With so many elections coming up worldwide it's probably a good time to remind everyone that tumblr once got infested with agents trying to convince everyone not to vote, or not to vote left because the candidates weren't morally pure enough.
Also a reminder that they were better at tumblr than most of us, comrade interloper was great at memeing. Like, the talent!
Anyway don't fall for it. There is no morally pure option.

Very serious post:
The bff and I were thinking of alternate names for our country (the USA) but are currently favoring "Under-Canada."
We are in no way biased by growing up on the international border, where basically anything you could get on the US side you could also get on the Canadian side, but it would be better and less expensive and more fun to get to.

the amount of young voters now that say they're not voting for Joe is making me scared for the next election like y'all don't realize the other candidates are much MUCH worse than him.
Exactly, like is he flawless? No. But I've seen a LOT of social media posts blaming him or criticizing him for things that are literally not under his control, and he is quite literally the furthest left president the US has ever had. AND what I would think should be obvious is yes, the other candidates are fucking NIGHTMARES. I honestly wonder how many of these posts might be propaganda too, because deadass it's the same shit that got Trump elected, people bought into these absurd false equivocations and let the perfect be the enemy of the good, and it literally got MILLIONS of people KILLED. Clearly I don't think he should be immune from criticism, but FFS like did we SERIOUSLY not learn our lesson with Trump and Hillary?! Covid is still decimating our country, Roe vs. Wade was overturned, and the Supreme Court will be stacked in favor of extreme conservatism for most of our lifetimes because some people didn't think that Hillary Clinton was appealing enough. The notion that not even FOUR YEARS LATER some people are already jumping on that idiotic bandwagon again is legitimately frightening.

this is my 68-year-old former republican, former pro-life, deep-south-resident father. he left the party when it became the party of trump in 2015, and has since grown from a centrist-conservative never-trumper to being more and more liberal and thoughtful. this is an argument i have made in the past, which he previously bluntly disagreed with, but clearly has since thought more about it, and now here we are.
people are capable of changing for the better, even at his age. i do grant that, as i said, he never drank the trump kool-aid and was so disgusted by the man from the start that he changed his party affiliation, but he proudly supported bush and mccain and romney at their times. not everyone is beyond the point of listening and changing their minds, not even when they're approaching their seventies.
it is not okay to dismiss or come down on people for past viewpoints and arguments if they have since reconsidered them and changed their minds. you have to let people grow. and of course you can't always have the spoons for political debates and considering all sides and where the other party is coming from, and it's easy to lose your temper and assume that the other party is acting in malice, but -- genuinely, honestly, spoken by someone from the bible belt -- most of the time they aren't. yes, some people are beyond listening and would take the work of years to chip away at the cult conditioning, but you have to be able to tell the difference between those people and the ones who simply have not been exposed to this perspective.
people can grow at any age. it's part of being human.

Only Daughters:
How does Naerys feels about the incest?
Would she agree with Viserys and Alicent that Aemon should marry one of his aunts to combine the lines?
She’s of the mind that it should be avoided when possible like brother-sister or aunt-nephew or uncle-niece, but cousins are acceptable because politics and Westeros.
Aemon marrying either Aerea or Aelora is…interesting but he doesn’t actually need to given that they’re genuinely no threat unless their husband wants to upend years of precedent for the second and third daughter respectively over the first with a male heir.
Aemon marrying into the Stormlands (or Westerlands) is a politically sound move and not one easily discarded so long as Borros and Jason both have no sons.

consider performing small acts of kindness as a defiance of current events. at work yesterday a lady was trying to buy like $20 worth of groceries and all her cards kept getting declined and she was about to give up and put everything back when i decided, you know what? i might not be able to do anything tangible about the supreme court or the terrifying direction my country is going in, but i can do something about this. i can pay for a lady’s groceries. if performing small acts of kindness in the face of an uncaring world is all i can do, at least i can do that.

