The argument started with something stupid, like most of your arguments did. The only difference is that this time his emotions took the best of him and in the heat of the moment he yelled at you.

It wasn’t that you were afraid of him, but Rafe had never raised his voice to you, and in the heat of the moment you caught yourself flinching away from him. Not out of fear, but because you were taken by surprise by his sudden change of tone.

But your reaction alone was enough to make him feel like the worst person in the world. Now, he obviously wasn’t a saint, and you knew it, but he would never hurt you. Ever.

Ten minutes have passed, and you were sitting on the couch with your face in your hands. Taking a deep breath, he made his way to you and crouched in front of you.

“Baby, can we talk,” he whispered, touching your arm gently, “Please?”

“I don’t want to talk about it.” You say and raise your head to look at him. His gaze faltered and worry took over his eyes. Shit, he thought to himself. “But you can hold me if you want.” You speak, noticing him smirk a bit.

“Of course, darling.” He said and sat on the couch, pulling your body to lie on his and pressing a kiss on your head, resting his chin on it after.

As much as he wanted to talk about it and apologize for what happened, he knew you needed to take your moment. You had always been more sensitive about things, having to take time to process how you felt about them. He understood that, and he would stay there with you until you decided it was time to talk about it.

But for now, just the fact that you wanted to be close to him already made him feel ten percent better about it. For now, it was more than enough for him to just hold you close.

you and pope decided to spend the warm sunny day sitting by the beach to get some fresh air while he studies, you honestly wanted to keep him company and needed to get him to spend some time outside. 

seated on a towel you watch as the light hits the side of his face as he continues to write in his notebook. 

"wanna go in the water?" you ask softly, poking his arm.

"i'm just gonna finish this first, you can go in if you want, i'll watch you from here" he smiles but doesn't look up from writing.

"nooo, i'll just stay here." you huff and turn to look in your tote bag to see if you can find anything to entertain yourself with. 

you dig around and find some temporary glitter tattoos that you had bought earlier that week. 

you smile to yourself and look back over at pope who is still busying himself with his work, you take off your shirt leaving you in your bikini top. 

taking the water bottle that was lying on the towel you soak a corner of your shirt and scooch closer to pope.

all of a sudden he feels something stick on his arm and your little fingers pressing it in place.

"what are you doing?" he asks like he's about to scold a child, his head turns over to look at his arm.

"giving you a tattoo!" you press the wet shirt onto the little paper to get the tattoo to stick.

"where'd you even get that?" he continues to inspect what you are doing

"it was in my bag... it's going to look so cute! you'll see." you peel off the paper to reveal the little hibiscus flower on his arm, glittering in the sunlight. 

"yeah it is nice..." he grins, flexing his arm a little bit which makes you giggle.

"i have more! you wanna pick another? look," you show him the little pile of tattoos in your hands, he looks at your hand and points to the blue shiny dolphin one. "this one..."

"ohkay! where should i put it?" you roll up his sleeve and point to the bottom of his shoulder. "sure!" he nods and watches you concentrate on sticking it on.  

"there! it's sooo cute!" you admire your work by squeezing his arm a bit. 

"want me to put one on you?" he asks holding up another of the little tattoos.

"mhmm, so we can be matching!" you smile and bring your arm up so he can work on putting it on you. "this is very relaxing, we should do this more often..." he mumbles softly, the waves crashing in the background. 

"i agree" 

he peels back the wet paper to reveal your little glittery flower tattoo, you bring your arm up towards the sun so it shines. 

"wowww, it's so shiny" you twist your arm around to see how the light bounces off the sparkles. 

"now we are twins..." he brings his arm up next to yours making you both smile. 

"yeah! i feel like a mermaid..." you wiggle your hips a little making pope smile. 

"you are a mermaid, do want a book to read while i finish this?" he asks, handing one of the books he had in a little pile on the edge of the towel. 

"mmhm shure..." you lay on your stomach, placing the book down on the towel to read in the sun while pope continues his studies, little birds flying over and sounds of the water crashing in the distance.

OBX Season Three Thoughts

The parental figures sucked. The fact that Ward was my favorite parent in this season is legit disturbing. Big John was super manipulative towards John B, and he got so much screen time that they should have explained his partnership with Ward way more. I was happy when he died. Mike and Anna Carrera. MIKE AND ANNA CARRERA!!! Anna was not as bad as Mike, because it seemed like she was actually trying to do what she thought was best for Kiara. She totally lost me tho when she let the Kitty Hawk people take her away. And I highkey hate Mike Carrera so much. The nasty, bigoted, prejudiced, hateful little beast. He literally said the meanest things to JJ, comparing him to his abusive father and all that?!?! NOT COOL AT ALL.

