I’m thinking about Mahito’s great great uncle maintaining and preserving a peaceful and beautiful thing in a way that to an outside observer looks tedious and unimportant, hoping to pass the duty off to a successor but ultimately he cannot find one and dies with it.
I’m thinking about the specificity of the blocks being made and handled with care, not with malice or ill intent.
I’m thinking about Hayao Miyazaki, a bastion of beautiful 2d hand drawn animation who refuses to retire.
I’m thinking about a world where animation is so rarely made with love over profit and efficiency.
I’m thinking about how, though the old man didn’t see it, the next generation still hangs onto a piece of that beautiful, tedious thing and takes it with them because it feels important.
I’m thinking about Mahito being told he should forget, but no. He shouldn’t.

monkey man promo interviews r just like oh yeah dev patel broke multiple bones during the action scenes and he simply shoved a screw into his hand and moved on and the sets kept burning down and the cameras were malfunctioning and we spent half a year editing a segment in a scene and we were trapped in an island for months and the crew was marrying n divorcing each other in total soap opera fashion but whatever we made it because if there's a will there's a way <3

Meanwhile, in the photographic darkroom of GhostChasers Magazine, just as Gilly was processing another roll of infrared film from a recent assignment
[At any rate, Gilly, the intrepid photographer, was getting another photograph from processing out of the way, only to discover--]
GILLY, stunned at the revelation: Is it just me, or have I stumbled upon a serious extraworldly discovery--that there must be a second ghost in addition to the one we were looking for?!

Saw someone say on twitter „luke experienced subdrop and needed aftercare“ and I haven’t stopped thinking about this video/interview/comment bc I REALLY hope the producers are aware how much their actors are doing for this show and are taking proper care of them (e.g. having competent intimacy coordinators).

Just found out about the tiktok Goncharov rip off and honestly the thing that bothers me the most is that it’s called Zepotha. Like who would name an obscure 80’s slasher film like that one reddit cockroach wife and not something like “Clown Castle Massacre” like do these people know how slashers work??? Do you hate fun??

Hello! Just want to say that I'm one of the people whose mind was blown on finding out you were a writer on Barbie: Fairytopia, Thank you for contributing to a big part of my childhood! I'm really curious, though: how much of your work was there in the final version of the film? Did you come up with the basic plotline (a wingless fairy goes on a heroic quest), or was that already built in before you were hired?
There was quite a lot of my work in there! Bear in mind, I wrote the bible for the world as a whole, before beginning work on the screenplay. It'd have taken some work to keep me out. :)
And that said: they didn't want to keep me out. I can't think offhand of any US-based TV or film work I've done that reminded me so strongly of what it was like, in the early/mid 1980s, to work with the BBC (on the BBC Education series "Science Challenge"). Both they and Mattel had this bizarre idea: "What would it be like to hire a writer who was good at a specific thing, and then just, you know, let them get on with writing it?"
Working with Mattel was very much like that. They hired you on the basis of your known-and-demonstrated expertise, told you what they needed, and then stepped back and let you get on with it. It was extraordinarily pleasant.
As for the movie proper: I laid out and outlined* the best plot as I saw it... because if you've got a wingless fairy in the universe I'd been asked to codify, what else do you do besides send her off on a quest? As BBC!Sherlock would say, "Doesn't seem like much of a reach." :) ...As soon as Mattel saw the outline, they signed off on it and I got busy. IIRC, I had the OK from them on the outline in late January / early February of that year, and had finished my draft in March or thereabouts. (Might have been sooner: I'd have to check my files.) ...After that they asked Elise Allen in to polish my draft, and Barbie: Fairytopia went to the animators.
So as regards details on Fairytopia process: hope this helps! :)
*Because this is how it goes in film: there is no pantsing. No one hires you to sit around in hopes that the right idea will just eventually and fortuitously descend on you from above and pull everything together. Your production partners need to pretty much immediately see on paper what you're going to do before they okay you to keep going with work, and to be paid for that step of the process. So if you're a film writer, you almost instantly become an outliner. It's how you stay in sync with the fellow professionals working on your project... and how you get to keep eating. :)

Child Actors Aqua and Kana on the occasion of season 2.
I imagine that if everything didn't go downhill with Ai, Aqua and Kana would have been able to act in more films together and maybe be paired together in more projects. And an actual childhood friend relationship would be real nice.
