About the catra braincell thing

Catra is definitely not the smarts braincell of the trio, if anything Bow is. He is B for Braincell.

Dont get me wrong i love Adora and Glimmer but more Bow appreciation from the fandom when

even bow, i'm not so sure. he was supposed to be the smart guy, and he is certainly creative but he doesn't get enough spotlight to prove that he's the brain of the group. he is usually pushed to the back, often serving as an emotional support while adora and glimmer get their respective arcs. bow was honestly such an underused character, especially considering he's supposed to be one of the protagonists.

I will bore you all writing about Doctor Finlay, but bear with me.

One of the most unrealistic aspects of the Doctor Finlay-Nurse Meitland mess is the idea that they got engaged right before or as the war begun, and then for some reason had not seen each other ever since. Brenda has never left Tannachbrae during that time; which would have been an easier fix, had she joined up as an army nurse herself and been sent to units far from John's. I guess it couldn't be because the maximum drama of her new American fiancé living in town couldn't possibly be cut off. The western front didn't reopen till 44'.

The only possible mitigation, then, would be for Finlay to have been on the desert front, and lo and behold, upon rewatching 1x02, he tells a kid he was in the desert, then Sicily, then Italy, and finally Germany. But even on this generous scenario of the writers it doesn't make sense. If Finlay had had 6 years of ininterrupted service without leave home, chances are he'd have priority to have leave home as soon as the war ended, specially because I don't think personnel was being roaded or flown directly from Italy to Germany for obvious reasons of logistic convenience. So he would have been home on leave after may 45, and so the plot as presented is absurd.

But then it is all doubly absurd because the most reasonable and likely course of action would be for him to hear about it through letters. A dear John letter, or even someone from town condoling with him by assuming that the public status of Brenda's new engagement meant that Finlay had been informed too. What is the audience supposed to assume about their correspondence? Was he writing her tender, loving letters and receiving no response? Was he receiving tepid, general letters from her and being unconsciously or deliberately dense?

It makes no sense. Compels me though.

as for our beloved suburban dads, i can't say too much without spoiling the last quarter or so of the fic--though i guess i have been pretty transparent about maxie actually succeeding in catching groudon. that's a thing that happens. gonna be mum about the circumstances and implications and fallout of that, though. i'm sure it turns out fine.

as for the wip itself, it's the first chapter of eye of the storm. the title refers to the circumstances that drive may to leave home in the first place--things get to be too much for her.

for a little context about my may, she's 22 at the start of the fic, and had moved out of her parents' house at 18, back when they still lived in johto. she opted to move back in with them temporarily when they moved to hoenn (instead of staying in johto by herself), and it's a choice she starts regretting very quickly. snippet under the cut. i feel like i should add a trigger warning for this as well--it's a bad situation if you've ever been in it before but pretty vague if you don't know what you're looking at. tw for implied emotional abuse, i suppose.

This was bad.

May sat on the carpeted top stair and gripped her empty mug so tightly her knuckles turned white. A faint “godsdammit” floated around the corner that led into the living room and up to her ears. Whatever her mother was fussing with down there had her, to be incredibly mild, extremely pissed off.

This was bad, but it had probably been worse at some point before. Not that May could put a finger on when, exactly; the last four years of solitude had papered over the memory of her mother’s moods with a series of perfectly pleasant lunches and borderline enjoyable outings to the movies. The tone of voice May was catching now, in snippets from the ground floor, was a knife widening the old wound of the six years before that, during their time in Olivine, after their last big move. The first time this had happened, May had been thirteen and stupidly hopeful.

She didn’t have age as an excuse this time.

Did she really need another cup of coffee? She could turn around, tail between her legs, and head back to her room. This one locked, though that might cause her more problems in the long run. She’d already endured the years of formless suspicion about why she kept her door closed all the time, and even that particularly bad summer where the door had been removed entirely. She didn’t need, didn’t want a repeat of that. Something told her the offense her mother would suffer over a locked door would be far greater than over a closed one. Teenagers were just like that, after all. From an adult it would be an insult.

Moving back in had been a massive fucking mistake.

That scene when Glam has his breakdown (like right before he listens to the record) Kills me. I wanna hug him so bad.

Also, I want to point out that Glam's father might be an alcoholic. I feel like that's why the guy never wanted to touch a single drop of the stuff. When Glam got hit so hard by the rule that he was bleeding, before he met up with Ches, Gustav was clearly drunk. Even that little stumble there? Alcoholic. I'm telling you.

Another thing. When Glam first sees Ches's mother, you can see on his face how shocked he is that there are people that live the way that Ches was living. He was shocked that a mother, someone who's supposed to be taking care of her son, was passed out drunk on their couch with a burnt out cigarette.

I'd also like to point out how much I love the first time Glam and Ches play together. It's so deep. Like, that's when Glam first felt free from the expectations of his father. He let all that stress go, and seeing his face as he progresses with Ches through that new lifestyle is amazing. He's so happy and completely disregards the fact that he still needs to deal with his issues at home. Like it's so fucken cute, I can't.

The amount of times Seth said “Shut up, Richard,” in just one episode is hilarious. And yeah, Richie done be crazy. But that doesn’t mean what he sees isn’t potentially real. Also, was the lady at the beginning already a vampire or whatever or was she just a regular human before she was thrown in the pit with the snakes?
