Summary: No one was sure what to do with the four high school students who'd fallen out of the sky when McKay touched what appeared to be an Ancient refrigerator, but in hindsight was probably one of the predecessors of the Quantum Mirror.

My thoughts: So GOOD! I like how they talk about the cultural conception of monster in the Power Rangers world due to how things evolved in their world as a result of having rangers. I wish we'd gotten to see Tommy getting involved somehow, maybe chasing after his kids. There's an unfortunate lack of Tommy. But Trent on a hairtrigger in also fun.

Lord, do you really want to know?

Oh, all right.

I was born in Vancouver, Canada, and came to Australia with my parents when I was 2. I think. Dad’s an Aussie, Mum’s English, go figure. Talk about Fate and Destiny. But three passports come in handy.

I’ve always lived in Sydney, except when I didn’t. After graduating with a BA Communications from the then Institute of Technology (now University) a few years ahead of Hugh Jackman, dammit, talk about rotten timing, I headed off to England and lived there for 3 years. It was interesting. I worked for a bunch of nutters in a community health centre and got the sack because I refused to go do EST with them (you stand in the middle of a circle and thank people for hurling verbal abuse at you for your own good, they said, and then were surprised when I said no), was a customer services officer for DHL London (would you believe at one time I knew every single airport code for every single airport in the world, off by heart?!?), got roped into an extremely dubious life insurance selling scheme (I was young and broke, need I say more?) and ended up realizing a life-long dream of working professionally with horses. After 18 grueling months I woke up, and came home.

Since then I’ve done customer service in the insurance and telecommunications industries, been a training officer, PR Officer in local government, production assistant in educational publishing, taught English and Business Communication at TAFE, been a supervisor and run my own sf/fantasy/mystery bookshop. Money for jam, there! I also managed to squeeze in a Master’s Degree in Children’s Literature from Macquarie University.

I used to have horses of my own, and spent lots of time and money showing, breeding, training and judging, but then I came off one time too many and so a large part of my life ended.

When I’m not writing I’m heavily involved in the Castle Hill Players, my local community theatre group, as an actor, director, prompt, stage manager (but not all at once!) and publicity officer.

I’m a story junkie. Books, film, tv ... you name it. Star Wars, Star Trek, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica (the new series), Stargate, Firefly, X-Men, Buffy, Angel, Supernatural, The Professionals, Forever Knight, Due South, The West Wing, The Shield, Sandbaggers, Homicide, Wiseguy, The Shield, The Closer ... and the list goes on. And that’s just the media stuff!

I love music. While writing I listen primarily to film soundtracks, because they’ve been written primarily to evoke emotional responses in the listener. This helps access emotion during tough scenes. Plus, the music is pretty. At least the stuff I listen to is. Favourite film composers include Hans Zimmer, Alan Silvestri, James Horner and John Williams. Vocalists I enjoy are Josh Groban, Russell Watson, Sarah McLachlan, Simon and Garfunkel , Queen, The Moody Blues, Steeleye Span, Meatloaf, Mike Oldfield ... anyone who can carry a tune, basically.

In short, I’m an only child with an overactive imagination, 3 dogs, 2 cats and not enough hours in the day. I don’t drink, smoke, or do enough exercise. I make periodic stabs at eating properly. Chocolate is my besetting downfall.

North American Premiere for The Journey Film Announced

  Toei Animation and Manga Productions have announced the North American premiere for Shizuno Kobun’s film The Journey, which will take place Saturday, April 12 at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California. The Journey will stream on Crunchyroll in the spring.

  Manga Productions describes The Journey as follows: 

  An invading army threatens to destroy Mecca and enslave its peaceful inhabitants. Aws, a seemingly simple potter, is one of the few ready to stand up against the massive invading army to defend their home. But when he discovers a long-lost friend he believed to be dead, his dark past is revealed.

    The film was originally directed by Shizuno Kubo (Godzilla, Case Closed), with script by Atsuhiro Tomioka (Pokemon, Fairy Tail), character designs by Tatsuro Iwamoto (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney), and score composed by Kaoru Wada (Inuyasha, D. Gray-man).

Plucked from assignment in Antarctica, Air Force Major Blake leaves Earth with an international expedition to find the lost city of Atlantis because aliens built the pyramids. No, really. What they find is a collapsing city trapped under the ocean and space vampires. No, really.

Antarctica is a punishment, plain and simple.

It’s as close to disciplinary action as they can get without formally reprimanding him for disobeying a direct order. The only reason he hasn’t been hustled right out of the Air Force is that penalising him for saving lives is a PR nightmare. So Bellamy flies helicopters across the most desolate continent on Earth and honestly, it’s pretty okay. Sure it’s so cold his cheeks are permanently wind burned and it’s not exactly exciting, but after Afghanistan exciting isn’t all that appealing to him. There’s a lot to be said for how empty it all is, the McMurdo base is small and most of his job ends up being flying from Australia to McMurdo, or McMurdo to a hush-hush research station deeper into the Antarctic waste.

As long as he doesn’t watch that X-Files episode about some quasi-evil parasite living in the ice he likes the solitude.

