Amazon's bestselling "bitter lemon" energy drink was bottled delivery driver piss
Tumblr media
Today (Oct 20), I'm in Charleston, WV at Charleston's Taylor Books from 12h-14h.
Tumblr media
For a brief time this year, the bestselling "bitter lemon drink" on Amazon was "Release Energy," which consisted of the harvested urine of Amazon delivery drivers, rebottled for sale by Catfish UK prankster Oobah Butler in a stunt for a new Channel 4 doc, "The Great Amazon Heist":
https://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-great-amazon-heist
Collecting driver piss is surprisingly easy. Amazon, you see, puts its drivers on a quota that makes it impossible for them to drive safely, park conscientiously, or, indeed, fulfill their basic human biological needs. Amazon has long waged war on its employees' kidneys, marking down warehouse workers for "time off task" when they visit the toilets.
As tales of drivers pissing – and shitting! – in their vans multiplied, Amazon took decisive action. The company enacted a strict zero tolerance policy for drivers returning to the depot with bottles of piss in their vans.
That's where Butler comes in: the roads leading to Amazon delivery depots are lined with bottles of piss thrown out of delivery vans by drivers who don't want to lose their jobs, which made harvesting the raw material for "Release Energy" a straightforward matter.
Butler was worried that he wouldn't be able to list his product on Amazon because he didn't have the requisite "food and drinks licensing" certificates, so he listed his drink in Amazon's refillable pump dispenser category. But Amazon's systems detected the mismatch and automatically shifted the product into the drinks section.
Butler enlisted some confederates to place orders for his drink, and it quickly rocketed to the top of Amazon's listings for the category, which led to Amazon's recommendation engine pushing the item on people who weren't in on the gag. When these orders came in, Butler pulled the plug, but not before an Amazon rep telephoned him to pitch him turning packaging, shipping and fulfillment over to Amazon:
https://www.wired.com/story/amazon-let-its-drivers-urine-be-sold-as-an-energy-drink/
The Release Energy prank was just one stunt Butler pulled for his doc; he also went undercover at an Amazon warehouse, during a period when Amazon hired an extra 1,000 workers for its warehouses in Coventry, UK, in a successful bid to dilute pro-union sentiment in his workforce in advance of a key union vote:
https://jacobin.com/2023/10/the-great-amazon-heist-oobah-butler-review
Butler's stint as an Amazon warehouse worker only lasted a couple of days, ending when Amazon recognized him and fired him.
The contrast between Amazon's ability to detect an undercover reporter and its inability to spot bottles of piss being marketed as bitter lemon energy drink says it all, really. Corporations like Amazon hire vast armies of "threat intelligence" creeps who LARP at being CIA superspies, subjecting employees and activists to intense and often illegal surveillance.
But while Amazon's defensive might is laser-focused on the threat of labor organizers and documentarians, the company can't figure out that one of its bestselling products is bottles of its tormented drivers' own urine.
In the USA, the FTC is suing Amazon for its monopolistic tactics, arguing that the company has found ways to raise prices and reduce quality by trapping manufacturers and sellers with its logistics operation, taking $0.45-$0.51 out of every dollar they earn and forcing them to raise prices at all retailers:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/04/25/greedflation/#commissar-bezos
The Release Energy stunt shows where Amazon's priorities are. Not only did Release Energy get listed on Amazon without any quality checks, the company actually nudged it into a category where it was more likely to be consumed by a person. The only notice the company took of Release Energy was in its logistics and manufacturing department – the part of the business that extracts the monopoly rents at issue in the FTC case – which tracked Butler down in order to sell him these services.
The drivers whose piss Butler collected don't work directly for Amazon, they work for a Delivery Service Partner. These DSPs are victims of a pyramid scheme that Amazon set up. DSP operators lease vans and pay to have them skinned in Amazon livery and studded with Amazon sensors. They take out long-term leases on depots, and hire drivers who dress in Amazon uniforms. Their drivers are minutely monitored by Amazon, down to the movements of their eyeballs.
But none of this is "Amazon" – it's all run by an "entrepreneur," whom Amazon can cut loose without notice, leaving them with unfairly terminated employees, outstanding workers' comp claims, a fleet of Amazon-skinned vehicles and unbreakable facilities leases:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/04/17/revenge-of-the-chickenized-reverse-centaurs/
Speaking to Wired, Amazon denied that it forces its drivers to piss in bottles, but Butler clearly catches a DSP dispatcher telling drivers "If you pee in a bottle and leave it [in the vehicle], you will get a point for that" – that is, the part you get punished for isn't the peeing, it's the leaving.
Amazon's defense against the FTC is that it spares no effort to keep its marketplace safe. As Amazon spokesperson James Drummond says, they use "industry-leading tools to prevent genuinely unsafe products being listed." But the only industry-leading tools in evidence are tools to bust unions and screw suppliers.
In her landmark Yale Law Review paper, "Amazon's Antitrust Paradox," FTC Chair Lina Khan makes a brilliant argument that Amazon's alleged benefits to "consumers" are temporary at best, illusory at worst:
https://www.yalelawjournal.org/note/amazons-antitrust-paradox
In Butler's documentary, Khan's hypothesis is thoroughly validated: here's a company extracting hundreds of billions from merchants who raise prices to compensate, and those monopoly rents are "invested" in union-busting and countermeasures against investigative journalists, while the tools to keep you from accidentally getting a bottle of piss in the mail are laughably primitive.
Truly, Amazon is the apex predator of the platform era:
https://pluralistic.net/ApexPredator
Tumblr media
If you'd like an essay-formatted version of this post to read or share, here's a link to it on pluralistic.net, my surveillance-free, ad-free, tracker-free blog:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/10/20/release-energy/#the-bitterest-lemon
Tumblr media
My next novel is The Lost Cause, a hopeful novel of the climate emergency. Amazon won't sell the audiobook, so I made my own and I'm pre-selling it on Kickstarter!

