DC announces new titles featuring Power Girl, Fire & Ice

Both titles will spin out of May’s ‘Power Girl Special.’

“Power Girl” And “Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville” Spin Out of “Power Girl Special #1″

DC Comics has announced two new series spinning out from writer Leah Williams and artist Marguerite Sauvage’s Power Girl Special #1 one-shot - an ongoing Power Girl comic series and Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville.

Power Girl Special #1 follows the events in the recent Lazarus Planet and Action Comics storylines. The one-shot also contains a backup story about Fire and Ice from writer Joanne Starer, artist Natacha Bustos, colorist Tamra Bonvillain, and letterer Ariana Maher. In the backup story Fire and Ice, while responding to a natural disaster in Baltimore, debate the merits of bringing in Ice’s old flame Guy Gardner. When Guy shows up and causes major drama it is up to Superman to stop the ensuing fight.

Power Girl Special #1 goes on sale on May 30, 2023. The comic features a main cover by Sauvage, open to order variant covers by Stanley “Artgerm” Lau and Amanda Commer, a 1:25 variant by Tula Lotay, a 1:50 variant by Tay Tenfold, and a variant by David Nakayama that will also be available in a foil format.

Power Girl will then star in a standalone series by writer Leah Williams and artist Eduardo Pansica.  “After the events of “Knight Terrors," a long dormant Kryptonian threat has returned to take down Superman and his family. Who could possibly stop it? Well, according to Superman, it’s Power Girl. You won’t want to miss this roadtrip race against time as Paige reconnects with her roots and strives to save her newfound family.” (DC Comics)

Power Girl #1, featuring the variant cover art above by Jonboy Meyer, goes on sale on September 5, 2023.

Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville hails from writer Joanne Starer, artist Natacha Bustos, colorist Tamra Bonvillian, and letterer Ariana Maher. “Superman sent the former Justice Leaguers packing for Smallville to lie low following their extremely public and utterly disastrous mission in Baltimore, and in doing so doomed them to a fate worse than death: irrelevance. the idea that there's some innate knowledge that comes with womanhood is inherently bad and like suggesting that 13 somehow gained access to that coz he's a woman and then immediately lost it when he regenerated is so ?? like he was still the same person as 13 and she's the same person now like even if i accept that she somehow would have some Woman Power as 13 why would she then lose it just coz she's a man now. like gender essentialism isn't cute even if it's trans inclusive please 😭
