes. She was a beautiful woman, with a pale face that was flustered, soft brown eyes and matching hair. However, she wasn’t them, the person of his dreams.

To be fair, Yuuri wasn’t sure if the person of his dreams was real. He knew very little about them- all he knew were the piercing blue eyes that haunted his dreams. Yuuri guesses it was a male, as they always looked down upon him, meaning he probably was taller than Yuuri. The person’s eyes were always bright with the desire of living, something that was different from the dull, royal life Yuuri had been living.

After a few more minutes, the song ended, and the two bade each other farewell. Yuuri knew that the woman had realised she wasn’t the one he was looking for- but at least he had a fun time. She at least hadn’t forced herself upon him, something he couldn’t say about his last two dance partners.

Feeling the need to take a breather, Yuuri gave his personal butler and best friend a heads-up. Phichit offered him a bright smile and gave him the go-ahead. The man immediately continued his conversation with a fellow staff member, who, in Yuuri’s opinion, didn’t exactly seemed to appreciate Phichit’s enthusiasm. However, the faint blush crossing the man’s cheek didn’t seemed to be something that Yuuri was imaging.

Fixing up his clothes, Yuuri sneaked outside. The starry sky greeted him heartedly. It was a cloudless sky- something that wasn’t exactly common in his country.

Wandering through the well-kept garden, his heart stuttered when he saw a lone figure sitting on one of the benches. The man- Yuuri assumed it was a man consider the broad build- had long, silver hair and pale skin that peaked between the long strands of hair. Was this them? Was this him?

Letting his gaze lingering, Yuuri eventually decided to just try. Even if it wasn’t them, he at least would get the opportunity by meeting new people. Not that he was a people person- but one had no choice if they wanted to find the person of their dreams.

“Would you mind if I join you?” Yuuri asked carefully, keeping a safe distance between himself and the stranger.

The man hummed and gestured to the empty spot on the bench.

Calming his nerves, Yuuri sat down next to the man, carefully glancing at him. The stranger was buried nose deep in a book, long lashes hiding the colour of the man’s eyes, which was a real shame. The colour was very important.

Noting the eerie silence, Yuuri tried to get a conversation going. This was easier said than done. While he was a prince, trained to be polite and easy-going, he was still a stuttering mess when he had to converse with people. “Not in the mood to dance?”

That was very, very lame way to start a conversation.

“Not really,” the man answered curtly, his eyes glued to the book. “A family friend wanted to come- as every maiden in the country was invited. I’m just here to keep an eye on her.”

Laughter rolled off his tongue before Yuuri even had realised it. “Well, you’re keeping a good eye on her- if she is your book.”

A soft chuckle passed the man’s mouth, and after dog-earing the page, he closed the book. “That’s fair,” the man admitted.

Once again, a silence fell, but it was more comfortable. “You aren’t in the mood to dance either?” the silver-haired man carefully asked.

“Not exactly,” Yuuri admitted. “I’m still waiting for the right one.”

This, somehow, seemed to catch the man’s interest. For the first time, he looked up, his gaze crossing Yuuri’s. It was them. No, him. He had found the man who haunted his dreams.

“That’s pretty poetic,” the man mentioned. “Also being dragged here by a sibling?”

Yuuri shook his head. “No, I, well…” he murmured. “I- well… I live here.”

It took the man a brief moment to let the words sink in. “You’re one of the royals?” he asked astonished.

“You could say that.”

A squeak escaped the man’s lips, and he made a half-assed attempt on bowing. “Your Majesty.”

Yuuri chuckled and shook his head. Carefully, almost afraid it was too good to be true, he placed his hand’s on the other man’s hand. “Yuuri- Yuuri is just fine,” he muttered.

The starry sky beautifully reflected in the man’s blue eyes. “Victor- I’m Victor.”

III – By Your Side

Yuuri breathed shallowly as he runs from rooftop to rooftop. He had lost sight of his target a while ago- but he knew that his instincts wouldn’t let him down. It also helped that Sailor Mercury was an excellent tracker- he probably would find the enemy in no time at all.

Noticing his staff flickering, Yuuri skittling to an abrupt halt. He hurriedly grabbed his weapon, clutched his flickering staff with his gloved hand. A few seconds later, a hologram of Sailor Mercury popped up. The blue-cladded Sailor Scout was grinning his trademark grin, a pair of blue goggles making him almost unrecognisable.

“She’s two blocks east of you, Sailor Moon,” Sailor Mercury announced, offering Yuuri a reassuring grin.