In today’s global development newsletter presented by the International Monetary Fund (“IMF”), Devex’s Newswire highlighted the UN’s high cost of reform.  Its newsletter states the following.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres recentlylaunched a new reform initiative, dubbed UN80. According to an internal memo, sent by the UN comptroller, it’s “an ambitious effort to ensure that the United Nations is fit for purpose to support twenty-first century multilateralism, reduce human suffering and build better lives and futures for all.” That’s all well and good, but being “fit for purpose” actually translates into some serious downsizing for the UN in the face of potentially steep US cuts. Specifically, Guterres is seeking to eliminate 20% of jobs across the UN Secretariat, which employs some 35,000 people, and to make a 20% reduction to the UN’s regular budget, which covers essential programmes and administration costs, and is currently set at just under $3.7 billion for 2026. The internal memo instructed that by 13 June, dozens of senior UN officials need to report on how they can achieve the proposed cuts in their departments. It acknowledged the “aggressive timelines” of this “collective effort.”

“Hypocrisy is the audacity to preach integrity from a den of corruption" - Wes Fester
Yesterday I highlighted the hypocrisy of Reform UK and Nigel Farage regarding public sector pensions.
The average public sector pension varies according to the particular scheme, length of service, and pension contributions. The Local Government Pension Scheme (more of this later) pays out between £5000 and £6000 per year while teachers receive between "£11,000-£12,000 per annum. Retired NHS staff typically receive "£7000 -£12,000 per year.
These figures are paltry compared to Nigel Farage's annual pension from the EU of £73,000.
Reform UK has describes public sector "gold plated" pension schemes as bankrupting the country and they are determined to bring these schemes to an end.
Richard Tice, former Tory donor and now Deputy Leader of Reform UK, has proposed moving all public sector workers onto defined contribution schemes, which shift investment risk from the employer to the employee. He’s also targeted council pensions specifically, suggesting that new recruits should not be enrolled in defined benefit plans and that existing staff might receive lower pay rises to offset pension costs.
Cue the "resignation" of Zia Yusuf, former Chairman of Reform UK. Yusuf's resignation lasted 2 days after which he rejoined the party as leader of Reform UK's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)
Yusuf cited "exhaustion" as his reason for resigning, but after a glass of lucozade and two days with his feet up, he was fully recovered and full of renewed political zeal. If not exactly wielding a chainsaw, he is determined to cut local authority waste just like his much admired role model, Elon Musk. Like Musk, Yusuf believes in "disruptive efficiency", an aggressive streamlining of local authority services, departments and personnel.
In the USA Musk’s purge of government personnel saw some federal government departments suffer a 10% reduction in their workforce. If Yusuf follows the same pattern then one in ten council workers can expect to lose their jobs.
In the UK the broader public sector workforce is just over 6 million. If the newly invigorated Yusuf follows Musk, then Reform UK is hoping to make over half a million workers unemployed in the name of "disruptive efficiency". 60-70% of those workers have dependent families, so the cost of making half a million public sector workers redundant may well exceed any savings the sackings are meant to facilitate, in increased welfare payments, unless of course they wish to slash these also.
If this wasn’t bad enough, it has been suggested that the REAL reason Reform UK are so interested in public sector pension pots is it gives Reform UK access to tens of billions of pounds.
According to the Financial Times, Reform UK by
"…controlling some councils pretty much translates into control of their pension funds." (Gauging Reform UK's pension power": 19/05/25)
The FT goes on to estimate that Reform UK will have majority control of 4 pension committees, overseeing £29.2bn, and a controlling plurality on a further 5 pension committees, over seeing £25bm.  In total, the FT calculates that Reform UK will have an influential vote on 18 public employee pension schemes, collectively worth more than £100bn.
Is the real reason Zia Yusuf "resigned" so he could rejoined as DODGE Czar in charge of how the money in these employee pension schemes could be diverted Reform UK's way? After all, Zia Yusuf is a successful businessman and by all accounts a whiz-kid organiser. When Yusuf resigned, so did Nathaniel Fried who was heading up Reform UK’s DOGE programme. . With Fried out of the way, Yusuf was free to become the new head of DOGE.
Obviously we will have to wait and see what Yusuf and DOGE do concerning their newfound access to billions worth of pension funds, but we have some clues.
Tice has complained that "woke net-zero-obsessed" pension investments deliver "woeful returns". He suggests worker pension funds should be managed more aggressively and investing in ventures with higher returns ( but also higher risk of failure.)
What Tice is advocating has striking echoes with the kind of arguments made by parts of the financial sector before the crash of 2008, pushing for higher returns through aggressive investment strategies while downplaying the risks. What could possibly go wrong?

Notes on Hamilton International Tour (Manila, Oct 28, 2023 matinee)
No list of who specifically in the cast was on for the day, the programme only had the full cast list.
Act 1 notes
-Deep voices, deep voices everywhere
-They kept the “Laurens I like you a lot” line for international!
-I love the lighting! Some of the lights even create polygons
-Laurens was so drunk by the start of the toast
-Angelica had such a pretty voice
-Everyone enjoyed the King. YBB was delivered in such an angry incel kind of way
-“I’m so blue” *the King stomps and the lighting turns blue*
-The transitions during the wedding and toast are so beautiful and smooth, it almost felt magical
-DOUBLE SPINNING FLOOR
-Burr’s “How does a—-“ narrations really reek of his jealousy
-Desr Theodosia was so so good, mmm the vocals
-Some USA-specific references weren’t that understood by the audience, understandably
-Washington’s voice is so perfect for the role, I love him.
-The war scenes were so well choreographed I loved them!
-I can sometimes hear undertones of the actors trying to approximate the OBC’s voices, especially with some of Alexander’s lines
Act 2 notes
-Jefferson had no drawl (he had some tiny French accent as Laf tho)
-Sally didn’t show the letter near Jefferson, instead she held it above her head like she wanted Jefferson to work for it to read
-“Whatever the hell it is you do at MON-TI-TELLO!”
