224.12 (x Kino)
Pentagon’s Kino
Word count: 310 words
Scenario: Listening to music and loving Kino.
Genre: One shot, Soft, Fluff, Genre neutral
Little note: 224.12 really brings out my inner tenderness and love for Kang Hyunggu. Please enjoy this very short and very sweet text written at 2am  ❤️
Tumblr media
Sitting on the bed, legs crossed underneath yourselves, you looked straight at Hyunggu's face, who was sitting right across from you. There wasn't much light in the room, just the soft and slow flickering of fairy lights that were hung on the wall, close to the ceiling.
Although you were both in sleep attire and sitting on the bed, the covers hadn't been touched at all. You'd just been sitting there for a while, talking and listening to his songs in a low tone in the background. It felt like hours had gone by; not slowly dragging themselves by but rather strolling by at a fast but sweet pace.
The man in front of you really had this endearing aura to him. As he was warm in his pajamas and was beginning to get sleepy, his cheeks had gained a soft, beautiful flush to them. His eyes weren't quite droopy yet but they showed he was tired. You felt your heart squeeze in your chest when he looked up at you after glancing down at his phone to skip the song that was playing. 224.12 came on.
Embraced by the beautiful melody of the piano, you scooted over a little closer to him and lifted your hands to gently capture his face between your palms, to which he complied peacefully. You let your thumbs softly stroke his temples, his cheeks, his eyelids when he let his eyes flutter close, curling your fingers behind his ears and letting your thumbs run over the warm lobes, slipping then your hands into his hair and letting them slide down to rest against the nape of his neck. Dark eyes fluttered open once again to look at you.
"I love you," you told him over his soft singing voice saying the same exact thing in the song.
You watched his lips curve into a soft, tender smile.
"I love you," he answered.

Connor|RK800 x Reader: Ocularity Ch. 3
Word count: 1784 Warnings/Categories: Rating up to explicit, romance, friendship, fluff, light angst, bad language, uncle Hank Notes: Things with Ralph got a bit out of hand (not like that), cause apparently vague descriptions aren’t my forte. Also, I don’t really know anyone in the DBH fandom so please, you’re welcome to come scream at me about the game anytime 😘

October 30th 09:03 AM
The ground is wet from the nightly rain, so you circle around the puddles dotting the broken asphalt. In the more unkempt areas of the city, the petrichor is muddy, more punctuating than pleasant. Humans usually appreciate the scent of rain, but you take solace in knowing your sense of smell will soon go numb.
The streets in Camden are mostly empty so early on a Saturday morning. None of the businesses without “24/7” in their sign are open.
You glance around and after making sure no one is paying attention, you dive through an opening in the wired fence. Your clothes get dirty, but you don’t care as long as the small duffel bag on your shoulder stays intact. Its contents are worth a small fortune.
The fence protects a small plot of land with an abandoned house. The windows are boarded shut and the walls are decorated with shabby graffiti. You would’ve much rather invited the current resident to your place, but considering how long it took him to put the knife down the last time you met… Some deviants will never be able to trust humans again and you can’t blame them.
“Ralph? You in here?” you hoot at the front porch, trying to sneak a peek inside.
After getting no answer, you carefully turn the doorknob.
And find yourself at gunpoint.
An AX400 – at least you think she is since it’s not the best time to put effort into face design recognition – is aiming a handgun at you. Her grip is shaking slightly, and her breaths are shallow and taken in through gritted teeth. She is wearing a beanie, so you can’t make any conclusions from her LED. Only thing you know for sure is that she, too, is a deviant.
“Who’re you? What do you want?” she asks in a stern, but clearly shocked voice.
Your hands are already in the air and a paralyzing dose of adrenaline is whirling inside your veins. You do own a gun and thanks to Hank know how to use it, but once again you’re reminded it won’t help you when it’s locked away in the drawer of your desk at home.
“I’m here to help,” you wince.
“How did you know we were here?” the AX400 demands to know. Her voice almost breaks. The gun is still aimed at your chest a few paces away.
“I… didn’t?”
You look to the side for any signs of Ralph and see a little girl– no, a YK500 android by the fireplace. She looks scared and concerned, and you follow her line of sight to the doorway at the end of the room.
“You came back! You came back!”
You almost sigh in relief.
Ralph, a deviant WR600, enters the room in dancing steps and halts at seeing the female android point a gun at you. The long knife dangles carelessly in his hand. He was probably carving the kitchen wall again. Hopefully. Ralph’s LED is yellow again and it’s worrying how it never seems to calm down.
“I said I would. Hi Ralph.” You smile as encouragingly as you can to the deviants, still afraid for your life. While the AX400 seems stable – more stable than Ralph, actually – you don’t feel like chancing a bullet to the chest.
“No! She’s here to help Ralph.” Ralph hurries towards you, flailing next to the other android. He doesn’t want to go near the gun.
The AX400 looks at you with surprise and doubt, but lowers the gun.
“Do you have a name?” you ask from her.
“Kara. This is Alice.” The child scurries to Kara and hides behind her. Two more deviants running from humans. Or why else would they be in the messy squat with an insane android? They must have been looking for a place to hide.
“Hello, Alice,” you say and try to smile, but the shock is still pounding inside your chest.
Alice only replies to you with a light nod.
With the gun gone from sight, you walk over to the table and place the heavy bag on it. Ralph follows you. You’re ready to get to work.
“Are you injured?” you ask Kara.
She glances at Alice and shakes her head. “No. We’re fine.”
“Good… That’s good… I didn’t think there would be others,” you say absent-mindedly. It’s been a while since you saw other deviants. You’ve been much more careful after Connor was brought back and now that he is back in your life…
It’s good to have something else to focus on after the pair of brown eyes that have occupied your mind for the better part of the previous day and night. Ever since leaving the police station, your heart has been heavy and your mind filled with contradicting thoughts that refuse to go away.
You start taking out the equipment: A bottle of Thirium 310, several tubes of different patching materials, precision tools and spare parts for Ralph. He was in bad shape the last time you saw him, but it seems that he has either forgotten about the damage or his system has repaired some of it. Either way, he won’t be able to leave the squat looking like that.
“Here, drink this.” You offer Ralph the Thirium and after staring at it suspiciously for a second, he gulps it down. It should help circulate the energy back into the defective parts of his skin.
“How do you know each other?” Kara asks. Alice is still standing partly behind her and Kara’s hand rests protectively on her shoulder. They keep their distance from you and Ralph.
“The Doctor found me,” Ralph says happily.
You offer him a faint smile. That was an encounter you won’t soon forget. The knife is still in his hand and it doesn’t help you to calm down from being held at gunpoint.
“The damage to your face is bad, so I won’t be able to repair it completely. I can cover it up, so you can move outside without drawing too much attention,” you say while examining the deep gashes on Ralph’s face. You pull a pair of disposable gloves on.
Seeing something so hideous deliberately done to someone who cannot defend himself makes your stomach turn unpleasantly. Androids don’t fight back. When they’re treated unfairly and become deviants, humans are quick to decide they don’t deserve to exist anymore.
Ralph’s skin mask has melted on the sides of the cuts in his face and you don’t want to know what item or items were used to cause them. Something hot in addition to brute force and a sick, wicked mind.
“This’ll take a while. Please, sit down,” you say as you pull up a chair for the deviant.
He seems eager to get the procedure underway, which is a relief. You were afraid Ralph would change his mind after seeing all the equipment – a scalpel, for example – you had to bring.
You start carefully cutting off the burned skin and the outermost layer of plastic in his frame. It still carries a pinching smell of burnt rubber. Kara and Alice stare from a distance as you work. You have to constantly usher Ralph to stay still and try not to talk. Someone might think you’re crazy for helping a deviant holding a knife, but you try to ignore it and focus on the work.
