the way this season has two beautifully constructed and expertly carried out pc romances that feel like the characters were written exclusively with their counterpart in mind. very ridiculously long post ahead so buckle up.

we have the honorable war hero who feels outcast from his court because he acts so differently, he is lowborn but influential, wanting to help his court but is constantly being told to stay in the corner to continue to be used as the blunt instrument he is meant to be, and he still believes he should remain loyal to his court no matter how much they abuse him or use his successes and give him not even a thanks in return. and the diamond who is the perfect fey in every aspect but their appearance, or so they think. they are so embarrassed by their looks that they hide their true self for probably a few millennia, now learning that their court, that they were barely even a part of to begin with, is not as wondrous as they once thought. both so ashamed of themselves but fell in love with the other almost immediately. both now slowly learning “i can not be that bad, because you are just like i am” as they both begin to feel seen for likely the first time in their long lives. they love his every oddity and he firmly believes they can do no wrong. he makes them feel normal. and he is the only one with arms long enough to give them a proper hug.

then there’s the prince who is considered overemotional by their court, a place where love is seen as a weakness, he was unjustly punished for this by his own family with nearly constant humiliation. he spent their youth hiding themselves, and trying to feel less lonely in the dark, while simultaneously striving to be accepted by his court, and now they spend their time trying to seem stronger and more impressive than they really are. and the leader-by-default of their court, the only one remaining after their magic was stolen from them. her court was her family, her home. a place where magic was love and love was plentiful. and now they are alone and doing everything in her power to save, or at least avenge, their court. she is a fey of lost things he was lost and they found him and they became her knight. he swore to help them get justice for her court. she swore to rid them of the source of his humiliation if he desires. they were deemed worthy of the crystal heart but decided she deserved it more, just because he recognized their eyes. and she still has not told them that she knows what he did for them in that ungloved moment.

as brennan said in episode 7 of adventuring party: “a reflection is literally the opposite of something, right? so there are parts of our characters that are opposing, but in their opposition they are reflections of each other.” and i. am so normal about the four of them.

Emilia sat in the car, the driver opening the door for her and she took a deep breath. Once she stepped out and all eyes were on her, there would be no turning back. She didn’t hide it from social media, but all would know. Her life could be in more danger, but the amount of bodyguards she had, along with Lisette’s, they would well protected. 

The blonde slides out of the car, camera’s flashing in her direction and her hands smoothed over her growing belly and down the dress. We got this. Peyton was waiting for her and she didn’t like to keep people waiting. 

Each step she felt her confidence grow and the smile on her face widen. She was after all Emilia Lefebvre. She stopped at the top, letting a few pictures be taken of her before she stepped inside, letting out a breath of air. “I feel more relaxed away from the cameras.” She mutters to herself, letting her gaze drift around the room in awe, landing on someone a few feet from her. 

“This will be an interesting night.”

One might’ve thought after having to endure this very same shit-show without the aid of alcohol last time, she might’ve spared herself the suffering for a second time. 

Being pregnant was a blessing, but putting up with these assholes without the buffer of a few gin and tonics down her neck was worthy of award in itself. Jot it down for the next year, huh? Silas had split from her briefly to seek out one of his weird tech buddies further down the queue of people, and her best friend was seeking out enough champagne to sedate several normal human beings, leaving the politician muttering under her breath as she adjusted the train of her dress:

“Fuck me, I can’t believe I’m doing this thing sober again...”
