Happy September 1st everyone! 🍂 As you might know if you have been around here for a while, my comfort zone knits are sweaters, cardigans and shawls knit on 4-6mm needles. So, basically, fall and winter knits are my all time favorite projects. 🧶 Also I am one of those (crazy?) people who love to knit with very warm and rustic wool all year around - even in the hottest time of summer. 🤪 This is why I casted on a fall project a few weeks ago in the middle of July when I felt very overwhelmed and it was still 30°C out. 🥵 Since then I made good progress. Even though I am quite confident at this point that this project will be a success, I am not quite ready yet to show you what I have got so far. But I can show you the yarn that I am working with. And since it has the most gorgeous deep rusty tones, I thought today would be the perfect day to do so. I am holding two strands together: One strand of Filcolana Tilia which is a typical silk mohair yarn and one strand of the wonderful unspun Plötulopi by Ístex. I have worked with both yarns before and absolutely LOVE this combination. It is super warm and so, so light at the same time. I hope you are looking forward to the upcomming season as much as I do! Have a lovely September! 🐿 🍃🍂🍁 #yarnlovers #yarnlove #yarnloversofinstagram #yarnlover #plötulopi #plötulopiyarn #plotulopi #istex #ístex #istexplötulopi #tilia #filcolana #filcolanatilia #tiliafilcolana #pløtulopi #knitting #herbgardenknitwear #fall #september #september1st #autumn #herbgardenknitwear #knittingseason #knit #handknitting #autumnvibes #autumnknits #fallknits #fallvibes https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch97pmeIwlg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

do you mostly use acrylic? if not, what kind of yarns do you recommend?
I almost never knit with acrylic! My favorite yarns are 100% wool, silk mohair and suri alpaca. I like 100% non superwash wool because it is affordable, beautiful and hardy. One of my favorite yarns I've recently discovered is blue sky fibers woolstok worsted, it's on the toothier side (not as soft) but ideal for really warm and affordable garments. My favorite yarn is probably knitting for olive merino bc of the colors and soft matte texture of the yarn. I'm also obsessed currently with unspun icelandic yarn Plotulopi, it's like knitting with cotton candy... Def do some research into the properties of unspun yarn before springing for any though. it's delicate and a bit rustic!

I’ve been hoarding this Plötulopi since my visit to Iceland in January, and the idea for this color combo for even longer. I finally got around to it with this beautiful Fern & Feather pattern, and I can’t wait to see how it turns out. Not sure who I’m knitting this for, sometimes I knit just to knit. ❤️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #strikking #strikketøy #strikketøj #strikketerapi #fernandfeathersweater #icelandicsweater #tradisjon #tradisjonstrikk #knittersofinstagram #knitting #knittingaddict #knittinglove #norwegianknitting #norwegianknitters #norsk #handmade #diy #hobby #craft #yarn #yarns #garn #cozy #koselig #strikkekos #hygge #norsktradisjon #plotulopi #ravelry (at Portland, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2UxzhHpYhv/?igshid=12run02tcszql

Turns out my method for avoiding moths in my homespun by ignoring that I’ve never got around to moving it from the open yarn crawl tote into vacuum sealed bags doesn’t actually work.

Wanna see my yarn options for our Monument Hat KAL? 🧶 Tomorrow we cast on our Monument Hats for the knitalong that Ruth from @raincloudandsage and I are hosting together. Luckily I have three different yarn options in my stash: • a light blue combination of Plötulopi and Filcolana Tilia which both are leftovers from my Turning Skies Sweater #turningSkiesSweater • enough Unspun 2104 from Raincloud&Sage to make an exact duplicate of my sample and • leftovers from the yet unnamed Brioche cardigan that I am currently knitting in a lovely rusty orange which is also Plötulopi and Filcolana Tilia Right now I feel like I would like to knit two more Monument Hats. One exactly as my sample and one in the rusty tones. But please don't hold me to that. 😁 If you are thinking about joining our very relaxed knitalong here are some details: ☆ Start: Dec 18th 2022 ☆ End: Jan 31st 2023 ☆ WIPs are welcome. ☆ You don't need to finish your hat till the end of the KAL. ☆ Use the hashtag #monumentHatKAL to show us your work in progress or finished object. ☆ You can use any unspun yarn that you like. But if you want to use the current batch of unspun by @raincloudandsage with is beautiful charcoal grey and called Unspun 2109, you should order it on Dec 18th at the latest for it to be shipped before the Christmas break. And in case you need one more reason to consider joining the knitalong, I offer a 1€ discount on the pattern for just one day till Dec 18th 23:59h CET when you enter the code "MonumentHatKAL" during the checkout (enter without quotes!). Feel free to let me know if you have any questions before you make your purchase, because the code cannot be applied in retrospect. It would be wonderful, if you decided to knit along with us! ❤ ____ Pattern: Monument Hat by @herbgarden.knitwear Yarn: 2 strands of unspun held together with one strand of silk mohair ____ #monumentHat #discountcode #unspun #knittingpatterndiscount #unspunwool #herbgardenknitwearHats #herbgardenknitwear #raincloudandsageunspun #unspun2109 #unspun2104 #cabledbeanie #cabledhat #knitalong #newknitalong #yarnchoices #yarn #yarnlovers #yarnlove #kal #relaxedknitalong #plötulopi #plotulopi https://www.instagram.com/p/CmR4mrroZ5x/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

cast on a hat earlier and I think it's a 'pattern' worth sharing! or at least saving for myself for later.
using german twisted cast on, co 64 stitches with bulky yarn (I'm using plotulopi held double) and 6.0 or 6.5mm needles. (I'm using 6.5mm this time but idk how itll fit yet lol I highly recommend doing a gauge swatch instead of working off of vibes...)
r1: knit all
r2: *sl1wyib, p3* all round, or 16 times for a 64 st hat.
continue working r1 and r2 until shaping.
and from there I still need to figure it out but I might reblog w shaping later.

Sidensvans by Frida Oskap, knit in plotulopi! the pattern was inspired by traditional swedish dress vests. i got the lovely buttons from my mom and knit the entire thing while binging The Expanse with my boyfriend over the weekend. it was an interesting mix of slow craeft and high-tech brilliantly made sci-fi. would recommend (and would recommend this pattern, it was my first time doing colour work and it was a good introduction to it!)
