Hey, uhm I had a question?

Does your shelter have a fostering program? If it does how would one get approved for it?

we do! signing up depends on what kinds of pokemon you're okay with fostering.

for domesticated pokemon such as meowth, maschiff, or growlithe, one simply has to submit a foster application and meet for a quick foster interview. first-time fosters will also be given extra support as they get used to how fostering works.

for non-domesticated but non-hazardous pokemon such as starly, bounsweet, or shinx, you need to either pass a training course from one of the certified programs we use or have two paldean gym badges to show that you're capable of understanding the behaviors of pokemon that weren't bred specifically to interact with humans.

for potentially hazardous pokemon- that is, pokemon of certain types such as poison, pokemon with certain behavioral issues such as resource guarding, or pokemon with a base stat total exceeding 350- we require additional training or a total of at least four paldean gym badges

I know the image looks bad, but Salad is only being grabbed with tongs because a plane flew overhead and it scared her, so she got defensive, and ended up trying to bite me. She's doing fine now, don't worry. But anyway, Salad is a young and timid Sprigatito who likes to keep to herself. While we're working with her to help her gain confidence, it's important for her trainer to do socializing excersizes and all of that stuff. Don't worry too much about her height; she'll grow. How does a typical choosing event happen when a new trainer comes to Peach for their first Pokemon? Can someone adopt one of her rescue pokemon?

The island offers its sevices MOSTLY to older trainers, handing pokemon to kids has never really been the islands MO. It's not off the table, but also not the point of the facility, as many other more easily accessible locations cater to children. Most pokemon on Dotaku have pre-existing conditions, injuries, or behavioural ticks that need adjusting to, not all of course, but a good majority, so handing them to kids just isnt always so viable.

The island has two adoption days each month, scheduled where pokemon looking for a partner can dress up, staff usually get the resident groomers to give everyone a once over, and humans looking for mons are encouraged to come along for the day and take a peak. It is not very formal, a lot of games and events, food vendors and the likes. Staff work overtime to make sure people know about each pokemon, any really special or difficult mons will stick with one of the professors, and they'll explain their needs or personlaity type to interested parties. If nothing else its a very fun day out, where you get to meet a bunch of pokemon!

It's not a case of picking one out and being done with it, some pokemon require home visits before being OK'd for adoption, to make sure you have the right space and items in place to make for a good home. Other smaller pokemon can be adopted on the day, proven that you show a base level of knowledge for caring for living things. These tests are carried out by staff, be it a field worker, lab assistant, or a professor, and if you pass, you pay a small adoption fee, sign some papers, and the process is began. If you fail, you are given the option to reserve the pokemon, so no one else can come and adopt them, and return to take the test again once you are better prepared. This is usually only aplicable for up to a month. It gives people time to get ready for a new friend in their lives too.

Classes are offered to those looking to improve their level of care, and staff insist on these classes with some cases, especially children. in the case of a child finding a partner, we ask that parents come and discuss with us the quality of care that can be provided at home. Without an adult guardian, no child under the age of 16 can adopt from us, to spare pokemon any inadequate living conditions.

There is one golden rule that does dictate a lot of decisons made: Is the pokemon going to be happy?

If a pokemon does not like you, does not want to be adopted by you, is nervous about you, or shows any hesitation, their needs will come above and beyond that of the humans. We have no issue refusing an adoption based on a pokemons opinion, but people are welcomed to return, and try to form a stronger bond with an individual who is open to it.

Should you find a good match, pass our tests, and have adequate resources to care for a pokemon, then with some paperowork, youre free to leave with your buddy. Follow up visits will occur several times within the year to check see that each pokemon adopted out is happy and well cared for. You become an official member of the Dotaku labs clientel, can call for support, bring in any buddies for check ups, and our services are available to you should any illness or issue arise.

Hello everyone! It has been quite some time, has it not? We have been quite busy with personal affairs, and running the adoptions in person. We had no time to update our page with new adopts! Hiroshi also recently injured his leg, though he's back at work, he is taking plenty of breaks.