Jiara is the best ship in OBX just *chefs kiss*. I wish they gave them more screen time tho. WE NEED MORE!! Cleo and Pope are also adorable, love the character arcs. I like Sarah and John B, but I think that the other ships have more compelling stories and therfore should have gotten more screentime. Also, I would like to see the Rafe/Sofia situation get more of a storyline, since Sofia really contributed towards him making a better decision regarding his dad and I think Rafe deserves another chance at happiness.

Petition to get the OBX writers to have an episode in Season 4 fill in the giant gap in the last episode of Season 3!! I have so many questions that need to be answered.

I hope Season 4 goes into the mental health of these characters, since I am sure most of them need therapy.

I’M READY (MAYBE).

my heart is so full. i am satisfied. i am overwhelmed with feels but in a good way. and i’m sucked right back into the boat show. i love remembering why i love these characters and their story and their relationships. i watch the show mostly for jj tbh, and boy was he carrying this season.

of course i had minor disappointments, that’s kind of a given. like most ppl i was not a fan of the big john x john b storyline. it was boring and frustrating to watch them. way too much screen time given to that which could’ve explored other things…i thought this season they’d really give us some answers to big questions (kie’s kook year? jj and sarah’s moms? how did the pogues even meet?) but alas. can’t have everything.

here’s some of what i DID get:

JIARA. do i have to elaborate on how fucking amazing they were? how they were the most precious and also badass duo ever? how their slow burn was perfectly executed? the way they were so damn protective of each other? kie helping jj understand that he’s loved and cared for? jj going absolutely ballistic whenever he thinks kie is in danger? the angst? the way he admits that he thinks he’s just a loser and she can do better than him? the way she understands that he’s sensitive and doesn’t let people close easily? the way pope gives his (semi) blessing? the way john b teases him? the absolute fucking heart eyes they carry the whole season? because they’re the two most endearing characters of all time? this season was about a treasure hunt and they were each others treasure and they fucking found it and i am so damn emo.

CAMBANK SIBLING ENGERY. i’ve been craving more jj x sarah interaction and i finally got it. the way sarah was searching for jj to stay with because both of them have no where else to go (as john b is off with his idiot father)? the way she calls him jayj like the others now? the way she was so freaking worried about him getting hurt? making topper turn the whole truck around to help jj?the way she angrily pushed and then hugged him so tight when they found him alive? john b and sarah sometimes feel like the parents of the group and sarah really stepped up when he was gone. she’s so much more than john b’s gf, she really made the group feel like the family jj needs.

JJ x JOHN B going on their little adventure together was one of my favourite things. i adore watching them together. the way jj was waiting for john b at the chateau? john b confiding in him because that’s his best friend in the world and they need each other? the heads on each others shoulders and “we’re gonna figure this out”? the typical funny crazy moronic stupidity from these two (pls someone gif them crawling under the table or jb catching jj eating from that guys fridge)? the badass fight scenes they have together? not to mention jj’s reaction when they had to leave john b on the island??? “we’re not splitting up again” “we’re not leaving him” kill me now? their little scuffle / wrestling that was really pathetic because they’d never seriously hurt each other? jj going to the ends of the world for him? yeah.

CLEO. she was everything. carlacia killed it. she was exactly what the group needed, especially pope. they pulled off their relationship so well. also her and jj being a badass duo and holding knives to peoples throats together? yeah that’s the energy i needed this season.

The pure SATISFACTION of watching kie deceive rafe and push his whiny ass into the water. ward getting killed. big john getting killed (sorry). it was all very satisfying to watch. as much as they made topper slightly likeable this season, it was also nice to watch him lose after his psycho ass burned down the chateau.

JJ MAYBANK. hello!?? did y’all see this man? because i have never felt this straight before. the outfits (red tank top hello????). the smirks. the body. the water scenes. the everything. this man could do absolutely anything to me. he could run me over with a truck and i would thank him. john b in ep10 also made my lady parts tingle. but jj truly did not give me a break. he could’ve just stood there for 10 hours it would still be great.

THE FOUND FAMILY. my babies. they love each other so much and this season did a great job showing it. i would’ve liked to see more, but what we did get was nice. all the poguelandia scenes. the way jj just wanted to stay there and provide for his family? the angst when they return and jj realises the others all have their own families to go to? the flashbacks to jj being close to john b and his dad? him play fighting with big john who is like his own second dad? jj ready to have dinner with the heywards (him and cleo’s adoptive parents basically)? i’m so emo.

overall i feel like this season was just a lot darker and more serious / mature than the ones before. where S2 was kind of an exciting mess of random, funny, weird craziness and stupid decisions, S3 felt way more grounded and realistic but at the same time a lot more sincere. i loved watching the new dynamics and see cleo complete the group. madison and rudy killed it. it was amazing and i cannot wait to rewatch it (and reblog all the amazing gifs and content).