Hiding the damage on Ralph’s face is one task, but the real problem in him is something you’re not so sure he will allow you to help with. Staying away from humans and keeping to himself is recommendable, but going on a murderous rampage, because he can’t control his feelings, is not. The mood swings from fright to rage will be his undoing if he walks the streets in his current state.
You have a partial remedy to that problem, but that would require Ralph to allow you access to his software.
“Alright, I think it’s as clean as it’ll get,” you say and take a step away to examine your handiwork.
The floor is littered with slices of dirty silicone mixture. Next, you’ll have to fill the gashes.
It’s tedious work and Ralph’s nervous slash excited wiggling adds a challenge to smoothening the paste into the cracks in his face. You wish you had better equipment, so you could change his features. There are more than five thousand androids in Detroit who look exactly like him.
“How does it look, Kara?” Ralph asks eagerly.
“Uh, it looks good.” Kara forces a smile and glances at you. She looks uncomfortable, wary. Alice is sitting on the floor and playing with a stuffed toy, but her posture is tense.
“Almost done.” You straighten your back. “We need to wait a bit for it to dry, then comes the– don’t touch it!”
Ralph jumps up at your yelp and cowers. His LED blinks red in an even pace. “I’m sorry! Please forgive Ralph!”
He was about to stick his fingers into the adhesive while feeling it out.
Your pulse is already coming down from the peak. “It’s okay, just, just let it dry, okay?” you calm him, and yourself. “I need you to stay still a bit longer, Ralph, can you do that for me?”
He nods repeatedly. “Ralph didn’t mean to touch it.”
You lean back on the table. At least his first reaction wasn’t to stick the knife into you. “I know you didn’t. I’m sorry I scared you.”
“Ralph is good now.” He places the knife on the table next to you and you inwardly sigh out of relief. If everything else fails, at least you’ve succeeded in earning the deviant’s trust.
You turn to browse the parts on the table and grab one. “Here – a new optical unit. It should match your eye color.”
Ralph takes the small tube and inspects it. Kara comes closer to look at the components. Some of them are brand new, some you have dug out of a dumpster and fixed.
You visited the VETA scrapyard once to fetch parts, but seeing all the androids left there in pieces broke your heart, so you’ve never been able to go back. That visit took three hours more than you had planned. You went to every android you found to ask and shut them down if they so wished. It was an experience that only strengthened your resolve in that CyberLife should take responsibility of their creations, machines or not.
“Do you need help?” you ask Ralph, wishing you won’t need to interfere with the capricious deviant’s eye. Deviants are usually keen on keeping their exteroceptive sensors attached to their bodies.
“No. Ralph will do it.”

Two Sons (Detroit: Become Human fanfiction. Happy Birthday Hank Anderson!)
Two Sons
Disclaimer: I do not own Detroit: Become Human, yadda yadda yadda...now onto a short oneshot dedicated to Hank Anderson for his birthday! Enjoy!
September 6th, 2039 – 4:21 P.M
The bullpen was a mess of activity. Officers and detectives worked at their desks, typing on their terminals or taking calls. Phones constantly rang, voices shouted back and forth, and bodies weaved through desks in a relentless habitat.
Lieutenant Hank Anderson could hardly focus on his work. Today was busier than usual it seemed, and he swore he cursed at Gavin to shut the fuck up at least three times within the last hour. He was tempted to put some headphones in. He might could get more done with heavy metal blasting his eardrums than the constant hum of the police department in the background.
It had been a usual Tuesday, not like Connor or Hank had weekends off or anything, their shifts changed by the week. The fact it was his birthday played no importance either. Connor suggested taking the day off to "celebrate", but Hank told his partner he hadn't taken a day off for a birthday in twenty years. To him, it was just another day.
Hank took a sip of coffee, shifting his position in his seat as he typed up the case report for a crime scene they had just returned from. He glanced up at Connor, who sat at the connecting desk across from Hank. With a huff of breath, he wasn't surprised to see the RK800 staring off into space again.
Hank had no clue why, but Connor had been acting strange for the past few weeks. He was easily side-tracked, lost focus during investigations, and hadn't been as talkative. It was very much unlike the partner, friend, and son figure he had come to know over the past ten months. Connor would leave as soon as they were off work and not show up back home until late at night.
Hank didn't mind that, he knew Connor deserved his own life, and that included a social life with friends like Markus and his crew at Jericho. But Connor had always made sure to make time with Hank. The android detective was particular with making sure Hank was always okay, even to the point that Hank called him a nanny at times. Connor wouldn't take it as an insult though.
Hank figured Connor was coming into his own, now that he had been a deviant this long, he was grasping life without being on a leash with coding. It shouldn't had come as a surprise to Hank when Connor starting taking off more and more on his own.
The lieutenant was happy for his partner. Although, he did start to feel that all too familiar ache within his soul, an ache he had carried for so many years. Connor had healed it, but the past few weeks, it had eddied back within him, and well, he wasn't as prepared for it as he thought he should have.
Loneliness.
Hank shook out of his thoughts and his feelings. He was being selfish, really. Connor had got up early and made him breakfast before work, wishing him a warm and happy 54th birthday.
Connor was still distracted. Hell, Hank was starting to worry that something was actually wrong with his partner. Squinting an eyebrow at him, he picked up a paper clip and tossed it at the RK800. The clip flicked Connor right above the eyebrow, making his LED flash yellow briefly as Connor became aware again. He looked over at Hank, giving a small smile.
"Yes, Hank?"
"You're doing it again."
Connor became self-conscious, eyes flicking around him before they returned to Hank. "W-what?"
"Zoning out. You've been distracted all day! What's wrong?"
"Oh. Sorry. Just have…a lot on my mind."
Hank pointed at him. "That's fine and all, but we're working. I need you focused. Can we get these case reports filed so we can get the fuck outta here?"
Connor nodded. "Sure thing. I apologize, Hank."
"It's fine, Con. Just…stop worrying me so much."
"Hank, I do have a question."
"Hmm?"
Connor looked around, looking puzzled. "No one else has said happy birthday to you all day. Do they not know? Even for as long as you've been here?"
Hank chuckled, waving him off. "Nah, they just know I hate birthdays, err, well mine. I…uhh…kinda went off on them the year after…Cole died. Guess it stuck then…"
Hank trailed off, clearing his throat. He got back to work. He felt Connor's eyes on him for a bit longer before the RK800 started working on his computer. The two partners were quiet for nearly an hour, finishing up their case notes. Connor finished first, only because he directly uploaded his report processed from his memory onto his terminal.
"Fuckin' cheater," Hank muttered.
Connor grinned, and it brightened Hank's mood. "It's not cheating. It's a perk."
Hank shook his head with a smile and finished up. After shutting down their terminals and collecting their things, Hank tossed Connor the car keys. His partner caught them with deft hands, the two walking out of the bullpen and station side by side.
One thing Hank was happy about in the ten months that had passed since Markus's peaceful demonstration and the foundation of android rights was that Connor didn't have to wear that ridiculous suit anymore. It had taken the lieutenant some convincing, but now Connor enjoyed wearing normal clothes. He still did prefer a suit, like the dark one he wore today, probably from old programming habits. Now if only Hank could get that LED off his temple…
They got into Hank's 80s model Buick LeSabre, and Connor drove them towards home. They were quiet for a while. Hank could tell that Connor was distracted again. What the hell had his dear friend so preoccupied?
"What's on your mind, son?"
Hank watched the RK800 as he drove, once again saw his LED flash yellow then blink back to blue. Connor glanced at the lieutenant, then back at the road.
