I just had this small idea of a Pokémon AU? One where the Sbi family helps their younger sibling, who’s nervous around Pokémon, to get more comfortable around them? I just think it’d be cute to have Techno, Wil, and Tommy be good big brothers. And yeah, this is kind of inspired by that kid from the Destiny Deoxys movie, and Lillie from the Sun and Moon games/series.
I don't think I've researched this much for a request XD I even watched the movie! Bonus points to those who know who I based Techno's character off of!
Pokémon Fears
Pairings: Platonic! Tommy, Technoblade, Wilbur, x GN! Sibling! Reader
Warnings: Pokemon Battles?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Technoblade
(Y/N) cheered up in the stands louder than most of the people around them, Phil having long ago given up on quieting his youngest as they were watching his oldest battle. It was the championship and they were against the champion of their region, Technoblade. (Y/N) loved watching Techno during the League battles, though it was a different story off the field.
They roared with the crowd as the finalist last Pokémon was down, Techno patting his Garchomp’s shoulder for a good job.
“Alright.” Phil laughed before picking (Y/N) up and putting them on his shoulders. “Let’s go congratulate Techno.”
Holding onto Phil’s hands as he walked, (Y/N) eagerly chatted about the different Pokémon the other trainers used. It always surprised Phil that (Y/N) was always interested in the different creatures but if one so much as got too close…
(Y/N) squeaked as a Pidgey flew by their head, ducking down. Phil sighed patting their knee.
“It’s alright. They’re not going to do anything.”
Phil and the boys were never quite sure why (Y/N) was afraid of Pokémon, but they just were and couldn’t get near them. They could watch battles from a distance and had a decent amount of knowledge about various types, but couldn’t pluck the courage to be a few steps from them.
Techno was moving away from a few fans when (Y/N) and Phil showed up.
“Techno!” (Y/N) grinned again. “That was so cool! When Garchomp earthquaked their Blaziken-”
Techno chuckled as he took his sibling from Phil and let them ramble.
“Alright, alright.” He told them. “Why don’t we get something to eat and give Phil a break while you talk?”
“Can we go to that good sandwich place?” (Y/N) grinned.
“Yeah, ok. We’ll be home later Phil.”
“Ok, make sure you’re home before ten,” Phil told him and Techno gave a mock salute before walking off.
He let (Y/N) ramble away about the battles as he got their food and brought them to a park, sitting at a more secluded table. (Y/N) went quiet as they began to eat and Techno waited before speaking.
“So, why don’t we try again?” He offered as he took a Pokeball off his belt.
(Y/N) frowned as they shrank in their seat a bit, muttering, “I don’t know…”
“You got really close last time to actually petting Togekiss.” Techno reminded them. “So, why don’t we try one more time?”
“I got really close but I didn’t…I’m still scared.”
“It's ok to be. You sit and watch me battle trainer after trainer after all. You see what they do for battle. You don’t take a lot of time to just sit with them.” Techno said. “So, let’s let Togekiss sit with us.”
Techno let the Pokémon out and the creature let out a small noise as he stood on the table. (Y/N) squirmed in their seat as they looked at the creature.
“Why don’t you keep eating then try and pet him? Ok?” Techno offered and (Y/N) stared at the Pokémon before slowly nodding.
Their lunch continued, (Y/N) even quieter with the creature so close. Techno occasionally gave a bit of food to his Togekiss until both he and (Y/N) were done.
“Alright, now let’s try. Just be gentle, just like this.” Techno pet his Togekiss. “You can do it.”
(Y/N) stared at the Pokémon before reaching a hand out shakily. Togekiss stayed still, having done this a few times before and knowing his movement scared the poor child. (Y/N)’s and hovered above his head before closing their eyes and finally put their hand on top of it. Techno grinned proudly as (Y/N) stayed still for a moment before opening their eyes and grinning themselves when they saw that they actually did it.
“I-I did it!” (Y/N) grinned as they gently pet Togekiss, the Pokémon giving a small noise of delight.
“You did. I told you, you could.” Techno patted their head. “Now, you’ll be a champion before you know it.”
(Y/N) giggled as they smiled lightly at the Pokémon. Yeah, they’d be just like Techno.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wilbur
Wilbur came up to (Y/N)’s door, knocking. A moment later, (Y/N) opened and smiled up at him.
“Hey, kiddo. I’m going to play my guitar with my Pokémon, want to come and try sitting with us today?” Wilbur crouched in front of them.
