North America's largest ski resort just got even bigger!
Powder Mountain has added 2,390 acres of skiable terrain to its already impressive 10,460 acres, bringing its total to a whopping 12,850 acres. With this expansion, Powder Mountain is now the largest ski area in North America by acreage. While most of the new terrain will be private, the resort will also be opening up 900 acres of lift-served and 147 acres of hike-to access to the public in the DMI and Wolf Creek Canyon areas. Powder Mountain plans to offer guided tours of this area in the 2024-25 season and install a lift for the 2025-26 season. This expansion is part of a $100 million investment by retired Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings who bought majority shares in the resort last summer. Powder Mountain's innovative business model will keep part of the resort public while making other parts private. So, while intrepid skiers and snowboarders can still hike to ride the private areas, they would also have to find their own way out.