-“These ~VIRGINIAUUUGHNS~ are birds of a feather!”
-Philip was as fun as usual, and also he’s taller than his dad
-“Angelica tell my wife Vice President’s not a real job anyway” earned a lot of laughs because we currently have a shitty VP (Look up “Sara Duterte Confidential Funds”)
-Say No To This, oh boy (They kept all the scenes for international!)
-Congress is fighting over where to put the capital: “GEORGIA!”
-Daddy’s calling got a lot of laughs
-The King was as insane as ever, shifting from sad to angry to jolly. What Comes Next was fun
-That was my wife you decided to fuuu- got laughs
-The Philip death arc still brought me to tears even if I already listened to it a million times before
-Someone said out loud “Aaron Burr is a loser!” after election of 1800
-“Weehawken” became “Jersey”
-I love the choreography during Ham’s duel monologue, it was so creatively done
-WLWDWTYS was Emotional for sure
Thoughts
The overall pacing was really like as if you were listening on a music app, save for some instrumental interludes and some lines of dialogue. Some of the songs had parts that were slowed down for some actors’ own spins, such as the Laf/Jeff actor going a bit slower in some of the lines.
Admittedly the Angelica actress overshadowed Eliza a bit but tbh it kinda fits, with her being the “leader” amongst the three.
Overall it was a magical experience, and the seven-year wait really paid off. I have been a big fan of Hamilton since I was in high school, and now I’m on my last year of university. It really felt so rewarding to be able to watch this.
This cast was composed of actors from varying places, mostly Australian and American. I really recommend checking out this international tour as they were really a blast to watch, and definitely live up to—even exceed—expectations. Their next stop after November is Singapore iirc.

Study in Ireland for Indian students: 17 Benefits
Ireland is the best destination for Indian students due to its top universities, affordable 1-year master’s programmes, and 2-year post-study work visas. These are just a few reasons out of many that Ireland has to offer you.
Below are the benefits why an MS in Ireland or MBA in Ireland is lucrative and will be life-altering. Notably, as an Indian student, you get several advantages.
Some benefits grace you even before you start your journey!
1. You don’t require a GRE score…
You can still study at Irish universities such as Trinity and UCD. Irish universities, which are in the same league as the US universities, which accept Indian students even without a GRE score.
Isn’t this appealing enough to apply to study in Ireland as an Indian student?
Hence, to get into an Irish university, Indian students require an excellent academic record and scores on one of these tests – IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, and Duolingo.
GRE & GMAT is not required by almost all Irish universities (UCD & TCD may ask for GMAT scores for their MBA degrees).
2. English Language Proficiency Training
All English-speaking countries expect their international students to be well-versed in English, as does Ireland.
But aren’t your English proficiency test scores suitable enough to secure admission?
Not to worry. Irish universities offer Pre-sessional English language programs. These short-term courses are designed to help you gain the skills needed to prepare for exams like IELTS, TOEFL, DET, and PTE.
3. How much study gap is acceptable in Ireland?
The answer is…
Study gaps don’t matter for Irish universities!
As long as you can explain the gap between your last academic year and the time of application, you are as good as any other person without a study gap.
Various reasons, such as employment, vacation, health issues, and business ventures, can be used to explain your study gap. You can provide these reasons in your Statement of Purpose.
Sarem Education will help Indian students with their Statements Of Purpose to study in Ireland.
4. Cost of studying in Ireland is lower for Indian students
Compared to studying in the USA, UK, and Australia, an MS degree in Ireland costs less.
Cost of study in Ireland for Indian students:
Place of study EUROS INR
Universities 12,000 to 36,000 9,97,000 to 28,89,000
Institute of Technology 12,000 to 17,000 9,97,000 to 13,63,000
Colleges 13,000 to 15,000 10,80,000 to 12,00,000
Tuition fee is the most significant cost component, while other expenses like accommodation, student visa, medical insurance, and the like typically cost between €7,000 (5 to 9 lakhs) to €12,000 per year.
There are also independent colleges in Ireland where Indian students can study for lesser fees.
Provided you have the necessary work experience, colleges such as Dublin Business School, Griffith College Dublin, and National College of Ireland should be a sweet deal!
Consultancies do love adhering to “get rich overnight schemes” by giving Indian students the aforementioned options to study in Ireland. However, we do not do that here.
Here is some honest information. Freshers would find it daunting to land a job after graduation from these places. So, apply here at your own risk.
However, experienced candidates should be able to land a job thanks to their experience.
With a part-time job or a paid internship, you can further reduce your expenses to study at an Irish university. We advise that you search for the right one where you can balance your studies with your part-time work.
Just ensure you don’t do anything you will regret on your academic side.
5. Study in Ireland for Indian students: Scholarships
Here is a list of scholarships available for students looking to study in Ireland.
Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships Programme, sponsored by the Higher Education Authority (HEA)
The Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme
Scholarships by the Irish Research Council for Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS)
About 60 students get this scholarship which pays them 10,000 euros per year. These Ireland scholarships make life extremely easy for Indian students.
6. The 3 benefits of studying 1-year masters in Ireland
Undoubtedly, Indian students are constantly under pressure to settle down quickly. Studying a 1-year Master’s program at an Irish university can help you alleviate this.
You can fast-forward your dreams of graduating with an MS degree and happily settle abroad sooner than your counterparts in other countries!
Let us enlist and explain the benefits below:
Return to the workforce with world-class skills sooner: Sometimes, students take a 1-year leave to finish their degree and resume work with their previous employer. This is possible if you do a Masters in Ireland. Moreover, a 1-year break for education will also be less harsh on your resume. You can also join the workforce sooner and ease off your loans.
Costs Less: Compared to a 2-year course, studying for a 1-year Masters in Ireland is cheaper. A shorter duration means you pay lesser rent, living expenses, etc.
