I never thought actually posting would be so hard but here we are 😬🙃
I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things since peachtober is starting soon and I'm really excited for it but I'm also so tired and doing just the bare minimum is exhausting 😴

Finally got around to editing the video of trying out the first ProArte brush set I won from Jacksons Art Supplies last month 🥰✨ I'm impressed by how fine of a point the round brush has & am curious to see how it'll hold up over time. The flat brush started shedding a couple hairs a few minutes into painting which 😐 I guess is fine as long as it won't shed anymore 👀🙃 All in all, these are really nice brushes (very pretty as well!) but they probably won't become my new absolute favorites 😬

New painting setup! I now have a dedicated space to paint with Rebelle!
I scored a really good deal on 2 used proart monitors for $250 last year. Turns out the second one is brand new! Converted an occasionally used desk for PC art creation. Removing the friction of setting it all up just to paint and having to put it all away again.

I saw this post a little bit ago but I ended up losing it. It was the one where someone talked about black/white washing in JP art.
To be honest, the complete harassment (which I have seen more times than I have seen people be slightly respectful) of those who draw characters even a shade too light makes me not want to be an artist. The passive aggressive comments about using the eyed dropper tool still forgets that if someone is learning how to draw a non pure (I mean like this character is a white chalk stick) white character than learning how to shade with that said tool is still hard and people are going to do it wrong. Not to mention that i have seen more advice from artists saying to get good at eyeballing the colors rather than relying on that tool. If a person is going to be told to end their life over not having the 100000000000% exact shade (fuck lighting, fuck literally the scenery, fuck the whole context of the art) then why bother listening to the advice of artists you’re learning from. I’ve seen comments (even on twitter) telling artists that they’re racists pieces of shit over not drawing a literal humanized cookie the right color.
Congratulations, FUCK DRAWING “NON WHITE” CHARACTERS. The harassment campaign over giving content to a decent character isn’t worth the bullshit. I can’t fault any artist for not drawing them either.
And the “why won’t you draw black characters” that I’ve literally seen some people be harassed with or “if you can’t draw a black character then you’re a shit artist.” No, shit for brains, I don’t think anyone wants to be harassed by the likes of you because you literally come at art with a fucking eye dropper tool and ignore the bright ass spotlight on the damn character. Then you make full ass callouts because then you attack the artist and screenshot their responses out of context to make them look more racist than they are.
If there is a proart side of this conversation, then I am that. I think we should not HARASS artists for ANY art. Don’t fucking come at me with bullshit. If it’s okay to make Mulan a black woman, then it’s god damn fine that Obey Me Diavolo isn’t that exact fucking eye drop code you picked from whatever canon art you deemed was the “correct” skin color. for people scared of drawing art (and sharing it) because of this bullshit campaign, there is no difference between it. I can draw whatever white character black and be praised for it, but if I don’t draw them “right” then it’s completely acceptable to tell me to end my life. FUCK YOU. FUCK DRAWING THOSE CHARACTERS.
I hope people who spends their time harassing others with the damn eye drop tool suddenly suffers from having NO (absolutely NONE) content with non white characters. If you can’t be respectful, make every character the pastiest fucking white there is, make it this unrealistic white. If you can’t be good, you don’t get any.
This is why I very rarely will post my human art online. The art community is a toxic cesspool.

My Further Submission Opinions
500 Follower Celebration
Part 111
And once again, my vague criteria:
Intent. Were they meant to be sexy, scary, neutral, etc?
Species. Human, animal, alien, robot, object, other? Does it pass the Harkness test?
Context. Good or evil? How does the narrative relate to their design
Popular opinion. Did this create a big debate amongst mainstream media and audiences? Did people come to a consensus?

the yoga pro 9i is definitely not as nice as the macbook pro 16. good device for the price I'm sure but it's just a step down in polish
the proart p16 really is that good. really interesting comparing it to its gaming-oriented sister. I do notice and want the higher resolution on the proart
I think I made the laptop guy's day

hello animatedjen!! I hope your day has been beautiful 🧡 I've recently moved into an apartment and have decided to get a gaming monitor for my PS5, so I can game at my desk and save some space while still enjoying photo mode sessions. if I remember correctly you play Jedi on PC, so maybe my question for you isn't relevant, but is there a monitor you use & like or would recommend for this purpose? I know these things are expensive and you seemed like a good person to ask about getting my investment right the first time around! especially since I would also use it for professional photo & video editing on occasion, and I know that's relevant to your career field as well. any advice you have on making a flexible set up would be so appreciated! thank you in advance!! I hope this question isn't too bothersome! P.S. I want you to know that you're a micro celebrity amongst my coworker friends because they see your photo mode shots rotate as my desktop wallpapers all day every day haha 😅
Tumblr media
Congrats on the apartment!! And I'm very honored to be your work desktop wallpaper 💛 Respawn should be giving you a referral bonus!
Right now I'm using a Gigabyte QHD 34" ultrawide gaming monitor I got secondhand. Good specs for the price, but it's not super color accurate when compared to my Macbook retina screen - it could be calibrated more via software or a physical tool, but for now I use the monitor for gaming, general life stuff, and pre-color editing. I have a DP cable for the PC and HDMI for the Macbook or PS5, so it's easy to switch between devices.
The ultrawide aspect ratio also means I crop my photomode shots to 16:9 to post on socials, since 21:9 photos are very skinny (see above) and people often scroll Tumblr on their small, vertically-oriented phone screens. On the plus side, it's great for video editing since I can see more of the timeline at once. And no black bars during Jedi Survivor cutscenes!
Tumblr media
You'll have to decide your budget and what specs are most important to you for photo/video work - I'd recommend a screen somewhere between 24" and 34", with QHD (2K) or UHD (4K) resolution. A higher refresh rate (at least 60hz, if not 120/144/240hz) helps for gaming and video with higher framerates. Color accuracy is tricky, but if you're not creating high-end photo prints or color grading for Netflix, something good (but not perfect) will be just fine. Some monitors will be better for gaming, and some better for photo/video editing, so decide which one to prioritize.
I've seen ASUS ProArt, Dell UltraSharp, and BenQ monitors recommended when I've shopped around before, but I skew towards non-gamer, Mac-friendly tech since more of my client work is on that system and the Jedi stuff is (sadly) not my paid job (yet). But if any other gamer/creative professionals want to drop recs in the comments, y'all probably know more than I do! 🙌
Thanks for the ask and sorry I can't be more helpful. Look forward to seeing the photomode shots from your new monitor :)
