3 Best Primers for Large Pores 2024
Struggling with large pores? A good primer can be your skin's best friend, helping to minimize their appearance and create a smooth canvas for makeup application. To help you find the perfect primer, we've rounded up three of the best primer for large pores.
Tumblr media
The Experts' Pick: Benefit's POREfessional Pore Minimizing Primer
Benefit's POREfessional Pore Minimizing Primer is a cult classic for a reason. This lightweight, oil-free formula instantly blurs the appearance of pores and fine lines, creating a smooth, airbrushed finish. The unique formula contains Vitamin E, which helps to hydrate and protect the skin.
For Dry Skin: La Mer's The Perfecting Primer
If you have dry skin and large pores, La Mer's The Perfecting Primer is a luxurious option. This hydrating primer contains Miracle Broth, which helps to soothe and nourish the skin. The formula also contains silicone, which helps to fill in pores and create a smooth surface for makeup application
With SPF: Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer
For those looking for a primer with added sun protection, Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer is an excellent choice. This lightweight, mineral-based primer offers SPF 15 protection and helps to blur the appearance of pores and fine lines. It also has a soft-focus effect that creates a flawless complexion.
Ingredients That Make Pores Appear Larger
Oily ingredients: Oils can clog pores and make them appear larger.
Heavy formulas: Thick, heavy formulas can settle into pores and accentuate their appearance.
Comedogenic ingredients: Ingredients that are likely to clog pores should be avoided.
How to Choose the Right Primer
When choosing a primer, consider your skin type and specific concerns. If you have oily skin, look for a mattifying primer. If you have dry skin, opt for a hydrating primer. And if you're concerned about sun damage, choose a primer with SPF.

Hey guys,
During the christmas sales I was on the hunt to try some new products I hadn't used before or something I wanted to use again that I hadn't in a long time. So while I was browsing I came across some Benefit bargains at John Lewis I couldn't ignore. In their sale I came across a gift set called Benefit Join the Porefessionals Trio Gift Set , £19.50 (worth £37). This gift set gives you all the products to set and keep your makeup in place so let's chat about the products.
In this giftset you get 3 travel sized products from the Porefessional collection including 2 mini primers and a setting spray. Products that minimise the appearance the pores is what Benefit is most known for. A giftset like this is perfect to try out a selection of products without breaking the bank.
Let's start off with the Super Setting Spray. This spray is designed to be a weightless formula that can help blur pores and make your makeup last up to 16 hours. I always wanted to try out this spray because a lot of people have said how much they love the mist applicator and it's less intense then other setting sprays that drench your face. This spray sets really quickly on your face so you aren't waiting ages for it to set. I find it mad because when I apply the spray I do notice my face looks smoother which is so surprising that a spray can have that effect. I'm so glad I got this spray and I'll definetly get a full size one when I run out.
As I mentioned earlier you also get 2 mini primers in this giftset so I got mini The Porefessional Hydrate Face Primer and Porefessional Pore Minimising Face Primer. Both of these primers are designed to smooth and reduce the appearance of pores on your complexion. Everyone knows and loves the original primer including myself, I used to use the primer all the time and it worked wonders on smoothing my skin. After the success of the original primer Benefit then released a upgraded version that not only blurred your complexion but could also hydrate your skin at the same time. It's perfect for anyone would dry skin especially. Both primers feel amazing on the skin and really do help to smooth your complexion without drying your skin out but I would say the hydrating version is my fav out of the two.
I love sets like these because like I said it's a great way to try out a few products in one go without breaking the bank. It's one of the things I love about Benefit they have a massive range of mini / travel size makeup products so you get the chance to try out their products at a more affordable price point. So check out your local Benefit counters or stores to see what products they have to offer.
Lots of love

How to Pick the Best Foundation Primer for Your Skintype and Concerns
Primers come in many different tones, formulas, and finishes, and whilst you can certainly choose a “one-size-fits-all” style approach to your primer, that’s not necessarily best for everyone. There are multiple variations of product which can help to target individual skin types and skin concerns.