It was always sad to Wilbur to see his sibling afraid of Pokémon. He knew they had a bad encounter with a more aggressive Taillow but he was sad to see they couldn’t bring themselves to be near other types. It made sense why they were extremely afraid of Phil’s Murkrows but not as much for other types. He actually missed sitting with (Y/N) while he played guitar and his Pokémon sang with them.
(Y/N) hesitated at the doorway before nodding slowly. “Yes.”
Wilbur smiled, ruffling their hair as he stood up. “Ok, get your shoes on and grab your jacket just in case and we’ll go to the park.”
He waited by the front door for them and called to Phil they were going out when they came down. They walked side by side to the park, the pair joking with each other. At one point, Wilbur gave them a shove before sprinting the rest of the way, challenging them as he ran away. (Y/N) laughed before sprinting after him, calling him out for his cheating.
The pair finally sat by the lake and Wilbur tuned his guitar.
“Any requests?” Wilbur looked up at them.
They shifted nervously now as now would be the time to let the Pokémon out and he smiled gently as he ruffled (Y/N)’s hair.
“Hey, it’s ok. I’ll only let Lapras and Marill to start, ok? We’ll work up to Altaria.” Wilbur assured them.
(Y/N) was silent before nodding. “Ok…can you sing one of your songs?”
He kept his soft smile for his sibling as he took out two Pokeballs from his bag. “Of course, I can, you ready?”
They nodded once more and he released Lapras in the lake and Marill next to the water’s edge. (Y/N) moved back slightly as Marill gave a delighted motion to see the other human again.
“Alright, you two,” Wilbur said putting a hand on top of Marill’s head. “We’re going to stay calm and sing for (Y/N).”
Both of the Pokémon let out a noise of agreement before Wilbur started to play. (Y/N) watched nervously as the trio in front of them. Wilbur was singing the actual words as he strummed as his Pokémon managed to harmonize with him, making a beautiful sound. They were starting on the third song when (Y/N) finally started to sing with them. Wilbur grinned brightly as he continued, Marill giving an elated noise as Lapras gave an encouraging one.
After the group finished the fourth song, they took a moment to break and Wilbur just strummed mindlessly when Marill wandered over to (Y/N). They scooted back slightly as Wilbur paused to put his instrument down.
“It’s ok. Marill would never hurt you. She just wants to sit in your lap, just like she used to.”
(Y/N) hesitated but sat still, shaking as Marill sat in their lap. They looked up at Wilbur to see him smiling as he scooted next to them to put a hand on their shoulder.
“See? You’re alright. It’s just Marill.”
(Y/N) stared down at the Pokémon in their lap before shakily putting a hand on her head. Marill gave an excited noise, startling (Y/N), but Wilbur hugged them around the shoulder to calm them.
“It’s ok,” Wilbur assured them.
They sat with their hand on Marill’s head for a few minutes before finally smiling lightly as they finally ran their hand along her head.
“There you go. I’m very proud of you.” Wilbur grinned.
“Thanks, Wilbur.” They smiled up at him.
It was a week later when Altaria was able to once more join their group.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tommy
“How do you plan on helping (Y/N)?” Tubbo asked and Tommy groaned loudly.
“I don’t know big man! Phil, Techno, and Wilbur all tried to help them out but they still can’t even get close to their own Pokémon!” Tommy threw up his arms.
It had been a week when Tommy and (Y/N) had snuck into a safari area they weren’t supposed to be in. As such, the Pokémon in the area had been startled by their presence and both had to be helped by the adults. Tommy had been fine, he didn’t mind the change in their adventure, but (Y/N) being a bit younger than him had been freaked out by the experience and was terrified at the moment to be around Pokémon, even their own Eevee, Electrike, and Riolu.
So, not only was Tommy in trouble for having the pair sneak into a place they were supposed to be but for also making (Y/N) freak out like they were.
“What can I do?” Tommy asked his friend.
Tubbo hummed. “Well, what did they like to do with their Pokémon before?”
“We’d have mock battles and they liked to go on walks and play with them,” Tommy told him.
“Well then do that! Have a mock battle with them. I’m sure they can’t resist, you both want to be trainers, right?”
“Well, yeah, we’re going to be the best champions!”
“Then they won’t be able to say no.”
Tommy nodded after a moment, grinning. “Yeah! Thanks, Tubbo! I got to go do that now!”
Tommy ran back home to gather (Y/N)’s Pokémon and his own in the backyard. Once he had them all, he knocked on (Y/N)’s door. They opened, raising an eyebrow.
