I love, love, love the Jan/Feb edition of Poets & Writers. One, it introduced me to some new, amazing poets... and two, it has so many great articles/pieces. Including Jane Hirshfield’s “Reconnecting After a Silence”. Where she gives 7 prompts for getting your writing going after a break. My own poetry has felt stilted, unrefined, rickety... like a rusty, old car trying to turn over it’s grease-less engine. I can't say that I've been to the #deepsouth certainly haven't been to #mississippi and I can easily say that #blackhistory is a huge part of why I'm not in a rush, why I was worried when my best friend, a #youngblackman was on a road trip by himself in the area, wanting him to have enough gas and stay away from any back roads especially at night. There is a strong force from the past still lingering but part of it too is #ignorance he ended up having a nice visit but still the desire to be #bettersafethansorry remains for me. I was falling asleep reading 😴 the second night in a row last night so I couldn't land on anything to post but this #bookspinepoem was on my mind soon as I woke up. A #facebookpost from #twoyearsago I can't remember the source but it def was authentic vs imaginary #lolatmyself for the end bit.