The most unrealistic thing about OBX is that the parents nickname their children the whole damn time.

You're telling me, Pope’s parents aren't going full on 'John Paul' on him when he's in trouble? I don’t think so.

Luke yelling 'JJ' all the time instead of using whatever name the first j stands for? Especially when threatening him? Come on.

Ward not being like 'RAFAEL' when he is berating Rafe? When he's shouting at Rafe? When he's trying to talk some sense into Rafe? Yeah, no.

Funnily enough, the only thing that kind of makes sense is Big John calling John B 'John B' all the time because he this is what he probably decided to go with (instead of John Junior, Junior, Little John ...) but what's with calling him 'boy' throughout the whole season?

OBX 3 TIER LIST

i wanted to make a review but um... it took me like a week to finish the whole thing.. which should say enough.. and honestly i don't really feel like rewatching the majority of the episodes lol. i'll just give my reasons for the tiers instead.

this is probably my most unpopular one yet.

the only emotional journeys i connected with this season was topper, rafe and pope.

cleo could've been there if they actually focused more on her as a person rather than being thrown into a relationship and having that be the focus of her arc, same with kiara. still, i find cleo / pope duo way more watchable than jj / kiara. and she is a nice character.

i actually wished we'd seen kiara be kidnapped half of the season at singh's so that, a) the reunion actually feels more earned b) her and rafe's scenes were gold and probably the most interesting things for her character this season c) we could learn more about the "new, evil villain" and his motives. instead he felt out of place.

as for singh, he could cut it with the "you knows" ....

topper and kiara delivered on the comedy this season though, which is one reason they placed higher.

CAN'T FORGET BARRY

jj's whole "i don't want to be loved" thing felt half assed and he didn't crack me up the way he did s1-2... the humor felt kind of cartoonish (crabs 🫥). i still don't like how they dumb him down to an actual caricature, it was endearing and believable in s1 but it's just gotten worse each season for cheap slapstick. it's not funny.

i wanted more conflict between him and pope and their friendship

i didn't need jj / kiara to be honest... had no relevance to what was going on, and felt very dry. like they were trying to churn out something that just isn't there, and i didn't recognise the characters either.

rafe just elevates any scene he's in and any character he's with. i give props to drew 'cause even though the writing feels more serious for his character than the others, it probably wouldn't come across as good as it does without a good enough actor. luckily enough he's been spared from most of the corniness on this show.

the john b/sarah/topper thing is repetitive but i'm glad we got to see a story where topper isn't villainised (in the show, just by the pogues). he saved sarah's life, yet gets used and discarded. she keeps making the same mistakes, and the john b/big john stuff was just atrocious. he suddenly trusts the dad who abandoned him for years over his ride or die friends? the gf who sacrificed everything for him?? yeah ok dude.

the complete absence of rose but wheezie especially is unrealistic as hell. i don't understand why new, annoying characters are introduced (limbray.... singh... jb's dad) when they don't amount to anything in the end and there is no investment in them. we could've seen so many good family relationships and dynamics, how does the completely overlooked youngest sibling view everything? actually an episode from her POV would've been hilarious and also insanely interesting.

as much as i prefer ward over jb's dad and liked him as a villain... he didn't play a big enough part in this season to keep (he is also irredeemable). i think they could've killed him off in s2. and rafe could've dealt with the aftermath of that this season instead of s4.

the treasure thing felt contrived and way too much for one season. i don't really get the pacing, they don't need to find something new each season they can take a break once in a while and have like every other season be more obx / character focused. and the rest plot. that way when they do find something it feels much greater! what they did over the course of these three seasons could've easily been stretched to six seasons with better writing and giving the story room to breathe, develop a lot of other things etc... instead of making up "blackbeard" 💀

there's much more to say, and a lot of issues with the production and more nitpicky faults, but these are probably my biggest issues with the story. in the end it was a very disjointed season, probably my least favorite so far.

Your first time with Pope is more awkward than you'll ever admit, but it was a wholesome experience all the same. With yourself being a little more experienced it's down to you to make sure he's comfortable and you talk to him the whole time, reassuring him and holding him close, nails scratching over his back and shoulders, which makes him bite back a moan. The whole evening is just spent encouraging him to experiment and learn what he likes, what you like etc etc and it might not be the most sustained sex ever, but that's sure to change after that point.
