I did finish my shield and I am very pleased with it.
Tumblr media
On the left, the first version, which I finished about a year ago.
On the right, the one I finished today. It’s a little thicker and has better straps. It’s not mirrored- I put the first one together wrong but didn’t realize it. It has magic powers.
Look:
Like really I feel this is my finest work and I look forward to building a bunch of stupid thing to fuse to this shield

I crack myself up.

We've been building a Luggage and we are on the home straight.
He just needs his rivets attached properly now that have been painted and his legs need spray painting before being attached.
This has been an epic build and we cannot thank Gary Dorr of TARDIS Cabinets of South Wales enough for his help in making the box itself so we could turn it fully into our vision of Rincewind's faithful companion.
The next time we post some pictures of him,we will be at Fantasy Forest Festival where you can have your picture with him too.

Hi tumblr are ya'll interested in seeing a wip of Revali’s bow? I don't usually post my cosplay stuff on here but idk I think ya'll would want this. Prop building is something I absolutely love doing. There's still things to do for the bow but it's almost done!

My first big project: The Portal Gun!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
an entirely homemade portal gun :D this took a total of like 3 months, but i also worked slowly and often couldnt progress for a week or two because i needed to buy something for it
very happy with how it came out though! it’s the first of two items for a Chell cosplay im working on!
the barrel does light up, but only blue, unfortunately. i had big plans but electronics are very expensive :(

Getting there~
The lighting is being a pill cause I have to find a way to diffuse it evenly and not lose my mind in the process. But I am getting there bit by bit. I am loving the green inside the mouth, and like the eyes, I still have to work out some things there. Push comes to shove I may change the type of lights I'm using but I'm not up for that just yet. We'll see.

Finally managed to put some color onto it.
The visor is just the back of a binder und had lying around so it's not functional but I still like how it looks.

Spent today securing the fake wooden planks to my mimic with troll boogers (contact cement) 🤧
Now to neaten up the edges and then it's plastidip time! I can't wait to get all the base painting done so I can start on the trim and eye sculpting. Still have a veeeery big tongue to sew and foam teeth to carve.

Thousand Sunny for the volume 105 release party my workplace hosted.
Made of cardboard boxes, hot glue, acrylic paint, Christmas ornaments, toothpicks, polystyrene, blood and tears. My coworker made the lion head and crossed bones, I built and painted the rest.
The guests were delighted so I'm really happy despite it being a bit of a rushed job.

I love when the thing you’re making starts to look like the thing it’s supposed to be.

staff number 1: the galaxy staff!
its a bit flawed, but a pretty good result for a first attempt at building a prop, especially since i was practically winging the whole process.
more about the building process under the cut
the pole is taken from a random wooden broom, the top piece is a painted hollow styrofoam egg, all held together with hot glue and sticky-sided foam sheet cuttings. the same foam cutting were also used for the soft handle, to protect my hand from the spikes.
the spikes were made with puffy paint, which is silver but got repainted over with the blue to black gradient because man i was highly indecisive while making this thing.
overall this is what ive learnt from this project, learn from my mistakes:
foam sheets can be painted after being primed with a nice layer of glue. i used matte mod podge, but im sure other thick glues will work fine.
however, my mistake was applying the foam cuttings BEFORE painting them. had i painted them individually instead of all together, it wouldve created a more cohesive/consistent look. it wouldve taken much longer but wouldve also been more worth it!
you can get rid of that icky styrofoam visual texture with the noticeable circles and lines with multiple layers of mod podge. but its kind of ineffiecent. i think ill try using something like painters duct tape instead next time.
you cannot reuse foam cuttings. even if you manage to tear them off successfully. it wont look or stick the same.
PLEASE have a proper plan PLEASEEEE

Another round of eye tests.
I didn't want to mess with resin too much mostly cause that stuff is mess you up if you're not careful. That and wasn't sure how to get the proper color so I decided to try glass paints instead, specially ones that give the stained glass effect.
I spent 3 days layering the paint over and over to get the desired color and thickness I wanted. I use a solid white sheet to spread out the white light for more uniformity. To light the eye up completely without one side being brighter than the other. A trick I used for previous costumes involving light work.
Overall I feel the effort put into the eyes was a success. The color of the eyes is tribute to its original dark coloring we see in the Movie, but also being able to light up with what we see in the Musical. A tip of the hat to both versions of the lovely lady.
Once the eyes are finalized, then I get to move onto constructing the outer false head. That's gonna be fun/interesting as the bulk of the body for the worm will be fabric. In short, this thing is a giant plush with a solid head.