“Thanks, Em- I mean, Sailor Mercury,” Yuuri returned.

“No problem!” Sailor Mercury sing songs and the hologram disappeared.

Alone once again, Yuuri took a few, calming breaths before turning left, following the directions Sailor Mercury had given him.

Cold air whipped around his cheeks and bare arms, sending shivers down his spine. Dust and dirt were stinging his eyes, but Yuuri didn’t slow down to get rid of the nuisance. Having magical powers and all are nice- but couldn’t they take the cold weather in consideration when creating the costumes? Maybe, safety glasses wouldn’t be a bad idea- though Yuuri also easily could trade his contacts for his glasses if necessary. Maybe something he should do in the future.

Two blocks down, Yuuri noticed that someone was following him. Tall, probably a man and- oh. It was him.

A man dressed in a tuxedo landed next to him on the roof. Long silver hair danced in the wind. Beauty blue eyes were hidden behind a white mask, an easy-going smile played on the man’s lips.

“Fancy seeing you here,” the man said chipper. Yuuri briefly acknowledged the man and they continued. His target- no, their target couldn’t be far away. Unless the possessed some inhuman speed, which was, honestly, not even too farfetched.

“I could say the same,” Yuuri breathed, easing into the same rhythm as the other man had. “What brings you here, Tuxedo Mask?”

The man grinned. “My job, as usual,” there was a brief pause. “What brings you here, Sailor Moon?”

“The same reason as you,” Yuuri grinned, looking up the man’s brilliant blue eyes. “My job.”

An easy silence fell between them. Yuuri had no idea when Tuxedo Mask had come into his life and fulfilled his part. Though, to be fair, nowadays it seemed that the masked man always had been there for him- helping him out in a tight spot, supporting him. However, the man was far from invincible, and occasionally, Yuuri had been able to return the favour and saving the man’s ass.

“I was wondering,” Tuxedo Mask started, his gaze not moving away from the horizon. “I feel like we’ve met before.”

Yuuri blinked in surprise. He was pretty sure he had never met Tuxedo Mask before- at least not without the mask. He definitely would’ve noticed if it was him- his trademark silver hair was a bit… difficult to hide.

“I-” Yuuri said hesitantly. “I doubt it- I’ve no idea who you’re.”

The man shook his head, apparently unsatisfied with Yuuri’s response. “Not like that- just, this doesn’t feel like the first time we met.”

Yuuri looked up at the starry sky, his feet moving on autopilot. The sky was cluttered with stars, all of them shining down upon them. Was Tuxedo Mask right? Had they met before under the same starry sky?

IV – Homesickness

When Yuuri woke-up, bathing in sweat and homesickness surging through his body, he didn’t hesitate for long. Pushing away the red curtains, he threw his legs over the edge of the bed and got up. With his glasses placed snug on his nose, he carefully manoeuvred through the room, trying to get dressed without waking up his roommate. However, giving Victor’s bed one quick look, Yuuri noticed that the Quidditch captain was nowhere to be found. Well- Victor was a Perfect after all, he could do whatever he wanted.

Dressed warmly against the cold November weather, Yuuri managed to leave the castle without being caught. However, to be fair, his camouflage spells started to get really good- good enough to fool any ordinary student. With the tip of his wand glowing, Yuuri walked over the school grounds, heading for his favourite destination: the Quidditch fields.

Eventually, once he was seated on the bleachers, Yuuri unpacked his old, ratty bag and withdrew his favourite book and a comfortable blanket. It was a ritual for him. The moment he missed home, he would find a nice, quiet spot and took in the surrounding. Once he was done with that, he would start to read his favourite books- all to distract him from reality.

Flipping through the well-loved pages of the book, Yuuri didn’t notice the approaching figure. Only when a shadow loomed over him, Yuuri looked up, squeaking in surprise and grabbing his wand.

“It’s you,” Yuuri breathed, pressing his hand against his rapidly beating chest. His roommate- Victor- was seated on a broom. His silver hair was pulled together in a long ponytail.

“Yeah, it’s me,” the man said heartedly. With ease, the silver-haired man slid off his broom and sat down next to Yuuri. “I’m surprised to see you here- usually the stadium is deserted around this time.”

Small clouds of vapoured water escaped Yuuri’s lips when he laughed. “Well most people are asleep around this time,” he remarked, offering Victor a small smile.

“Well, it seems we aren’t categorised as ‘most people’, are we?” Victor wrapped his arm affectional around Yuuri’s shoulder.

