Some evos from inclement emerald
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I boxed Yvonne immediately lol. I might bring her back out once I get good ways of training, but for now? In the box! Boss is( hopefully) a permanent member of the team, so I'm happy for her. I actually never used the lotad line, so again, pretty excited.

Doing a nuzlocke of a rom hack. SCREW INCLEMENT EMERALD.
Sorry. Got a bit sick, that just happens sometimes.
I had gotten to Roxanne's gym, right-
THIS GAME SUCKS.
-And I got to battling with her. Tell me why I was left with nothing but a Corpish that originally wasn't even going to be a part of my team. I brought him to the fight, basically for a meme...
I HOPE THE CREATOR OF THIS MOD STUBS THEIR TOE FOR THE REST OF TIME.
I've lost so many nuzlockes in the past. I honestly don't know what to do with myself. And I was supposedly playing on the default difficulty, too. There were WAY harder options with way less wiggle room. What does that say about me as a Trainer? As a PERSON? Mind you, this is after well beyond 150 failed Unbound attempts (YES, I COUNTED EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM. ASK AND I'LL THROW YOU INTO THE NEAREST OCEAN), and I'm honestly just...
Tired.
I've been at this for literally 3 years at this point, and I've either lost in an embarrassing fashion such as above, was left with everything except my exp dump/hm mule, or had to reset because I'm an IDIOT and basically softlocked my run. I even resorted to CHEATING by reviving mons and still lost.
To put this in perspective, I've easily tripled the time that Pokemon Challenges spent on his Emerald Kaizo nuzlocke, and he's lost over much better reasons under much more strict rules. Miscalculations, preparing for the wrong fight, heck, he loses runs to things that aren't even in his control like crits or freezes or whatever. The worst part? I could easily increase the time it's taking, because of how awful I am.
All the Pokemon I've lost, the ones I had to replace and act like were the ones I knew since the start... All of that falls on me. And I hate that. I'm why they're all gone. And on top of that, I do fine in casual runs, excusing the occasional loss because I also misjudged a Pokemon surviving an attack, again because I'm the dumbest person alive.
I kinda feel like crying, I'm not even going to lie to any of you.
I'm not looking for a pity party. And I'm not sure if I'm joking about any of that or not. Probably not, because I've been told that I can get way too attached to Pokemon sometimes. I just wanted to talk about this.
Sorry if this is long, I just wanted to talk about this. I wasn't going to let my suffering over a game about mystical monsters shooting magic out of their orfaces and dogfighting gods be just a me problem lmfao.

Funny story, I forgot I had two games where I had a Turtwig named Chris, one being Inclement Emerald and the other being Renegade Platinum. So he's on update on the first Chris Turktwig and his team xD

Idk why I always name my Zigzagoons Izzy. I just do. Though I don't always name my Turtwigs Chris.

Not too long ago, I started a Pokemon Inclement Emerald mono-type run on Twitter, just documenting the whole thing through tweets since my decade-old laptop can't handle capturing and editing footage. I'm keen to abandon that one and begin a new mono-type run here on Tumblr, but go all out with it, like draw my team members as I catch them and make it a proper adventure!
That being said, I do tend to jump into new ideas way too fast and then give up on them when my excitement dwindles, so take this with a pinch of salt 😅

goodra!
Tumblr media
Love this soggy beast <3
It's easily one of my favorite Gen 6 pokemon design-wise: a nudibranch elongated into a more reptilian form. Really goes to show just how much more creative dragon-type pokemon designs have become since the start of the series. I plan on catching its pre-evolved form in Inclement Emerald so that I can finally play around with it myself!
Apparently this dragon is incredibly friendly too. I like to imagine that the reason for this is simply because no other pokemon really want to eat this thing. Goodra are massive and absolutely covered in foul-tasting, thick slime all of the time, and if that alone doesn't deter predators then its bulky special defense and high special attack power certainly will! Because of this, goodra end up losing all of the natural fear of their pre-evos and become docile.
While there are humans who enjoy eating goomy and sliggoo, in Kalos it is actually against the law to hunt wild goodra simply because of how willing these pokemon are to befriend humans. Villages that have their own goodra neighbors harvest their slime to make homemade medicine and skin moisturizers, the latter of which being a lot more popular in the beauty-obsessed region.

