Isaac Lee Hayes Jr.(August 20,1942-August 10,2008 ) was a singer, songwriter, producer, and actor. He is best known for his deep voice, which worked perfectly for speaking and singing. He was one of the creative forces behind Southern soul and Stax Records he was busy in the 70s scoring soundtracks to films such as Shaft and other Blaxploitation films. He was a skilled producer and composer. Hayes produced and made soul and funk music with big lush sounds. He won several awards for skilled craftsmanship in music. My dad enjoyed the lengthy Hayes song,” By The Time I Get To Phoenix,” and I enjoyed it myself. Hayes appeared in several films, including the funny movie I’m Gonna Git You Sucka and many others; you may have heard his voice as the character Chef on the Comedy Central animated series South Park. In 2002 he was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has been awarded for all his work in music. Hayes was an artist that wore many hats as an entertainer and was skilled in each area; he is most certainly an inspiration and influence to various artists today.

Meshell Ndegeocello, The Omnichord Real Book
New music Wednesday
Featuring a large number of excellent collaborators, the multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter's debut for Blue Note took almost five years to create. Her most genuine and private record to date, one might honestly infer how her life experiences and intensely personal lyrics serve as the foundation for a flurry of jazz soul and electronic connections that jeweled this album.
