So, 've been playing Prince of Persia: Lost Crown. I'm like a quarter finished, just trying to get a feel for it. This thing is damn fun. It's also a lot more forgiving than other popular Metroidvanias I've played (not saying any names- Hollow Knight-), with a difficulty curve I expect will pick up soon, but which right now is thankfully, quite tame.

I can feel the Forest Queen fanart already. Hell, everyone here is aggressively hot. The fan-service here is sweltering.

My poor Ghassan. This is about to reawaken some Gilgamesh memories, isn't it?

Finally, a mainstream game with some good male armor.

You've come a long way, Prince of Persia, assuming there's no iron battle thongs in this one. I mean sort of.

I can't help but notice that our new sexy prince is a little... darker than the previous one.

And I would love it if I could just dismiss that thought as me just nitpicking, but the reality is black men have been subject to exotification for a very long time.

Which would be extra awkward in this case, given that it seems the look may have been inspired in no small part by Michael B Jordan as Killmonger in Black Panther (2018).

Lets hope that when its released, the game puts all concerns like that to rest.

Excuse u?? Not even 15 minutes into the gameplay, and they hit me with this???? How can you expect me not to ship it??????

In Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2003) the titular Prince gradually loses his clothing as it is damaged. First his hat, then his sleeves, then his shirt. I always found this delightful. It's a fairly common trope for the female action hero to gradually lose bits of her costume and have it be justified by damage and injury, but we don't give men this treatment as often. Sure he's got no shirt for sexy/cheesecake reasons, but he's also looking more beaten and bloodied as the game rolls on. He's getting more desperate. He's losing bits of himself. More skin equals more vulnerability.

Anyway, in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (2024), Sargon (player character, not the titular Prince, easy mistake to make) starts out with no shirt and extremely ripped abs. Fine, as an aesthetic choice, but losing your shirt hits way different than never having a shirt to lose, doesn't it?

I haven’t played PoP game since the 2008. I'm a fan of the series, the graphic novel, and of Ancient Persia history and the mythologies it brings. I can't wait to see what Sargon, the Immortals, and the devs bring.