https://www.tumblr.com/qqueenofhades/743255237060689920/the-thing-that-confuses-me-about-the-dont-vote
The “don’t vote” left’s point is basically that, if Biden gets a second term, it’ll basically signal that “They’ll vote for us as long as we’re not Republicans, why don’t we do some REAL fucked up shit, if we can get away with it?” It takes the power out of the people’s hands and places it firmly in the party’s.
I can’t completely disagree with that, my caveat is that there’s no real alternative system or party in place, because top-down change is ineffective; a third party president has to contend with a two party congress.
Except no. This whole "Biden just wants to do as much fucked up shit as possible while not being a Republican, and if you give him a second term he'll do more fucked up shit deliberately to spite you" mindset is only possible as an interpretation if you a) deliberately and comprehensively ignore everything he has done to date, and b) you approach the situation with the maximum bad faith possible. Not to mention, the ultimate outcome of this Big Important Teaching Biden A Lesson is that Trump gets back into power and makes everything orders of magnitude worse, because he does in fact want to deliberately do evil shit to everyone and says so at every opportunity. There is not some magical happy alternative that springs into existence by not voting. If you choose this as a year to Teach Biden A Lesson, you are enabling Trump. Trump will be much, much worse. If you don't care about that, I still do not care what your Great Ideology is. You are not helping anyone and you are directly and irreversibly hurting everyone.
I made a post a few days ago wherein I mentioned that I want to assess Biden fairly, taking into account both strengths and weaknesses, but the rampant bad-faith, lying, misreading, misrepresentation, and open sabotage of him (especially by the online left; the GOP sometimes only wishes they were as good at turning Biden's voter pool against him) makes it really difficult to do that. My frustration with those people makes me just want to go "BIDEN IS GREAT THE END." I know he is a flawed old man (though by literally every account of a career spent in public service, he really does care about making the world a better place and any remotely good faith reading of his accomplishments thus far can see that). It is also very likely that he goes MORE left in a second term because he won't have to face the electorate again, he has always gone more left when pushed before, and he's not actually the scheming genocidal mastermind that leftist social media paints him as. Shocking, I know.
I know there are things in the world we don't like and don't want and want to stop, and therefore we blame our own president for not making it stop. But I have zero, no, none, absolutely none whatsoever sympathy for this pseudo-populist "WE NEED TO TEACH BIDEN A LESSON BY ELECTING TRUMP AGAIN, I AM VERY MORAL MUCH ACTIVIST" mindset. There's this funny thing about America wherein it is still (for now) a democracy. If Biden wins a second term, he can't run again. I would take literally anything these people said more seriously if they focused on developing their dream progressive successor for 2028 (and also figured out how to get that person elected and in a place to make real change) rather than cynically sabotaging Biden in the most consequential election year, again, of our lifetimes. If you don't like him now, find a way to make his successor a better option. Throwing a toddler tantrum and handing the country back to a senile, deranged, fascist, revenge-riddled, theocratic Trump HELPS. NOBODY. I still don't know how many times I'm going to have to say that, but yeah.

Britain shows up on the EU's doorstep in the rain, holding flowers they've clearly been clenching too tightly.
From their face it's clear they've been hurting, but it was all self inflicted, and they are so sorry, do you take Britain back?

All these far right parties winning elections across the world... we're fucked
Yeah it's actually really scary, I mean just as an American it's very frightening to realize HOW much the scales are stacked against anyone remotely left or even center-leaning really. Like, in order to win any political control outside of our immediate sphere of influence, we have to win an OVERWHELMING amount of votes, and that's JUST to stop the slide and ensure that conservatives can't pull another supreme court takeover and wild out with like, abortion and Muslim bans and shit. I'm glad that it's actually motivating people to vote but it's just scary that if we drop the ball once, we're fucked, and the entire world feels like it's sliding into the hands of right-wing extremists. Fascists are absolutely dog shit at actually using power, but they're scarily great at taking power.
