what's the threshold theory
There was a post about how Tom is the only crew member who isn't really affected by the Borg, and there's a theory that he has so much luck because he saw the past and the future when he crossed the transwarp threshold. He saw the past and the future, all of time and space. There's some subconscious part of him that remembers that experience. In fact, Tom refused to play a part in Chakotay indulging Annorax's temporal incursions, probably because a part of him knew nothing good could come of it.
If we extend that same theory to Janeway, some of her wild luck with time travel and other crack plans starts to make sense. She doesn't verbally hate time travel until after the events of Threshold, since it happens in Time and Again without complaint. Janeway has an uncanny knack for time travel, as evidenced every time she deals with it. She hates time travel, but it might be because part of her knows exactly how to manipulate the timeline. She manages to avoid the "inevitable" temporal explosion in Future's End, saving both Voyager and Braxton. She resets the entire timeline in Year of Hell, and no one else followed her reasoning. She pulled it off flawlessly. In Relativity, she senses the incidents are all related, despite it being just one reading that connects them. By the time she's involved, she has a temporal incursion factor of .0036 and a time travel protocol named after her, even if that may just be Braxton's personal grudge. Then there's Endgame, where she intentionally changes the timeline. Up until this point, she has been dragged into time travel, but for the first time, she jumps in on purpose. How does Admiral Janeway know how to get them home sooner in a way that completely avoids the Temporal Integrity Commission? It's because she has seen all of time, and part of her knows exactly what needs to happen so she can get Voyager home and do it in a way that becomes baked into the prime timeline. Maybe she doesn't consciously remember what happened during her transformation, but the experience lives in her mind somewhere, guiding her decisions.

feel like there is a connection (wishful thinking) between “we don’t pick the ballroom we just dance” and “i’ll do it but not because you told me to” lol
Ooohh yeah I see it! Thank you so much for the suggestion anon! <3
Without further ado, have some more Noirpunk GIFs!
Noir and Hobie both being little shits (affectionate <3) when being told what to do!
BONUS:
I couldn't decide if I wanted to make 2 long GIFs where the dialogue is connected, or 4 shorter ones where it's split up, so I did both lol
(Once again thank you for the suggestion anon! This was such a good idea! We need as many noirpunk GIFs as we can get lol!)
If you, or anyone else, have more suggestions for noirpunk GIFs (or spiderverse GIFs in general) my inbox is always open! <3

Dr. D gets to dress-up as a cowboy, well, why not cousin Eddie? The look isn't original, he's dressed in Lemmy Kilmister's outfit from Motorhead's album Ace of Spades. Reference and discussion under the cut.
Lemmy is wearing belt and a bandolier, which is ridiculous and I found that challenging to incorporate into Motor Ed's proportions and the general KP style. I ended up omitting both and just stuck with the jacket, omitting tassels on the arm, and spade buttons.
No signature KP-era Silver baggy pants as the band are basically wearing vacuum-sealed 70s jeans. The shine on the jacket is there to differentiate it from the rest of the outfit, since it's black on black on black - this took a good portion of my time. I had shine on Drakken's belt in his S1 model in-mind when doing the patterning. I am very lazy with colouring for fan art, so I just used the show's established black, colour-picked, of course. Same with the coloured portion of the line art.
The original sketch didn't have the tongue out with piercing, there was a stray line that looked like the start of something, so I went with it. I don't like this expression for him in his pose/scenario, so I stayed with the smirk. Built the rough clean body to try to figure out the shirt/jacket combination, since that would be very challenging with the layering and tassels.

Why are we as a fandom not talking more about this scene ??
Clive is literally asking the professor to come back and stop him. Like this isn't him pretending to be Future Luke : he looks genuinely upset/displeased even after the professor promises to come back. He only goes back to smiling after the professor says, and I quote "I wouldn't dream of leaving things here in that state" before talking about stopping his future self. Clive wants confirmation that Layton is actually going to confront the bad guys, that he won't just solve the mystery but fix it too.
And this is literally so important. Clive's speech at the end, about getting saved. This is concrete proof that he had truly meant it from the start, because he's asking for Layton to stop him and thus save everyone here. Which, hey- he didn't just hope and wait to get saved, he tried to save himself too.
Yep, that's right. The game talks about how dangerous it was for Clive to bring Layton underground : it doesn't talk about how even more dangerous it was to let him leave. He could have brought back cops (he did). He could have gathered precious knowledge out there (he did). He could have never come back (and yet he did !!). Clive letting Layton leave is the biggest threat to his plan, and yet HE DID. And you know what else he did ? Make Layton promise to stop him. You can't make a clearer call for help, you just can't.
"Oh but it doesn't make his crimes more forgivable, now does it-" of course not. This isn't about Clive's redemption, it's about Clive trying to avoid needing a redemption : his efforts are vain the moment he started using the fortress. But. There were efforts.