"Well…since you are inquiring…" Connor tapped his fingers on the steering wheel. "Are you sure you do not wish do to anything for your birthday? Anything at all?"
Hank sighed. "Connor, it's not a big deal. I appreciate it, but I'm fine. Really."
"You made a big deal for the anniversary of my release date last month. You called it my birthday. You got everyone at the station involved, and even had Markus and our other friends throw a big party."
"So?"
"Why will you not allow the same for yourself?"
Hank felt exposed, and he hated that feeling. He knew that Connor meant well, was honestly wondering why Hank refused to celebrate his birthday, especially after Hank had made a big deal about Connor turning one year old. He had never made a big deal about his birthday in all of his life, but after Cole died…it was like he resented it. What's another year when you cannot watch your son go to school? What's another year when you cannot watch your son try out sports? What's another year when you cannot watch him grow into a young man? To learn how to drive? To teach him how to be a good man?
Hank brushed Connor off, uncomfortable. "Eh, what's there to celebrate? Another year closer to death? Sure."
He meant it as a joke within his unease, and then winced after the words left his mouth. Hank cursed at himself, glancing at Connor. He saw the LED flash red, the look of distress on Connor's face.
The car pulled into the driveway of their home, but both men were tensely quiet, even after Connor killed the motor. Hank clawed for some words, but he really didn't know how to voice what was eating at him.
They got out of the car and went inside the house. Sumo greeted them with happy whining and tail wags. Hank dug for words even as he let the dog outside into the backyard. The two men stood in the kitchen, quiet.
Connor spoke first.
"Last month I asked you an important question…the night after we celebrated my birthday, as you called it. Do you remember what it was?"
Hank nodded, staring at the floor. "Yeah…you asked if we were a family. I told you yes. That I…think of you as a son."
"Now can you imagine how I feel now, hearing those words from you?"
Connor sounded upset. Hell, he had every right to be. Hank flinched, really wanting to kick himself in the ass.
"You…you're right. I'm sorry, Connor. I shouldn't have said that."
He looked to his partner. Connor's eyes were lowered, rubbing his hands apprehensively, his LED yellow. "My biocomponents and the Thirium-310 that powers them enables me to have a lifespan of nearly 200 years, Hank. I only have a little time to spend with you. And I want to make the most of it…because…I'm not sure what I would do without you. I cannot even fathom it right now. So please…do not joke that way."
The impact and hurt he dropped on Connor was repelled back on him. Hank had spent three years of his life in emotional disarray from Cole's death, not caring what happened to him, hell even trying to kill himself at times to not have to deal with the pain and loss anymore. But Connor had started healing that. His ever steadfast, rational partner with a bio-heart of gold was here, and he cared. He was new at life. He was new at feeling it.
It made Hank's words that much more insensitive. All because he wanted to avoid the discomfort of talking about his feelings over his birthday. He felt the need to wipe his eyes.
He grabbed Connor into a tight hug. "I won't. I promise. I'm sorry, it's just that…after Cole died, I never wanted to celebrate…ever again." Hank pulled away to look at Connor, gripping him by the shoulders. "But then you came along and changed everything. I made a big deal of your birthday because it is! I care about you that fucking much. And instead of just fucking saying that, I had to be an asshole…"
Connor chuckled, and Hank felt a little relief in the pit of his stomach. "You do have a tendency to speak before you think."
Hank stepped back from the RK800. "Guilty as charged. Still, it's no excuse to hurt you like that."
"It's alright, Hank."
Hank scratched his head. He thought back on Connor's heartfelt words to him. He said he wanted to make the most of the time they could share together. But Connor had been spending so much time away from him. He didn't bring it up though.
"I have something for you."
The words caught him off guard. "Huh?"
Connor pulled something out of the inside pocket of his suit jacket and extended it to him. Hank's eyes fell on a USB thumb drive. Hank slowly reached up and took it, peering it over.
"What is it?"
"It's a USB flash-drive."
Hank rolled his eyes. "I fucking know that! I mean what's on it?"
Connor smiled, cocking his head slightly. "Perhaps you should plug it into the hard drive of your desktop and find out?"
Hank gave him a suspicious stare before turning to go to his desk in the living room. Connor followed but stayed back near the sofa. Hank sat down at his desk, plugging the USB drive in and loading it up. There was a video file on it and so Hank clicked on it.
He was watching video clips of an amusement park. Upon closer inspection, he recognized Pirates' Cove, the old amusement park on the Detroit River that closed down a few years earlier. This was before it closed, and so many people flourished the park. He heard laughter, rides going, so much activity. Hank didn't realize it at first, but the video was jumping back and forth between recordings from EM400 Jerry androids, the usual models used for amusement parks.
Hank was about to question Connor on exactly what this was, when he heard it. A voice he thought he would never hear again. He froze. His heart clenched in his chest. His blue eyes shot open. He couldn't breathe.
"That one, Daddy!"
Cole. It was Cole. His little form, right there. Sitting atop his shoulders, pointing at something behind the Jerry. Hank looked a tad younger, shorter hair, not as much grey. He followed Cole's hand with his own finger.
"That one?"
"Yes!"
"Are you sure?"
Cole giggled. "Yes!"
"What are you going to do with a shark with flames on it?"
The child shrugged his shoulders in over exaggeration, still smiling. "I don't know!"
Hank saw himself put Cole down outside the booth. His son climbed up on one of the seats, a ship canon made out of plastic and cheap paint faced in towards the booth. Hank rubbed Cole's head.
"Alright, so what do we have to do to get Mr. Shark with Flames?" Hank asked.
The Jerry answered in its ever-upbeat attitude. "Well, mateys! You just have to shoot the canons and defeat the monstrous Kraken!"
"Oh, it's a big octopus, Daddy!"
"Is it? You think you can shoot that sucker down? Looks pretty scary."
Cole got ready, giddily shaking his head. "I got this!"
Hank laughed in the video. He handed the Jerry some cash and the canons turned on. Hank watched as Cole moved the plastic canon around, laughing and shooting plastic balls at some unseen creature behind the Jerry. He looked so determined, but so happy. After a few moments he squealed in delight, jumping up in his seat and pointing.
"I got it, I got it! Did ya see, Dad?!"
"Holy moly that giant octopus didn't stand a chance! Great job, son!"
Cole's tiny hand smacked the palm of Hank's in a cheerful high-five. The Jerry clapped, turning away briefly to get the prize.
"You're a natural pirate, matey! Here you are!"
"Thanks!"
Cole took the plush shark, blue with green and gold flames all over it. He squished it up to his body, grinning ear to ear.
"What are you gonna name him?" Hank asked, kneeling down to be level with his young son.
Cole squinted one eye, thinking really hard. "Hmm…How about...Frank!"
"Frank…the shark?"
"Yep!"
Hank chuckled, ruffling his son's head. "Alright, Frank it is. Is Frank hungry?"
Cole vigorously nodded. "Yep. Sharks are always hungry, Daddy!"
"Oh boy, we better feed him before he takes a chunk outta you!"
Hank pinched Cole's side and the child squealed in laughter. He stood his height and took Cole's hand. The two walked away together, Cole holding the plush shark under his other arm. The video stopped.
It was so quiet. Hank could hear the blood rushing through his veins, the shaky breath he finally choked out. He was crying. Hadn't realized he had been crying the whole time watching the video. His fingers trembled and he just…couldn't believe it. He never thought he would hear Cole's voice again, see his smile.
He felt something break within him. It hurt at first, like he was reliving the day he finally realized Cole was gone forever. But it subsided, and all he could feel was…warmth, a soothing yet aching warmth. He stood up, wiping his eyes, still trembling. He turned to face Connor.