Resume: In any Master’s course in Ireland, you must complete 90 credits within a year. Inevitably, you will be putting in tons of hard work throughout the year. Consequently, this can bode well for your resume.
7. 100% visa approval
Ireland and India faced the brunt and after-effects of British imperialism and colonization in the 1900s.
Now, both countries share cordial relations owing to which there is less than a 5% chance for your visa to get rejected for Indian students to study in Ireland.
Not impressed?
DAVID FLOOD, Director, India, and South Asia, Enterprise Ireland, shares an impressive stat. The Irish visa approval rate for Indian students has grown by over 95% in the last 5 years.
So what happens to Indian students after they come to study in Ireland?
8. Globally Ranking Universities
Did you know securing admission to Irish universities would allow you to study at one of the top-ranked universities globally? Five universities in Ireland rank within the top 500 globally, and three are within the top 1000.
Trinity College, University College Dublin, University College Cork, University of Galway, University of Limerick, Dublin City University, Maynooth University, and Technological University Dublin are the universities on the list.
9. Highly quality education
The International Graduate Insight Group (i-graduate) found that students pursuing an MS degree in Ireland reported high student satisfaction with their academic experience.
Of course! Why wouldn’t they?
All MS degrees in Ireland are one year in duration. You will be prepared to enter the workforce within one year.
Irish universities and institutions are globally renowned for their programs in Science, Technology, Maths, Teaching, Medicine, Business, and Finance, accredited and recognized worldwide.
Most importantly, the tuition fee is way cheaper to study in Ireland for Indian students than in other top destinations.
Also, Irish universities are ranked among the best in the world regarding gender equality and climate action as per Times Higher Education’s (THE) university impact rankings.
10. Part-time opportunities in Ireland while studying
During their study in Ireland, Indian students can work for up to 20 hours a week.
According to labour statistics, Ireland has more than 400,000 people employed part-time. As regional investment grows and new businesses pop up, part-time jobs shall also grow steadily.
Irish universities also offer teaching assistant positions where students can assist professors with their academic commitments and get paid for them.
Indian students studying in Ireland will be allowed to work 40 hours per week only from June to September & from 15th December to 15th January inclusive. At all other times, students will be allowed to work 20 hours per week while they study.
11. Hub for global corporations
Ireland’s technological ambience is nothing to be scoffed at.
Ireland houses more than 1000 multinational companies, mainly because of Ireland‘s liberal FDI policies and ease of doing business. This opens doors for talent across the world.
Many of these MNCs seek MS degree holders from Irish universities in areas like Artificial Intelligence, ICT, telecom and life sciences.
Several companies – like Google, Facebook, Airbnb, Roche, Abbott, and others – have their European headquarters in Ireland. There are several hundreds of internships for fresher Indian students studying in Ireland.
Down the road, this ups their chances of securing full-time employment.
12. Safe, friendly, party and quality of lifestyle
Consumed by excitement while applying for a Masters, one would leave caution to the wind and fail to read about the destination’s attitude towards international students.
And while Ireland’s windy climate
is often chided for being unfriendly, the locals are super sweet. Indian students in Ireland feel very safe and peaceful, and their study period is a heavenly experience.
Still, undecided to study in Ireland as an Indian student? Contact us so that we can help you connect with alumni.
13. Rich Culture and Heritage
You can earn a 360-degree, fulfilling experience from your education abroad only if you read and imbibe academic papers and the culture around you.
If you are a bookworm, a history buff, or a culture enthusiast, don’t look further into the West than Ireland.
The best part about studying in a European country is that every country is different from the others; in terms of architecture, history, race, music, etc.
Ireland is not just well known for its education but also for reasons like these as well.
Dublin, the capital of the Emerald Isle, is a popular tourist destination filled with parks, museums, and statues paying homage to literary laureates such as Oscar Wilde, Joyce Meyer, etc. Pubs that are about a 1000-year-old grace the ever-alive city centre.
Festivals such as Halloween and St. Patrick’s Day originated in Ireland.
Studying in Ireland for Indian students will be thrilling for those who like to travel to various places and capture the green garlands of nature with their photography skills.
Also, are you familiar with these famous movies- Harry Potter, Star Wars, P.S. I Love You, and Game of Thrones?
All of these films had scenes filmed in Ireland. Ireland’s landscapes breathe life into the dormant desi travel bug in you.
Ireland’s West Coast throngs with breathtaking sceneries, docks, rocky coastlines, and castles. Be sure to check out these places while pursuing your M.S. degree in Ireland.
14. A growing, dynamic Indian community in Ireland
In 2011, The Irish Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, aimed at attracting the 100,000 Indian students moving abroad for their higher studies every year into Ireland’s workforce.
Consequently, between 2013-2017, Ireland saw a 45% increase in international students entering Ireland.
As of 2015, about 26,000 Indians reside in Ireland, of whom about 9,000 are second-generation Indians. They occupy roles in healthcare (doctors and nurses), IT, engineering, and senior management positions.
According to DBEI (Department of Business, Enterprise, and Innovation), the majority of work permits were obtained by Indian students than any other nationality in various fields such as IT, ICT, Finance, Medical, and Business in 2022.
You can see several local businesses in Dublin with Indian owners and managers, which may get you part-time jobs if you can get their patronage. “Muqqabla” and “Urvashi” are some music tracks that rock the corridors of these local businesses. So there is no need to forget the rice, dal, and curry after you leave India.
15. Employment rates are at an all-time high!
It is undoubtedly heartening for us to announce (with proof) that employment rates are at an all-time high. Employment figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) confidently state that Ireland is fully employed.
Lifeline for graduates in Pharmaceuticals, Finance & IT, Pharma and biotech industry in Ireland picked up after companies took advantage of the government lowering tax rates for corporates.