okay okay, ask game, time after time + ff au
Smithy after Neil has left Palmetto and he's on his own for his final year. hows his anxiety at this point? is he close with any of the other foxes? if not, how does he cope with being without his friends?
Fluent Freshman AU | Unusual Fic Asks - Closed
FF remembers with perfect clarity the moment he made the best decision he had ever made in his entire life. The moment in his 2nd year when Captain Neil had offered him the Vice Captain position. "I think you'd do well. I know you'd never abuse your authority and I can trust you to have my back." Captain Neil had said and FF's heart had soared at the compliment.
Except he'd been working with Betsy and Nicky on quite a few of his worst habits.
Like not thinking about whether or not he actually wanted to do something and then continuing to do it out of a sense of obligation.
So he gave himself a moment and considered the awful and terrible logistics of becoming the Vice Captain. He doesn't have Captain Neil's charisma. He doesn't have the balls to go after the new Foxes to get them to fall in line. He certainly doesn't have the time with his honors college obligations.
Most importantly he was pretty sure that it's important to have a far deeper understanding of the game than FF's trial and error understanding of the rules and expectations.
"I'm going to have to decline, I appreciate the offer, but I don't think I would do the position honor. I'll always support you and watch your back Captain Neil, but I'm not the right person." he had said.
He still remembers how Captain Neil's shoulders had slumped and remembers how he almost took his refusal back until Captain Neil smiled at him. "I knew it was a long shot, but I had to take it." Captain Neil had said and their friendship had continued on the exact same though whenever Jack had gotten a big head Captain Neil would always remind him that FF was his first pick.
Now he sees the true fruit of that decision as he watches Jack struggle to get all the new Fox personalities in line. Their success in the years since Captain Neil joined on has greatly widened the pool of interested players but Coach Wymack has not changed the kind of kids who get invited onto the Foxes.
He wishes Wymack had let him room with Robin but she had been determined to properly have a 'dorm room' experience once Captain Neil had left. Captain Neil had needed both of their support the last year without Andrew or the rest of the Foxes so FF and Robin had roomed with him and it had been nice.
Now, he has to listen to Jack bitch, whine, and complain every night back in their room. It's even worse when, like tonight, Jack is drunk.
"Why don't you call me Captain Jack?" Jack demands with a scowl.
FF has had years and years of therapy at this point. Has worked past many a trauma and anxiety. Is close friends with all of the Monsters and the Miracle team of the Foxes. He's grown, healed, and maybe even found some confidence in himself.
(He's still worried that his grandma's new boyfriend doesn't like him, that the old barista is plotting his death since Captain Neil had gotten upset last year when he'd gotten his order made wrong for the millionth time and started a chain of events where she was fired for purposefully messing up special request orders, and that Neil or Andrew would find out he was the president of the Russian Language Honors society.)
There's no true yardstick for recovery, for personal growth, or for the internal renaissance he's experienced at Palmetto.
But maybe his growth can be measured when he looks at Jack over the glass of his own drink, "It's because I don't respect you like I respect Captain Neil." he says and doesn't feel bad about it at all.

Since we have so many wonderful new members of the Realm of the Elderlings fandom here the last few months, here is a reminder that the band Within Temptation has a song inspired by one FitzChivalry Farseer and that is NOT an exaggeration, they literally wrote it about him/the books
lyrics below cut!
The child without a name grew up to be the hand
To watch you, to shield you or kill on demand
The choice he'd made he could not comprehend
His blood a grim secret they had to command
He's torn between his honor and the true love of his life
He prayed for both but was denied
So many dreams were broken and so much was sacrificed
Was it worth the ones we loved and had to leave behind?
So many years have past, who are the noble and the wise?
Will all our sins be justified?
The curse of his powers tormented his life
Obeying the crown was a sinister price
His soul was tortured by love and by pain
He surely would flee but the oath made him stay
He's torn between his honor and the true love of his life
He prayed for both but was denied
So many dreams were broken and so much was sacrificed
Was it worth the ones we loved and had to leave behind?
So many years have past, who are the noble and the wise?
Will all our sins be justified?
Please forgive me for the sorrow, for leaving you in fear
For the dreams we had to silence, that's all they'll ever be
Still I'll be the hand that serves you
Though you'll not see that it is me
So many dreams were broken and so much was sacrificed
Was it worth the ones we loved and had to leave behind?
So many years have past, who are the noble and the wise?
Will all our sins be justified?
