Turns out my method for avoiding moths in my homespun by ignoring that I’ve never got around to moving it from the open yarn crawl tote into vacuum sealed bags doesn’t actually work.

Happy September 1st everyone! 🍂 As you might know if you have been around here for a while, my comfort zone knits are sweaters, cardigans and shawls knit on 4-6mm needles. So, basically, fall and winter knits are my all time favorite projects. 🧶 Also I am one of those (crazy?) people who love to knit with very warm and rustic wool all year around - even in the hottest time of summer. 🤪 This is why I casted on a fall project a few weeks ago in the middle of July when I felt very overwhelmed and it was still 30°C out. 🥵 Since then I made good progress. Even though I am quite confident at this point that this project will be a success, I am not quite ready yet to show you what I have got so far. But I can show you the yarn that I am working with. And since it has the most gorgeous deep rusty tones, I thought today would be the perfect day to do so. I am holding two strands together: One strand of Filcolana Tilia which is a typical silk mohair yarn and one strand of the wonderful unspun Plötulopi by Ístex. I have worked with both yarns before and absolutely LOVE this combination. It is super warm and so, so light at the same time. I hope you are looking forward to the upcomming season as much as I do! Have a lovely September! 🐿 🍃🍂🍁 #yarnlovers #yarnlove #yarnloversofinstagram #yarnlover #plötulopi #plötulopiyarn #plotulopi #istex #ístex #istexplötulopi #tilia #filcolana #filcolanatilia #tiliafilcolana #pløtulopi #knitting #herbgardenknitwear #fall #september #september1st #autumn #herbgardenknitwear #knittingseason #knit #handknitting #autumnvibes #autumnknits #fallknits #fallvibes https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch97pmeIwlg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

do you mostly use acrylic? if not, what kind of yarns do you recommend?
I almost never knit with acrylic! My favorite yarns are 100% wool, silk mohair and suri alpaca. I like 100% non superwash wool because it is affordable, beautiful and hardy. One of my favorite yarns I've recently discovered is blue sky fibers woolstok worsted, it's on the toothier side (not as soft) but ideal for really warm and affordable garments. My favorite yarn is probably knitting for olive merino bc of the colors and soft matte texture of the yarn. I'm also obsessed currently with unspun icelandic yarn Plotulopi, it's like knitting with cotton candy... Def do some research into the properties of unspun yarn before springing for any though. it's delicate and a bit rustic!

I’ve been hoarding this Plötulopi since my visit to Iceland in January, and the idea for this color combo for even longer. I finally got around to it with this beautiful Fern & Feather pattern, and I can’t wait to see how it turns out. Not sure who I’m knitting this for, sometimes I knit just to knit. ❤️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #strikking #strikketøy #strikketøj #strikketerapi #fernandfeathersweater #icelandicsweater #tradisjon #tradisjonstrikk #knittersofinstagram #knitting #knittingaddict #knittinglove #norwegianknitting #norwegianknitters #norsk #handmade #diy #hobby #craft #yarn #yarns #garn #cozy #koselig #strikkekos #hygge #norsktradisjon #plotulopi #ravelry (at Portland, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2UxzhHpYhv/?igshid=12run02tcszql

Using up the last of my plötulopi on some socks. Thought I’d work on them while giving my cat some yard time. Except I forgot she has a strict ‘no hobbies other than me’ rule.

Good morning! Well, my son Arthur and I are just back from walking Aphrodite and Juno along the seafront. It’s a fabulous way to start the day. I finished my wild horses yesterday, and thought I’d bring it out for a test run / quick pic or two.
The thing I love about Plötulopi yarn, apart from their beautiful colours, and once you’ve got past its tendency to break a lot, is its cloud-like quality. This sweater is SUPER-light, but so warm.
Too warm, actually, for even the chilliest August morn.
I’ve a little tweaking to do, then I’ll be working on the pattern 💛 https://www.instagram.com/p/CSv4atVo-Ig/?utm_medium=tumblr

Sidensvans by Frida Oskap, knit in plotulopi! the pattern was inspired by traditional swedish dress vests. i got the lovely buttons from my mom and knit the entire thing while binging The Expanse with my boyfriend over the weekend. it was an interesting mix of slow craeft and high-tech brilliantly made sci-fi. would recommend (and would recommend this pattern, it was my first time doing colour work and it was a good introduction to it!)

Yesterday I shared some swatches that I made over the past few days in my stories. I had a really hard time to decide what my next project would be even though I was aching to cast on something new. So that kept me thinking... Why was is sooo hard to decide that I could not make up my mind for days? 🤔 I thought about that a lot and came to the conclusion that I might have put too much pressure on myself lately. I really want to create beautiful new designs for you. Designing is what I love! But sometimes I feel I cannot live up to my expectations. This might have something to do with my #boughsOfHollySweater 🧶 I have been trying to grade it for so long now, but I am still not done with it. Grading the sleeves for the larger sizes is just a nightmare, because there are so little rounds where I can place the decreases. Long story short, yesterday I decided that I needed a mindless project right now. Something that I would love to knit, that would be easy and work up fast. Something with as little obstacles as possible. Something with no pressure attached. So, I finally casted on something new! Yay! 🥳 And I am so glad I did! This is going to be a cropped drop shoulder sweater and I am in love already. This is my first time working with Plötulopi and this yarn really is one of a kind! Can you believe that I got all that sweater out of ONE single plate of Plötulopi?! 😲 Amazing, right? And it knits up SO fast. I managed to knit all this in just 5 hours! Also the fabric is so squishy, the color is just stunning and then there is this awesome sheepy smell! 😍 I am so glad that I have casted this one on! I really needed to feel the knitting joy that I am feeling right now. Sometimes it is the simplest Stockinette project that I will enjoy the most. A very happy Sunday to you all! 💕 #newcaston #herbgardenknitwear #designing #designingprocess #patternwriting #patternwriter #patterngrading #gradingsweaters #stockinette #stockinettestitch #istexplötulopi #istexyarn #plötulopi #plötulopiyarn #plotulopi #istexunspun #islandicyarn #unspunwool #unspunyarn #newproject #newknittingproject #knittingisselfcare #selfcareknitting #thejoyofknitting #knittingjoy https://www.instagram.com/p/CTtx4qsoHEN/?utm_medium=tumblr
