Y'all already giving up on Helldivers 2? Seriously?
(Warning: This post is going to be me ranting about something, and I'm prolly gonna sound pretty worked up during it all. Take what I said with a grain of salt, because I'm just someone with strong opinions.)
So... Helldivers 2's community's reaction to the latest news about linking PSN accounts. Frankly, it's been bothering me that people lost faith so fast.
TL;DR For those of you who don't know is that Sony decided to make it mandatory for players to link their Steam account to a Playstation Network account in order to play the game, with a mandatory login starting from May 30th.
This is absolutely horrible, for a few reasons.
1.) PSN service is particularly notorious for their ability to leak data and get breached by hackers.
It's also particularly invasive, with a face scan being REQUIRED in some countries.
2.) TONS of countries in the world CAN'T make a PSN account at all, meaning that people in those countries will straight up be banned from playing the game entirely if the change goes through.
All in all, not a great situation, and I can understand why people are mad.
What pisses me off however, is how quickly people loses faith in the dev team of the game: Arrowhead.
Clearly, this upcoming change is something forced onto the devs by Sony, with the team most likely not having any say in the matter at all, and yet some people are unfairly targetting the devs with their anger.
Why do I believe that the devs are innocent, you may ask?
Because Arrowhead actually CARES about the game and their playerbase!
They have proven time and time again that they are willing to listen to community feedbacks, and unlike many modern AAA games, Helldivers 2 does NOT actually have any predatory transactions for being a live-service game.
The main battle pass in Helldivers 2?
Not only does it not expire at all, meaning that you're not on a timer to unlock everything-
But it is also FREELY AVAILABLE for all players the moment they start playing the game.
The premium battle passes, like Steeled Veterans and Cutting Edge?
You can earn premium currency for them by just playing the game and unlocking things in the main free battle pass.
You don't have to pay a single dime, nor do you need to grind excessively for them, and you can play the game just fine without unlocking any premium battle passes at all.
The game is by no means a pay 2 win, far from it in fact!
Within less than 2 weeks of buying the game, I'm able to unlock most of the strategems within the game through just playing the game normally, and even without many ship upgrades due to me lacking the samples required for them, I'm able to play through missions on the highest difficulty of the game just fine.
I'm not forced to tediously grind lower difficulties to get all the upgrades before I can tackle the game's hardest missions, and that kind of thing in a video game as popular as Helldivers 2 is a wonderful breath of fresh air.
Finally, the attention to detail in this game is phenomenal.
I don't know the full list of it, not even close, but trust me when I say that the game is full of little details that you'd easily miss if they're not pointed out to you, and whenever you notice them you can't help but feel that the game gets more and more surreal in the sheer amount of passion packed into it.
And all of those things, are why I'm disappointed by how fast the community seem to give up hope in the devs.
Sony actually did a pretty dirty move, if you think about it.
Announcing this news RIGHT BEFORE weekends, so that they can use it as an excuse to not respond to Arrowhead's messages about the shitty account linking policy until Monday, which coincidentally also gives plenty of time for people to fan the flame and shit on Arrowhead for something that they likely had no say in the matter.
As of this message, one of their devs has outright stated this in Helldivers 2's official discord server:
"If a better solution isn't provided for players who are in regions without PSN coverage, I'm assured that we won't be making the requirement mandatory for those players. We're not going to force people to either break Sony TOS or not play the game." - Spitz
Which means that not all hope is lost, and it also only further proves that Arrowhead themselves ain't gonna stand for Sony's policy either. They're likely just as peeved about it as the rest of us, if not more.
Don't lose faith just yet, Helldiver! We WILL win this battle!
...Look, I get that I'm just a random person on the internet.
Heck, I don't even know how many people would care to read this post this far down.
But if you've read this far, you're prolly wondering: "Why do you care so much about this?"
Because the way this whole thing is going on is giving me painful reminders of a part of my past.
