I made a top 10 list for the 2010s and it took me like a month to round them up 😂 But ok lets do whatever I remember as good top 10:

1. BNHA: like c’mon of course its here2. FMA: both FIGHT ME3. Haikyuu: it makes me happy4. Nozaki-kun: its so funny needs more seasons5. Cowboy Bebop: i wanna be this cool6. Hunter X Hunter: @ togashi pls finish this i want moreHONORABLE MENTIONS: -Dr Stone: im up to date with the manga and what’s coming is so good, the anime could easily crawl its way up to the top 10-Banana Fish: so good, made me cry, hate that ending hurts like b-Kids on the Slope: music, characters, amazing-Durarara: Celty and Shizuo shall i say more??-Tsubasa Chronicles: its the first manga i read, i love the story.

18. 10 worst disliked anime you have watched

haha SPICY pleeeeeeeease know that because i don’t like something doesn’t invalidate you liking it or that the thing is actually bad. :)

1. Toradora: i just hated that ending2. Food Wars: this was a case of “didn’t read the tags before watching” i liked the food portion of this, i don’t want them to eat it3. Fire Force: music, animation, story, characters? amazing. Add non stop “fanservice” completely ruined all i mentioned before.4. Tsurune: i don’t like it. Art is good tho.5. Sarazamai: ……its….too weirdOH EDIT 6. b the beginning: GOD I HATED THIS ONE it made no sense ppl were saying the protag looked like will graham why did i listen. i erased this from my memory

7-10. ???????????????????????????????????????I usually try to move on from not liking something so its hard for me to remember what else i didn’t like, also im easily entertained😂

INTRO TO ANIME: A COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE

want to get into anime? well, you’ve come to the right place BUD. below, i have some personal recommendations for people who don’t know where to start/wondering where to go from x, y, or z

ESSENTIALS (these shows are classics/must-watches in order to be ‘initiated’ into anime. once u watch these, u can start branching off into ur personal taste more):

COWBOY BEBOP - a space odyssey. beautiful, tragic, and groovy as hell -inspired by jazz, specifically bebop (hence the name) as well as western culture, bebop is a perfect entry level anime for someone not fully used to anime tropes and whatnot. i would recommend the english dub for THIS anime and only a handful of others, mostly because of stephen blum’s amazing job at voicing spike. if you really dig this anime and want more like it, i would watch samurai champloo. it is bebop’s spiritual successor in some sense. both have a trio of misfits each on their own individual journey, and both are inspired by western culture and music. champloo has more of a hip-hop spin, which is pretty cool.

AKIRA - this is a movie, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s a classic. it actually inspired 2012′s chronicle. this movie is important in multiple aspects, one of them being the animation, which was insanely impressive given the time period it was made in. they also spent hella money making it, so ig thats the tradeoff. i dont rly wanna say much about the movie, just go watch it for yourself. (i watched the sub for this)

FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST: BROTHERHOOD - this one is kind of an investment. clocking in at around 64 episodes, its pretty daunting, especially for someone just getting into anime. however, i promise you, it is most definitely worth its time. an expansive, yet intimate story, fma:b is the perfect blend of action/adventure and all the warm & fuzzy shit that makes u wanna listen to blonde while laying on ur bed. it also has significantly more “anime” tropes than the first two i’ve mentioned, but it’s not to the point where it is overpowering or annoying, which can be the case for some recent shows dropping these days. fma:b is set in a world where alchemy is the main form of science. it’s basically magic, though. the way the uncover the story is really interesting and the payoff is really great. this one is a keeper, and a great gateway drug to “real” anime.

also, i would just watch a handful of ghibli movies. princess mononoke, castle in the sky, kiki’s delivery service, spirited away, nausica valley of the wind, howl’s moving castle

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (this is the stuff you want to start watching once u finish the essentials. some of them might be a bit lower quality than the essentials, but MOST of them are AS good, or if not better than some of the essentials. the only reason i have them in here is because they usually are more enjoyable after getting ur feet kinda wet in the anime world first.)

JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE - i don’t even know where to start with jojo. just do yourself a favor and watch it. part 5 never.

MOB PSYCHO 100 - this one is fire too. made by the same artist as one punch man, this anime is short and sweet. art style is hella dope

GARDEN OF WORDS (KOTONOHA NO NIWA) - same studio who made kimi no na wa. the animation is suuuuuuuper fucking sexy. it’s classified as a “movie”, but its only like 40 something minutes long. its a pretty relaxing watch, although i will admit its more shine than substance, at least in terms of story.

NEON GENESIS EVANGELION (AND THE END OF EVANGELION, MAKE SURE TO WATCH THE EOE RIGHT AFTER THE SHOW) - nge is another anime for the CULTURE. this show shaped many character archetypes still seen today, and is highly praised for its topics and dark, psychological tone, mostly seen in the second half of the show, which hits the fucking rails. ive also noticed this show is quite polarizing, but you’ll find more people in the love camp than cynical camp on this one. also, do not watch this unless ur depressed or want to be depressed, bc it will fuck u up

BOKU NO HERO ACADEMIA (MY HERO ACADEMY) - this is a rather recent show (actually, probably the most recent one on this list), and despite the large amount of garbage being put out these days, this one is something really special. think anime sky high. or anime harry potter for kids w superpowers. that’s pretty much all you need to know. there’s two seasons and they are currently making a 3rd one i believe. this anime gets me hella fucking hyped, so if u like fights, check this one out. fighting isnt a main aspect of the show, but when they do it, they fucking execute it really well.