19 of the world’s top 20 pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies are in Ireland. They constantly attract graduates with MS degrees from Irish universities. Indian students considering where to go after a UG degree in biotech, pharma, biomedical, and instrumentation can seek Ireland for higher studies.
Accountancy and Finance are lucrative for Indian students who study in Ireland. Due to the demand level and a squeeze in supply, companies are increasing compensation packages for both attraction and retention purposes. [Source: Morgan Mckinley]
Several tech-centred Irish institutions offer MS degrees in information technology, data analytics, cloud computing, and business analytics.
The courses are tailored to tackle real-time challenges in the tech-savvy industries in the IT hub of Europe. This is one supporting point for young and ambitious Indian students to study in Ireland for their Master’s.
16. Ireland’s post-study work visa benefits make you go WOW!
So here is the answer to the much-awaited question, “How to work in Ireland post-graduation”.
The Irish government offers a 2-year post-study work visa for Indian students in Ireland to seek employment after their graduation.
Ireland has two types of work visas – General Work Permit and Critical Skills Employment Permit.
The Critical Skills Employment Permit is acquired by people in the sectors included on the Critical Skills Occupations List, such as ICT professionals, professional engineers, and technologists. This visa targets highly skilled people, encouraging them to reside permanently in Ireland.
In 2022, 63% of the 10,171 critical skill visas issued were grabbed by Indian students studying in Ireland.
A General Employment Permit allows the holder to work in various occupations. Unlike the Critical Skills visa, this permit recognizes that all professions are eligible unless excluded from the Ineligible List of Occupations for Employment Permits.
17. Easy Pathway to PR
Did you know Ireland has one of the most effortless PR processes globally?
A list of countries with the smoothest PR processes would include Ireland in the top five.
A Critical skill visa allows you to apply for a PR in two years, and a General work permit will enable you to apply for a PR in five years.
Conclusion:
A 1-year study in Ireland for Indian students is flawlessly beneficial.
It is undoubtedly your gateway to finding a job in Ireland and getting a PR soon in Ireland using the 2 years of critical skills work permit.
We can connect you with Indian students in Ireland to enquire about your course and confirm all of the benefits we have mentioned above to studying in Ireland for Indian students.

97000 Indians held trying to enter illegally - Ever wondered why?
Tumblr media
According to US Customs and Border Protection data, a record-breaking 96,917 Indians were apprehended while unlawfully crossing into the US between October 2022 and September 2023. This marks a fivefold increase compared to 2019-20.
Although this news is not shocking to anyone, it is shocking when discussing the magnificence of our country. I've seen over the years that Indian expatriates write more about their affection for their own country. Regretfully, they have no desire to go back to India and aid in its growth. People who do not reside here are trolling those who write about the issues we face.
Our beloved Prime Minister is unquestionably a fantastic leader with a vision to improve India, but that doesn't mean that young people can’t voice their concerns and opinions. In reality, when you make your opinion in a civil manner, society benefits. Yes, in a polite way.
One of my cousins, who excelled in GTU's IT programme, was employed by a reputable private company in this area. She was earning a meagre wage while working a certain number of hours. Due to our large population, we have little opportunities and no labour laws. She later travelled to the USA. In less than a year, she managed to land a position as a software engineer, receiving a respectable salary in addition to recognition for her degree. She's also got her mental health back.
One of the women I met was having marital issues. Her life has gotten worse as a result of her decision to file for divorce. She needed to isolate herself from civilization. In society, even her parents experienced some form of psychological abuse. Her only goal in life was to move to Australia, live a dignified life, and become financially independent.
Here, girls are entitled to their parents' property, but if they have a boy, they are not entitled to it, and in such cases, they must stay at their parents' home as guests.
One of my friends was having trouble getting a job. He spent five years without a job while he studied for the government examination. It was harder for him because he belongs to the general category. His family wants him to immigrate to Canada in any way possible since they believe that society has wrecked his mental health.
A man who lives in Ahmedabad's Old City and comes from a lower middle class household. He and his family had great hardship in society, but ever since his family immigrated to Canada, he has gained some notoriety.

How to Earn Online Money In the USA
There are various ways to earn money online in the USA. Keep in mind that like any other form of income, online earning requires effort, time, and sometimes initial investment. Here are some legitimate methods to make money online:
Freelancing: Offer your skills and services on freelance platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, Freelancer, or Toptal. Depending on your expertise, you can find opportunities in writing, graphic design, web development, digital marketing, and more.
Online Surveys and Market Research: Participate in paid surveys and market research studies on websites like Swagbucks, Survey Junkie, and Vindale Research. While this won't make you rich, it's an easy way to earn some extra cash.
Content Creation: If you have a passion for creating content, you can start a blog, YouTube channel, or podcast. Once you gain an audience, you can monetize through ads, sponsorships, and affiliate marketing.
Online Teaching: If you have expertise in a subject or skill, consider teaching online. Platforms like VIPKid and Teachable allow you to create and sell courses to students worldwide.
Selling Products: Start an online store using platforms like Shopify or Etsy to sell physical or digital products. You can also leverage Amazon's FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) to sell products without the hassle of shipping and handling.
Stock Photography: If you're a photographer, you can sell your photos on stock photography websites like Shutterstock or Adobe Stock.
Virtual Assistant: Offer virtual assistant services to businesses and entrepreneurs. Tasks may include managing emails, scheduling, data entry, and more.
Affiliate Marketing: Promote products or services through affiliate links, and earn a commission for every sale made through your unique referral link.
Online Investing: Consider investing in stocks, cryptocurrencies, or peer-to-peer lending platforms, but always remember that investing involves risk.
Online Gaming and Streaming: If you're skilled in gaming, you can earn money through live streaming on platforms like Twitch, YouTube Gaming, or Facebook Gaming. Additionally, some games offer opportunities to earn money through in-game items and currencies.