Tumblr media
IMAGE: GLOSSIER
PRIMER 101:
In short, primers are base products that you apply after you’ve cleansed and moisturized your skin, but before you apply any coverage products like foundation or concealer. Primers are designed to help make your makeup last a lot longer and smooth over the surface of the skin so your makeup applies evenly.
They’re a great makeup prep product, but they’re not the same as your moisturizer. Some primers are skincare-makeup hybrids which allow you to simply apply it to your skin and get benefits of both. Depending on the primer you use, you may find combining a moisturizer and a primer provide too much “slip” to your skin, causing makeup to slide and apply unevenly. Majority of the time, this can be overcome by simply allowing a full 1-2 minutes for each layer of product to absorb and set before moving on to the next.
PRIMERS FOR EVERYONE:
If your only goal and concern is to prolong the wear of your makeup without targeting any concerns such as redness or excess oil, stick with the basics and opt for a regular primer. These primers are not all universal, but their main goal and purpose is to simply keep your makeup looking fresher for longer, no matter your skin type.
Tumblr media
IMAGE: GLOSSIER
SKINCARE-MAKEUP HYBRID PRIMERS:
Certain brands offer products which provide skin with nutrients, vitamins, and hydration, but combined with ingredients which are also designed to increase the wear time of your makeup. These primers typically are richer in texture than a traditional primer, and they may even be heavier than your regular moisturizer, if you find this too much for your skin, try a serum primer. A serum primer has the consistency of a serum with many of its benefits, but also works to prime your skin for makeup application.
Try: Glossier Priming Moisturizer, Tula Face Filter Blurring & Moisturizing Prime, e.l.f Hydrating Primer Serum PRIMERS FOR DRY/SENSITIVE SKIN:
If you have a drier skin type you may find that makeup has a tendency to appear flaky and cakey on your skin. As foundation and concealer can often grip onto areas of the skin which are flaky, makeup can “cake up” on these areas and look uneven, wrinkly, and blotchy. A hydrating primer can work to smooth over these areas whilst simultaneously hydrating the skin so makeup applies smoothly and has a healthy, hydrated base to apply to.
Try: Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer,  Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer
  PRIMERS FOR OILY SKIN:
For those with oily skin, a primer is your best bet for keeping makeup on your skin and preventing it from sliding and slipping all over the place, whilst simultaneously keeping your skin matte. If you’re someone with oily skin opt for a specifically designed mattifying or oil control primer designed to help reduce the appearance of shine and keep your makeup on all day.
Try: Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer, Bobbi Brown Primer Plus Mattifier
Tumblr media
IMAGE: URBAN OUTFITTERS
PRIMERS FOR LARGE PORES/UNEVEN SKIN:
Large pores can be a burden on makeup, but every persons pore size is different and this can vary based on genetics and skin type. Whilst some brand claim to “shrink” your pores, that’s not really possible. Large pores can cause makeup to look cakey and you may find that foundations and creams “settle” into your pores. Furthermore, if you’ve suffered with bad acne in the past and have been left with “ice pick” acne scars, a velvety, resurfacing primer could be just the trick.
Try: Benefit Porefessional Primer, Too Faced Primed & Poreless + Advanced Formula Primer PRIMERS FOR FINE LINES/BUMPY SKIN:
From fine lines, to wrinkles, to acne scarring, skin that has an uneven texture can pose a real struggle for makeup. Certain formulas can settle into fine lines and wrinkles (thus exaggerating them) and foundation can often accentuate uneven and bumpy skin texture. A smoothing, primer designed to blur imperfections will help to smooth the texture of the skin and provide a layer between your skin and.