“What’s up Tommy?” They asked.
“I challenge you to battle!” Tommy declared.
(Y/N) frowned, shuffling nervously. “I…Don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“Come on! We’re going to be Pokémon Champions, right?” Tommy grinned.
“I don’t know if I want to anymore.” (Y/N) muttered.
“Oh, come off it.” Tommy huffed before grabbing their hand.
“Tommy.” (Y/N) protested but Tommy dragged them to the backyard.
“No, come on. We’ve both wanted to be trainers since before we could even have Pokémon. You have been training yours and learning to be a trainer and now you want to quit? I won’t let it happen.” Tommy told them before going into the backyard. “So, let’s battle.”
(Y/N) shook as they saw the six Pokémon waiting and having their own conversations it seemed. There were (Y/N)’s own three and Tommy’s Charmander, Torchic, and Cyndaquil.
“T-Tommy, I can’t!” (Y/N) tried to leave.
“You can. Look, you and I are better than any other trainer. And you’re not giving it up.” Tommy pulled them forward and made them stand away but behind their Pokémon before he stood behind his own. “Now, you make the first move!”
Tommy didn’t want (Y/N) to throw away everything the pair of them had learned. They had both been excited about becoming trainers and had mock battles where their Pokémon didn’t seriously hurt each other and they even used all of their Pokémon at once. They both thought it’d make them better trainers as they would be able to focus much better on a one-on-one battle and they’d know how to make split-second calls faster. The pair of them worked so hard! And Tommy didn’t want to be the reason (Y/N) quit.
This had to work.
(Y/N)’s Pokémon were very happy to see them. Their Eevee and Electrike wagged their tails as their Riolu waved at them. (Y/N) gripped their hands nervously. They were so close to Pokémon and they were scared…but Tommy was right, they did want to be a trainer…even if they thought quitting was best.
“Come on (Y/N)!” Tommy cheered from his side.
They looked over at their brother and Tommy was grinning. They thought before taking a deep breath. They could do this…
“…Electrike! Thunderwave on Charmander!” They called out, Electrike letting out an excited call before doing as told, the rest of the Pokémon eager for the mock battle.
Tommy grinned brightly. “Cyndaquil! Smoke Screen!”
“Riolu, foresight!”
The pair played out their battle, both smiling and enjoying time with their Pokémon after. Tommy was extremely relieved as (Y/N) sat happily petting their Eevee. He’d be careful next time.
Shuffling Save Files Between Pokemon Red/Blue and Yellow
Here’s a fun experiment: what happens if you load a Red/Blue save file into Pokemon Yellow?
(Note: these experiments were performed with VBA 1.7.2. This is not a perfect emulator for Gameboy games, so keep in mind some behavior may differ on real hardware.)
Red/Blue In Yellow
I took a Blue save file from Cinnabar Island. In fact, this save file was one I used for my Glitch Pokemon playthrough of the game. Then I simply renamed the file into a Yellow save and opened up Yellow.
Tumblr media
The map loads into a sort of Glitch City-esque scramble. When I tried to walk, my steps were very laggy but still worked. Eventually with enough walking, the lag went away and I walked like normal. Flying away from this ‘glitch city’ will refresh the map and make everything look normal again.
Checking on the pokemon in my party and PC, I find that I have pokemon perfectly transferred over. The glitch pokes are all of the Yellow counterparts. For example, here’s Wobbles (E9). In Red/Blue, E9 is “c”, a Bug type, and in Yelllow, E9 is “4HI?”, a Nidorino hybird.
Tumblr media
(There are differences in stats and levels due to the species differences)
Is that it, then? Can you transfer a Red/Blue save into Yellow without any other issues besides a temporarily scrambled map?
Tumblr media
Well, not quite. It seems some of the event flags get messed up. For instance, here the Old Man is in a state where he has both had his coffee and has not had his coffee, simultaneously. I like to call this the ‘Coffee Paradox.’ If you enter Viridian City and try to pass, the Old Man will stop you, despite his double lounging around up there looking just fine.
This can be fixed-- just fly to Pewter, walk through the forest and talk to the cranky man from the other direction.
Tumblr media
He’ll walk away and you’re all free now.
However, this isn’t the only Coffee Paradox that occurs. In the Blue save file I was using, I had all the badges except the Earth Badge. In Yellow, the man is no longer blocking the Viridian Gym’s door and announces the gym leader has returned. Yet, when you go inside his gym . . .