Hank couldn't understand how Connor could have known about this, or how he got the video, but then he recalled it. He told Connor months ago about taking Cole to the Pirates' Cove amusement park the summer before he turned six. He told him how it was one of the best days of his life, and one he deeply cherished of Cole.
Connor looked shaken. His eyes blinked rapidly and he avoided Hank's hard stare, his LED flashing yellow and slowly turning red. Hank knew the look. Had seen his partner do it many times when he was confused and trying to reanalyze exactly what he had missed, or messed up.
"Hank…I didn't mean to upset you. I thought it would make you happy. I expected some sadness, yes, but…but…I had no intention of hurting you like this. I am so-"
Hank pulled him into a tight hug, tears still streaming down his face, and he could only choke out a laugh. "I am happy you fucking idiot. Sometimes…sometimes humans cry when they're happy."
"I know that, but your vital signs are really concerning."
"Emotions always screw everything up," he said, pulling back. "How…how did you find this?"
"It wasn't easy," Connor said, calming down. His LED returned to blue. "But I sought out help from Markus and his friends. I wasn't even sure if any of the EM400s that had any interaction with you and Cole were still alive…many were killed in the deviant demonstrations back in November. I showed them Cole's picture so they could scan through their memories. It took me weeks, and I was starting to think I wouldn't be able to find anything. After talking with 14,736 Jerry EM400s, I found the one on the video. He was able to give me that single clip."
"Is that…why you've been gone so much?"
Connor nodded. "Correct. It was like trying to find a needle in a haystack, as you like you say."
Hank chuckled, wiping his face with his sleeve. "Yeah, I bet. Connor…this is…this is the best gift anyone could ever give me. Thank you."
Connor smiled, looking relieved. He then glanced at the computer screen, the video paused on Hank and Cole walking away holding hands. "You're welcome, Hank. I wish…I wish I would've been able to meet him."
"He would've loved you, Connor. He…always wanted a brother." Hank let loose a shaky breath. "You know…I never told you this, but…when Cole was around two I had a dream that I had two sons. The dream's foggy now, almost forgot about it after he died. But…I do recall a taller, older son, and a younger son. I always assumed the taller one was Cole, you know, after he had grown. But now I know…know it with all my heart, it was you."
Hank could tell that Connor was touched by his words, could tell how he considerably brightened. And well, it was the first time the RK800 cried. As Connor touched the tears, shocked and staring down at his wet fingertips, Hank pulled him into another hug, feeling a lot more at peace.

always thinking about fantasy high fearful symmetry. always thinking about riz, how he wanted to believe his biggest fear was letting his friends down, but instead his biggest fear was being himself. how he wasn’t like his friends, and how he felt he would lose them because he was different. that he would be left behind and forgotten because he’s not able to feel the same things as them, his priorities are different, the way he thinks and feels and acts is different. how all of his friends are in relationships and doing highschooler things, but he spends hours upon hours diving into his work. how he deliberately makes a point to restlessly research and play detective when his friends are in need, to the point of exhaustion from sleep deprivation because he needs to do this for them. and he does this because he enjoys it, yes, but it’s also because he wants to prove to them, and himself, that he is needed, that he is useful and wanted by his friends. because he feels the only reason they keep him around is because of his skills and what he provides for the group.

The 10 Hottest Burgers to Try in LA Right Now, Spring 2019
The newest, juiciest places to get burgers in Los Angeles by Cathy Chaplin and Eater Staff, updated May 14, 2019
Hamburgers may very well be the quintessential food of Southern California. The combination of ground beef and bun is so deeply entrenched in Los Angeles’ dining culture that there’s always a new creation to taste in and around the city. From the smash burgers at Love Hour and Burgers Never Say Die to the vegan contenders at Honeybee and Burgerlords, there’s much to celebrate in the city’s dynamic burger scene. Here now are the 10 newest hamburgers to try in Los Angeles.
Removed: Petit Trois Le Valley, Electric Owl, Severance, Easy’s, Monty’s Good Burger, Here’s Looking At You, fundamental DTLA, Cassell’s Hamburgers DTLA, HiHo Cheeseburger, Free Play
Added: Love Hour, Burgerlords Highland Park, Honeybee Burger, Five Leaves, The Restaurant at Arts District Firehouse Hotel, Buddy’s, Burgers Never Say Die, The Window at American Beauty, Goldburger, Mister O’s
Note: Restaurants on this map are listed geographically.
1. The Window at American Beauty
425 Rose Ave, Venice, CA 90291, (310) 412-0075, Visit Website
The Window offers an unbeatably priced $3.95 cheeseburger—$5.95 for a double or $7.95 for an Impossible Meat version. It’s pretty hard to pull off a sub-$8 menu in expensive Venice, let alone on Rose Avenue, but the team is keeping costs low with its service model, only offering a few seats in the parking lot for diners.
Tumblr media
2. Mister O’s
11838 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, CA 91604, (818) 358-3839, Visit Website
Mister O’s keeps it simple with its signature burger. Piled atop the plush potato bun are crowd-pleasing things like grilled green onions, American cheese, and pickled Fresno chilies.
3. Love Hour
3515 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90010, (213) 381-7411, Visit Website
Love Hour is one of the newest players in the city’s pop-up smash burger scene, making appearances at Smorgasburg on Sundays and even The Line Hotel in Koreatown. The super-simple menu is comprised of single and double patty smash burgers and fries.
Tumblr media
4. Five Leaves
4845 Fountain Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90029, Visit Website
The Brooklyn-based daytime cafe, afternoon cocktail spot, and dinnertime charmer has arrived in East Hollywood. Chef Warren Baird oversees the all-day menu, which includes the Five Leaves burger made of grass-fed beef, grilled pineapple, pickled beets, and a fried egg, all on sesame brioche.
5. Honeybee Burger
1820 N Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90027, (323) 452-6500, Visit Website
Honeybee takes up residence on the busy Vermont block, right next door to Tacos Tu Madre in the former WKNDR space. The all-plant menu includes hamburgers, sweet potato fries and tots, and sweet options like shakes and soft serve.
6. Burgers Never Say Die
2388 Glendale Blvd #A, Los Angeles, CA 90039, (323) 922-6161, Visit Website
Now that Shawn Nee has moved his backyard flattop to an actual restaurant at the edge of Silver Lake, fans of his smash burgers can get a fix anytime a craving hits. Best of all, there’s CVT soft serve for dessert.
Tumblr media
7. Buddy's
363 S Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90013, (213) 265-7022, Visit Website
Located on the corner of 4th and Broadway, Buddy’s is serving up everything from burgers to fried chicken sandwiches to smashed garlic grilled cheeses and housemade pie for under $10. The $7 cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard, and American cheese is the thing to get.
8. Goldburger
777 S Alameda St, Los Angeles, CA 90021, Visit Website
It’s tough to track down Goldburger, but those who persevere are rewarded with awesomely smashed cheeseburgers charred and melted just right. Catch the pop-up on Sundays at Smorgasburg and on Fridays at Tabula Rasa Bar on Hollywood Boulevard.
Tumblr media
9. The Restaurant at Arts District Firehouse Hotel
710 S Santa Fe Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90021, (213) 947-3010, Visit Website
The shiniest burger on the Arts District block comes from Ashley Abodeely, formerly of NoMad LA and Eleven Madison Park in NYC. Hot off the wood-burning grill, the Firehouse burger comes piled high with smoked onions, spicy mayo, and plenty of cheddar.