A faint blush adorned Yuuri’s cheeks. Victor had no concept of personal space- but by now, he was pretty used to it. Having Victor as your only roommate for over six years helped.

“Anyway, what brings you here? Enjoying the view?” Victor gestured to the starry sky.

Yuuri shook his head. “Taking a breather,” he said slowly. “Couldn’t sleep.”

Victor hummed. “Homesickness?” he asked, knowing perfectly well that Yuuri struggled with this.

Nodding, Yuuri anxiously waited for Victor to make a comment. It was a bit silly, suffering from homesickness as an adult, but Yuuri actually did miss his parents and sister.

“You know, while I don’t struggle from homesickness, I sometimes need to get my mind off things and well,” Victor got up and picked up his broomstick. “Usually flying does the trick for me.”

Yuuri stared at Victor with great surprise. Was he offering Yuuri a ride? It did sound like that- but on the other hand, Yuuri didn’t want to push Victor into something he didn’t want to.

“You’re offering me a ride?” he eventually asked carefully, hoping that he had interpreted Victor’s suggestion correctly.

Blue eyes lit in happiness. “Jup!” the man exclaimed happily. “Of course, if you want to.”

There was no hesitation. “I would love to,” Yuuri mumbled softly, a fond smile crossing his lips.

V – “Hey, we meet again.”

Yuuri was one of the last people to leave the library. He had entered the building at the crack of dawn and seemed to leave long after the sun had set. The vibrant-coloured sky was replaced with a clear sky adorned by millions of stars. It seemed that it was one of those nights- the starry skies. This meant the dreams inevitably would come. Blue eyes, silver hair. A name. Victor.

The Quidditch player who had captured his heart in the span of seven years. The Stormtrooper who had granted his freedom and a new partner to spend the rest of his life with. His partner in crime- the Tuxedo Mask to his Sailor Moon- though it embarrassing to realise that nowadays, Sailor Moon was portrayed as a girl. His very own Cinderella- or Prince Charming- Yuuri wasn’t still sure about. It seemed no matter what life he lived, Victor was always there. To stay at his side, to love him. Yet, despite knowing that, being aware of that, Yuuri had yet to find the Victor in this universe.

Dragging his loaded bag with him, Yuuri headed over to the bus stop. It would take a while before the bus would arrive but as Yuuri still had work to do, it wasn’t like he would be bored or he would waste his time.

It was somewhat crowded at the bus stop for the time of the day, so Yuuri was content with leaning against a glass wall and scrolling through his phone. He still had to text his roommate that he finally would head home.

Yuuri looked briefly up as a bus stopped at the bus stop but soon returned his attention back to his phone. He had to get the third bus, second one after this one. The bus shelter grew less crowded, and Yuuri managed to snatch a seat, dropping his bag between his legs.

He didn’t even look up when the second bus arrives, only briefly noting the bustling of students that headed to the vehicle. When the second bus left, he finally looked up, curiously glancing around.

Only one other person was waiting for another bus. The moment Yuuri looked at the man, their gaze met. Blue eyes greeted him, strands of silver hair framed his face. It was him. No doubt about it. But had Victor recognised him too? Or was Yuuri wrong? That was also plausible.

“Found you,” the words rolled off his tongue before he even noticed it. The silver-haired man flinched, eyes growing big in surprise. “Victor, isn’t it?”

The man’s lips trembled, his eyes grew slightly watery. “Yuuri?” the man- well, by now Yuuri assumed it was Victor- asked.

Neglecting his phone, Yuuri got up in a hurry, his heart beating wildly. This had to be him- Yuuri had found him again.

“Yes!” Yuuri said excitedly. “Yes, I’m Yuuri- and you’re Victor, right?” this time, the man nodded.

Their gazes met, and an almost blinding smile crossed Victor’s lips. “The Sailor Moon to my Tuxedo Mask,” Victor suggested cheekily.

Feeling his heart making summersaults, Yuuri grinned and nodded. “The Cinderella to my Prince Charming?” he asked aloof, but his happiness was hard to see past.

The low rumbling of an engine announced the arrival of Yuuri’s bus, but neither of them moved. They didn’t dare to move. Not without catching up with each other, making sure that they were the ones they’ve been looking for. Making sure that they were real. They wouldn’t know when the next opportunity of seeing each other would arise.

Once again, it seems that Yuuri had managed to find the Victor of this universe. Though, this time, he knew he had found the one.

However even more appealing is the company itself which focuses on the creative implementation of AI and data to make people's lives better. Furthermore, the company is situated in Munich, my hometown.