Tumblr media
He’s not in there! You can fight all the other trainers but Giovani is nowhere to be found. I visited Blaine’s gym to see if the flag re-set there, but nope, I couldn’t defeat him a second time. So, looks like further progress can’t be made unless you use cheats or exploit glitches.
Yellow in Red/Blue
What about the reverse, now? What if I tried to move a Yellow save file into Red or Blue?
The results are pretty varied and entertaining, as it turns out. A lot of the time, when attempting this, you will load in a very glitched map, unable to move or open your menu. Sometimes, random NPCs will be walking across your screen in a loop. The correct music plays for whatever location you had saved in Yellow. And, the game apparently may even try to load in the Pikachu that follows you in Yellow. As you can see here, the odd shapes below Red are in the location the Pikachu was last seen in Yellow:
Tumblr media
However, it’s pretty much broken. If you hit the ‘a’ key, the game usually just resets.
Other times, when trying to open a Yellow save, the game may have a jumbled screen and flash very rapidly.
However, OTHER times . . . you may load in a glitchy map but retain the ability to move/use your menu. (In fact, one time, the game seemed to load in a random sprite to act as my following “Pikachu” and it followed me as I walked!) You might be able to talk with NPCs who give you error messages and play music or make strange sounds. The doors to buildings might even work for you-- which is a huge bonus. You can enter the building and find things normal inside. After that, you seem free to play the game as normal. It can actually work-- you can bring your Yellow save into Red/Blue!
How exactly you do this consistently, I’m not sure. I tried a lot of different locations. When I saved the game inside a building, a single step away from the door, and then moved the Yellow file to Red/Blue, I often had success with that. That seems to make it much more likely that you keep the ability to move and eventually clear up the glitchiness.
Can you play the Yellow save file on Red/Blue normally after that, though? Well, maybe, but maybe not.
In one experiment, I began a new Yellow game. I played through until I got my starter and obtained Oak’s parcel and got the Pokedex. Then, in Viridian City, I saved my game inside the Pokecenter, one step from the door. I moved the file to Red. The Pokecenter looked very glitchy but I stepped out the door. I exited the building, but then my character re-entered the building automatically, and then the Old Man tutorial was triggered. The tutorial played out as normal and I was returned to the Pokecenter. I stepped out of the Pokecenter once more, the final bit of Old man dialogue popped up (You have to weaken the target pokemon first!) and then from there, things seemed normal.
. . . except, well, walking into Pallet Town crashed the game. I was able to progress if I ignored Pallet Town, though. I could catch pokemon, I beat Brock’s gym, etc. So, in conclusion, there may be residual glitches from the process.
Fooling around with these save files also offers some interesting possibilities with the opening of the game. In another experiment, I began a new Yellow game and saved after I took a single step into the tall grass. (In Yellow, you need to take two steps into the grass before Oak intervenes. In Red/Blue, it’s one.) Then I moved the save file to Red. Pallet Town was very glitched as usual, but I could walk, and I bumped around until I somehow eventually found the entrance to Oak’s lab.
In there, I could see what Oak’s lab looks like before you trigger the Oak ‘follow me’ event. You find Professor Oak right by the entrance of the lab. If you speak to him, he gives you a single question mark.
Tumblr media
I’m guessing this is a failsafe, similar to when you try to speak to the Pokemon in the tiny ‘zoo’ in the Safari Zone, which normally you can never reach unless you use walk-through-walls.
If you walk further into the room you will find there are in fact two Professor Oaks in the lab:
Tumblr media
Also, curiously, Bulbasaur’s ball is absent. I don’t know why. If you speak to Gary, he will say “Gramps is not around,” and if you speak to this Oak, he will ask you which pokemon you want. If you interact with the pokeballs, however, the game will just tell you “Those are Poke Balls, they contain Pokemon!”
It seems like a softlock, but if you go out and try to leave Pallet Town, the Oak follow-me event will trigger. Then you re-enter the lab and this time, you can accept a pokemon. As long as it’s Charmander or Squirtle. We’re fresh out of Bulbasaurs.
Tumblr media
If you take Squirtle, Blue will take an invisible Bulbasaur, though. And interestingly, if you choose Charmander, Blue will pick up Squirtle and Oak will be left with an empy table. It’s just kind of neat to see!
Anyway, those are my experiments for now. Next I might fool around with swapping save files between different language versions of the game, or test this out on a more accurate emulator.