PARASYTE - i havent seen this one in a while, but i remember really enjoying it. its about these parasites than land on earth, one of which infects the main character, who manages to isolate it to his right hand. he then goes on a bloody rampage. its also kinda creepy but the payoff is pretty decent iirc

THE TATAMI GALAXY - i watched this one a couple months ago. its 11 episodes long, but it packs in a lot of content, mainly due to the supersonic dialogue. seriously, you’ll need to get used to how fast everyone talks. once u do though, it’s decently manageable. tatami galaxy is about a 3rd yr college student who wonders what his life would’ve been like if he joined x y or z club during freshman year. its a great coming of age story, and also really fucking quirky. the art style is unique and really dope. soundtrack is fire too.

STEINS;GATE - this is a TIME TRAVEL ANIME. and its a giant mindfuck. iirc, it was based off of a visual novel. the main character is hit or miss in terms of tolerability. main girl is a super queen. some people i’ve talked to dropped this show before getting to the second half, which is kinda understandable, but i promise you, keep sticking with this anime. once shit hits the fan, its really hard to put this one down.

YOUR LIE IN APRIL (SHIGATSU WA KIMI NO USO) - your lie in april i watched pretty early on in my “anime career”. its inspirational and heartbreaking. watch if it u want something different from action/adventure. obviously, the music in this show is really on point. i dont know much about classical, but they were playing some slaps

HAIKYUU - SPORTS!!!!! haikyuu is about a high school volleyball team trying to get to nationals. seems like a simple story, but the games get hella fucking hype and all the characters are super likeable in their own way. watch this one if u want some mega bromance vibes

LOL WELL at the moment its winter and the seasonal affective depression (also known as SAD lol) has hit me BIG TIME ! since i started working i havent been going outside during the day time much. i feel like the low points hitting me so often has to do with my lack of exposure to the good old sunlight outside???

are you the type to watch an anime series as its running, or wait until the last few weeks to binge watch something. i used to try to keep up with all the new animes and watch at least the first 2 or 3 eps but i cant seem to find any good ones. pls recommend some even tho youre not an anime blog haha

(Getting questions like this makes me feel so flattered skdnsnf thank you for asking!) Right now, I’m the type to wait until the last few weeks to binge a show ^^ I’d usually love staying up to date with an anime to keep up with the hype and discussions but these days I’m way too busy to participate in that so I’ve started just binging anime when I have the time.

As for recommendations, I’m not the best when it comes to currently-airing anime because lately I’ve been more into manga than anything, but I do have some past favorites that I’m totally willing to share:- Mushishi: An episodic, fairly quiet show about the problems caused by spirits (called “mushi”) and how one can come to solve them. The show isn’t very fast-paced, but the pacing suits its style of storytelling very well and the stories themselves are wonderful!- Cowboy Bebop: As you probably know, this show is a space opera about the adventures of a band of bounty hunters. While I haven’t completed it yet, I gotta say that this show totally lives up to the hype! The stories are interesting and the characters are all fun and lovable.- Your Lie in April: Boy meets sick girl; tries to make the best of their time together. While the story is very predictable, the execution is beautiful and heart-wrenching. The art and animation of this show are particularly gorgeous, too. - Nana: A show about two girls with the same name, their friendship, and the drama that results from it. I only watched the last half of this show over my sister’s shoulder, but it made me cry more than any anime on this list. A perhaps too-realistic show.- Koe no Katachi: This is a movie, but it’s so good that I needed to include it on this list. It’s about a deaf girl and her reformed bully, and the experiences they go through to try to reconcile with each other. The art and story are amazing, and it’s seriously an emotional rollercoaster.- Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood: The plot is too complicated for me to explain right now, but can be simplified as this: two alchemist brothers journey to find the sorcerer’s stone. This show is a 10/10 must-watch for any anime fan, with its compelling story, fantastic action, and amazing cast of characters. - Anohana: A group of friends come together again for the first time in the years after their friend’s death. I watched this show a few years ago, so it’s hard for me to pinpoint specific reasons why it’s good, but I can tell you that it’s very heartwarming and emotional and will probably make you cry. It’s also one of jeongguk’s favorite anime :)- Konosuba: ahh konosuba! This show is a light-hearted comedy that makes fun of all the isekai tropes you’ve seen a thousand times before. The animation is wonderful and the humor impeccable. If you’re looking for a fun show to make you laugh, this is it.- Chihayafuru: This anime is about one girl’s journey to become the best at a card game called karuta. While it may not seem like the most exciting premise, please give it a try because it is one of the most amazing and underrated anime I have ever watched. - Kaichou wa Maid-sama/Lovely Complex/Tsurezure Children/Kimi ni Todoke/Ouran Highschool Host Club: While it’s probably unfair of me, I put all of them into one category because I don’t have the energy to write out an explanation for all of them. They’re all light-hearted, fun, and cute shoujo shows. Though their stories may not be the most complex, they are extremely enjoyable.- Akatsuki no Yona: Although this show is a shoujo, I’m separating it from the rest because it includes more action than your normal shoujo show. It’s very interesting because the protagonist grows a ton from a spoiled princess into a badass leader. It’s also a reverse-harem, but that aspect doesn’t suffocate the rest of the story.- Mob Psycho 100: Young boy fights ghosts with psychic powers. I’m sure you’ve heard the hype around this series, and it’s all truly worth it. The characters really make the show, but the art and animation are also out of this world.- My Hero Academia: PLEASE! WATCH! THIS! SHOW! I’m such trash for mha, and while the first season may not seem like the most incredible thing in the world please watch it at least to the tournament arc because it is so!!! so good. While the characters seem fairly standard for a shounen, they’re kept fresh by great writing. This show takes all your shounen tropes and refines then to a T. I love all my little superhero children.