Try: Kiehl’s Micro-Blur Skin Perfector, Marc Jacobs Under(cover) Blurring Coconut Face Primer
PRIMERS FOR REDNESS:
Redness can occur regardless of skin type, so whether you’re dry and flaky, or oily, blotchy, red, and acne-prone, a primer specifically designed to correct redness in the skin can work magic. Many redness reducing primers contain a dose of yellow or green pigments to “correct” the redness in the skin, whilst it may look daunting to apply these bright shades to your skin, they essentially “knock out” the redness meaning you don’t need to add layers and layers of product to cover up redness.  If you have fair skin, try mixing these highly pigmented primers with a standard facial primer or moisturizer before application.
Try: MAKE UP FOR EVER Step 1 Primer Color Corrector - Redness, Peter Thomas Roth Skin To Die For Redness-Reducing Treatment Primer
Tumblr media
IMAGE: BOBBI BROWN
PRIMERS FOR DULL SKIN:
An illuminating primer is a glowy skin must-have. Dewy, illuminating, hydrating, and totally glow-inducing, but they’re often lighter than your typical hydrating primer (which may have illuminating particles also!) If you have dull skin or just love to rock dewy skin look for a a primer that contains light reflecting particles. These small, shimmering particles work to “bounce” light off the skin to give it a more radiant glow , you can also use it atop of makeup as a highlighter, mixed in with foundation to give your foundation a glow (and lighten the coverage) or on its own for an ultra-subtle, natural glow.
Try: Laura Mercier Pure Canvas Primer - Illuminating, Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Face Primer
PRIMERS FOR A BRONZED GLOW:
Freshly tanned skin has a natural radiance about it, but a natural tan isn’t necessarily the safest thing you can do for your skin. If you’re wanting a little bit of shimmer and glow, try a bronzing primer. Use it underneath makeup for shimmer, glow, and a subtle bronze to your skin, wear on its own as a makeshift style tinted moisturizer, or mix a little in with your foundation to darken an existing shade + add a healthy dose of glow.
Try: Laura Geller Spackle Tinted Under Make-up Primer (Bronze), Ofra Cosmetics Rays Of Light Bronzing Primer

Review: Benefit Porefessional Primer
Tumblr media
This primer is one of those putty-like types, a little goes a long way and it just disappears into the skin. Keeps the skin hydrated but not oily and makes foundation application super easy.
The only problem I have with it is the price point but the quality really makes it feel worth it if you can afford it. It’s a similar texture to the smashbox pore primer, just slightly easier to apply as the smashbox one pills up sometimes.
It can be worn alone to control oil and to blur pores if you don’t feel like putting on makeup one day.
3/3 :) Definitely give it a try if it’s within your budget.

Let’s talk makeup. Makeup’s fun. Life, on the other hand, is currently not fun.
So anyhow! This has been what I’ve mainly been using lately. I’ll put it under a cut so. If it’s not y’all’s thing, feel free to skip.
Benefit The Porefessional Hydrating Primer -- So I just recently tried it and it’s my new favorite. Blends into your skin really nicely, and gives you a good base to work with. It is scented, which I don’t like, but I haven’t had any reactions so. We will continue using.
IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation in Light -- As you can see, the tube’s almost empty, and I’m nervous because apparently they’ve made some changes, and a lot of people don’t like the new formula. But this has been my go-to foundation for everyday wear for a really long time. Super easy to work with; I usually use my fingers to apply it, it doesn’t get streaky or set too quickly, and most importantly, it’s comfortable. It doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a full face of makeup. And it’s buildable, so you can get your desired level of coverage. I will say this though; there’s a very limited shade range, and it skews light. Do with that what you will.
Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in Fair Neutral -- It is way too light for me (I bought it online without swatching in-store--whoops) but I like the formula and it’s nice for brightening up the undereye.
Pretty Vulgar Translucent Setting Powder -- So this one I got in a subscription box, and I’d buy it for real. It’s not pigmented, but it’s not ghost-white like most *translucent* powders.