If anyone needs me I'll be busy flipping out over all the pokemon news today like holy shit I just got the email from nintendo
I know we've joked/begged for a new pokemon snap for years. NEVER would I have believed we'd actually get it AHHHHHH
I never had an n64 and didn't understand the wii online shop back when it existed so I missed out on getting classics there. So this will be my first time experiencing it instead of just watching lps lmao I'm way more hype than I should be for Baby's First Safari Game (tm)
And the free cafe game is going to be SO up my alley good lord. Y'all don't want to know how much time I poured into pokemon shuffle across multiple devices. Match games are my weakness c':
If you haven't logged into Pokemon Shuffle recently, we have gifts: a Tyranitar, 30 hearts, and 10000 coins. You can only hold 99 hearts at a time. If you tend to hold the maximum or pretty much the maximum number of hearts, there's a Kyurem escalation battle to help relieve you of enough of them; so, you can collect the hearts gift. If you don't feel like an escalation battle, there's also a bug type Safari. You have until 8/22/17 to collect your gifts before they expire.
I just had a super rare encounter in the safari in Pokemon Shuffle, 5%ish chance.
Beat the puzzle, time to catch it. Ended up triggering a rare 10-20% Super Catch Power rate of 96% too.
96% chance to succesfully obtain this rare pokemon....
and I fucking failed it. It broke out of the ball. I hit the 4% chance to fail.
The Art of Adoption (1/5)
Title: The Art of Adoption Summary: “Local lady adopts world’s strongest Pokemon, thought it was the weirdest cat she had ever seen.” In which cats adopt you as much as you adopt them. Character(s): Mewtwo Word Count: 2837 words Also located on ao3!
On a sunny Saturday morning right on the cusp of spring, you open your front door to pick up the newspaper and your delivery of MooMoo Milk, and end up having a stare-down with the strangest cat you have ever seen.
Calling it a stare-down is a bit of a stretch, actually. For one, it’s not even on your small sliver of patio, which is a humble step and a half down from your door. The weird cat is huddled in the hedges just off to the side of your tiny pocket of a yard. It’s so large that it’s poorly hidden, and its coat is such a color that it is a horrendous camouflage amongst the evergreens and tender new growth. It sits stiffly in the shrubbery and blinks large eyes at you, and you stand just inside your door in your pajamas, staring blankly back at it.
“Oh,” you say, and shuffle back inside.
The first dish you get your hands on is the one with the thick leaf-printed strip around the edge, the only one that hadn’t tragically broken in transit when your aunt had moved house and asked if you wanted any of her extensive dishware. It is clean, thankfully, and you grapple with the art of balancing half in and half out of your doorway, dish in your lap as you pick up one of the glass bottles. You must be a right sight, hair a mess in your paw-print jammies, vigorously shaking a bottle before fighting to peel off the cap so that you can carefully pour out a measure into the bowl. The strange cat watches you warily as you inch down the one-and-a-half step and then stretch out as far as you can dare without tripping flat onto your face to place the dish on the outer edge of the paved stone.
You give it a half smile for reassurance before you take your opened bottle and the rest of the milk delivery and head back indoors.
The next time you shuffle past the door, you notice that the dish is empty. The weird cat is back in the hedges, but now seems to be alternating a very forlorn look between your door and the empty dish. It’s… well, it’s oddly adorable, which probably falls in line with what you’d expect from the weirdest cat you’d ever seen in your bushes. You pop back out to pour the remainder of the opened bottle into the dish and then continue on to brush your teeth.
You make it a goal to scoot past your door between every other morning task, and that’s how you end up pouring three whole bottles worth of frothy MooMoo Milk into this dish for your visitor. You suppose that that’s as good a sign as any to turn your weekly order into a twice-weekly one, and shake the latest empty bottle good-naturedly at where you can see the weird cat’s equally weird tail poking out. The tip twitches and the branches rustle while it blinks at you. It must be a cat thing, this blinking.
When you finally remember the paper that you never picked up, the dish is licked clean once again, and your guest is nowhere to be seen.
🐾
It’s really easy to call the delivery company and ask for an additional delivery to be made to your door on Wednesday mornings. You only hope that the weird cat doesn’t consistently drink 3 bottles a day, because then there won’t be enough milk for you by then. But that’ll be a problem that you’ll deal with on Tuesday. You’re not even sure if the weird cat will show up again, anyway. This might just be a one-time thing.
Maybe you were too hasty with the additional order.
(You don’t cancel it. Whether out of pride or hope, you can't say.)
