spoilers for TLOU Part II but something that never sat well with me was how in one of the flashbacks Joel didn’t have a strong reaction to Ellie nearly getting killed by a bloater. like,,,,,,excuse me? I’m normally up to bat for this game, I am its personal defense attorney until my last breath, but this has always irked me. we’ve seen Joel react to Ellie being put in dire situations prior and the initial response would ALWAYS have a profoundly emotional reaction. remember how he desperately gave Ellie CPR after she nearly drowned? remember how he responded when he was told she would die in the operating room? Joel has almost always helmed that penchant of protectiveness, that protector role, so seeing Ellie amidst any potential threat should elicit that emotional response that defines him. but all he essentially said was “oop that was too close.” THAT WAS YOUR SURROGATE DAUGHTER NEARLY DYING VIA *THAT* DEATH ANIMATION?? HUH?? his protective nature was on display whilst saving her but no where was it present in the immediate aftermath. but it absolutely should’ve

basically what I’m saying is assuming this scene is adapted for season 2 of the hbo series I can picture Pedro “I fail her in my sleep” Pascal putting this to rights. grabbing Ellie into an embrace. breathlessly calling out her name, saying “are you okay, are you hurt” repeatedly. reminiscing the trauma that retroactively formed him as he had nearly lost his daughter all over again. the response should be immediate and emphatic. they are two stray cats that cannot be adopted separately. Joel should always be malleable to the fear of losing her. I hope they cook

starting with joel bits. joel continuing his arc of just wanting his kid to survive, even if it’s without him. fuck you for that writers >:,(

i’m glad we got to see bits of american dreams slipped into this episode. like the (insidious, rather than loud and militaristic) talking to in the office and the walkman-related bullying. ellie wallowing in loneliness after riley left was well-appreciated as an aid for the episode’s build-up.

storm reid is so good as riley!! amazing chemistry between her and bella. their interactions were so entertaining and cute.

i love that in the bts, the mall trip is described as a date (but not a date)!!! i never really saw it that way in the dlc but i love this rendition. and it was definitely much more romantic than the game. the longing looks between these two....man. ellie fixing her hair to look good in front of riley, her zoning out when she’s close or holding her hand, nervously pushing her away to not make a fool of herself. MAN. and riley actually getting to hint her own feelings! GOOD GOOD GOOD

the game was very teasing about subtext and ambiguity and i’m really glad that they’re solidifying a lot of things. it’s like age-old questions finally being answered. like did riley feel the same way the whole time? was her reaction to the kiss more like “it’s okay” or “don’t apologize, i feel the same way”? so nice to know there’s no ambiguity here. (now if only we could get ellie to say “hey i don’t like men :)” so ppl can shut up about her being bi, that’d be great pls and thank you neil and craig.)

though one thing i’m glad they didn’t expand on was how exactly riley died/ellie escaped. that’s something definitely better left unseen/unconfirmed.

in general, i reallllyyyy like being able to experience these events in a brand new light rather than experiencing the game years after it first got big. mourning with the masses and seeing ellie and riley kiss when others do just hits different.

bella’s really shining more and more in these. obviously we already know her acting chops are great, but like with ellie, it’s so cool to see her slowly take center stage as the episodes progress.

i am NOT ready for david. i’m not ready for the cannibals. please please don’t get more explicit with the pedo shit. the level of ambiguity there is FINE, NEIL AND CRAIG.

Loads of Leeds fans have been reacting to a huge managerial update, as Paul Heckingbottom is all set to become Hibernian manager.

According to Sky Sports, Heckingbottom is in line to take over at the Scottish club, and arrived at their East Lothian training centre to complete the deal on Wednesday.

Hibs have been without a manager since Neil Lennon left last month, and they currently sit eighth in the Scottish Premier League, a whopping 19 points below the big two.

Loads of Newcastle fans have been reacting to an update on their striker situation, as Joselu will reportedly not leave the club this month.

After a report from The Chronicle claimed Newcastle could yet sell Joselu before the end of the month, a deadline day report has quashed any chance of an exit for the Spaniard.

According to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, the Spaniard is convinced he will stay at the club despite the speculation surrounding his future.