For adoption? Yep! We have a few that is up for adoption;

Eggplant the Skorupi; This little boy was brought in since someone's ex-boyfriend used him as a 'Take me back' gift. They didn't take him back. And they couldn't take care of a skorupi so he ended up here. Just as you would expect from a 'gift Pokemon' he makes a perfect house pet. Cuddly, not very interested in fighting, obedient, playful, and level-headed. Could be great for families with little kids ^^

Snomnomnom the snom; She does a little tippy tap dance whenever you say her name. I just, I just HAD to mention it. It's adorable. She used to be a contest Pokemon before until her owner dumped her here since he wanted to do 'cool category' contests instead of 'cute category' contests now. She is a fighter and has the patience of a saint. Well-mannered, if not a bit mischievous. You might need to correct her behaviour a little if you want her to evolve but as a snom? It's harmless.

Yarn ball the Tarountula; Oh we have a senior citizen here. This guy was some woman's starter Pokemon, she never went on a journey, never got married nor got other Pokemon. So for years they only had each other. Sadly, she recently passed away and has no one that could take this little man in. He is humble and I admit, a bit lazy. Enjoys basking in the sun or sleeping on someone's lap for hours. Yarn Ball is a great knitter and he enjoys knitting stuff whenever he is not laying away.

A few more Pokemon that could be a good fit; Lady the Ledian, 2 Shelmet's, Oldy MC Old Man the Rabsca (they disrespected him with this nickname), a dustox, Beethoven the Kricketot

And a few eggs; A snom egg, a largest egg, 3 nincada eggs, what im pretty sure is a caterpie egg but we are not sure, around 7 surskit eggs (I fucking hate shiny hunters) and a grubbin egg

Adoption Spotlight: ignatz!

Another specific spotlight, meet ignatz the Unown i ! They are an unfortunate case of an Unown that required amputation due to injury when they were dropped off at our door. However, they've been making a good recovery and are ready to find a forever home!

ignatz distinctly prefer being preferred to with lowercase letters, unlike most Unown, but that only matters in writing. They're a bit childish, having preference for books aimed at early readers. They love playing peekaboo, tag, and other simple games!

We insist that they can't handle a home with fire types due to previous trauma. They are grass Hidden Power type, too, so grass type pokemon are actually a bonus for owners! But they actually are more interested in people than pokemon.

They'll be adopted with they're favourite picture book, a fleece blanket they love, and their toy Igglybuff that never leaves their side!

Hey, a fellow humane society worker here! (Not Paldean though, I work at a smaller one over at Flocessy Town, Unova) And apologies for using your ask box to get this out to more people, but this needs to be said.

With Easter coming up in like a month over here in Unova (I doubt you guys in Paldea celebrate it), PLEASE for the love of Arc and everything that is holy, DO NOT ADOPT A POKEMON LIKE SCORBUNNY, BUNNELBY, AND ESPECIALLY BUNEARY IF YOU ARE NOT OR CAN NOT TAKE CARE OF IT!!!

We already are swamped enough coming off our yearly Applin intake from Valentines, but having so many Buneary, Bunnelby, and the occasional Scorbunny dumped on us because people adopt them as an "Easter Pokémon" and then quickly find out that they aren't able to properly take care of them.

I kid you not, I have at least two or three broken ribs per year because of Bunearys alone. And small side tangent about Buneary, do not go and adopt them just because they're cute. Contrary to what you think, they will not love you almost immediately. Just because they evolve via friendship, doesn't mean that they will make it easy for you. In reality they are highly territorial, easily angered, and tremendously stubborn Pokémon. So please DO YOUR ARC DAMN RESEARCH! No matter what time of year it is you're looking to adopt. Sincerely, every single humane society and shelter worker in existence. (Apologies again, Charlie!)

oh, dude, i totally get it. we've gotten our share of easter bunnelby and scorbunny, since kalos and galar aren't too far and easter is a huge holiday in paldea. thankfully we don't see many buneary, since they're definitely the hardest to care for in a shelter. i would never let a volunteer handle one- and i'd DEFINITELY never give one to a child to take care of.

this also extends to easter ducklett and torchic. i'm so thankful for our local farmers who help us foster the inevitable influx of the poor little guys after easter.