You run a load of laundry because it’s the weekend. You give the house the well-deserved cleaning it didn’t get during the week. Then you take the blessedly short walk to Fuchsia’s Safari Park, where you pick up a pamphlet advertising the local flora and fauna and meander down the trails. Nothing in the “regular visitors” section jumps out at you for being your morning visitor, so you stop to talk to the park warden who tells you that sometimes they get exotic Pokémon either from migrations or because some Trainer or another releases them here. The warden assures you that if it’s a new resident in the park you’re bound to see it again. It’s one of the perks of living right down the block.
You drop a generous amount of change into the donation box and amble along home, but not before buying a cup of feed for the Goldeen who congregate by the last bridge out of the park. As you toss them handfuls of the little pellets, you hope that nobody had abandoned the poor thing. True, it was quite large (for a cat), and the bits of it that you could see poking out of the hedge had been a bit weird (for a cat), but looking weird and being big are terrible reasons to turn anyone out into the cold.
You break the waffle cup into small pieces and toss them in, clapping appreciatively along with a small child and her mother when a Seaking does an impressive leap out of the water to snatch the biggest piece out of the air.
When your sister calls you that evening, you give her a stern talking to about properly caring for her Pokémon, and make her promise that she’ll pass the message along to your brother. This she does, looking entirely bewildered, and when that’s all done and taken care of you snuggle more comfortably into your couch cushions and prompt her to tell you about Kalos. She lights up like the lights of the Prism Tower in the postcard she sent you over New Years, and you coo dutifully over her brand new, perfectly healthy, and wonderfully happy Sylveon.
🐾
The weird cat doesn’t show up on Sunday. It also doesn’t show up on Monday as you’re rushing about your flat getting ready for work. You set out a dish of milk for it anyway, because you didn’t do it yesterday and you feel horrible about it, but then there’s no time so you’re jamming your feet into your heels and rushing off to head to the office. When you get back, the dish is clean, and you can only hope that it was the weird cat that had come by and not some neighborhood scoundrel of a Vulpix or someone else from the Safari Park.
Not that you’d mind, you amend later, when you’re making dinner and feeling inexorably guilty. You won’t discriminate. Everyone deserves a dish of cold creamy milk. You just really wanted this weird cat that you’ve only seen once in your entire life to have it more than you’d want the neighbor’s perfectly cared for Vulpix to. You’re making a creamy chicken and rice casserole, because it is easy and delicious and will produce enough leftovers to take care of your lunches for the rest of the week, and it’s when you’re crossing the living room to turn on the telly that you look out and spy the strange cat. It’s back in that same bush, awkwardly sticking out like the sore thumb it is, barely illuminated in the waning light.
You grin without even knowing why.
You put out another dish of milk, lingering on the slip of patio for a minute while you think. “There’s a casserole that’ll be out of the oven soon, if you want to stick around a bit. Would you like some of that?” It feels weird to be talking to a Pokémon like this. You’ve never done it before. You’ve never been this close to a Pokémon that wasn’t your parents’ perfectly lazy old Delcatty, and he was more living pillow than cat.
Like before, it blinks its large eyes quietly at you, and you take that as an agreement, even as you realize that if it doesn’t eat it, someone else will. It doesn’t stop you from feeling silly when you come out later with a steaming dish of chicken and rice and tell the conspicuously hiding cat to “be careful—it’s hot!” though.
🐾
You and the weird cat fall into a strange sort of pattern in the following few weeks. It shows up every other day in the early morning, sitting in that same bush, waiting patiently for you to put out a dish a milk. It makes a reappearance in the evenings, where you’ll put out another dish a milk accompanied by a dish of whatever you’ve made for dinner (it seems to be partial to your casseroles). On Saturdays it hangs out a bit longer and dutifully polishes off 3 bottles of milk before managing to vanish in the blink of an eye.
It’s a pretty comfortable routine, odd as it is.
You could get used to this.
🐾
By the time April rolls in, Fuchsia City is filled to bursting with cherry blossoms. It’s a beautiful sight, and one of the major reasons you moved out here from your equally beautiful hometown of Cerulean. Your parents come by to visit, and even your brother drops in as a surprise halfway through. You all call up your sister and listen to her whine about how she misses “these stupid flowers” while holding the display up to a particularly beautiful tree. Your mother cooks up a storm and uses all the dishes you own, which ends up working out because the strange cat never shows up for the entirety of your family’s visit.
It’s only been a little more than a month since you first saw it in the hedges, but you miss it already.