Cover FX Perfector Face Palette in Light-Medium -- The bronzer y’all. It’s so good. The only one I;ve ever tried that doesn’t look orange and unnatural on me.
Elizabeth Mott Show Me Your Cheeks Blush in Soft Pink -- Normally I shy away from blush because I end up looking like a goddamn clown, but I like this one. It’s very subtle, just brightens you up a little
IT Cosmetics... (actually I don’t know what they call it now because. they rebranded) -- but it’s the blush/bronzer/highlighter palette, and I use it solely for the highlighter because it’s my absolute favorite. So pretty and shimmery and it applies so nicely :D <3
ColourPop All Things Equinox and She’s Got Solstice palettes -- I just really love ColourPop. The price does not line up with the quality in the slightest, and they’ve got the prettiest palettes. One’s purples and taupes, and the other’s pinks and browns. The latter I got because despite the fewer number of shades, it had the same color theme as Lime Crime’s Venus XL 2, which I’ve been obsessed with since it was released but. I don’t really feel comfortable buying from the brand, so I passed on it. So naturally I snapped up this one, and then as for the other, those are just shades I really like how I look in. They’re both beautiful and I’ve had so much fun playing with them.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Medium Brown + Tinted Brow Gel in Espresso -- I really like the pencil, it’s a super fine tip so it’s easy to draw hair strokes and avoid the sharpied-on look (which some people like but. I don’t.) The brow gel’s pretty good too, but I wouldn’t wear it on it’s own.
Mile High Club Mascara -- Another subscription box find. Doesn’t smudge, whereas like. 99% of mascaras I’ve tried end up completely under my eyes within a couple hours lmao. Also the brush! It’s dense but narrow, so great for getting in my tiny lil eyes, and gets the lashes really full and long.
ColourPop Lippie Stix in Cookie -- It wears really well, and it’s matte without being bone-dry. The color’s pretty nice too, I normally like really bold/deep shades but I’ve been doing more eye-intesive looks lately, so I’ve been keeping lips subtle. I’m predicting this as a beauty trend tbh--I think when we’ve got half our faces covered in masks, it’s gonna be all about the eyes.
Ultimate Face Transformer Primer + literally any eyeshadow -- Okay, so this one’s a little weird, but bear with me; basically, I’ve hated every single eyeliner I’ve ever tried. Either they’re too hard to apply or they don’t wear well or a combination. So now I just make my own. Ultimate Face is only available to industry professionals, and I don’t know offhand of any similar products so I haven’t experimented with any consumer brands and therefore don’t know how easy this would be to replicate? But you can just use eyeshadow by itself as liner, which is what I used to until the pump broke on this particular bottle and I added it to my personal collection. But I take a lil pump of the primer and then just scrape a lil eyeshadow out of the palette and mix them until desired consistency. I typically just use black, but it works with any color. A lot of people like to use an angled brush, but I prefer a little pointy detail brush. It’s really easy to work with and doesn’t budge once it sets.
And that’s that! I don’t wear makeup every day, and when I do, I usually don’t wear all this listed here. I’ve just been doing more involved looks lately since I have more time on my hands, and trying to have some fun with it since I’m probably not going to be doing anything like this once I’m back at work/school.

Hey guys,
Recently I wanted to try out some new products but I didn’t really want to pay full price for products I haven’t used before so instead I decided to pick up mini versions. These products are perfect when you want to try a small selection of products without committing.
Benefit recently brought out a new version of their famous Porefessional primer called the “Hydrating Primer”. I’m a nude fan of their original primer but I haven’t used it in a little while so I decided to pick up a mini original and a mini hydrating primer so I could try out the new formula and add the original to my collection. With the original primer a little goes a long way so while they’re smaller sizes they can still last you a while. I also really wanted to try the original They’re Real mascara by Benefit, I’ve used their other ones like roller lash and damn girl but never their actual original so again I decided to pick it up to try out.