Having been verbally abused, treated with double standards and more for OVER A YEAR AND A HALF by the modded terraria community, I know what it's like to be treated unfairly, and for people to abandon you from lack of faith the moment they think you're doing something "wrong" without bothering to get their facts right first.
The situation Arrowhead is going through right now is just plain unfair to them, and people are making it even worse by directing their anger at them rather than the one actually at fault: Sony Interactive Entertainment.
I get that people are not happy, but the way the community is reacting- such as review bombing the game with thousands of negative reviews and making several "call-out" videos on YouTube? That ain't it. That's just gonna fan the flame more and more, y'know? And that's only going to hurt Arrowhead, NOT Sony.
I know this post won't make any real change at all- hell it prolly won't even change the minds of some people, but Helldivers 2 has great potential to be absolutely amazing. I want to see it spread its wings further and further, and I'd hate to see the dev team loses passion for the game from this sudden lack of faith in them.
...Anddd that's all I wanted to rant about. Wow, that's a lot, huh.
Anyways, I just want to voice my opinion out loud, don't mind me- have a good day, y'all <3
5th May Update: Arrowhead actually wants players in countries that are locked out of the game to refund the game while they're looking for a solution, take a look at this post:

Further proof that Arrowhead really does care!

How Many Times Has the PlayStation Network Been Hacked?
Tumblr media
Sony, the renowned multinational conglomerate, has grappled with a series of high-profile data breaches and security incidents over the years, leaving a trail of compromised user data and significant financial repercussions. From state-sponsored cyber attacks to defiant hacker groups, Sony's digital fortresses have been repeatedly breached, exposing the vulnerabilities of even the most prominent corporations in the digital age.
The Most Recent Incidents
In October 2023, Sony notified 6,791 current and former employees that their data had been compromised in a breach that occurred earlier in the year. The intrusion, which took place in late May, was part of the widespread MOVEit attacks that targeted hundreds of companies and government agencies. Sony stated that it detected the breach on June 2 and promptly addressed the situation, asserting that no customer data was implicated. Just a month prior, in September 2023, Sony found itself investigating another alleged hack. The hacker group RansomedVC claimed to have stolen a staggering 260 GB of proprietary data from Sony's systems, including a PowerPoint presentation and source code files. However, the credibility of this claim was challenged by another hacker, MajorNelson, who accused RansomedVC of being "scammers" attempting to gain influence. Sony affirmed that it was investigating the matter but refrained from providing further details, stating that no customer data appeared to be implicated in this incident.
The Infamous 2014 Sony Pictures Hack
One of the most notorious cyber-attacks against Sony occurred in 2014 when state-affiliated North Korean hackers, known as the "Guardians of Peace," infiltrated Sony Pictures' networks. This audacious breach resulted in the theft of a staggering 100 terabytes of data, including unreleased films, personal employee information, internal emails, salary details, and a wealth of other sensitive information. The hackers not only purloined the data but also employed the Shamoon virus to wipe data from Sony's systems, compounding the damage. As the studio grappled with the aftermath, the hackers began leaking portions of the stolen data, including unreleased movies and confidential communications that revealed embarrassing exchanges between employees. The attack was believed to be retaliation for the planned release of the comedy film "The Interview," which satirized North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. The hackers issued threats, warning of a "bitter fate" for those who watched the movie and ominously referencing the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Initially, Sony capitulated and pulled the movie, but later reversed course following public pressure, including from then-President Barack Obama, and released the film in a limited theatrical and online format. The repercussions of the 2014 hack were far-reaching. Employees filed a lawsuit against Sony, alleging economic harm due to the exposure of their personal data. The studio agreed to pay up to $8 million in compensation, fraud protection services, and legal fees. Additionally, the cost of repairing Sony's systems was estimated to be around $35 million.
