Anti-Rhaenyra
So, this is just what I would like to say to Rhaenyra supporters.
Rhaenyra isn't told by her father that he is secretly seeing her best friend and plans to marry her. When Rhaenyra found out that her father was going to marry her best friend Alicent, she insults her. She lies to her best friend about something she knows Alicent cares about. She sleeps with her uncle Daemon, who has by the way just killed her wife. She sleeps with Cristin Cole, a kingsgaurd who by the way has sworn:
I swear to ward the Queen with all my strength and give my blood for hers. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children.
This makes him feel like a sinner and he attempts suicide (I won't justify his actions since he should of course be held accountable for his actions as well). Then proceeds to sleep with Harwin strong and have kids with him. And expects to have them crowned after her death? She goes off to Dragonstone while her father is sick instead of taking care of him. Leaves Kings landing to her stepmother and half-siblings. Knowing very well that her oldest half-sibling Aegon ii is a boy with a legitimate heir and men are seen better fit for ruling. Because she wants everyone else to take care of her problems and then just enter kings landing and be crowned queen. Then when she finds out that her stepmother has crowned her half-brother after 24 hours which just shows how disconnected she is from kings landing, has a dramatic mental breakdown. 🙄
Summary: Rhaenyra is a spoiled brat and a daddy's girl and can't handle her problems.

What do you think of people shipping Alicent and Rhaenyra?
Ok. My feelings on the ship are…complicated.
I shipped it at the beginning, especially because Emily and Milly were intentionally playing their relationship to be tender, intimate, and subtly romantic.
As time has progressed though, the ship has become less alluring to me. And I don’t really ship it anymore. There’s multiple reasons for this: Alicent and Rhaenyra have less scenes together, the abuse Alicent has faced partly at the hands of Rhaenyra, and also Alicole is simply a better ship.
There’s a good basis for the ship. A lot of good scenes and callbacks (like Alicent keeping the page from the book and Rhaenyra shedding a tear after seeing it). And generally, I really do think that in a different world where selfish, power-hungry men didn’t abuse these two teenage girls…they could have something.
But after everything: Rhaenyra lying to Alicent and being mad at her for being a child bride, Rhaenyra threatening to torture Alicent’s child after he was maimed, and all the times Rhaenyra could’ve done something, anything to help her former friend and instead did nothing. It ruins the ship for me. Rhaenyra could’ve seen that Alicent was hurting, needed a friend or close confidant, and was genuinely trying to do her best. But instead she judged and lied to Alicent, and simply assumed Alicent was a bad person.
I get why people ship it. I do. There’s drama, chemistry, longing, and obvious love between their younger versions. But too much has happened for me to ship it. It’s too toxic at this point, and I don’t like Rhaenyra enough to ship her with Alicent.
So now, Alicole is my go to ship. Two people hurt by Rhaenyra who have spent decades together, caring for each other, defending each other, and loving each other. Criston is devoted to Alicent. He respects her, and loves her children. And Alicent cherishes him and relies on him. It’s a beautiful, pure, courtly love built on mutual understanding and appreciation, and that is what I can get behind.

i really don't get why people are saying that alicent and criston only bonded over their mutual hatred to rhaenyra.
their relationship has literally nothing to do with her.
they were both wronged, used and exploited by a targ only to be later dismissed and disposed of like trash. they are both outsiders - with alicent being a hightower queen and criston a lowborn dornish man, they're both religious and have a strong sense of justice and honor. they are the only people in the world that truly understand and appreciate each other.
in their first scene together, alicent invites criston to seat by her side - because, from the start, she saw his as her equal. she saved him from taking his own life, she was there for him in his darkest hour, she gave him a purpose and - in his eyes - offered him a way to restore his honor - the thing he values the most.
he becomes the father of her children, her fiercest protector. he would do everything for her. (daemyra could NEVER)
how can you look at their relationship and dismiss it as "he's only on her side because he's bitter" ? alicent is everything to criston. she saved him, she respects him, she gave him a family.