Obviously, the fact that they would prefer experience in the UX/UI field if possible. I know I am just at the start of my career but knowing that your job “competition” might and will have more experience than you creates a sense of unease. I also find the list of additional helpful skills rather intimidating, even though we learn most of them at the Cape Town Creative Academy, it often still feels like you haven’t because you don’t have too much “real world” experience.

1. S: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

M: In 5 years from now, I see myself settled within a company I enjoy working for – growing/climbing the ladder becoming the best UI designer I can be. While learning additional skills to evolve my role within the company.

2. M: What are your biggest strengths?

S: My biggest strength is time-management. Since I was 16 I worked part-time in a Tourism Business which learned me to plan ahead of time and plan enough time in order to be able to give each task the necessary time it needs. I learned very early to balance multiple responsibilities and tasks at the same time.

3. S: What are your biggest weaknesses?

M: Some of my biggest weaknesses are 1. Asking for help, 2. Not saying no and 3. Lacking the confidence to take up a task. 

4. M: What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?

S: The biggest challenge I had to overcome was gaining enough confidence in my work to feel that I could be a great asset to a company one day.

5. S: What was the most valuable aspect you learned whilst studying?

M: The most valuable aspect of my studies was learning time management as well as meeting deadlines on time.

S: Currently, I am reading Malcolm Gladwells “Talking to Strangers” which is a fascinating book focusing on what impact pre-made assumptions can have on your day-to-day conversations can have.

M: I work well under pressure, as I am used to taking on additional work while studying full time. This helped me deal with stressful situations and last-minute deadlines.

S: I enjoy working in a team and in a team environment because I think it is important to gain inspiration and motivation from one another. Multiple eyes on a task normally have a better outcome than just a single pair of eyes.

9. S: What Designers inspire you?

M: Whitney Hess,  a well-known designer but besides being a great designer she has great values as well. She believes empathy builds empires.

10. M: What would make this your dream job?

S: It is important for me to be able to constantly grow and develop in an environment. However not just work skills like working with Sketch or Figma but also social-skills and time-management skills. 

11. S: Describe your personality

M: My personality is best describes as friendly and bubbly, but seriously focused and determined when it comes to working environments and tasks. As I take my work extremely seriously.

12. M: What does your ideal work environment look like?

S: My ideal work-environment includes trust in each other skills and competence. I think it is important to be able to get criticism and also to be able to give criticism in order to help one another grow.

M: I was drawn to the description that was given about the company, I can see myself working in this company and fitting in greatly. I believe I have all the qualities you are seeking within a designer and I also liked that medical aid was included.

S: I enjoy hiking with my friends the most in my spare time. I think it is a great opportunity to recharge whilst having a great company. As a designer you sit most of your time in front of a laptop or a computer, therefore I think it’s important to reconnect with nature in your spare time.

M: Honestly and ambitious. Honestly is one of the attributes I value the most in life – as a colleague, I would appreciate honest feedback or be informed if I do something incorrectly. Ambitious because I believe I am and that helps motivate me and others around us.

S: The biggest life lesson I learned is from my mother. She made me realize from a young age that you should always work towards the best possible solution to a problem or work in general.

M: I enjoy what I do, I find it challenging as it is not always black and white and I enjoy figuring out ways to overcome problems by solving them with something aesthetically pleasing.

18. M: If you could change anything in the world what would it be?

S: I personally would change the education system to place a greater focus on the creative. When I was in school creative subjects were neglected and regarded as less important in contrast to other subjects. However, I think especially creating art even if you are not a great artist is essential to the development of children as it can naturally calm one.

M: I am trying to remain hopeful for my country as it will forever be ‘home’ to me. But I am not blinded by everything going on around us.

Blogs can be a very marketable and very profitable tool when used correctly. Profiting from blogs is just a matter of catching the attention of the audience and not selling any real salesmen. In this article, you will learn the 13 most important steps for successful blogging. 

1) Where to get started? 