Earlier Breaches and Security Incidents
Sony's history of data breaches and security incidents extends back over a decade. In 2011, the company faced a series of attacks that exposed the personal details of millions of customers. In April of that year, hackers accessed the personal data of 77 million Sony PlayStation Network (PSN) users, including names, emails, addresses, birthdates, usernames, and passwords. The incident resulted in a several-week service outage for the PlayStation Network, causing frustration among gamers. A month later, in May 2011, Sony announced that personal details of 25 million Sony Online Entertainment customers had been stolen, including information about PC games purchased through the system. Additionally, in June 2011, hackers targeted several Sony Pictures-associated websites, compromising over one million user accounts and exposing music codes and coupons. Beyond data breaches, Sony has also faced denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks and website defacements. In December 2014, a group called Lizard Squad claimed responsibility for a DDoS attack that took down the PlayStation Network, preventing up to 160 million gamers from accessing the service during the Christmas holiday season. In August 2017, the hacker group OurMine gained access to Sony PlayStation social media accounts and claimed to have accessed the PlayStation Network database, collecting registration information. While the group positioned itself as a security firm attempting to reach PlayStation employees, its tactics were questionable.
The Road Ahead
Sony's tumultuous history of data breaches and security incidents serves as a sobering reminder of the ever-present cyber threats facing corporations and the need for robust cybersecurity measures. As technology continues to evolve, companies must remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their digital assets and protecting the privacy of their customers and employees. While the financial and reputational costs of these incidents have been substantial, the lessons learned from Sony's experiences could prove invaluable in fortifying the defenses of not only Sony but also other organizations against the relentless onslaught of cybercriminals and state-sponsored actors. As the digital landscape becomes increasingly complex, Sony's path forward must be paved with heightened security protocols, comprehensive risk assessments, and an unwavering commitment to data protection. Only by learning from the past and embracing a culture of cybersecurity can Sony and other corporations hope to navigate the treacherous waters of the digital age with confidence and resilience. Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition has appeared on PSN backend, hinting at a release very soon
The Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition was announced last year by Ubisoft following it being leaked. At the time, the company said we’d hear more in 2024 but hasn’t said anything since. Well, based on some new evidence it looks like the game will be appearing very soon, perhaps even as a shadow drop at the upcoming Nintendo Direct which is due to occur sometime this month. The…

psn anon here, thank u for the reply! had heard of those hacking incidents actually (thought it was one long data leak), but had trouble understanding specifics/details from an user's pov, like is there a list what security features are bad to use? english isnt my native language so guess the question can be better formatted ''how risky is it to have a psn acc / what to do if one has a psn acc?''. in any case, thank u for the time and hopefully u have a good day! :)
if you have a psn account likely all data it has on you is at risk, if you need/want to have one anyway then you should just avoid giving them any info that isnt mandatory. If you have one but dont need/want it anymore you should be able to delete it and possibly request that they delete all data they have on you depending on your country and its data privacy laws.
As far as how risky it is to have one Im not sure entirely but I would say that in all likelihood psn will be hacked again at some point so I wouldnt consider any data they have on you safe

after having talked with the appropriate parties involved, there is one thing i would like to address in further detail because it would not be fair to them if i had kept on acting like nothing had happened and that they were in they wrong because they weren't. i had failed to address this previously in the past posts i've made here nor did i address it on my old blog before i ultimately deactivated on may 4th. i'll put it below a cut for length:
there isn't any excuse for me not addressing it previously and so i'm sorry for sitting around and trying to block it out of my mind instead of swallowing my pride and facing it. this was something i had failed to address alongside my other posts addressing other things like the accidental deadnaming comparison. i was cowardly then for not addressing it and for not talking to them directly in the past since my deactivation, considering that i threw out something wildly untrue and pinned the blame on someone for something they didn't do. i made a promise to improve and better interact with others and i hope to stick to that, so hopefully this is a good first step for me.