broke: criston only loves alicent because of his madonna whore complex that stems from his relationship with rhaenerya. he puts her on a pedestal and only cares about the idolised version of her that he has created in his head.
woke: criston loves alicent because they let each other be themselves and accept one another's flaws and insecurities. she saves him from suicide and he becomes a father figure to her neglected children. he protects her honour (something that wasn't done for him) and is the only person that stands by her without expecting anything in return. their love is something that was built over years of mutual trust and respect

Calling all besties to debate with me!
Hotd modern!au, what would Criston work with?
I particularly see him in something like military official or a firefighter, lieutenant or capitan, something that involves fighting and security of some sorts.
In the same au, what would Alicent do?
In my head, she probably would divorce and have to redo her life, she's very clever, and I believe that she well versed in history, culture, knows a little bit about language and dialects, so I see her as either a professor or a tourist guide, I totally can see her showing monuments and explaining it, and I also can see her doing a slide presentation and telling students to write an essay for next Tuesday.
I also think about the children, Aegon would totally try to drop out of high-school and give up college, furthermore as a way to help his mother after the divorce. However, Alicent would force him to finish school and tell him to get a half-period job (maybe in mctargaryen), but I think he would try to take care of his siblings so his mother wouldn't worry.
Helaena and Aemond would clean the house and attempt to make some food (pasta, that's a lazy home alone sibling food), and I picture they would fight over who's turn it is to change Daeron's diapper (he only begin to walk recently).
Anyway, tell me you guys opinions and hc, I need some ideas.

Alicent: Daeron, we need to talk about your last will. Daeron: What about it? Criston: Well, the only thing you wrote was ‘bury me with seven extra bones to fuck with archaeologists lmao’.

I want to amend this post, I need multiple things from Criston next season (and season 3, cause why not?) or I will be rioting (in no particular order, with various levels of angst/delulu-ness):
Calling all three of his boys "son" and similarly Helaena "daughter", that or his "sweet girl/boy" both would be preferable.
kissing his kids heads/foreheads. some instances could be; kissing Aegon's forehead as he carries him away from Rook's Rest. kissing Aemond's hair as he holds him outside of Aegon's chambers, his boy thinking he killed his brother. kissing Hel's temple when he visits his grandbabies (Hel angst coming later, savor this while you can).
Criston taking a private knee to Aegon, swearing to him like he had his mother, promising a duty that goes beyond what is expected of him.
comforting Helaena as she is plagued by dreams and prophecies.
playing with his grand kids.
sitting at Aegon's bedside while he heals.
Dad jokes.
bear hugging Daeron when he returns from Oldtown, lifting him all the way off the ground.
the dad "one armed hug shared in moments of fondness and laughter" thing, with Daeron.
Daeron and Criston sharing similar quirks and habits (not necessarily a conscious act by either party, but I still need it)
helping care for Aegon, being one of the few faces that keeps him some semblance of calm after everything, helping change bandages or sponge him clean. just soft moments of pained vulnerability and softness between a dad and his grievously injured eldest son.
praying for his children.
more... handsy... with Alicent, for lack of a better word. just soft comforting touches, like you would expect partners to share with each other. her family has been maimed, murdered, and/or sent to both battle and madness, let him comfort his (platonic) wife goddammit. let them hug actually, that's what I need, I need him to hug her.
sitting with Helaena and Jaehaera after B&C, trying to comfort them the best he can. Helaena going in and out of tears, sometimes she recognizes him, sometimes she doesn't. sometimes she is heartbroken beyond words, others she is angry. no matter what, he is there to protect her. give me a scene of him holding her as well, she needs it, she deserves a hug.
threatening Larys, especially if he pulls a stunt against Alicent like I think he might, knowing he can't kill him, that he's to much of an asset than they can risk going with out, but still hating him for what he does to his Queen. (see this post to understand what I mean by stunt)
embracing Aemond and Daeron, doing the forehead touch thing, each time they go separate ways, knowing any battle could be their last.
his last words being him begging Alicent and his kids to forgive him, apologizing for failing to protect them, for leaving them.
if we do get Afterlife scenes out of this hellish show, give me a scene of him reuniting with his grandkids, kids, and eventually his (platonic) wife. I'm begging.
putting aside a knife of his own to be given to Jaehaera if and when he passes, as a final means to protect her, even from the grave.
let him be emotional, in passing, when he's alone, let him shed a tear or two. I want to see the stress ooze from this man. I want to watch as the pain and death that follows his family breaks him down.
a clear difference between how he advises Aegon in front of the court and how advises him in private. risking a daggar in the throat on account of his son's blind rage and grief to protect his image amongst the court, but sharing a similar blood lust when it comes to avenging his daughter and grandchildren.
at least one shot of him standing with one of his kids' dragons.
just give me Criston being a good dad and (platonic) husband.