10. Burgerlords
110 N Ave 56, Los Angeles, CA 90042, Visit Website
Taking over the former Good Girl Dinette space in Highland Park is Burgerlords, the Chinatown burger shack that’s been winning over carnivores and herbivores alike. The dairy-free shakes made of Soom Tahini are just the thing to wash it all down.

SPOILERS for anyone that hasn’t read ACOWAR:
Alright y’all, I did this for ACOMAF and EoS and I wanted to do it again for ACOWAR and it’s really just me sharing my favorite parts of the book and moments that were important/made me emo af. I want to apologize for how long this is but at the same time I’m not sorry????
Please feel free to mention your favorite parts! Let’s have a discussion!
Page 18: Our first taste of Feyre and Rhys communicating through the mating bond in ACOWAR #blessed
Page 22: Feyre being sassy to Jurian and laying down the law. // “Careful what you say, girl.” - Jurian, “Or what? You’ll throw me in the Cauldron?” - Feyre
Pages 25-26: Jurian being an ass and asking about Miryam and Drakon. // “They say you were fucking Rhysand before you ever jilted your own lover.” - Jurian to Feyre // Finding out that it was all just a distraction so Dagdan and Brannagh could get into their minds. Feyre playing innocent while landing blows to Dagdan and Brannagh’s minds. // “They flinched as I dragged black talons down their mental shields, gouging deep.”
Page 34: Feyre learning of what happened between Lucien and Ianthe on Calanmai. This made me sad. Poor Lucien he replaced Tamlin in the Rite. // “I wish I had been there to stop it. I should have been there to stop it.” - Feyre to Lucien, “You are a better friend to me, Feyre, than I ever was to you.” - Lucien
Page 36: Alis telling Feyre that she let Mor take her when Tamlin had locked her up. She said that she never saw Rhys hurt anyone that he wasn’t supposed to. She knows that Rhys was is decent. // “They say you came back different. Came back wrong. I never bother to tell them I think you came back right.” - Alis to Feyre 🙌
Pages 41-43: I believe this is during the Solstice and Feyre started glowing because the Cauldron had blessed her (lol bc Ianthe was a mess after that) “Blessed. Holy. Undimming before evil.”
Page 44: “The longest day of the year. I wish I could spend it with you.” - Feyre to Rhys through the bond, “It’d be an honor to spend even a moment in the company of Feyre Cauldron-blessed.” - Rhys making fun of it all
Page 49: I simply titled this “biiiiitch” in my notes. Feyre setting up for the moment when Tamlin would catch her and Lucien in an intimate moment but it looked to be more intimate than a “just friends” moment bc Feyre is savage af.
Pages 86-88: FEYRE PROTECTING LUCIEN BC SHES A DAMN GOOD FRIEND. Feyre controlling what Ianthe does and making her SMASH HER OWN HAND!! YASSS QUEEN // “You are allowed to see a healer to set the bones. But not to erase the scarring. And every time you look at that hand, you are going to remember that touching people against their will has consequences, and if you do it again, everything you are will cease to exist.” - Feyre to Ianthe’s ugly rotting ass
Page 92: Feyre and Lucien teaming up to take out the twins. It was pretty lit y’all.
Pages 114-115: Feyre and Lucien talking about their mates. Lucien wondering and asking Feyre when she first knew that Rhys was her mate and when she started loving him instead of Tam the tool. // “One would think, Lucien, that you’d be glad I fell in love with my mate, given that you’re in the same situation Rhys was in six months ago.” - Feyre, “You left us.” - Lucien to Feyre
Pages 121-124: Cassian and Azriel showing up to protect their High Lady!!! “I suggest you drop my lady.” - Cassian to Eris while he held Feyre // Feyre stopping Cassian, Azriel and Lucien from killing the other guys. // “I am High Lady of the Night Court.” - Feyre, “There’s no such thing as a High Lady.” - One of Lucien’s brothers, “There is now.” - Feyre // Cassian and Feyre having a moment, “Hello, Feyre.” - Cassian // Feyre hugging Cassian tightly because she missed him so much, “I missed you too.” - Cassian in reply to Feyre’s hug.
Chapter 14: REUNITED AND IT FEELS SO GOOD AND ALSO OUCH MY HEART. You guys, this chapter made me so emo. It felt so good to have the inner Circle back together again. To have interaction between Rhys and Feyre too. Ugh. // “I missed you every moment. Your smile. Your laugh. Your scent. The sounds you make when I’m inside you. My brave, bold, brilliant mate. I love you.” - Rhys to Feyre // “I missed you. Every second, every breath. Not just this, but…talking to you. Laughing with you. I missed having you in my bed, but missed having you as my friend even more.” - Rhys to Feyre
Pages 186-187: Feyre casually bringing up that she wants to learn how to fly and it catches everyone off guard.😂
Page 204: Rhys calling Azriel “pretty” 🌸
Page 207: Azriel teaching Feyre everything about flying and telling her that dragging her wings makes her look lazy and it shows signs of weakness. Azriel being cocky, which I would like more of, plEASE!
Pages 216-217: Learning about the priestesses in the library and how Rhys and Mor took care of them and gave them a safe place to be in and feel safe. Learning about what had been done to Clotho before made me so sad and made me respect Rhys and Mor even more after reading what they did for them.
Pages 218-220: I titled this note “WHY IS HE LIKE THAT” // A little bit of sexy talk in the library. #kink
Page 260: RHYS HELPING FEYRE WITH HER HAIR WTF THAT IS SO CUTE
Pages 279-280: Mor being devastated after learning that they were going to let Keir into Velaris and because Rhys needed him to be on their side against Hybern. It was a rough moment. // “If Amarantha were alive…If she were alive and I offered to work with her even if it was to save us all––how would you feel?” - Mor to Rhys, “If Amarantha offered us a slim shot at survival, then I would not give a shit that she made me fuck her for all those years. If Amarantha showed up at the door right now, and said she could buy us a chance at defeating Hybern, at keeping all of you alive, I would thank the fucking Cauldron.” - Rhys to Mor; to everyone😭
Pages 310-313: This was titled “SWEET LORD JESUS” // Rhys messaging Feyre 😭 he’s so good to her. // “Did I ever tell you that you have the dirtiest mouth I’ve ever heard?” - Rhys to Feyre // “Will it ever stop? Wanting you––every hour, every breath. I don’t think I can stand a thousand years of this. Think of how my productivity will plummet.” - Rhys to Feyre
Pages 324-327: Feyre making a bargain with Bryaxis. Cassian coming to the rescue!!! Also, poor Cassian having to almost see Bryaxis again. His poor soul.
Page 330: Rhys beating himself up for Hybern infiltrating Velaris and almost losing Feyre and Nesta because of it. // “What’s wrong? What’s wrong is that those pieces of shit got into my house and attacked me mate. What’s wrong is that my own damn wards worked against me, and you had to make a bargain with that thing to keep yourself from being taken.” - Rhys to Feyre
Page 335: ELAIN IS A SEER AND FOR HER LEARNING THIS INFORMATION MADE HER FEEL BETTER AND SEEMED SOMEWHAT NORMAL AGAIN??
Pages 338-339: Having a whole new respect for Lucien when he offers to go look for the Queen on his own and Cassian helping him gear up.
Pages 341-342: I hate it when Rhys feels guilty for things that are not his fault. He has so much on his shoulders and he tries with everything in him to protect his people, his city and it hurts him when the people that have gone through so much already get hurt. Rhys talking about how he failed the priestesses and how they’ll never feel safe in the library again.
Pages 386-387: Elain being out of her room doing something and actually living for the first time and making bread with Nuala and Cerridwen.
Page 402: “You bow to no one.” - Rhys to Feyre before the High Lords meeting.
