Allon completes patient enrolment for progressive supranuclear palsy drug trial
A Phase II/III pivotal trial to evaluate neuroprotective drug candidate Davunetide as a treatment for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Drugs Development Market ,a rapidly progressing and fatal degenerative brain disease, has completed enrollment of 300 patients by Allon Therapeutics.
Davunetide is derived from an activity-dependent neuroprotective protein, a naturally occurring brain protein that protects neurons.
Davunetide has been shown to have significant effects on memory, daily activities, and a biomarker of brain cell function and integrity, according to earlier human clinical and pre-clinical data.
A special protocol assessment is being used to conduct the Phase II/III trial, which is based on efficacy in patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment and schizophrenia-associated cognitive impairment.
Gordon McCauley, president and CEO of Allon, stated that the company anticipates releasing the study's data by the end of 2012.
McCauley continued, "We expect that this pivotal study will provide sufficient data for a regulatory submission for marketing approval."

A spectrum of neurodegenerative diseases, including frontotemporal dementia (FTD), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), and corticobasal degeneration (CBD) are due to the accumulation of abnormal, misfolded tau proteins in the brain. A team of researchers has found potential ways to interrupt this process by targeting “sticky” sites along the long form of mutated tau, preventing the misfolding and spreading of the neurofibrillary tangles.

Lawmaker uses AI voice clone to address Congress
Virginia Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton used an artificial intelligence (AI) program to address the House on Thursday. A year ago, the lawmaker was diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy, which makes it difficult for her to speak. The AI program allowed Wexton to clone her speaking voice using old recordings of her appearances and speeches in Congress. Wexton appears to be the first…

US Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton, who lost her voice due to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), now uses an AI-powered voice cloning tool from ElevenLabs to deliver speeches in her original voice.
Initially relying on a robotic text-to-speech tool, Wexton’s team worked with ElevenLabs, supplying over an hour of her pre-diagnosis audio.
Within days, ElevenLabs produced a digital version of her voice, perfectly capturing its natural cadence, tone, and timbre.
Wexton debuted this new voice model while addressing the House Appropriations Committee, sounding much more natural than the robotic alternative.
Wexton highlighted the importance of accessibility, noting that the AI-generated voice is not only a personal triumph but also a testament to AI’s potential in aiding those with speech impairments.
ElevenLabs, renowned for its advanced voice replication technology, has also created AI versions of celebrities like James Dean and Judy Garland.