When you see it sitting back in its regular bush the day after you send your family off, you are relieved. “I missed you,” you tell it, and are surprised by how much you mean it. It tips its head at you, and even tolerates you lingering on the patio for a while before it gets antsy to eat and starts whapping its tail against the grass. You retreat, and give it space.
Now is finally the opportunity for you to really take the chance to look at your favorite weird cat. It’s still hideous against the hedge, with its dark lavender tail and white-lavender body. Just a faintest ruffle here and there betrays the fact that it has fur, close-cropped and super sleek. It looks like it would be velvety soft against your fingers.
You wonder if you’ll ever be able to touch it.
Its haunches are large and powerful, and look far too big for its body. Only its hind paws really look like cat’s paws; its front paws have three little circular toes. It can apparently lift up the dishes to lick happily at the food with relative ease with them. It’s clearly a very talented cat. Its ears look more like little horns, and there’s a strange tube-like structure protruding from the back of its skull and reconnecting down behind its shoulder-blades. Its eyes are big and bright, and intelligent enough for you to wonder if this cat is a Psychic type. It’s giving you some Espeon-like vibes.
Not for the first time, you wonder what kind of cat this is, exactly, before shrugging. The world is a large place. Your sister has a dog that’s literally covered in ribbons. Your brother’s horse is on fire. There’s probably some island out there where more of these strange cats are native.
You say goodnight through the glass and head to bed, and in the morning, there are two clean dishes on the patio and a new delivery of milk by your door.
There’s also a tiny bouquet of zinnias, looking suspiciously like they’ve been plucked from the garden of the neighbor down the way. They’re beautiful, though, and you can’t prove that they’re the neighbor’s zinnias, so you scoop them up and make a new home for them on your kitchen counter.
You think, maybe, just a little, your weird cat missed you too.
🐾
June marks the beginning of the rainy season, and you’ve set up an umbrella on the patio to attempt to shelter the dishes. By the second night it’s clear that this isn’t going to work in the long term, and so you lie in wait just inside your door for your cat to show up again.
It looks—understandably—very confused as it slinks into its bush and sees you framed in the glow of your kitchen lights.
“I don’t think the umbrella is a very feasible method to keep up through the entire rainy season,” you tell it. When its sodden ears droop in disappointment you feel bad and have to swallow hard in order to plow on. “So why don’t you come inside? We’ve been seeing each other for several months now and I’d like to think we’re pretty close. It’s warm and dry in here. I’ve got comfy cushions and fluffy towels.” You pat the tiled floor next to your leg gently in invitation. “And I promise I don’t snore.”
It eyes you warily, and it reminds you so much of when you first met it that your heart sinks. Maybe it’s harder to befriend a Pokémon than you thought. Your siblings had always made it look easy, so you had been presumptuous and presumed and—
You perk up hopefully as the weird cat takes one tentative step forward, then another. It’s pretty impressive how it manages to effortlessly keep itself so low to ground with its clearly longer hind legs. You nod and tap your fingers encouragingly on the floor as it slinks across grass, over the cobbles, and hesitantly up the one and a half steps.
“You made it!” you say, and immediately get a face-full of water as it shakes itself off right there in the middle of the doorway. Its short fur spikes every which way, and you laugh as you brush your hair from your face. “That deserves a reward; yes it does!” and then you can tell that it’s spied its usual dishes. The milk is cold as always, and steam still curls gently off the sticky grains of rice in the creamy chicken and rice casserole. It had only felt appropriate to remake the first dinner for today.
The weird cat gives you one last look before committing to entering the house, making a beeline for the dishes, and only then do you reach up to shut the door. He’s tracking water all over your kitchen tiles, but you only get whacked once in the face when you reach out to towel him dry. “It’s just me,” you soothe as you tuck him into a warm towel, and he even looks a little contrite as your cheek starts to redden from the force of the hit. You tell him that you’ll get some ice for it and it’ll be right as rain in a day or two, but he still droops a little, and it’s actually really sweet.
You think you might love this weird cat, and isn’t that something? Because you had never loved any Pokémon enough to want to raise one before, yet you had easily devoted several long months to growing attached to one whose species you still don’t know. Maybe you’ll never know. It doesn’t bother you as much as it probably should.
“I’m glad you came,” you tell him, and something that sounds suspiciously like a rusty purr rumbles out of his throat. You wonder if everyone’s first meaningful encounter with Pokémon is like this. You’re warm and dry on your kitchen floor, eating casserole out of mismatched dishes, and your new weird cat sounds like a low-key motorboat figuring out its engines.