Wanted to do another hardcore pokemon hack but didn’t wanna suffer through Radical Red again so I’m playin Inclement Emerald and overall its not as hard but I’m on challenge mode and some of these battles have been rough! Here’s my team so far!
Tumblr media
Hitmonchan gets an OP ability that makes all punches get priority and its cheap AF but I ain’t complainin!

they should hire the people that make romhacks to make actual mainline pokemon games. begging anyone who loves pokemon but hates how mainline pokemon games are right now to check out romhacks. specifically from my experience radical red, inclement emerald, and pokemon unbound. i am talking different difficulty modes. i am talking every pokemon up to galar. i am talking mega evos for pokemon that didn't get them in the mainline games. i am talking a proper sidequest system in unbound specifically. difficulty rebalancing so the games are actually challenging. please. fucking play these games so i'm not alone.

You wanna know what the funny thing is?
I would make a series about my rom hack nuzlockes, but one issue...
My attempts never go past the second gym. Like, ever.
Context for that Breloom post, I was doing an Inclement Emerald run, right, and I had gotten two teams worth of Pokemon put on a shirt due to two trainers: Brendan, because of course I did, and I think the twins you see on that bridge before Rustboro.
I was doing awful, but I managed to squeak by every time by using my Bayleef's Razor Leaf.
When I get to Brawly or however his name's spelled, I was doing well, compared to the rest of the run anyway. Now, he has a Breloom...
...With a Toxic Orb...
With Poison Heal as its ability...
...Ice Punch to counter my only answer to Brawly's fighting-types, Oricorio...
...And Bulk Up.
It proceeded to sweep my entire team, causing me to wipe and... Well, I'd say start over, but I've sworn off that cursed game. Never again.
I never meant what I said about Breloom. I apologize, I love that little mushroom kangaroom. That Brawly fight just tilted me beyond belief.
I also have more than 50 Unbound attempts under my belt. And yes, I count, because it's basically become a meme at this point, how much I fail at this point. Some didn't even make it past the first rival fight. Some didn't even make it past the first Team Shadow grunt.

i love both PLA and SV a LOT (i played pla 3 times over<3) and i think the shift to open world works SOOOOOO WELL for pokemon BUT they need level scaling so, so badly.
one of the most fun things to do in open worlds is ignore the story and go off and do your own thing for a while! there's a huge, wonderful interesting world to explore! but with the way that levels of gyms/star bosses/titans are in SV, it is SO INCREDIBLY EASY to become overleveled! or to do things out of "order".
because there is no info or logical progression in terms of area for what gyms/etc are higher level than the others! you have to look up a guide online and follow THAT to keep any modicum of challenge for the actual boss fights of the game. scarlet and violet are extremely fun so far but aside from the bugginess (which is a product of crunch and an awful, WAY TOO FAST release schedule), from a game design standpoint the lack of level scaling in SV is its biggest flaw.
honestly, i think ANY pokemon game could benefit from level scaling- i recently played partway through inclement emerald, a difficulty/catch-em-all romhack of emerald that added level scaling, and WOW it is SO MUCH fun!
imo, pokemon is at its absolute best when your team is basically on-level with the opponents you're facing. in linear experiences like DPP and BW this can happen very naturally if you're training a full team (this happened in my most recent playthroughs of platinum, black, & white 2, just keeping 5-6 pokemon trained without excess grinding led me to being approx the same levels as other trainers & gym leaders) but in non-linear, open world models like SV needs level scaling so badly, because otherwise almost all of the challenge just bleeds away unless you self-impose strict level caps, which can take away from the fun of exploration.