1. Favorite anime?

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, and if I had to get specific, DiU. It’s not my favorite part but obviously the others have yet to be animated. We shall see. I also really love HxH, Cowboy Bebop, Mob Psycho and Fullmetal will always have a place in my heart. Yeah, I know, kinda generic answers. *shrugs*

2. Your worst anime?

I can’t do SAO, and I absolutely loathe Fairy Tail. The sudden “THROUGH THE POWER OF NAKAMA, I AM S TRONK” stuff makes me cringe when it’s in sheer excess. But honestly, if I find it horrid, I just stop watching and wipe it from my memory sooooo I can’t think of too many. I also can’t call anime “my worst anime”, just anime I couldn’t get into or didn’t like. Watching DBZ, for example, becomes a drag because it’ssofreakingslowfinishthefightalready. But there’s no denying that it’s a classic and inspired a lot of stuff that came after it.

3. Do you read the manga that goes along with the anime you watch?

I actually read manga far more than I watch anime. It’s faster for me and I get the author’s original intended plotline. Also, I’m impatient and I wanna know what happens. I usually watch the anime after I’ve read the manga. Though, recently, I’ve finally started watching more anime without the manga.

4. Most favorite genre?

I guess shounen? But there are plenty shounen I can’t stand as well. I can’t say for sure one thing, but I do like the introspective psychological thrillers like Paranoia Agent. I also like anime that kind of poke fun at its genre and doesn’t take itself too seriously like Jojo’s and OPM. And honestly a lot of anime switches tones/dives into all sorts of different genres (HxH), but I do need my action.

5. Least favorite genres?

See, I want to say Shojo, but I love Akagami no Shirayukihime to bits. Maaaybe straight-up horror. Not because they’re not good, though. It’s because I’m a chicken.

6. Favorite character/s?

We’re gonna be here all day pls. Caesar, Jotaro, Kakyoin, Rohan, Gyro, Diego, Hot Pants, Yasuho, and Jojolion’s Kira from JJBA because I love WAY too many chars from that. Akutagawa from BSD. Shigeo, Teru, and Reigen from MP 100. Arima from Tokyo Ghoul. Those are the ones off the top of my head. I’m bad with favorites.

7. Least favorite character/s?

I can’t stand Sakura from Naruto, but I mostly blame the poor handling of her story because she was cool in the saving-Gaara arc. I really don’t like Koichi from JJBA idk why.

8. Qualities you like in a character?

Clever, I guess. I don’t care if they’re goofy (Joseph Joestar) or an edgelord (Itachi). As long as they don’t come off horribly annoying, they can really mix up a show and make it more interesting. I also really do love my villains. Like Hisoka from HxH is unpredictable, so when he’s around, it’s hard to tell which way the story’s gonna go next. I’m just a sucker for morally gray (or just not moral) characters.

9. Short or long anime?

Short lately for saving time’s sake. I also have the worst attention span. But I have made it through long stuff. *cough Jojo’s cough*

10. Anime or manga?

Manga for getting more story faster and just aaaart. Anime for VA, animation, music, ughhh. I like both. So much effort goes into both. I just hate it when the anime stops being faithful like Tokyo Ghoul’s s2 COMPLETELY GOING AGAINST the manga’s story. The choices they made for that also lacked logic. Waste of decent animation and budget >.<

11. How do you choose the anime you watch?

Usually good reviews, friends’ recs, the studio, and seeing if I like the plot summary.

12. Skip or listen to intros/outros?

Depends on the OP/ED and if I’m in a hurry to squish in an episode. If it’s pretty and catchy I usually don’t skip.

13. How do you cope if your friends or family don’t like you watching anime?

I separate my friend groups so I don’t dump my weeb fangirling woes on them. As for family...ahaha... I watch when they’re not around. It’s been easier for me to do so now because uni so.

14. Do you stop an anime midway if you don’t like it?

Eyup. Definitely. I’m picky as hell and if something seems too generic I’ll stop. I usually give something 4 episodes to get me hooked unless my friend begs me to keep going. Usually seeing tropey things make me wanna stop immediately.