Dropshipping: Start an e-commerce business without holding any inventory. With dropshipping, you sell products to customers, and the supplier ships the products directly to them. Platforms like Shopify and WooCommerce can help you set up your online store.
Remote Work: Many companies offer remote job opportunities. Websites like Remote.co and FlexJobs list remote positions across various industries.
Transcription Services: If you have good typing skills, consider providing transcription services to convert audio or video content into text. Websites like Rev and TranscribeMe offer such opportunities.
Online Consulting: If you have expertise in a particular field (e.g., business, finance, marketing, health), offer consulting services online via video calls or email.
Rent Out Your Space: If you have extra space, you can rent it out through platforms like Airbnb for short-term rentals or use Peerspace for events and meetings.
Online Surplus Sales: Sell items you no longer need on online marketplaces like eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or Craigslist.
Language Tutoring: If you are fluent in multiple languages, offer language tutoring or translation services through websites like italki or Verbling.
Remote Programming: If you're a programmer or software developer, you can find remote coding projects on platforms like GitHub, GitLab, and Stack Overflow Jobs.
Online Data Entry: Some companies offer data entry tasks that can be completed remotely. Look for opportunities on job boards or freelancing platforms.
Social Media Management: Help businesses manage their social media presence and create content for platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
Create and Sell Printables: If you have design skills, create printable templates or digital products like planners, calendars, and artwork to sell on platforms like Etsy or your website.
Online Gaming Tournaments: If you're a skilled gamer, participate in online gaming tournaments that offer cash prizes.
Remote Customer Service: Some companies hire remote customer service representatives to handle customer inquiries via phone, chat, or email.
Virtual Events and Webinars: Host virtual events or webinars on topics of interest and charge attendees for access.
Remember that success in online ventures often requires consistency, dedication, and adaptability. It may take time to build a sustainable income stream, so be patient and keep learning and improving your skills. Always be cautious of scams and never invest money you can't afford to lose in any online opportunity.

I don't know if OP is american, I guess they are, but this post .... fascinating.
by that I mean, wherever they live, USA or elsewhere, it must be a hellscape. Is it really like that? If yes then I am very sorry.
But it's so strange because I - a 25 year old Austrian woman - am a twice-over university dropout, and I used to tutor at a tutoring institution, whatever they're called in English, no issues at all. A great part time job when I was in uni, loved it.
Now I'm a real life journalist in a lead position and, like most of my coworkers just... kind of fell into it. My boss doesn't have a "journalism degree", she has a phd in Biology. My coworker has a Masters in Cultural Studies, my other coworker, some of them have degrees, some don't, but a tiny percentage have anything related to "journalism" or "communication" degrees. At least in my experience it is just something you fall into, wether you want it or not.
I've not worked at a library before but I know it's a 6 months course you can do while still working full time and then you are alllowed to lead a libray. And I've also not done that, because I don't have a degree lol, but there are programms where people with non-teaching related degrees can fairly easily start teaching, though they cater more to STEM degrees - for people who have worked as engineers to teach at engineering focused high schools for example (again difficult to put it in English I am not sure the concept exists in the USA)
I mean I know there is a lot of survivorship bias involved, yes, not everyone just happens to easily find a job just like that (I mean, MOST of job searching is just networking. Especially in journalism. Start as a small-scale occasional freelancer, make a name for yourself, eventually hope to get hired as editorial staff, all that)
BUT are these degrees like, REQUIRED by law or whatever, or just what employers like to list in their job postings? Big difference. Experience counts for far more in the real world... at least in my experience.
What I know about USA colleges is that it is insanely expensive. it boggles the mind - you mean to tell me you have to pay 100.000 to be allowed to take pictures and write words?????? If I had to go to college for my job i would probably be homeless. Because, Hi, ADHD brain, absolutely awful at studying and taking tests, amazing at working at a real job that is fairly fun most of the time.
I don't mean to be insensitive but... you guys live like that??? Being forced to go into debt for jobs that really really should not require extensive academic educations????
as someone with a bachelor’s degree in english, i am inexpressibly tired of people telling me to get highly specific jobs that often require highly specific degrees. “just go write for a magazine!” you need a journalism degree for that. “just teach!” you need a teaching certificate, and also fuck you. “just go work at a tutoring place!” tutoring children with learning disabilities, which make up the majority of the clientele at those places, requires not only a teaching certificate but a specialized master’s degree. “just go work at a library!” you need a master’s degree in library science to be a librarian. it is actually a highly skilled and extremely competitive field. you don’t just “go work at a library,” you train for years in the vain hope that you will get one of handful of available jobs. “just go work at a library.” the nerve. the unmitigated gall. “just go work at a library.” ugh.

One of the most important decisions a student will ever make is which institution to attend.  The most important factor for any store is location. You have to see several things—like good faculty members, campus, placement counseling, and overall care while studying in BA Economics colleges in Greater Noida. Galgotias University is one of the unique colleges in Greater Noida, despite the fact that there are many others.
Let us discover why Galgotias University is the best choice for BA Economics Honours.

If you are going to study further abroad or looking for a top BA LLB university, or do something in multinational companies, this exposure will prepare you for the same.
Breathtaking Placement Opportunities
Once you complete your degree, you will need a good job. Galgotias provides students with the highest placement package in MBA through its successful placement cell. Over 1200 companies hire from Galgotias. 98% of the students were placed by the university in good companies.
The maximum pay package awarded to a student till date is ₹1.5 crore, and the average package is approximately ₹5.4 lakh a year. Though these are generally for students of technology or engineering, members of the placement team are available to assist students of any department, even economics.
Even special training is provided by the placement team to prepare the students for interviews and acquire soft skills.
Opportunities Beyond Classrooms
Galgotias feels that students should not develop just intellectually but also in other spheres of life. That is why they have all those student clubs, councils, cultural societies and sports teams. You can attend hackathons, competitions, debates and seminars.
If you have a business plan, you can even visit the Galgotias Incubation Centre, promoting startups and entrepreneurs.