8 Warning Signs You Should See A Neurologist
Tumblr media
Problems with your peripheral nervous system, brain, and spinal cord can lead to various neurological problems. These disorders can cause various distressing symptoms which can affect the normal functioning of the body. If you or your near ones experience any early signs of neurological issues then you need to book an appointment with the best neurologist in Siliguri.
Neurologists are specialized healthcare professionals who are experienced in diagnosing and treating various disorders affecting the nervous system. From medications to specialized care and surgery, a neurologist can offer the most effective treatment plan to manage your symptoms and promote a swift recovery.
Signs You Should Consult a Neurologist
1. Headache
You must visit a neurologist if you get recurrent headaches. Although tension and stress-related headaches are normal, more severe and frequent headaches may be a sign of several neurological issues. Headaches, including tension headaches, cluster headaches, and migraines, are mostly caused by neurologic issues.
In most cases, a headache from a neuro problem can also cause symptoms of pain behind the eyes, sensitivity to light and sound, nausea, and pain only at one side of the head. To create an individualized treatment plan, the doctor will first identify the disease using a detailed neurological examination.
2. Abnormal Tremors
Involuntary tremors or movement issues could be signs of a neurological condition. Several movement disorders that impair your skeletal muscles, central nervous system, and motor neurons while either delaying or accelerating your movements could be the cause of these sudden tremors.
The two main illnesses that produce this symptom are Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, such as restless leg syndrome, multiple system atrophy, essential tremor, and progressive supranuclear palsy. Any neurological issue affecting your vestibular system can cause this discomfort, which occasionally also manifests as instability and vertigo.
3. Seizures
Seizures are among the most common indicators of a serious neurological illness so you must contact the best neurology doctor in Siliguri. Seizures brought on by abrupt electrical discharges from the brain can also induce tremors, strange feelings, and unconsciousness.
Although epilepsy is the primary cause of seizures, it can also indicate more serious neurological disorders or brain trauma. You should be aware that unexpected and sudden sensations may occur right before a seizure. To identify the primary cause of repeated seizures, the doctor may suggest electroencephalography, brain imaging, and blood tests.
4. Vision Problems
In the event that your vision changes suddenly or in an unusual way, it's critical to pay attention and get in touch with the top neurologist. Certain anomalies of vision, like tunnel vision, double vision, hazy vision, and difficulty focusing, may be signs of underlying neurological issues.
These symptoms may indicate particular dysfunctions in the brain's visual processing center or optic nerves. Among these conditions affecting the optic nerve are giant cell arteritis, optic neuritis, optic neuropathies, and schizophrenic disorders. You must know that inaction in these circumstances may result in a permanent loss of vision.
5. Cognitive Impairment
One of the most noticeable indicators of neurological issues might be cognitive impairment or changes in cognitive functioning. You should see a neurology doctor right away if you have trouble concentrating, memory loss, or language issues.
Herein, several neurodegenerative illnesses, dementia, or Alzheimer’s disease can cause significant cognitive deterioration which can make it extremely challenging to perform everyday duties. Some of the symptoms that may indicate you’re experiencing cognitive decline are trouble making decisions, missing important social events, misplacing things, and trouble following instructions.
6. Speech Issues
Your speech and language are controlled by the neurological system in addition to your eyesight and mobility. Because of this, any abnormalities in the nervous system could lead to issues with language or speech. With some underlying neurological conditions affecting the language processing center, you may experience slurred speech or have trouble understanding words.
Some of the prevalent conditions linked to speech issues include Dysarthria, Aphasia, Dysphonia, and Speech apraxia. If you have any of these neurological conditions, you will notice changes in your speech, including difficulties with voice quality, articulation, fluency, and language comprehension.
7. Unexplained Pain
Problems with the neurological system may be indicated if you have persistent or unexplained pain in the back or neck. The doctor will first recommend either traditional therapy or over-the-counter medicines to manage the pain. If taking medication doesn't relieve the discomfort in this instance, a comprehensive neurological examination is required to determine the underlying cause.
Neuropathy is one of the most common conditions that could cause this symptom. Certain spinal cord issues and nerve compression can cause back and neck discomfort to worsen such as pinched nerves, Spinal tumors, Herniated discs, and Spinal stenosis.
8. Balance Problems
Dizziness is a common sign of neurological diseases, and it can also cause problems with balance. You can find it very difficult to coordinate or maintain your equilibrium. This discomfort, which is also sometimes accompanied by instability and vertigo, can be brought on by any neurological condition that affects your vestibular system.
If this illness is not addressed right away, you run the risk of suffering trauma and unexpected falls. Some common medical conditions interfering with your sense of balance are Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.
Along with these early signs, you must also contact a neurologist in Siliguri if you experience any sleeping problems. Snoring can seem like a common problem for everyone but this can also be a symptom of neurological symptoms. You must note that early intervention is the key to a successful treatment and hence, it is pivotal to report the warning signs immediately.

In a study with 991 adults, scientists at DZNE show that the most common forms of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) as well as the neurological diseases amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) can be recognised by blood testing. Their procedure is not yet ready for routine medical use, but in the long term it could facilitate disease diagnosis and advance the development of new therapies already now. The findings published in the journal "Nature Medicine" are based on the measurement of certain proteins in the blood, which serve as biomarkers. The study also involved the University Hospital Bonn (UKB) and other research institutions in Germany and Spain.

Papers I am safe. I am warm. I am alone in this bed. I was dreaming about sleep in my sleep. In my dream, I recognize I am doing a good job. I let myself wake up without an alarm clock. I know the sunrise will wake me. Infallible things have fallen apart. I cleaned sheets of paper, of material off the floor — paper scattered like white doves. I am arranging details about my mother with my…

Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP): What is it?
Tumblr media
Quick Facts of PSP:
Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) is a neurodegenerative disorder that has no known cause or cure
It affects brain cells that control balance, walking, coordination, eye movement, speech, swallowing, and thinking
Five to six people in 100,000 have PSP
Symptoms begin, on average, when an individual is in the early 60’s, but may start as early as in the 40’s
PSP is slightly more common in men than women, but it has no known geographical, occupational, or racial preference.
Symptoms of PSP include:
Loss of balance
Changes in personality
Weakness of eye movements, especially in the downward direction
Weakened movements of the mouth, tongue, and throat
Slurred speech
Difficulty swallowing
Diagnosis of PSP requires consultation with a neurologist and a regular follow up.
Treatment of PSP include:
Unfortunately, PSP does not have a cure. Some prescription medications can help alleviate symptoms. Walking aids and other modifications around the house may be necessary. An important component of care is understanding the progressive nature of the disease and prevention of caregiver fatigue.