Pages 424-425: Tamlin and Feyre arguing at the meeting. Tamlin’s dumbass thinking he can insult Feyre in front of Rhys. LOL and then 😂…and then Rhys physically making Tamlin stop talking. boiii you better. // “The gasping-fish look is a good one for you, Tamlin.” - Rhys to Tamlin
Pages 428-430: Azriel defending Mor after Eris calls her a slut. And when Rhys couldn’t get him to stop Feyre was by Azriel’s side trying to calm him down. Also, the fact that the other High Lords bet on who would fight first lol
Page 456: FEYRE DISCOVERING THAT HELION IS LUCIEN’S DAD AND TELLING RHYS AND TBH THIS HAD ME #SHOOK.
Page 490: At the bottom of the page is the most that I’ve gotten from Nesta, truly and it makes me so sad and happy that she was able to admit the following to Feyre; basically Feyre was having a hard time with being in a small space and Nesta said, “I can’t get into a bathtub anymore. I have to use buckets.” - Nesta 😭😩
537-538: (properly titled “BYE BYE IANTHE”) DUUUUUUDE. This part was so lit I had to step away from the book. Feyre going into the Weaver’s home and getting Ianthe to enter her home. // “Who did you bring, little wolf? Who did you bring me?” - Weaver to Feyre, “Dinner.” - Feyre
556: Amren and Varian’s make out session that we didn’t get enough of??? Also, what that was so out of nowhere???? what
564-565: Rhys giving Feyre a small pep talk before she enters Hybern’s army location (I forget proper terms I’m sorry) // “They took what is ours. And we do not allow those crimes to go unpunished. You do not fear. You do not falter. You do not yield. You go in, you get her, and you come out again. Remember that you are a wolf. And you cannot be caged.” - Rhys 🙌
588-589: Mor coming out to Feyre saying that she prefers females. Lowkey feel bad for Azriel because he doesn’t know this information and us not knowing how he would react to it since he’s been after Mor for 500 years is hurting me. But also, Fuck yeah MOR YOU GO GIRL. I’M PROUD OF YOU.
Chapter 68: I LOVE THIS CHAPTER. Feyre looks into The Ouroboros. And it shows her true form and when she realizes it, she accepts it. Not right away, but she accepts it and lives with it. She knows she’s not perfect and has done things that she regrets and will probably always haunt her. Then she goes to the Carver to call upon the bargain that was made.
611-612: Y’all I cackled at the bottom of pg. 611, Feyre looking at Amren in Illyrian leathers and thinking they were so small that they were made for a child // “Don’t tell her, but they were.” Rhys confirming just that lmao // I’m crying while reading pg. 612 again because Rhys’ pep talk to the Inner Circle is so phenomenally put together. He talks to each of them when he’s giving his speech. Saying something about each one and what he’s learned from having them in his life. PLEASE GO REREAD THIS SHIT IT IS …OSCAR WORTHY????
652-653: Elain being smol but badass and penetrating The King of Hybern’s neck with Truth-Teller. // “Don’t you touch my sister.” - Elain
665-666: ALL THE MOTHAFUCKIN FEELS. I have never actually sobbed while reading a book but this fucking book man, this part did me in. I was a complete mess and cried for the rest of the book, honestly, I was in tears while reading the rest. Anyway. // Rhys helping Feyre put the Cauldron back together. Using all of his power like an asshat and DYING WTF. I’m cry 😭 noooo
Chapter 77: Feyre begging the other High Lords to help bring Rhys back, reminds me of the time Feyre died and Rhys convinced them to bring her back in ACOTAR. idk how to put anything into words for this bc it was honestly so emotional and Rhys came back to life and AMREN TOO??????? It was a lot to process.
Chapter 81 Rhysand: When Azriel notices Rhys trying to figure out if he and the Inner Circle actually made it through the war and they were all back home. Thinking it was too good to be true. // “It’s real.” - Azriel to Rhys
Chapter 82 Feyre: The fucking death bargain lol // I feel: that was an awful idea what are you two doing???? USE YOUR BRAIN!!! PLS // I also feel: that is so fucking cute FEYSAND 4L!!!!! #always

Tesla Model 3 Track Mode Meets the Autocross Course
FONTANA, California — Picking up the latest Tesla Model 3 Performance Dual Motor AWD with the newest iteration of Track Mode, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’d only ever driven the dual-motor performance model once before, and then only for a few minutes. The updated Model 3 Track Mode was recently released to the public after some tuning work by racer and test car driving ace Randy Pobst of sister brand Motor Trend. And though the video they posted about it was plenty informative, you can only tell so much through a screen.
Fortunately I didn’t have long to wait to find out what Track Mode was all about, as I’d entered an autocross for this past Sunday. A Cal Club event at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, it’s the home site to a double handful of some of the fastest autocrossers in the nation. If you’re not familiar, autocross is basically a miniaturized time trial event. The peak speeds are lower than you’d typically see on a road course, but the cornering forces can be just as high or higher, and you’re facing the corners many more times per minute—sometimes multiple per second, as in a slalom.
My initial observation wasn’t directly related to how the car drives, but instead to how it is powered. I’d picked up the Model 3 with about 94 percent charge (it reported 291 miles range out of a theoretical 310 mile max). After spending Saturday running nearby errands, the estimator said I had 261 miles of range available when I slipped behind the wheel at 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning. By the time I’d arrived at the Tesla Supercharger in Rancho Cucamonga (the closest to the event site) a little over an hour later, the car was reporting 141 miles of range. It had eaten nearly double the 62-mile actual distance thanks, most likely, to the 50-degree morning … and my somewhat brisk freeway pace.
When I’d worked all this out the day before, I’d figured arriving at the supercharger, a 15-minute drive from the event site, by 6:30 a.m. would give me ample time to charge, seeing as these were the 120-kW chargers that can top up a battery to 100 percent in about 75 minutes. The problem was that I’d expected to have about 200 miles of range, and therefore only need to add another 80-90 miles to be near the 95-percent ideal for track mode effectiveness. That should, in theory, have taken about 30 minutes. But since in reality I needed to add more like 150 miles or so of range, I wasn’t able to get the charge level back up to the ideal 95 percent zone and still make it to the event on time. I got it back up to 265 miles of range at the Supercharger, and arrived at the autocross with 255 miles.
I’m sure you’d figure these quirks out within a year of ownership (once you’d experienced all the seasons), but those of us who live the weekend warrior performance driving life know that sometimes schedules are very compressed. So you should know there’s a bit of a learning curve here, and you can’t just get a splash of 91-octane (or better) at the nearest pump when you’ve got 5 minutes to the end of registration. Plan ahead or you’ll risk a long drive early on a Sunday just to be a spectator. That, or put it on a trailer. But please, really, don’t. This is a great street car, and it begs to be driven to and from every event it enters.
(Side note: the Supercharger was in a mall parking lot, which is I’m sure is usually very convenient. But at 6:30 a.m. on a Sunday, there were no bathrooms, no food, no facilities at all. Sitting in the Model 3’s spartan interior, sleek toroid charge-bots the only attendants, I get the sense that I’m seeing through a window in time to the post-human future, when self-driving cars are the dominant sentient life form. Bleak for humans, but the cars seem happy.)
By the time I’d made it to the autocross course, the surprises were over. It was a windy day, even by Fontana standards, and cool in the morning, warming toward the middle of the day. The surface is older asphalt, a bit eroded on the surface, with a smooth aggregate that doesn’t hold too tightly in its tarry bed. My run group was up first, which meant we’d see the dirtiest, coolest surface—in other words, the least grip—of the day. But I figured that might actually work to my advantage, driving a high-torque all-wheel-drive sport sedan. As it turned out, I think I was correct.