You should start your blog with a free blog hosting service like the Journal Home. I'm not saying that because I'm the owner, but a free blog host is very rewarding for a new blog.  Starting with a free blog hosting service, you can start blogging immediately without any advanced understanding of scripting, hosting, or programming. It enables you to create your blog crowd and buzz.  It enables you to concentrate on your content and not on the inner maintenance of your blog. The best advantage of starting with a free service is that if your blog isn't successful, you won't lose any money or keep your bill. 3) Daily update (nothing less) 

This step is a must and not a suggestion. Updating your blog every day not only makes your blog more interesting to readers, but also gives your blog fresh content every day, making it more appealing to search engines. Not updating your blog on an occasional holiday or one day here, and most of it can be understood, but missing days at a time or weeks is unacceptable and will most likely result in your blog being unsuccessful. To keep your blog traffic going and keep your visitors interested, you need to update your blog with multiple entries every day. Wayfarer Dev Log 2022.04.01

Hi friends,

Spring is here and while I didn't finish everything I had planned for the winter quarter, I have still completed a significant amount of work on Episode 2.

March was a pretty stressful month in terms of personal events and work/life balance. Unfortunately, this means that we'll be looking at a public launch later in spring/summer rather than earlier, but I am really pleased with the shape of the episode and I think the extra work is going to make it even more worthwhile to play.

Because Episode 2 is still in development, I will not be answering any coding or writing asks during the month of April. My inbox will stay open for all other types of questions. 💕

✦ The Public Build [Version 1.1.1.]

Patch 1.5.2 was released on March 28. This is an extremely small patch to fix an inventory bug and a couple continuity errors in Aegineta's scene.

If your Episode 1 playthrough took you to the Cove and you received duplicates of jewelry in your inventory from Lars Drakehand, you will have to restart from before that section to correct the error.

The alpha build received the same patch as the public to fix those errors.

Episode 2, Scene 4 is currently at 95,000 words of cumulative content. I am hoping to finish the rest of Episode 2 this month. Regardless, the next update to the alpha build will be the last. This is a beast of an episode and I will be very happy when it's complete!

As previously discussed, I have moved OR predicate construction to the standard dropdown list below the tag input. It now appears as the top result, where you can hit enter on it to submit it as-is. Also, while under construction, a 'cancel' button and 'rewind' button (to remove the most recent OR-term added) will appear on the same panel. You can also hit Esc to cancel a currently under-construction OR predicate.

As a reminder, hold shift when you enter a tag to start an OR chain. Further shift+enter events will append new tags to the chain, and a bare enter will cap it off. I will write out some proper help for this.

OR search is basically finished as a v1.0 now. I still have some last tidy-up jobs to do, but I am overall happy with it.

I built on the past weeks' thumbnail experiments and have written a two-stage thumbnail rendering system that gets thumbs on screen faster (even if they are the wrong size, so will look fuzzy), and regenerates any needed clearer versions in the background and replaces them in-place on screen over the following seconds. It is much smoother and faster than before, and it is pretty neat to see a fuzzy thumb suddenly fade into a clearer version, but I still have a little work to do here.

Now, when you trash a file, a context-appropriate 'deletion reason', such as 'Deleted from Media Page.' will be saved. These statements are mostly trivial, but duplicate filter actions will specify a bit more about the duplicate processing action type. This text will be recovered in an import status window for 'deleted' status results, just as a help if you want to investigate closer (e.g. perhaps you are not sure why a particular file failed to import, but then you see the reason is you already decided you have a better duplicate version of it). Any files deleted before this system will just give "Unknown deletion reason."

Adding OR search caused a couple of search flaws: bare system:rating searches were delivering since-deleted files, and some searches with combinations of OR predicates with regular tags were delivering subsets of the real results. I believe I have fixed both of these, and now many previously slow OR searches should run quite a bit faster, especially when accompanied by with non-OR predicates.

I gave export folders a pass and fixed several bugs and inefficiencies, particularly for 'synchronised' folders that produce subdirectories from their filenames, which were often deleting those subdirectories. Also, and export folder or manual export event that attempts to produce a file path above the base export directory (e.g. if the generated filename begins with ..\ or ../) will now fail with some error text to explain what happened. If you use export folders a lot, particularly 'synchonised' ones, please let me know if you still get any unusual behaviour.

all local file trashing events now record a context-appropriate deletion statement such as "Deleted from Media Viewer." this value is recovered in 'deleted' import status 'notes'. I used this sleeping bag a total of probably 10-15 times and don't have a use for it anymore.  It's clean and in amazing shape.  It comes with a stuff sack for packing in your backpack as well as a breathable cotton bag for storage.  Loft is in great shape.  It has a small pocket near the top of the bag for earplugs or headphones.  It also has a pocket in the back to stuff clothing to make a pillow.  It won't slip from your sleeping bag thanks to the straps on the back of the pad. The North Face Rock 22 Backpacking Tent WITH Footprint - $65

Deuter ACT Lite 28 SL (Women's specific) Day Pack with Cover - $50