Kernel was dropped off to us by @pokemonranch when they found him hurt, but he wasn't able to be released into the wild. He is doing well now and is quite chipper.

He's young but sociable, loving attention and treats, with his favorite being sweet pokepuffs or vitamin water. He isn't much of a battler and can't move much until he evolves, so it's best to carry him and move him around in a pot. He can't defend himself from flying mons, so please supervise him when you take him outside, but other than that, he's very low maintenance. Make sure you put his pot by a window and keep the blinds open during sunny days! It'll help him grow. He's also VERY vocal. Because of my recent egg situation with my Dustox String Bean (see here) I’m make an info post about what to expected if your interested in one of the wurmple when they hatch. Just some General things anyone should know if they decide they want one.

“Apatura Iris Stellatarum” variant wurple are native to Galar , Kolas and much of the surrounding regions on the Great Peninsula. Generally shy in this part of their evolution .Their preferred diet is made of mostly bedstraw and Willow leaves, but will eat most hardy greens and standard herbivore bug pokemon mix sold at most pokemarts . Abug type like its standard counterpart this variant of Wurmple generally processes the ability “Compound Eye” or “Shield Dust”. Like most variants of wurmple can potentially evolve down two routs. The routs are colloquially called “purple emperor “ and the “hummingbird hawk”

The Cascoon of this line are of the cocoon-less variety and Prefer to spend this duration of this part of life hidden in brush ,fallen leaves or close to the ground partial burrowed in soil . During this time of their life they will generally only consume water , absorbed by the thin more absorbent lines on their chrysalis .When threatened can slowly shimmy itself to another location. A bug type like their standard counterpart this variety generally possesses the ability “sturdy“

The Dustox of the this variant are excellent flyers . Their wings move so fast they’re barely visible when in motion and they can move directionally 360° in flight .Able to make rapid turns and dynamic maneuvers without changing their acceleration. One of the fastest variants of Dustox They’re top speed cabs around 60 mph .The diets at this stage in the evolution consist mainly of nectar that they uses their straw like tongue to collect, but they will eat any easily available fruit material that has been softened enough with time. Apatura Iris Stellartarum-Dustox are a Poison / Flying type and generally possess the ability “Speed boost” or “poison touch”.

Purple Emperor route

Silcoon of the Apatura Iris Stellartarum variant like their cascoon counterpart are of the cocoon-less variety meaning their Chrysalis structure is exposed. They prefer to spend this part of their life camouflage on leafy trees (Willow trees generally) , they don’t generally eat during this portion of their life and will absorb moisture through The outer tissue of their pupa exposed through the gaps in their chrysalis. Like the standard counterpart they are a bug type and generally possess the ability “sturdy”. 

The Beautifly of this variant are comparatively aggressive to their standard counterpart , actively territorial and omnivores. males and females of this variant will fight Each other to to maintain their Territories . Preferring a diet of tree sap, honeydew ,dung, urine and carrion, Apatura Iris Stellartarum beautifly can eat Standard omnivore bug type mix sold at most PokéMarts. possessing a comparatively longer abdomen compared to their standard counterpart it allows them to flex and enhance striking motion from their arms and feet. Apatura Iris Stellartarum Beautifly are a fighting /fairy type and generally possess either the ability “Reckless” or “Cute Charm”.

As the holidays are approaching, I like to remind trainers not to catch or breed certain species just for the aesthetic, or for gifts. A month or two after every holiday, rescue centers get a huge influx of abandoned pokemon who were caught or bred just for those things. Living things shouldn't be reduced to property or appearances, and these Pokémon deserve better.

Although these aren't all the Pokémon in our care right now, and we might not have all of them with us at the moment, here's a list of some that we find quite commonly during and after the spooky season -