It feels amazing. And it only gets better when he lets you lay a tentative hand on his side and give him a little scratch, because his fur is every bit as soft and velveteen as it looks.
“I’m glad you came,” you say again, because you mean it, and your cat—your cat—your new cat who’s large and looks weird and who’ll probably never really figure out this purring business—looks you right in the eyes and rumbles that much harder.
🐾
When you finally introduce yourself to him, he blinks at you like he’s known for a while. Maybe he has. He’s your cat after all. He’s more or less been your cat since he started frequenting your garden way back in February.
And maybe you’re being a bit arrogant, but you like to think that over these few months he’s chosen you just as much as you’ve chosen him. After all he’s your cat, and the thing with cats is that you don’t adopt them so much as they adopt you.
Thanks to never changing the clock on my 2ds after I logged in for the last time on ds Shuffle before shutting down. I'm still getting event rotations without CFW!
Week 5 is back, and while I already got shiny karp and gyarados from the Safari on my main shuffle (moblie), ds shuffle has not caught them yet!
August 23rd at 9:34 am. EST today, I managed to catch shiny gyarados! I still need to catch shiny karp from ds Safari.
This is my 6th shiny on ds shuffle, and karp will be the 7th once I catch it! So stay tuned.
Note: Sadly, my 2ds dropped, which broke off the L button and broke the volume switch...
So I have no sound on my ds anymore... If I transfer to a new system, my shuffle events will lock.. so I'm stuck with no sound... apologies for those who enjoy the ds sounds.
The 3rd shiny of pokemon shuffle comes from the event section of the game once again!!
This time pokemon safari is where this one comes from as both this mon and shiny magikarp is available.
So stay tuned for when I catch hopefully catch shiny magikarp.
Magikarp cd was a thing so it's not my first ever shiny of gyarados or magikarp once I catch it. I also got shiny magikarp on arceus.
You have 6 days left to catch them both so good luck!
Pokemon Shuffle Updates (14th November 2017)
Necrozma Appears. Using one Mega Start or Attack Power ↑ might also give you a better shot at beating and catching this tough Pokémon! Event ends 28th November 2017
Take on Escalation Battles! Give the event a try as you train your Rayquaza to its strongest level and Skill Level! Level: You can level up your Pokémon by using these rewards: Exp. Booster M, Exp. Booster L, or Level Up. If you want to raise the level of a Pokémon to 11 or higher, try using a Raise Max Level! Skill Level: If you clear level 1, you will be able to change Rayquaza's skill to Shot Out using the Skill Swapper reward! Rayquaza's Shot Out is strategically useful in this stage. Rayquaza Skill Boosters drop from level 1 and on, so if you clear the stages right to the end, its Skill Level should reach its MAX. If you have not caught Rayquaza, Rayquaza Skill Boosters will not drop. Event ends 29th November 2017.
Daily Pokémon Are Here! The Pokemon are Tyrogue (Tuesday), Castform (Wednesday), Mantyke (Thursday), Solrock (Friday) and Lunatone (Monday).  After catching it, if you retry the stage, it may occasionally drop a Skill Booster for that Pokémon! Note: Cannot be played between 06:00 (UTC) on Saturdays and 06:00 (UTC) on Mondays. Event ends 21st November 2017.
Rowlet Appears. Take on Rowlet here! Using one Attack Power ↑ might give you a better shot at beating and catching this Pokémon! After catching it, if you retry the stage, it may occasionally drop one Rowlet Skill Booster! Event ends 21st November 2017.
Lunala Appears. Using one Attack Power ↑ might also give you a better shot at beating and catching this Pokémon! After catching it, if you retry the stage, it may occasionally drop one Lunala Skill Booster! Event ends 28th November 2017.
Head Back into the Safari! In this safari, you have the chance to battle and catch Electrike, Darumaka, Stantler, Darmanitan, Manectric, Pikachu (Winking), and Raichu (Winking)! Though some are harder to meet than others! There is no Optimize in Pokémon Safari. Why not give some Ground-type Pokémon a try? After catching it, if you retry the stage, it may occasionally drop one Exp. Booster S, M, or L! Event ends 28th November 2017.
Rayquaza Reward! We're giving players the Legendary Pokémon Rayquaza, in your Gifts now! Note that this only applies to players who have yet to receive this Pokémon. We hope you continue to enjoy Pokémon Shuffle Mobile! Rayquaza can be found right now in your Gifts. Event ends 5th December 2017.