I’m really excited to try out these products since I haven’t used Benefit products in a little while. The only mini product I wouldn’t recommend buying is their foundation because product wise you probably get a face and a half’s worth of product so get yourself a sample instead if you want to colour match. Buying mini makeup products is such a smart way to shop because you’re still getting the same quality of product but you’re not breaking the bank and places like boots do offers where you can get 3 minis for £25.00 which is really good since they products are £10.50-£12.00 each.
If you’re looking to try out new makeup without breaking the bank check if the brand you like does mini versions (FYI Fenty Beauty do mini gift sets and they’re really worth checking out). I’ll be doing a follow up post to let you know how I’ve got on with these products especially the hydrating primer and mascara, very curious to see how they compare to other Benefit products.
Lots of love
Bella. Xx

makeup routine for lazy peeps like me
none of you asked for this but I feel like sharing it bc I'm bored and on a long ass car ride
🌸
Step one: SKINCARE
skincare is my life!!! I may be a depressive ass bitch who isolates herself but I love my skincare
my before makeup skincare consists of:
cleanser (I use cetaphil bc its cheap and works amazingly 👌👌)
toner (I use both garniers new rose spray and milk makeup matcha toner bc I love both smmmmmmmm!)
moisturizer (I'm currently using tartes h2o moisturizer but I'm trying to use it up so I can buy neutrogena gel one for combo skin)
an eye depuffer if im feeling fancy (I use garniers but i want to buy pixis gold one)
lip chap!!! (I love carmex, I bought it the other day and my lips have never been softer)
🌸
step two: PRIMER
so I just started doing this, and I'm still figuring it out because I dont wear foundation/concealer cause I dont need them and also think it's too much work to put in everyday, but I wear highlighter
I start with spot priming my large pores with porefessional, then I spray elf aqua mist all over my face to just prime and hydrate it (that is gonna be a BLESSING when winter comes and all moisture sucks itself from my face)
🌸
step three: BROWS
I have really strong brows so for brows I just pencil in some more definition with the nyx micro pencil (I love it sooooo muchhhh the colour matches my brows amazingly, which is a miracle) then I brush the elf brow gel through it (I place gel on my brow then brush through with the spoolie from the pencil)
🌸
step four: EYES
this is the longest step for me besides skincare, just because of how much I put on my eyes (which isnt a lot)
I start by priming my eyes bc i have really oily eyelids. to prime I actually use the elf duo concealer (the one that comes with a white glittery highlighter). I blend it in with my fingers then set with the elf hd setting powder (the big one not the undereye one)
once my eyes are set, I bring out my tartelette in bloom palette (rip funny girl which fell into my tub😭). I start by blending mixture of jetsetter and sweetheart into my crease, dragging it under my eyes and on my lid. to finish my eyeshadow I take either one of the shimmers off the palette, a champagne highlighter, or a pinkish shimmer from my big 100 colour elf palette
once my eyeshadow is done, I finish my eyes by curling my lashes and applying lash paradise mascara (one and a half coats; I take it out of the tube, apply it to my first eye and then apply whats left to the other, I then repeat doing the second eye first)
🌸
step five: HIGHLIGHTER
I love highlighter so much. Highlighter is my life. Highlighter is my love. I alternate between seeing my face from space or super natural glow from inside
I start with putting a liquid highlighter (usually elfs bare illuminating one) on my high points (cheekbones, brow bones, nose, cupids bow, chin) by blending with my fingers
if I'm feeling like it that day I might set it with either lit or strobe from the tarte pro glow contour kit, or elf baked highlighter in moonlight pearls
🌸
step six: LIPS
one word: lipgloss
Im currently in love with fenty gloss and essences wet look glosses
🌸
step seven: SETTING SPRAY
I always set my face with a spray to avoid my makeup running down my face, so after im done my makeup I take a bath in all nighter
🌸
and thats it! I keep it super simple because I love just accentuating my features and HIGHLIGHTER
I hope yall enjoy this!