please don't think this is my way of going "haha we talked so everything is good now<3 :)" because i don't feel that way. i wouldn't ever want anyone to think that me doing the bare minimum deserves praise. this was frankly overdue on my part and i appreciate them for taking the time to listen to me despite me dragging my feet and failing to address this in the past.
in early may, i had accused thena/fauna (username at the time was ayatonomy) and ró (username at the time was bassslut) of spreading and leaking my real life name to shittalk me. let me start by saying that this is not true and that neither of them did such a thing, and it was wrong of me to falsely accuse people of violating my privacy when they simply did not do that and i didn't have any proof to substantiate what i said wholly because it didn't happen in the first place.
for context, sometime in april i had accidentally connected my youtube account which, at the time, had my irl name on it instead of 'juju', to my discord profile while i was trying to connect my PSN and download a program that shows people what you're watching on youtube in the discord progress bar (the bar that says what game you're playing or what program you're running) and i was not aware that i had connected my youtube account. i've always been a little picky about my privacy and what i choose to share with other people online/what i choose to share here, and seeing that i had made a mistake and shared something i wouldn't have ever shared normally kinda sent me spiraling. at the time, ró had pointed out that i put my irl name on my discord profile (through the youtube link) and i was extremely embarrassed that i had done something like that without knowing. i want to also clarify that ró did not point it out in a mocking or teasing way, it was an honest "oh do you know that your name is on your profile?" so please don't think anyone was trying to make fun of me. they weren't, and i had reacted poorly in response because i was embarrassed that i was careless enough to make a stupid mistake like that. it had gone against the active efforts i took to protect myself and my privacy and the disconnect between my desire to keep myself safe and i felt humiliated, stupid, and embarrassed.
i had accused them of shittalking me using my real life name because someone else had mentioned that fauna was talking about me in her server by name. looking back, i think i should have absolutely realized that there was something fishy by the fact that there was never even a single screenshot provided to me with proof that they were talking about me with my irl name, or at all. the referenced incident was something that already happened months previously and my irl name was never used or shared. i had assumed that this was something new and raw because i was still caught up in my own humiliation about sharing my irl name on accident and, thus, i had jumped to conclusions instead of taking a minute to think and approach the situation properly. as a result, i accused the two of them of something wildly untrue and, after having talked with them, i realize this is long overdue and i apologize for that. i won't ignore the false slander i've tried to force on people anymore. i mentioned yesterday that i don't want to pretend like i haven't done anything wrong anymore and i promise to stand by that, i'll be better about coming to terms with what i've done wrong and how i can be better moving forward.
there were other things we discussed privately, some personal feelings and things moving forward, but i wanted to put this out in the open because i had made the original accusation out in the open too. i hear your criticisms and concerns about my haughty and dismissive behavior and i will remember them as i move forward. i won't dismiss other people's concerns because i'm too afraid to tackle them head on, i'll be a smarter and more mature person who can deal properly with criticism and what i've done wrong. i'll be the first to admit myself that i don't take criticism very well and i can be a defensive person, and i promise i'll be a better listener and think with a level head moving forward.
finally, i want to address some hate. not so much hate i have received, but hate the two of them have received since i first deactivated. if you have ever sent anyone hate, threats, insults, violence, or anything of the sort as your own personal way of trying to support me or take sides, stop. if that is your way of showing support for me, i don't want it. don't follow me and don't interact with me if your way of showing love for me and my work involves putting others down, sending triggering content and threats to others, or blaming other people for my own mistakes and mishaps. honestly, the third party asks demanding anything of anyone and harassing anyone need to just stop in general. i have been in contact with involved parties and will continue to be, so please stop trying to take matters into your own hands by sending self-harm/death/SA threats, fatphobic hate, "this is all your fault" blaming asks to others, and anything like that. if i'm learning to better accept responsibility myself, please help me by not going into other people's askboxes and blaming other people for things that are my fault.
thank you for reading and understanding. i'll keep working to be a better version of myself, and let's all try to have a good time here instead of putting down others and sending horrible asks to other people.