My thoughts: I appreciate the way that they weave together the military and the Power Rangers interactions.

ANiUTa Music President and CEO Shiro Sasaki and prolific Japanese voice actor Ryo Horikawa (Vegeta, Andromeda Shun, Captain Falcon) discuss ANiUTa’s new anime music streaming service in this panel moderated by Alfonso Ortiz of qdopp, Inc. and Honey’s Anime. 

  GUEST: Shiro Sasaki

Shiro Sasaki is the President & CEO of ANiUTa, INC. and FlyingDog Inc.. In 1982, he got his start in the music business when he entered Victor Music Industries (Currently: JVC Kenwood Victor Entertainment). After three years of work at the Victor Music Industries’ Osaka office, he was promoted to music production director for anime. Mr. Sasaki has produced music for many series including Akira, Macross Plus, Macross 7, Macross F, Gunbuster, Gunbuster 2, You’re Under Arrest, Memories, Brave series, Escaflowne: A Girl in Gaea, Cowboy Bebop, X, Cardcaptor Sakura, Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Genesis of Aquarion, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, and more. In January of 2009, Mr. Sasaki founded FlyingDog Inc., and in March of 2017, he founded ANiUTa, INC.

  GUEST: Ryo Horikawa

Ryo Horikawa is a live action and voice actor from Osaka, Japan, known for voicing some of the most iconic characters in anime. Some of his most well-known roles include Vegeta (Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super), Heiji Hattori (Detective Conan), Reinhard von Lohengramm (Legend of the Galactic Heroes), Shun Andromeda (Saint Seiya), Kou Uraki (Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory), Karasu (YuYu Hakusho), and Zaruchimu (Zatch Bell!). He currently represents himself and other top talent as President of Aslead Company. 

GUEST: Alfonso Ortiz

Alfonso Ortiz is the Editor in Chief of Honey’s Anime, an information website for anime enthusiasts; the PR manager for qdopp, Inc.; and the manager of the Honey’s Anime US branch. As a journalist, he attends various gaming and anime conventions in the USA and around the world. While living in Japan, he came to understand Japanese culture and developed a love for the delicious tororo soba.

GUEST: TEDDYLOID

TeddyLoid started his career as MIYAVI’s DJ and sound producer by joining his world tour when he was only 18 years old. He produced the OST for the GAINAX anime “Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt” with ☆Taku Takahashi(m-flo). He has also had experience in units with Shibasaki Ko and DECO*27, established galaxias!, worked on the album “TOXIC” for the GazettE, and has produced “Neo STARGATE” for Momoiro Clover Z. Furthermore, he has provided BGM to the anime “Mekakucity Actors”.

  TeddyLoid has also produced Vocaloid IA tracks and remixes, Square Enix’s “Mugen∞Knights”, and WRECKING CREW ORCHESTRA’s new long production “SUPERLOSERZ SAVE THE EARTH”, directed by Amon Miyamoto. In 2014 he produced the music for the short film “ME!ME!ME!”, which was visualized by Hibiki Yoshizaki from Studio khara and vocals sang by DAOKO.

  TeddyLoid debuted as a solo artist by releasing his EP from King Records’ EVIL LINE RECORDS in August 2014, “UNDER THE BLACK MOON” and his first album “BLACK MOON RISING” in September. In summer 2015, he started “Momoiro Clover Z×TeddyLoid Remix Project” and released an official remix album, “Re:MOMOIRO CLOVER Z” . In Momoiro Clover Z’s big summer event “Momoshinsai 2015”, he performed the opening act as DJ. In December of that year, he released his first collaboration product with 12 tracks and 14 sets of guests on “SILENT PLANET” as his original 2nd album. The guests included big names like Tetsuya Komuro, Yasutaka Nakata, HISASHI from GLAY, KOHH, and more.

  In 2016, TeddyLoid produced two tracks for HAL College of Technology & Design, one of which titled “Daisuki withTeddyLoid” was a commercial with Hibiki Yoshizaki and vocals by DAOKO. The contrasting track “Daikirai feat. Chanmina” also garnered attention for featuring the up and coming Korean rapper Chanmina. In 2017, TeddyLoid went on to perform at Ultra Japan Festival, produced songs for the new anime 18if, Japanese musical legends Yuzu, and performed on Music Station Super Live with YouTubers HIKAKIN & SEIKIN.

GUEST: Yoshitoshi ABe

Yoshitoshi ABe is known for his numerous works in graphic art, manga, anime, and video games including Serial Experiments Lain, TEXHNOLYZE, Lucika Lucika, and more. Most recently he’s worked as the character designer on the upcoming RErideD – Derrida, who leaps through time – anime, produced by Rie Ogura. 

GUEST: Rie Ogura

Rie Ogura’s anime career spans multiple series including KONOSUBA -God’s blessing on this wonderful world!, Kabukibu!, SUPER LOVERS, and Junjo Romantica 3. Ogura is currently producing the upcoming RErideD – Derrida, who leaps through time –, which features character designs by Yoshitoshi Abe.