This is possible while doing BA Economics Honours, as one can ascertain their other strengths, become more confident, and learn leadership characteristics.
Success Stories and Alumni
Most of the students who studied at Galgotias are currently doing a wonderful job. A few of them are working in top companies such as Cisco, L&T, Capillary Technologies, SOTI, and Autodesk. A few others have become successful entrepreneurs and government officials.
One of the students, Anshika Verma, pursued engineering at Galgotias and is an IPS officer after passing the UPSC exam. Another set of students developed a voter support app for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, demonstrating how education at Galgotias leads to actual change.
Such success stories are testimony enough that Galgotias makes you dream big and accomplish big things.
No matter what you aim for, whether you want to work, become an entrepreneur or move abroad for education, Galgotias University will make it possible for you.
Final Words
When you are making a choice of college, you're not making a decision about where you will learn—you're making a decision about your future. And if you are looking for the best learning, wonderful guidance, and an environment where you can grow to the best of your abilities, then Galgotias University is where you need to go for your BA Economics Honours course in Greater Noida.
Begin at Galgotias and create a bright future!

It's Greyish Among Blue & Green Ammonia
Glancing back at IFA 2025, green and blue ammonia remained a hot topic of discussion. Naturally, the production of green and blue ammonia continues to be widely supported and subsidised. However, from what I’m hearing from my peers in the US, the situation there is becoming increasingly questionable.
President Trump’s latest FY 2026 “skinny” budget, alongside the House Republican tax plan, represents a major setback for low‑carbon ammonia developers. Here’s why:
1. Deep cuts to clean‑energy credits. The plan accelerates the expiration of critical clean-energy tax incentives-such as hydrogen and ammonia credits - forcing developers to begin construction within 60 days and complete projects by 2028, instead of the current 2032 deadline. The proposed repeal of 45V tax credits (which support green hydrogen production) and the weakening of 45Q credits for carbon capture would severely undermine the financial viability of both green and blue ammonia.
2. Massive cuts to clean‑energy programmes. Approximately $3.7 billion in federal clean-energy demonstration funding has been slashed-including support previously earmarked for hydrogen and carbon-capture projects. Trump’s FY 2026 budget proposes a ~74% reduction in the DOE’s renewable energy programmes and a 31% cut to fossil-energy R&D, further narrowing federal support.
3. Market and supply chain disruption.Uncertainty around potential sourcing restrictions and tariffs (e.g., 25% on Canadian ammonia) increases both cost and risk for project planning. Meanwhile, the UK, EU, Japan, and South Korea are increasingly defining “clean ammonia” by carbon intensity-meaning U.S. projects may fail to meet international standards without stable and consistent policymaking.
4. Chilling effect on investment and industry confidence. Investors and developers are already delaying or downsizing projects-such as Air Products’ $8 billion blue hydrogen/ammonia facility in Louisiana-as policy support wanes. Jobs in renewable energy and infrastructure pipelines are also at risk, shaking confidence in a sector that had been growing rapidly.
I’m not suggesting it’s a dead-born initiative; however, without reliable tax credits (45V and 45Q), sustained DOE funding, and globally harmonised low-carbon standards, the U.S. risks losing its competitive edge in the development of blue and green ammonia. These projects are crucial for decarbonising fertiliser production, maritime fuel, and hydrogen energy storage—not to mention maintaining relevance in global markets.

I've only recently realized that I've adopted the "not talking about my achievements or unique things about me" to some degree.
There's a bunch of reasons for this--I've spent the last decade in a multicultural tourist hotspot where almost everybody has done some really cool shit or is currently doing some really cool shit, and sooner or later, it'll come out organically, and then you get to talk about it deeper than just a "Wow, good job! Good on you!"
Outside of other people who've chosen to live where I live, my life can seem kinda extraordinary, and it gets weird having the same conversations over and over again where people are amazed and it's just your normal everyday life now.
Instead of telling people I'm a novelist and survive and thrive 100% off my book earnings, I just say I'm a writer, and let them assume blog posts, etc. If pushed to specify, I often say "something like that," a lot of the time.
I live in Costa Rica on the beach. Now some people are going to be like, "oh nice, it's lovely there," which is a great response. But sometimes I get the "OH YOU ARE SO LUCKY THAT'S AMAZING," and that feels weird too. It's my life. It's a choice I happened into, worked to keep, and it's my normal.
My kid is an anchor baby--a dual citizen here who gave me legal residency to stay. The only place this seems like a bad thing is if you're not-white and in the USA, at which you're trying to take advantage of the system. (Yeah, the system sucks. That's why it has to be taken advantage of. I actually do bring this one up to folks from the US to push their understanding of immigration.)
But I will happily tell friends and family the moment I finish a new book. If I have a really good income month or something else rad happened.
I'll tell them about my achievement moments in Spanish, like the day I went on a four hour hike and ended up chatting with someone in Spanish for the whole day. The first time someone I knew spoke English and Spanish didn't immediately switch to English when I started talking.
Connected to this idea of how we speak about our achievements is how we speak about identity.
One of the things I've consciously attempted to train myself out of is asking people what they do for work. Because that's how we identify ourselves in the US--what we do for work. I say I'm a novelist. I was a software programmer. I don't say I write books. I wrote computer programs. We don't describe our jobs as what we do but what it makes us.
And the rest of the world isn't like that, and even 10 years out I still can't fully wrap my head around that and detangle the knot of capitalistic identity wrapped around my soul.
"What do you like to do with your time?" and other probably better phrased questions still feel so awkward and out of place in my mouth, when "What do you do for work?" is so comfortable and familiar.
Because the reality is most people from the US spend the majority of their time at work. We don't have space to do or be much else unless we work extremely hard to reject cultural expectations. Not to mention how meeting the bare level of survival keeps most people pinned down in work with little escape.