Alicole.
I'm obsessed over dynamics like this since I've watched MYK (like, Kösem and Kemankeş, uk 😭😭😭) and keep being silent is just too much.
Firstly, and again I'm sad about how much wasted potential HotD does have. Chemistry between Fabien and Olivia, situations, that Criston and Alicent appear in, — we have minimum of that, but it was enough for Alicole having my heart. Such a pity that scenario was written by baked freudist imbeciles, and events are unfolding too fast, cause there is so little of episodes. Alicole might be gorgeous UST slowburn. Just Imagine. I'd give everything to watch their trust becoming stronger, how they're finding support in each other, how Alicent feels more and more lonely and unhappy in her marriage, losing her friend (Rhaenyra), and how at the same time Criston becomes the closest to her. She can trust him, tell about her troubles, so does he. He remembers that she saved him from death and always gonna remember. She became the beacon of hope, the light in the darkness, she became everything. They became everything to each other.
Consistent development of relationships. Slowly burning warmth in the chest. I. Want. To. See. It.
Secondly, — another thought that's not connected with the previous one, — I can't see Alicole relationships in any way but platonic. Imho, the physical inaccessibility is something that somehow raises them in each other's eyes. In addition, I guess, for some reason, that both Alicent and Criston think, that sex is nasty, at some point. Because of negative past experience, maybe? In brief, they would not like it 👎 And the intimacy would ruin the aesthetics of UST, of course.
Alicole is too good for this world.

People be like “Alicole shippers are delusional !” And the showrunners wanted them to have a romance and there is electricity between them .And young Alicent had a crush on him .
i'm sorry it took me so long to answer !
alicole is script canon ;) and even before s1 script was leaked, their connection and attraction were always very visible to me.

he will kill for her. he will die for her. he will do anything for her. people hate on alicole for being the least problematic ship in this fandom.

Putting an end to the debate ,everyone ships what they want (i just hope you don't romaticise abusive things) ,Alicent loves her kids more than Nyra ,Alicole is valid as a ship ,Rhaenicent and Lesbian! Alicent is valid too even though the latter is an hc ,just don't call people homphobes ,Olivia Cooke did nothing wrong and is entitled to her own opinion and people are entitled to (respectfully) disagree.
And Alicent is her own person ,no matter who you ship her with.

“Ballerinas are seen as soft and elegant, but no one understands the perseverance it takes to be those things.”
Tumblr media
.
~ The other dancers at the prestigious dance company Alicent Hightower works for look at her with jealousy. What must it be like to be the company’s top ballerina? They have no idea just how hard it was for Alicent to achieve what she has.
~ As a young, single mom to her one daughter Helaena, Alicent has had to sacrifice a lot over the years to get to where she is. As the lead in the companies production of Swan Lake, Alicent has nothing but her own blood, sweat, and tears to thank for her achievements. That, and her wonderful young daughter, who has cheered her mummy on from the time she was a toddler, and her neighbor Criston, who’s babysat many hours for Alicent and has never asked for anything in return.
~ But tonight is the opening night of this season’s Swan Lake. As fellow dancers, extras, and stage hands whirl around her, Alicent, in full hair, makeup, and costume, takes a deep breath and gazes out into the audience from the wings. There in the first few rows is an excited Helaena sitting on the lap of Criston Cole, who’s smiling along with her. They can’t see Alicent but the sight of them makes her smile, and gives her the last push of confidence she needs in the next few minutes as the orchestra begins to play and she makes her way out onto the stage.