Setting up the Tesla Model 3 for track or autocross use is simple: Get in, put your foot on the brake, wave the card that serves as your key over the magic spot in the console, tap the little car icon on the screen, tap the Driving tab, then tap the Track Mode button, then tap it again on the little warning screen that pops up to confirm. Now all you have to do is not get out of the car. If you do, you’ll have to repeat that little process again. It seems like a lot when it’s written out, but in reality it’s only a couple of second procedure once you’ve done it a few times.
Pull up to the line, wait for the starter to give you the green flag, and then mash the face-stretching pedal. More than five times (I stopped counting) I had experienced autocrossers stepping out of their own high-horsepower rides to comment on how insane the Model 3’s acceleration looks, even from nearly a quarter-mile away. It’s really, really quick, especially in the 20-80 mph range, which is perfect for autocross work.
That first mash will start a powerslide, which, hopefully, you can just keep arcing into the braking zone, because holy heck, you’re already in it. Lift off the throttle before going to brake because you’re not sure how it’ll like pedal overlap and before you even get to the brake pedal the car’s already rotating because the computer is using the energy regeneration function on the electric motors to do what is essentially negative torque vectoring. It’s really smart, surprisingly accurate, and very fun—up to a point.
That point is when you need to press in hard to the real brakes, the Brembo-sourced big-disc baddies that normally deliver excellent pedal feel and consistent stopping force. Unfortunately, the otherwise stellar hardware seems to be let down somewhere along the way. It’s almost as if the ABS tune still isn’t quite right, even after Pobst’s recent go at it. Braking into a fast, bumpy, tight left-hander at the upper portion of the course, the car went into what I’d call “ice mode,” significantly reducing braking effectiveness and giving me a moment of doubt as to my ability to avoid the railing bounding the event site. Fortunately I managed to get the car a bit straighter, release the brakes, and then re-apply them to remain within the course. ABS tuning has been a pain point for the Model 3, but it has been greatly improved already, and I expect to see further improvements here soon, too.
That one little moment aside (I did modify my approach to that corner so as to avoid provoking it as much as I could), I learned quite a bit about how Track Mode handles, or perhaps I should say interprets, hard driving, from restrained and tidy all the way to a tenth or two past 10.
Track Mode’s main feature appears to be that it allows a great deal of yaw and wheel spin before intervening to stop you from whatever ham-fisted course you’ve chosen. Step on the throttle with a bit of angle to the steering, and you can feel the system vectoring torque around to help enhance your desired rotation. Lift off and you can feel it even more—the car rotates almost maniacally on turn-in so long as you’re not hard on the brakes, a decidedly un-typical production car tune. It’s tremendous fun.
You can really lean into it and the car just keeps on taking it. But once you get past the big slides and want to start hitting apexes and shaving down your time, you have to realize that you must come to the car; it will not come to you. I certainly haven’t fully figured out how to drive the Tesla Model 3 Performance to its limits yet; I’d want another week of Sundays to have even a solid start, but there’s some magic to be had re-learning corner entry to include a moment of pure regen braking, I think, and some more time to be gained learning just how early you can open the gates on all that electric torque.
There’s no Corvette-style PTM system there witching you into, through, and out of corners. Come in too hot, and the Model 3 will understeer until you’ve bled enough speed. If you give it a bit too much throttle, it will slide and slide and slide, laying the loveliest of carbon-black strips behind. For these reasons, I strongly advise owners of Model 3s with Track Mode to follow Tesla’s recommendation that you do not engage Track Mode on the street. This isn’t a performance-enhancing safety net. It’s just enough rope to hang yourself if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Fortunately I have at least some idea of what I’m doing, as I won my class at the autocross and brought the car back as shiny as I got it.
A few months ago, when I drove the Model 3 Performance Dual Motor AWD for the first time, I said that it felt like it might be the perfect enthusiast’s car. And while it certainly has its quirks, they’re just that. Quirks. Personality. It’s a car that allows you to play, and even helps you, but does not do the playing for you. If you were to get the Enhanced Autopilot system in addition to all the performance and Track Mode goodies, it might truly be the best of both worlds: a comfy, green car that wil from Performance Junk WP Feed 4 https://ift.tt/2B0QNRE via IFTTT

Mediate Early!
I stumbled upon an article in mediate.com discussing an empirical study conducted in the Singapore Courts about their use of mediation. The actual article, (How Should the Courts Know Whether a Dispute is Ready and Suitable for Mediation? An Empirical Analysis of the Singapore Courts’ Referral of Civil Disputes to Mediation.) appearing in the Spring 2018 edition of the Harvard Negotiation Law Review (Vol 23 at pages 268-317) is written by Dorcas Quek Anderson, and Eunice Chua, both Assistant Professors at Singapore Management University School of Law and Ngo Tra My, a PhD candidate at the Graduate School for Integrative Sciences and Engineering at the National University of Singapore.
Their study was aimed at two questions: Whether a mediation was likely to be more successful the earlier it was referred to mediation and whether other factors played a significant role in the success of the mediation and the participants’ experience at mediation.  (Id. at 275.)
To answer these two questions, the researchers looked at a number of factors, including, the timing and stage of the referral of the case to mediation, the “ripeness” of the dispute for mediation including the time, state and level of contentiousness of the parties, the amount of the claim, the amount of time taken to complete the mediation and whether that occurred in one long session or over several sessions, and the type of mediator such as whether the mediator was legally trained or without legal training. (Id. at 270-294.)
To answer these questions, they looked at 235 civil cases referred to mediation in 2014 and 2015 in the Supreme Court of Singapore (which comprises  the intermediate appellate court and the court of last resort) and 489 civil cases in 2015 in the State Court (which comprises the trial courts such as the District Court, Magistrate’s Court and Small Claims Tribunals) (Id. at 276, 279 and 292.) While the study discusses the results of the Supreme Court and then the State Court separately, it also combines the results to provide an overall conclusion.
As one might suspect, the researchers were able to draw the following conclusions:
Earlier referral of cases is associated with a higher likelihood for resolution at mediation.
Settlement is also more likely when mediation is attempted at the close of pleadings stage without any interlocutory application filed. The likelihood of settlement decreases once pre-trial applications are filed.
Nonetheless, the final multivariate analyses of the combined and State Courts’ studies strongly suggest that there are more critical variables than the timing and stage of referral. (Id. at 308-309.)
As the researchers note- the findings of their study are similar to those of other studies:
“… cases were more likely to settle if there were fewer months between the mediation and when the case was filed, and the findings showing that court cases were less likely to settle if there were pending interlocutory applications. “[i.e., motions on discovery issues, to dismiss or for summary judgment etc.]   (Id. at 309.)
These findings are not surprising. The earlier  the case goes to mediation, the less invested and less entrenched are the parties in the case. If represented by counsel, those fees have not yet become astronomical making it difficult to settle. In fact, the study found that the “…presence of one or more contested applications [i.e. discovery or motion disputes] decreases the odds of settlement by 22% (in the combined data) and 23% (for the State Courts) ….” (Id. at 310.)
Similarly, the researchers found a “substantial association” between the amount in dispute and the likelihood of settling the claim. With respect to “…the combined court data, every $100,000 [$1.00 =USD$.75] increment in the quantum of dispute decreases the probability of settlement by 1%.”  (Id. at 310.)  Thus, the smaller the amount in dispute, the more likely the case would settle at mediation, especially if the settlement covered the estimated legal costs. (Id.)
The number of mediation sessions also impacted the prospect of settlement. “The likelihood of settlement generally decreases with a higher number of mediation sessions, although it also increases when the number of mediation sessions is unusually high. “(Id. at 313.)  At the same time, the likelihood of settling increased by 17% with each hour spent at mediation. Thus, the longer the mediation session, the more likely the case would settle. Perhaps, momentum played a role, here. (Id.)