Coming back to the original topic of how we share achievements, I think they're definitely tied together. On the one hand, we in the US have a big cultural identity problem in that there's a more or less unspoken belief that what we achieve defines who we are. On the other hand, we're generally more than happy to take any excuse to celebrate and hype up others, and hope they do the same for us.
It's not a better way or a worse way, as many other reblogs have noted--its just A way, with its own benefits and costs.

The Class 12 results are out – and now, it all begins. People you barely know will start asking: What was your percentage? What are your plans now? Which college are you joining? Like some sort of unhinged avenging angel.
BASIC INFORMATION
NAME: Number 9
NICKNAME(S): Alastor
BIRTHDAY: November 3rd, 3059
AGE: 39 (as of 3099) - abducted by the government aged 22, escaped (alongside Pliny, Caballo, Sif, and Lux) aged 37
GENDER: Debatable. AMAB, but thanks to his time as a government experiment, it has resulted in a disconnected sense of identity - so he isn’t really sure how he identifies.
PRONOUNS: He / she / they / ze / xe / it / any you’d like. Anything goes. Just don’t call him late for dinner. (‘he’ is used here for ease of recording information)
SEXUALITY: Lord knows. Among other confused parts of his identity are his sexuality, which may take him a while to properly understand.
RESIDENCY: The Coldlands (the completely lawless and mostly destroyed parts of the United States of America, almost specifically in the North. They are opposed by the Badlands to the South)
BIRTHPLACE: His records say Baton Rouge (Louisiana, USA), but he sounds like he walked out of Pennsylvania (USA).
NATIONALITY: American
ETHNICITY: White
LANGUAGES SPOKEN: English, Spanish (México)
Whoever we were, they’re dead. But if we stop for a second to mourn, we’re dead too.
EMPLOYMENT: A former Faceless Ones drug experiment survivor, turned government assassin, turned escapee, turned nomadic rebel. Do any of those really classify as jobs?
EDUCATION: Completed all education up to 11 years old, at which point the virus broke out and it became very much a guessing game as to when society would fall and he would be forced out of education. He dropped out aged 16, having held out longer than most before calling it quits.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS: An unspecified disassociative disorder (not one that causes a system, he is a singular individual), PTSD, and potential emotional regulation issues.

FACECLAIM: Jonathan Groff (Mindhunter)
HAIR COLOUR: Lighter black, appearing grey or off-colour in certain lights
EYE COLOUR: Lighter blue, appearing grey in certain lights
HEIGHT: 6’0”
SCARS: A good few, but his most known are the thin line running down the bottom of his right cheekbone (seeming to follow the bone), the small cut to the left side of his upper lip, and a small line running through the left side of his hairline, into his forehead. His right thumb pad has a line running through the brunt of it, invalidating his fingerprint. Of these scars, he already had the one on his hairline before becoming an experiment.

FAMILY
FATHER: A ‘William Montserrat’ was found in his files, but no date of birth or viable link to Alastor could be identified. It’s possible this is Alastor himself. His father is presumed deceased.
MOTHER: Unknown (most likely deceased)
SIBLINGS: Unknown (most likely deceased)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER(S): N / A - though he does seem to vaguely remember someone from before he became an experiment. This may be a significant other, a sibling, a parent, a friend or even a child, though the other members of the Five believe them to have been a significant other. They are presumed deceased.
CHILDREN: N / A (that he or I are aware of)
PREDOMINANT PERSONALITY TRAITS
- Like the other members of the Eighteen, Alastor was abducted from his home, forced into a shady government drug experimentation programme, survived, and was forced to become a government assassin. Years under this abusive imprisonment have damaged his psyche, along with that of the other members of the Five, hardening him and causing emotional disregulation issues - alongside a disconnected and disorientated sense of identity.
- Like the other members of the Five, Alastor’s memory was wiped at some point in the laboratory. This is believed to be a side-effect of surviving the experiments. Not remembering anything has damaged his sense of environment and understanding, causing severe confusion and undue stress in the early stages of his forced assassin days.
- Alastor is responsible for the execution of Proxy, one of the Five’s former bosses. He shot her after realising she intended on killing the remaining members of the Eighteen (twelve of them were still alive at the time) in order to prevent an uprising, and to tie up any loose ends. Hadrian / Number 1 was the only one slain by Proxy before her execution, and Alastor still feels responsible for his death.
- Due to surviving a bullet wound to the shoulder that did not correctly heal, he has been left with chronic pain and wears a shoulder brace to lessen it - which has only served to make him grumpier.
- Despite his evident anger and emotional volatility, he is the de-facto leader of the Five, and frequently disassociates out of sheer stress. He’s notably terrified when he comes back to himself, but will never admit it, for fear of causing stress amongst the others. He acts as their guardian, taking most of the weight so that they don’t have to.
- The way he cares about the others proves that he does have a heart, and that ultimately he is a good man, but has lost most of his sense of identity over the years and cannot remember his gentler nature.
Mercy doesn’t find people like us. We killed it a long time ago.
OTHER NOTES
INTERESTS: Like Lux / Number 11, he seems to have a fascination with the night sky. It may well be something he finds calming, trying to pick out the constellations and remember their names for next time. He has occasionally been known to try and follow the North Star to a new safehouse.
HOBBIES: Stargazing, mostly. Very rarely, he’ll take up reading a book, or painting something using only the pads of his thumbs.
SKILLS: Alastor possesses extremely fast reflexes - on occasion appearing to look instant - and has not been known to tremble when holding a weapon. He can also hold his breath for up to seven minutes, or up to three if suffering with an illness affecting his lungs.
SLEEPING HABITS: He is constantly sleep-deprived from the unwillingness to sleep - because when he sleeps, he is plagued with nightmares. He’s taken to randomly passing out whenever he isn’t immediately needed (or required to be alert and conscious), to try and prevent the nightmares. If his conscious brain is too tired to think, surely his unconscious one must be the same, no?