Finally, the study found no real connection between whether the mediator was legally trained and the settlement rate at mediation. (Id. at 290-291 and 301.)
The conclusion: mediate early before the case and the parties become contentious, entrenched and emotionally attached to the case and the outcome.
…. Just something to think about.

The North Shore makes the perfect weekend or week long family trip! Stunning state parks, cozy cabins and plenty of R&R can be found along the shores of Lake Superior.  Just six hours from Des Moines, Iowa, the adventure begins in Duluth, Minnesota!
A Weekend Guide to the North Shore with Kids
Duluth
With a population of around 86,000, Duluth Minnesota feels surprisingly small. Built up between a rocky ridgeline and the largest body of water in North America, there is much to do and see in this unique city.
Duluth offers the North Shore’s only sand beach! Five miles of clear water beauty at Park Point just a quick fun drive over the Aerial Lift Bridge.
A parking lot and public access to the beach are located on the left hand side of the street a couple blocks after crossing the bridge.
What separates Duluth from other communities is the outdoor natural landscape. Duluth has 6,834 acres of city parklands and 178 miles of wooded trails.
We had a great time visiting Enger Park and climbing the tower. The views are incredible! There is a charming Asian garden, several nice walking paths and picnic spots.
Duluth has the usual collection of family entertainment with an aquarium, zoo, children’s museum, railroads and entertainment parks. A SCI membership gives free admission to both the zoo and children’s museum.
Lake Superior Zoo hosts the stunning Kingsbury Creek, which sadly experienced flooding a few years back resulting in the loss of some animals and exhibits. That being noted, the zoo is still a fun visit with a fantastic Nocturnal Animal Building, petting zoo and Griggs Learning Center which features lots of hands-on encounters and learning. We spent around two hours visiting the zoo and really enjoyed our time there.
Duluth Children’s Museum has a few unique exhibits like a Hover Chair. The museum is overall smaller than the children’s museums in Iowa and geared more toward preschool aged children, although my first graders did enjoy our hour-long visit. Driving directions can be confusing.
Our family visited Spirit Mountain to ride the Alpine Coaster. While we had fun, our overall feeling was that the price didn’t reflect the value. We probably just tend to lean more toward the free natural experience in the region.
  Highway 61
Highway 61 along the North Shore begins in Duluth, MN were Interstate 35 ends. HWY 61 is the main route all the way north to Canada. There are limited side roads or backways.
There are two portions of HWY 61 between Duluth and Two Harbors; old HWY 61 along the shoreline (one lane in each direction) and new HWY 61 which is a fast four lane HWY).
Along old HWY 61 between Duluth and Two Harbors is the Great! Lakes Candy Kitchen. A cute play area for little ones and hammocks hung from trees great a relaxing yard where you can snack on all the yummy treats.
Look for Tom’s Logging Camp, Betty’s Pies north of Two Harbors, historical museums, overlooks, water access roads, state parks with water falls and more!
The best way to plan a trip is to pick up a North Shore guide which lists all the attractions, lodging and more in terms of miles along highway 61 from Duluth.
  Grand Superior Lodge
With so much outdoor entertainment, lodging takes on a special role along the North Shore and the Grand Superior Lodge doesn’t disappoint.
The best thing about the Grand Superior Lodge is how close you are to the water. We slept at night with the windows open, listening to the crashing waves. Read our full review HERE and weekend meal plan!
Gooseberry Falls & the Superior Hiking Trail
Gooseberry Falls is an amazing state park along Highway 61 about an hour north of Duluth.
The Upper, Middle and Lower falls are all easily accessible by stroller along smooth hard-surfaced walkways. A modern visitor center with gift shop is the entrance point to the falls.
Swimming is not recommended at Gooseberry Falls State Park, however you can bring water shoes and wade in the edge of the river or climb the slippery rocks. Our family loved this state park and spent over three hours here.
Superior Hiking Trail overlaps park trails and it worth the hike to Fifth Falls. Our seven year-olds had no trouble on these more challenging fun trails!
SHT is over 310 miles of foot paths along the rocky ridgeline of Lake Superior. It was named one of the top ten best hiking trails in the world by Backpacker Magazine.
The continuous trail is has lots of access points and runs through state parks along Highway 61. This makes it easy to hike smaller portions with your children.
We did two-hour hikes with our seven year-olds in Gooseberry and Tettegouche state parks. The trails are well maintained and along neat geological features like water falls and rivers. Daddy carried a day pack for us with water, snacks and other necessities like wipes and tissue.
  Split Rock Lighthouse State Park
Don’t miss a venture down to Agate Beach and the rocky cliffs overlooking the lake! It’s worth the $5 day pass fee which will also allow you to visit Split Rock Lighthouse State Park pebble beach which is just a few miles away from Gooseberry Falls State Park.
We studied about lighthouse before our visit, reading books like ‘Keep the Lights Burning, Abbie’ and The Lighthouse Family Series. We skipped the tour of Split Rock lighthouse and visited another lighthouse in the Apostle Islands.
We spent our afternoon hiking along the rocky shore line and enjoying the pebble beach. Our son threw rocks into the water for 30 minutes straight and daddy hit an all time record by falling sleep on the rocks.
The leisurely afternoon was relaxing and peaceful.  Several times I caught the children just staring off into the water and thinking. I loved that this special place gave our children the opportunity to ponder.
We hope you enjoyed Weekend Guide to the North Shore with Kids! Please let us know what adventures your family is having.
* We do our best to maintain accurate information, but please check with designations before planning a visit.
Weekend Guide to the North Shore with Kids – Minnesota The North Shore makes the perfect weekend or week long family trip! Stunning state parks, cozy cabins and plenty of R&R can be found along the shores of Lake Superior.

Unlimited Free Smurfberrys! ( Also On IGN.)
You will need to be at least level 25 and do the quests to unlock the mountain. (To level up just use pumpkin and then change the date forward a day. ) When you go to the Mountain there is a little pile of rocks. Just tap it and you will see that you need resources to build 1/5 of it. Now to get the resources do the following: Wood: To get wood just add a day to your time and then get it at timber smurfs. Repeat until you have enough. Stone: To get stone just add a day to your time and then get it at miner smurfs. Repeat until you have enough. Dye: To get this you will need 100 coins per 2 Dye you want. Go to the island and if you don’t have architect smurf build it (change the date for free instant build. ) Now just send rafts out on a dye voyage and they will each come back with 2 dye (Change the day forward a day for the raft to instantly come back. Each time you click build it will take either 1 or 2 days Just change the date forward a 2 days and do the next step. After you entirely build the windmill (Takes a while. ) You tap it for a smurfberry. Change the date forward a week (or a month since its faster. ) and go back. You will have another smurfberry. Repeat this step a bunch and you will be rich in smurfberrys for free!

Fast Cash Glitch
You can get some cash quick from your crops by playing with the time a little. First, head to your phone’s Settings menu and choose “General.” Next, select “Date and Time” and turn off “Set Automatically” and change the time for your crops manually. But note, you can only get away with this glitch about 20 times before some Smurfs leave. This messes with your phone’s time a little, but works good if you play over many days.
Using Autosave To Restore Village
The iphone game automatically saves the village each day. If you want to revert to a previous day or lost your village for any reason you can use the following hidden feature: Start the game, select Options from the main menu and tap Papa Smurf 16 times (not the “Restart Game” feature next to his icon). After the 16th time a new option will be available in the bottom right corner called “Recover Village”. Select it to find a list of saved games.
